Obviously there was some hesitation with allowing our daughter to attend any camp this year, but the Breene family that runs the camp was amazing not only from a logistical point of view but also in providing a safe "normal" environment for kids to enjoy. We have joked (but not really joking) that other entities should take notes on not only how to do proper communication but then effectively implementing and providing an environment in which all participants could feel safe. If the Breene family can provide this type of atmosphere under the circumstances they faced this Summer, imagine the experience they can provide when, hopefully, things are a bit more normal next Summer! John was really great at making sure every member of our group felt comfortable out on the water and patiently looked after everyone since we paddled at slightly different speeds. Deerkill is by far the best day camp in the Rockland County area. The staff (from counselors to instructors) is also fantastic and a group of very experienced professionals. The directors are always developing new programs and bringing in the latest activities for campers of all ages. One of the newest additions to the camp is the climbing wall and zip line. My kids could not get enough of them. My kids are also huge fans of animals and the fact that Deerkill has a pony, and a couple of friendly alpacas is a great plus. Overall, I would recommend Deerkill to anyone that would like to provide their kids with the opportunity to have summers they will never forget making life long friends along the way.
