This little gem is exactly what I'm looking for in a coffee shop. I took two steps inside and felt like I was at home. The vibes are straight up moody, in the best way possible. Twinkle lights, a neon sign with the phrase "stay wild," plants everywhere and I mean everywhere! Little things that I noticed and loved included a table with a community puzzle and some board/card games, very cool artwork on the walls, and hints of Halloween (skeletons and skulls), my favorite. The community feeling was also very obvious. Everyone was friendly, there were so many cute dogs and people waving and saying hi to each other as they came and went. I loved it. Now, on to the coffee... I was going to be staying put for a while before jumping on the road for a three hour drive so I ended up getting two of their seasonal drinks and a pastry. I always go for the seasonal options and they had several good ones to try. I started with the "peelin' so good," a banana and caramel latte with strawberry drizzle. I opted to get it with oat milk. Oh my goodness, it was so good. You might question banana in a latte, but I've been seeing them pop up everywhere and it was delicious. I also got a babka pastry, which I had never heard of before. It's pretty much a braided roll mixed with a sticky bun. It had cinnamon in it and a syrup over it. I snacked on that while I was there and finished it in my car. Super tasty! Before I left I got the "beez nutz" latte because I knew I would need help staying awake while driving for three hours. It was a honey latte with a peanut butter cold foam. Also delicious. I sipped down every drop. This shop is the perfect mix of dark whimsy, community, and coffee. A special place indeed. Give them a visit! read more

Great coffee shop. The owners of this "new" coffee shop bought Coal Yard and it's better than ever. I got a Marshmallow cold foam cold brew. It was great and they let me bring my own cup! Decided to get out for a bit since it was gloomy, rainy, and cold out. Cool little spot, too bad it wasn't nice out because the patio area looked great and there was quite a lot of room to enjoy it. As we walked in the ambiance of the plants and art was really cool. Seating was a bit weird, I dislike that singles were hogging up the two tops or four top tables. I guess some people lack etiquette but honestly if the last coffee shop we went to can instill rules then I feel like others should too for the sake of all of their patrons being able to enjoy their shops. We both ordered the Peelin so good, banana caramel with the strawberry drizzle (iced and hot) and a carrot cake muffin. Both coffees were really good: highly recommend both. The carrot cake muffin was dry and the cream cheese crumbled it was so dry so I will not get that again. Definitely 5 stars for the drinks and staff. Three for the overall quality of the muffin because it would have really been great with my drink :( Staff was friendly and welcoming. Definitely will be back on a sunny day to enjoy the patio. Indianapolis surely doesn't miss with the options of coffee shops in the area, and this one is just another I'm absolutely obsessed with. The seasonal specials? Way too good, I enjoyed the Peelin' So Good which was a banana and carmel iced latte with strawberry drizzle and banana chips, so original! The plants and aesthetic of the space, make it extremely inviting and comfortable as well as amazing photo ops. Service is was great, and even willing to help share community flyers ~ absolutely love a local support supporting the community! Grungy Alice in Wonderland vibes, yeah not sure why I think that but it's full of mystical twinkly lights and dark woods, fun space, easy parking, pleasant staff, and great menu tho nothing really crafted or scratch made. Junky pump syrups only so I went with the one locally sourced, a honey and cinnamon thing basically a mile, they didn't give me any discount for my personal cop which was odd but I was just glad to have found an empty seat near an outlet! It is a fine cup of Joe apart from the top tier Commissary, Rabble, and Coat Check near downtown. Glad for this place. read more

Obsessed! I work in Irvington and was soooo happy when wildchild opened where coal yard was! They gave the place a much needed vibe! Love all the plants and new furniture set up! I looked up coffee shop on Yelp and this came up. I've never heard of it nor been so of course I wanted to try it. I noticed they don't have a designated parking lot, but they have free street parking. Luckily, there was space available. The door was slightly heavy, so use those muscles to pull it open. When I walked in, I was enlightened by all the greenery around, it instantly made me feel happy. I love plants. I wish the person who took care of them was there (I was told her name is Tracy) so we could plant talk and I pick her brain on tips and tricks. I also noticed the lighted wall decorated with plants encasing the sign "Stay Wild"! I love this! The inside was quaint - tables, chairs, stools, and a couch. It was fairly busy when I came (2pm ish Sunday) so limited seating was available. The order area is easily visible. I told the lady working that it was my first time there, she was friendly and helped guide my choice. I chose a seasonal drink - 16oz Mr. Grinch, hot, oat milk - and it was delicious. It cost $8.99 (they charged extra for oat milk). I learned that they have been here for about 7 months, it used to be another coffee shop prior to them taking over. They have a rewards program, so if your new just make sure to ask before paying as they will have you put your phone number in first so the order will count. They have 2 gender neutral restrooms. WiFi is available. I'd love to come back to try other drinks. read more

Irvington once had a great coffee shop that everyone in the neighborhood went to but alas business management is tricky and those days are gone. Wild Child Coffee silently appeared, I haven't heard much about its launch and yet here it is. Vibes are what you'd expect for a semi-industrial coffee shop, almost all tourist destinations have something like this now. Eclectic seating, plants everywhere, and a trendy brewing/ordering island. I ordered a drink off their specials but asked for it to be made hot so any customization like this is a good test for how it is handled. The answer was wonderfully, you can really see the level of care that goes into each drink. Quality coffee, tons of syrups for customization, craftsmanship behind the counter. All of these are recipe for a longstanding institution within the community. read more

Absolutely LOVE this coffee bar!! This is definitely somewhere I'd love to work at or frequent if I lived nearby. The decor is very witchy, moody, and a little dark. Horror movie was on the tv when I walked in. Roaster inside behind the counter. I ordered an Ethiopian cold brew and a double espresso. Both came out quick. Coffee had a ton of flavor (I had both items black). I will 100% be back if work brings me back to Indy. read more

This used to be the location for Coal Yard Coffee, but it's changed hands. The offerings seemed better, to me. They've cleaned up clutter, and made some new offerings in both drinks, but also, foods. This is a pet friendly place, and the coffee we had was first rate. It seems less expensive, but maybe that's my imagination. I should've snapshot the old menu to compare. The service is friendly, and they have more additives, like actual whipping cream, a favorite of mine. It might be a five star. More samples will tell me. The seating is great with tables, a sectional to chill on .. comfy chairs...bench... table tops to complete provided puzzles..all options !! Wide open areas for those in wheelchairs! Could definitely be even better in the warmer months because outside there is seating and with space and can I mention PET FRIENDLY !!! Best s'mores latte I have encountered and I'm a bit of a Smores a holic !! It was the perfect blend of marshmallow/chocolate/ espresso !! The Carmel Apple was not short of amazing either, it was a soft apple taste rounded with sweet but not overpowering caramel. We drove there to try out this new to us coffee shop. Cortado and a chai latte hot, spicy. The first sip of the latte smooth and creamy, the next one I got a black pepper taste in the back of the mouth. The cortado was good, not sure I would be a fan of the coffee here.
