Absolutely love this place. I come here to work, journal, read, etc. They have a coffee bar side and then a side with beer/drinks! Seating is plenty, lighting is totally hygge, and they have awesome options for baked goods and crepes! I had the Saint Clair place crepes that was yummy with brie cheese, jam, and bacon! I've also tried their lavender latte which tastes natural (not like some of the fake syrupy lavender lattes I've had in the past from other places), and I tried today their cinnamon orange black tea, which was flavorful and definitely a must get if you are a fruity tea drinker. The employees are also super sweet and so easy to talk to. You can tell this place loves the people that work here, the people they serve, and the neighborhood/community! I come here most weeks when I am either on my way or on my way home from the place I volunteer at. They are so friendly, the staff is very helpful, their snacks are delicious, and of course the coffee is top notch. If you get the opportunity, get the Mexican hot chocolate mocha (I get mine iced). Rich chocolate, subtle spices, perfect for winter time. It's seasonal, so you won't find it on the menu too much longer. It's a charming place to work or read, and I love getting to sneak some time here. Quick Tip: The charging ports are under the tables. Well, i only had a pour over coffee, but it's safe to say that I was disappointed. It was pretty bland, and the beans were nothing super special - just average. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is very rustic and enjoyable to be in, pretty hip (: The staff was very nice and helpful, and the store was super clean. What an awesome space. Shared with Ash & Elm, available event space, AND co-working space?! Neidhammer's got it going on. What brought me in today? Well, their latte flavor of the month of course! Can anyone guess? Nailed it. NUTELLA. Now, I've had a few run ins with Nutella lattes but this one was by far the best I've tasted! Some of the others just tasted like bland hot chocolate with a shot of espresso, but Neidhammer's Nutella latte was extra Nutella-y: rich, hazelnutty and everything I could ever want in a latte. The service is great, the people are awesome. Sipping on a good cup of joe here is exactly the way to kick off my weekend. Can't wait to be back in soon! read more

Cozy coffee spot on the east side of Indy! Today was my first visit and won't be my last. Parking was a bit tricky but I found some open spots on the street behind the building. The coffee shop shares a spot with Ash and Elm. The staff were the most friendly I have experienced in a long time at a coffee shop. They let us look at the menu and then offered suggestions as well. I ordered a latte and a blueberry muffin though I was tempted by the crepe menu. We found a seat and they delivered our drinks and food items. There is good seating and a great atmosphere. I will have to come back as I work on the east side and this would be a good spot to visit. read more

The truth is that kindness will always win me over. Consider me won over, Neidhammer. The truth is that I've always had a soft spot for Indy's Near Eastside, an area that for years has had more of a reputation for poverty and crime than it has for the entrepreneurial spirit and working class creatives. That's all changing and the fine folks behind the building housing Neidhammer Coffee Company at 2102 East Washington Street are at the forefront of a resurgence that some might say began when Indy hosted the Super Bowl and the NFL left their mark on this wounded yet wonderful neighborhood. I've always had a soft spot for the area, where I once lived in the apartment building catty-corner to Holy Cross, met my late wife and have started several Tenderness Tour events across the street in Willard Park at the Sylvia Likens Memorial. It wasn't so long ago that I found myself officiating at the simple wedding ceremony of a young Hispanic couple in their rented home not too far from Neidhammer. A long vacant building, it's showing new life after it was gutted and restored with exposed brick, an original stage, and wood beams along with the works of local artists on the walls. Now, Neidhammer Coffee Company shares an open space with Ash & Elm Cider Company while the 2nd floor is home to a recently opened co-working space and the third floor will soon be home to a concert/event space. For now, it's still kinda sorta a work in progress. I drive by Neidhammer every single day on my way to work, though my schedule seldom allows time for such a stop. Instead, I finally made my first visit today after the work day. I'd been lamenting my inability to attend a recent Yelp event in the space and I committed myself to finally visiting. If there's an obstacle for Neidhammer, it's probably that the parking is across East Washington Street in a rather haphazard parking lot next to an auto parts place. If you're hesitant to cross East Washington Street, which can be busy during morning/evening rush hours, then visiting Neidhammer may give you pause. I pulled into the parking lot and immediately smiled as they'd put up a makeshift disabled parking spot - ADA? Oh heavens, no. But, it's incredibly considerate and the best they could do for now. I'd already noticed that they have a small ramp that goes up their single step entryway. Again, given the age of the building this is likely something they didn't have to do - but they did. Bravo. As you enter, Ash & Elm is on the right and Neidhammer is on the left. It's a fairly open concept with warm woods throughout and built-in outlets for charging and free wifi. While I certainly wouldn't say the place was packed, it's clear that people are finding it and I was immediately struck by the peacefulness and friendliness of even the customers. I wish I knew the young woman's name who was working the counter tonight about 5pm - she was simply marvelous. She was warm, friendly and she offered gentle explanations devoid of the usual coffee snobbery. The menu consists of the coffeeshop regulars. I ordered a large pour-over - they have two processes, V60 and Chemex. I went with Chemex and found my way to a table. They also have baked goods from Fortville's Sunshine Bakery, though I didn't partake this time around. The coffee was great and pricing is par for most local coffeehouses; the selling point here was the atmosphere and the customer service. While I'd ordinarily consider knocking a star off due to accessibility challenges, the truth is there's so much thoughtfulness here and positive customer service that I wouldn't have the heart to dock a star. I looked around the space and even asked some questions about the co-working space. I was invited to go up and look at it and was super impressed that an elevator offers wheelchair accessibility and the space has clearly been designed in a way that offers access. I've thought about doing this kind of thing for my Tenderness Tour events and I was just blown away by how "above and beyond" they'd gone in terms of access. The young woman working the counter offered me a flyer for the co-work space, gave me a contact name, explained their menu, answered questions and even tossed in a leftover Yelp mug when I told her I was a Yelp Elite who'd really hated missing their event this week. As I left, I made sure to say "Oh, and thank you for the wheelchair ramp!" After a rough week at work, I found myself feeling energized and ready to tackle the world as I left Neidhammer. It wasn't just the coffee, though that helped, but the warm welcome and friendliness of the customer service and even those who were enjoying the space themselves. The best places are the places where even as you're leaving you're thinking "I can't wait to go back." I can't wait to go back to Neidhammer! read more

My friend and I went to an event here over the weekend, and I was excited for an excuse to check out another local coffee shop. I'd been to the building before when Ash & Elm was there, but it's been so long that I forgot how cool the place is. It's the perfect spot for a coffee date or to enjoy your coffee while you work. I got the white chocolate peppermint mocha and my friend got an iced gingerbread latte. Both drinks were phenomenal, definitely some of the better seasonal lattes I've had recently. One thing I will note is that they won't give you your coffee to go unless you ask for it that way so keep that in mind when you're ordering. Definitely recommend checking this spot out! read more

Trying to get office work done at home with two kids under 5 years old is hard due to the distractions. I'm in sales and so when I'm not with customers, I tend to drift between coffee shops and other common use areas. I've been giving cowork space a lot of thought, but most of the cowork spaces are on the northside of town (and I live on the near-eastside). I'd been in Neidhammer Coffee Shop and Ash and Elm a few times, which are both great--so when I heard they were opening a cowork I was excited to try the space out. Let's talk about what I love. PEOPLE: The people are incredibly accommodating and friendly. They are involved in not just the cowork space but other neighboring businesses, including the Coffee shop. They make a point to get to know you and are truly caring and seeking of your feedback on the new business. THE BUILDING: This is a historic building on Washington near downtown. The brick interior has many historic and modern elements. The Furniture in the cowork space is large, clean and comfortable. They have public use wifi, a phone room for private conversations and Private offices, private phone call room, a great conference/training room for sales meetings and the like. Large 3rd floor room for receptions, weddings, large meetings. Easy elevator access. I've been here several times and WIFI and electrical connections have always "just worked." There is parking on street now, but I'm told they have plans to add (2) parking lots this spring. The FLEXIBILITY: So I acknowledge that some days I just run into the coffee shop for quick work. But if I need more time to really focus and get more done, I can buy a day pass and jump upstairs for a few hours. The other options include part time or full time access to the cowork space. I can envision someone who calls on downtown customers, lives in the area, or wants a good meeting space away from the office to find this a great spot. I can also see the third floor (seperate from cowork) being a hit for weddings because you can see downtown from the windows and it has a great vibe going on inside. (See photos) If you work from home near Downtown definitely check it out! It solved a solution for me, and I see myself using this as an office-away-from-the-road, potential client meeting site and great place to get work down just blocks from downtown and 5 minutes from home. I have to say that this place is pretty sweet for a coffee because it has a cool atmosphere and it's an old building it gives it the 19th century feel I mean the coffee is wonderful but she will see it on the spot there's a lot of students very limited seating but it's OK cause there's a a wine store next door and it's in a cute neighborhood I can't complain about it and that the barista's are amazing they know what they're doing. I had to judge their coffee by the espresso this espresso is very smooth very fruity bright on it has great body and it has good Crama, i've been to many coffee shops before this one is good for where it's at. While I find the usual alternative workspace in busy corporate offices an ultimate source of distraction the cowork space was a refreshing alternative. So what does this versatile space include: 1. Large long wooden tables with a deep smooth finish that gives you plenty of space to work or enough elbow room to work amongst other busy people. Electrical plugs for power hungry devices are included. 2. Natural light via plenty of windows. Get tired of being cramped in cubicle land? Free yourself on go to the cowork space at Neidhammer. 3. Wi-Fi. You know being connected is so necessary nowadays. 4. Private spaces. Sometimes you need some space. Just for you or those important conference calls. It's like having your own small office without the title usually required for such privilege. 5. Printer - when you need documented proof you did work, your covered. 6. h2o closets abound. When nature calls, you get a porcelain palace to yourself with a sink, soap, hand dryers and a mirror to make sure you look good coming out of the palace. And you don't have to wait in line because they have a couple of floors of these private beauties. 7. Food & drink. Coffee, pastries, adult cider, snacks, sandwiches. I typically drink my coffee black, but loved how the different spices paired with the coffee! The ginger, cardamon and cinnamon really added to the coffee itself! While I have visited Neidhammer's space neighbor Ash and Elm Cider, I had never ventured over for some coffee on their side of the room. I visited on Sunday and definitely kicked myself for not trying it sooner. I ordered just a normal drip coffee with almond milk and tried one of their pastries. The coffee was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for co-working with a friend. I was happy to find that all the tables had outlets at the base of them which came in handy because I didn't realize before I got there how low my laptop battery was. I also loved the overall feel of the place. The music was great, the lighting was warm and inviting, and even though it was pretty busy when we were there, it was easy to still hear the people I was with talk without trying to talk over the ambient sound of others. The staff that I interacted with were so kind and the wifi was working great during my visit. I will definitely be moving into this space as my go to coffee on this side of town from here on this side of town. read more

I came here during Ash & Elm's grand opening and tried the best blueberry muffins I've ever had! The gentleman that was there that day was so friendly, and I told myself that I'd make the trip to come back there just for the muffins and service alone. I came back and they didn't have any blueberry muffins that day! Whaaaaat, the horror!! They mentioned that they even use a different baker, noooooooo!!!! I ordered an apple cinnamon muffin (something I would NEVER order) and a cappuccino, and sat down feeling defeated, and ready to be disappointed. Well, I certainly was NOT disappointed, and this muffin was almost....almost as good as I remembered my precious blueberry muffin to be. I'm no coffee connoisseur, I just pretty much need it to be hot, flavorful and sweet. This was all of those things, and the pretty design on top was just right. Emily made this experience amazing. As we walked in we noticed how clean the place is. It didn't smell unpleasant at all. No trash anywhere and dust free! Emily greeted us in a friendly and inviting manner and took our order. I noticed the crepes iron and asked about it. It's clear she knows what she is doing as she was trying a new recipe. The crepe dough is NOT overpowering as it is in NYC or PHILADELPHIA. I had to run downtown early on a Saturday morning so I thought I'd treat myself by finding a nice coffee shop where I could try something new and sit and read. Neidhammer delivered. I ordered an Apple Butter Latte, which had a subtle apple butter aftertaste and was all around pleasant. I felt like $4.95 for a rather small drink, though, was too much. I love the large windows at the front of the shop which offer a lot of natural light - ideal for reading in front of. The servers were very kind and welcoming. All in all, I liked it here. I don't know when I'd be back since it's quite out of the way for me and a little pricey - but I certainly wouldn't be against returning. read more

This location is *goals*. I love the brick. It gives a cozy but modern vibe to things. I love that it shares a space with Ash & Elm. As far as actual product, I was let down. I got a cold brew and it was very acidic, I didn't even drink the whole thing. The one thing I expect with cold brew is smoothness. My husband got a drip coffee and it was decent. Visited here with my mom this Saturday morning. We ordered in house coffees and a couple of the pastries. My mom chatted up the male barista who was very warm and friendly. The ambiance in this place is stellar. Exposed brick, high ceilings, a bright window in the front , and a private tucked away corner in the back. The tables all have outlets attached so you can plug your laptop in while you write your next novel ;) A brick wall with open arches separates the coffee shop from the cider shop. The coffee tasted great. It's freshly filtered, not drip, so we had to wait about 5-10 minutes for it. I suggest offering drip brew as well to customers who pop in for to go coffees. This was fun and work and food all balled into one perfect event. I loved the open timeline, stress free environment, quiet and bright work space, and the yummy treat tables. The work space is light, large, and has conference call rooms, private meeting room space and large screen access. The staff are wonderful and are constantly coming up with new drinks. They don't hesitate to help you figure out what to order or make something just for you. The atmosphere is casual and cozy with exposed brick and metal pipe features. Connected to Neidhammer is Ash and Elm, a cidery, if you tire of coffee. The coffee is delicious. I tend to order the Nutella Latte or whatever is on special. The bakery items are a good choice as well. They have also just added crepes, both sweet and savory, as a food option. There is also gluten free items available and Neidhammer uses Monin syrups which are also gluten free. There are so many things to love about this spot! I came searching for Neidhammer coffee and found myself in a neighborhood I had never visited before! This coffee shop is going to be a vibrant part of this growing and changing neighborhood I'm sure! Things I loved about this coffee shop- 1. Outlets at every table! Which is incredible, especially since fighting for a spot next to an outlet at other coffee shops can be stressful and frustrating 2. So much room- tables are spread out and you don't feel too on top of the person next to you- leaving everyone to work in peace! 3. Phenomenal mocha- I had the iced mocha. This frothy, creamy goodness was to die for. 4. The environment- I would describe the vibe of this coffee shop as industrial cozy. The exposed brick and refurbished wood floors are gorgeous and bonus- the lighting isn't harsh. My only pitfall I found here was the construction going on upstairs above the coffee shop!
