There are so many things to love about this spot! I came searching for Neidhammer coffee and found myself in a neighborhood I had never visited before! This coffee shop is going to be a vibrant part of this growing and changing neighborhood I'm sure! Things I loved about this coffee shop- 1. Outlets at every table! Which is incredible, especially since fighting for a spot next to an outlet at other coffee shops can be stressful and frustrating 2. So much room- tables are spread out and you don't feel too on top of the person next to you- leaving everyone to work in peace! 3. Phenomenal mocha- I had the iced mocha. This frothy, creamy goodness was to die for. 4. The environment- I would describe the vibe of this coffee shop as industrial cozy. The exposed brick and refurbished wood floors are gorgeous and bonus- the lighting isn't harsh. My only pitfall I found here was the construction going on upstairs above the coffee shop! I'm really glad they are renovating the space but it was a bit distracting mid day as I was attempting to get work done. read more

The owner Joel took me on a tour of their remarkable venue and shared working spaces up stairs. This is one of the coolest new places near Indy. The architecture is awesome and the building has been restored in an amazing way! They kept all the exposed brick and wood beam ceilings and all updates fit the space. Service is always friendly and fast and the quality of the products is top notch. They have a great selection and can make recommendations if you're not sure what you want to try. Free wifi if you want to stop in and work and it's not loud or overly crowded. This is my first visit. Neid serves a wide variety of coffees, smoothies, teas, crepes, and other delicious drunk and food choices. There is also a cider bar, but at 11 am, this was not an option. There was a small crowd already seated on the coffee side, their quiet conversation absorbed by the brick walls. Local art is highlighted. My pour over was perfect: hot enough, smooth and rich with no bitterness. My companion had a strawberry mango smoothie that was bright, fresh and not too sweet. The cottage home crepe was sublime. I really wanted to like this place. I was excited to try their seasonal gingerbread latte, but I could only take a couple sips of it before just giving up on it. It tasted like they put vics vapor rub in it. It was very offputting. I don't know if they added too much of a certain ingredient or what but it was undrinkable. Neidhammer Coffee Company has got it goin' on. Listen to all of this goodness--great coffee, a shared area with Ash & Elm, PLUS co-working/event space. A truly awesome idea. Neidhammer is basically Indianapolis's version of the hipster coffee shop you see in all the movies and TV shows. The coffee is bold and fresh. The tables are nicely spaced apart with adequate outlets which makes for the perfect, quiet, and bright work space. Parking is actually pretty good. There is a small parking lot behind the building, in addition to a parking lot across the street and street parking. As a new resident of Indianapolis's East Side, I will definitely be a frequent visitor of Neidhammer Coffee Company! read more

Due to some unearned luck, I was here for the opening of the 2nd and 3rd floors last night. This space is amazing. It's a completely unexpected peace of found art painstakingly revitalized and transformed into a venue unlike any other. I was so mesmerized by my surroundings I couldn't help but stare. Before entering the building I could not understand why anyone would invest on the near east side of Washington street. I was so wrong. It's built to host weddings and be a shared workspace. The prices are reasonable and the facilities modern. I expect it to thrive because so many others will be mesmerized by the stories this building tells. read more

I have used this venue to meet with clients. The place is largely as other reviewers have portrayed it: clean, friendly staff, good parking off the street, attractive environment, music not so loud you can't think, power outlets on every table (none of which wobble, thank God). So, why the four stars? And not five stars? The reason is that I had a particularly unsettling experience at 2 pm when I asked for a cup of coffee. The staff indicated that the coffee in the pots was not fresh. I pushed back reminding them that this is a "coffee company" and it is reasonable for a customer to always expect the availability of good brewed coffee. With the push back one of the young women offered to make a cup of filtered coffee. I accepted and it was very good. But there is more. The person I was meeting also managed to get a coffee (not sure if it was from the bottom of the pot or filtered). In any case, when she asked for cream, she was told that there was none downstairs and that someone would go two floors up to get it. She never went up. My client just decided to let it go. But she should have had the availability of cream for her coffee. Again, this is a coffee shop. Neidhammer needs to think about this. Also, people wanting coffee there in the afternoon need to think about this. There are many great coffee venues all over downtown and near downtown that are excellent and that manage to have coffee (come on!) in the afternoon. For myself, I will think twice about meeting a customer there in the future. read more

Scopes out Neidhammer on one of my study days - they have such a nice open space with plenty of seating and charging ports at each table so it's the perfect place to get stuff done. It's a little quiet so working alone was hard for me but I still managed to get a lot done in a couple hours (that's how long their parking is for according to the sign and I didn't want to hog spots) but I imagine it would be very good for group work. The WiFi is great and the customer service is excellent. I got a full size crepe for lunch with a Nutella latte and both were exceptional. I've mentioned before that I'm a Starbucks fiend so anywhere that has coffee that lives up to my sugar loaded tastes is always a plus for me. And the crepe was light and perfectly rich enough for lunch. If I have one gripe about this place - the seats are not the most comfy so 2 hours is about all I could manage before my back started to ache. This was my second time at the coffee house. My first trip I came in for coffee. I did enjoy the ambiance of the location. Very rustic and nostalgic. The staff was welcoming, my only concern was my coffee was just warm, I enjoy my coffee hot. While looking around I noticed they had crepes so I said I would return. I returned earlier this week for a crepe. The staff was nice but here is where the ISSUE came in. I ordered my crepe. The young lady takes my order on the touch screen pad and then immediately goes to making my crepe. She never washed her hands nor did she apply gloves. She retrieves the Turkey, Cheese and Tomatoes needed for my crepe and places them on the crepe with her bare, non gloved, non-clean hand.. While making the crepe she then touches her hair and goes back to touching the crepe. I must have been in shock because I paid for the crepe, went beck to work, and immediately threw it away. Needless to say 2 strikes and you're out in my book. Hand Hygiene is extremely important! Wash them and apply gloves when you prep food. read more

Such a fun place! Lots of seating available, and great quality. I was impressed by their latte art - as a former barista, I'm pretty picky. Their current specialty is the Nutella Latte, which was delicious (& I don't even like nutella!). The staff was very kind, too. It is attached to a bar, so seating was a little confusing. They don't care too much what side you sit on, though they prefer you stay on the coffee side if there's room. An elegant, shaved-and-shorn counterpart to the scruffier Rabble Coffee in the same part of town. The coffee is very good, with particularly friendly staff offering to explain which roasts go best with specific pour-over preparations (V60 vs. Chemex), and a decent array of pastries. The bright, handsome space is a perfect way to kill an afternoon...or maybe even spend it productively. And, as others have noticed, the clever installation of the plug outlets in the pole of each table means everyone will be able to keep their computers as juiced as they are. Neidhammer welcomes you to work through the afternoon. And, because, it's paired with Ash and Elm (nothing more than some bricked arches separating the coffee shop from the cidery), you can complement your stimulants with depressants, if you should choose. I didn't partake (nor did I imbibe) but Ash & Elm has a separate and more thorough food menu, though it gets a bit rowdy as the generally serene Neidhammer starts winding down. Even better: if Neidhammer closes at 6p and you want to stick around, they won't kick you out--Ash & Elm is open quite a bit longer. I hope the two businesses explore further chances for building on their synergy, because, at this point, I'm scratching my head thinking of anything else that might distinguish it. It's very all very *nice* which can be damning. The exposed-brick look of Neidhammer is quite typical of hip coffeehouses these days, and, without anything distinctive on the menu, and good-but-not-exceptional java, I wonder if it will be able to assert itself enough in what at this point remains an area that could scare some people away. Yes, the neighborhood is improving, but, after the foreclosure crisis, it has nowhere to go but up... But I digress! Not the time to ponder sociology. Save that for the Neidhammer wonks sitting on their computers, enjoying those plugs, the great wifi, and the pretty solid coffee. read more

I really enjoy the overall vibe of this space. Exposed brick walls and open archways lead into the Ash & Elm space next door. Free parking, great coffee, outlets at each table (built into the table leg, not immediately obvious), nice selection. Good space for productivity but I did get a bit uncomfortable after an hour or so in the chairs. Lots of natural light from the windows in the front of the building. Would be a fun place to catch up with a friend or take a first date, especially since you can always grab a cider next door if you get your fill of caffeine! Neidhammer Coffee is a fantastic addition to the near East Side. I promise the coffee is amazing, but I will start with the building, the owners did a really nice job of creating a comfortable feel with a modern design. The floor space is shared with Ash & Elm Cider, it is an open floor concept between the two and even with two businesses it feels spacious. Exposed brick, reclaimed/recycled wood, and pipes all add to the charm, and as mentioned in a few reviews, outlets everywhere, which should be the new standard. The coffee, it is amazing! There is a great selection from standard (not really but for the purposes of this) drip/pour over/Chemex/AeroPress, to iced drinks, , to tea,to lattes, to smoothies. Neidhammer does not just have a great selection they have a very knowledgable staff who are, at least in my coffee centric life, appropriately passionate about coffee and the techniques to brew it. On top of the technical parts of their job, everyone has an amazingly positive attitude that adds to the positive experience. I am looking forward to more frequent trips to Neidhammer in the near future. read more

New event and co working space in a newly revitalized area east of downtown Indy. Sensitive rehabilitation of an historic building that showcases many of it quirks yet had a fully working modern elevator. I took a tour and the amount of research and knowledge about the space is impressive. Formerly an Oddfellows meeting space, the top floor has a stage with great acoustics and some hints of the original painted background. Repurposed plumbing fixtures made odd but striking chandeliers. The second floor is a co-working space with open floor plan and a small area for wedding type events including a brides room. Luckily for the workers, there is a coffee shop and cidery on the first floor which draw many students and professionals. read more

I see you, Neidhammer, winning me over. Unfair advantage to the baby behind the counter - he wasn't serving just yet, but looked like he had potential! The staff seemed to know several of the customers who came in during my visit, and if they didn't already know you, they acted like you were going to become best friends anyway. So warm and inviting! My chai latte and lemon poppyseed muffins were delicious. The chai wasn't too sweet, and the muffin tasted really fresh, even at 2 in the afternoon. I really liked the open layout with plenty of seating options - I could have my own cozy corner while still feeling like I was part of the action. The space is beautiful, and their peaceful playlist made the ambiance even better. An expanded parking lot would be great, as I noticed a few empty houses in the neighborhood and might be more hesitant to park on the street at night, when Ash & Elm is in full swing. I came here on a Sunday afternoon seeking a work space. A lot of local coffee shops in Indianapolis aren't open on Sunday, but Neidhammer is open until 6. There is parking across the street in a gravel lot or street parking. The are plenty of tables with outlets and they offer free WiFi. The architecture and decor is very hip and modern. The downstairs is shared with Ash & Elm Cider. It can get a little noisy downstairs because of the bar area, but nothing earphones cat solve. They have an upstairs shared workspace area but it's only for paid members. I decided to get a featured latte-the lumberjack while working. It was really good and they didn't charge extra for almond milk. I will definitely return on another workday. read more
