After an accident, we had to rush our furry boy into NVC. I'm giving 4 stars because the emergency night clinic bled us dry and left my daughter sitting there for 5 hrs, not having very many answers or explanations, telling us it would be around $15,000 for this surgery...and not being super clear about what to expect. They would get a 2 star (only because they did give him pain meds & let him stay there the night) But...ln came the sun! Niki & the rest of the staff on day crew here at NVC took amazing care of our Bandit! I highly recommend NVC day team for care and surgery- they were professional and gave us all of the information we needed, and Niki even called several times during the process with updates, and followed up with us several times after surgery to make sure our boy is doing well! I waited several weeks before writing this review so I could evaluate the experience as objectively as possible. Summary I brought a pregnant dam to this clinic for an emergency C-section after labor stalled. The initial surgery resulted in severe internal bleeding that required a second emergency surgery later the same day by a different surgeon to save her life. Communication throughout the process was poor, and my dam and puppies were kept at the clinic for more than 24 hours. After discharge, the puppies were significantly underweight, dehydrated, and in poor condition. All puppies contracted canine parvovirus despite the dam being fully vaccinated. Full Experience We recently relocated our kennel to the area and had a large-breed dam whose labor stalled approximately three hours after delivering her first puppy. The emergency clinic we had previously vetted was closed, so out of necessity I brought her to NVC at approximately 4:00 a.m. on 5/5/2026. After the initial examination, bloodwork, radiographs, and ultrasound, Dr. James Longoria recommended proceeding with a C-section. He assured me that he routinely performed C-sections and spays and advised that spaying during the final C-section would be more cost-effective. Before surgery, I specifically asked whether oxytocin would be administered in an attempt to stimulate labor before performing surgery. I was told it would be. However, the medical records I later received contain no indication that oxytocin was ever administered. I was also told my dog would be seen immediately. Instead, the surgery began significantly later than I was led to expect. Around the time I had been told discharge would occur, I returned to the clinic and was informed that my dog was still in surgery. When I questioned the delay, I was told the procedure was taking longer because of the size of the blood vessels that needed to be closed. During this time, staff asked me to bring in the puppy that had already been delivered at home so it could nurse with the dam and litter. Believing this would be in the puppies' best interest, I agreed. Several hours later, after repeated attempts to obtain updates, I received a call from lead surgeon Dr. Brady Hanson requesting permission to take my dog back into surgery because she was not doing well. I immediately consented. Dr. Hanson later informed me that he had found multiple sites of internal bleeding and had to perform emergency corrective surgery. He also administered multiple blood transfusions. In my opinion, Dr. Hanson saved my dog's life. He communicated clearly, acted decisively, and was transparent about what had occurred. For that, I am genuinely grateful. Unfortunately, communication from the clinic as a whole remained poor throughout the remainder of the hospitalization. I repeatedly called seeking updates and was consistently told that the puppies were doing well and nursing normally. I specifically asked whether puppy weights were being monitored to ensure proper neonatal development and was told that they were. On 5/6/2026, I was finally told I could pick up the dam and puppies. Upon discharge, I was shocked by the condition of the puppies. They were significantly underweight, dehydrated, and appeared to have received inadequate care during their first 32 hours of life. When I requested their birth weights, I was informed that puppy weights were not recorded because only the dam was considered the patient. This directly contradicted what I had previously been told when I specifically asked whether weights were being monitored. Every puppy developed canine parvovirus. Because the dam was fully vaccinated and we've never had parvo in our program, I can only speculate as to how this occurred. My concern is that the puppies may not have received adequate nursing and colostrum during their critical first hours of life, especially given the dam's medical complications and need for a second surgery. Regardless of the cause, I spent the next three weeks providing around-the-clock intensive care to save the litter. Thankfully, all puppies survived with the guidance and treatment provided by my regular veterinarian. Final Thoughts My total bill was $5,212. The clinic did not charge me for the second surgery that was required to correct the complications from the first procedure. The financial cost, however, pales in comparison to the time, emotional stress, and ongoing expense of managing a parvovirus outbreak and decontaminating our home and kennel property. While I am thankful to Dr. Hanson for saving my dog's life, my overall experience with this clinic was deeply disappointing. Between the surgical complications, inconsistent communication, conflicting information regarding puppy care, and the condition of the puppies at discharge, I cannot recommend this facility. If faced with another emergency, I would choose to drive to Houston or to a 24-hour clinic across the Louisiana border rather than return here. read more

They took our Piper right in and back for immediate examination on a bad neuro injury. They kept us updated along the way and I felt they handled things pretty fast. We were able to get xrays and meds to take home while Piper rests for 6 weeks. Everyone was very, very nice too (to both our poor dog and us). Thank you to everyone there for being helpful!!! Drove two hours for my cat's UTI/blockage treatment. Paid $4,200 for a two-day catheter and monitoring. He went in Tuesday after I found him straining with blood drops on the tile. They removed the catheter Thursday and had us wait 12 hours, which is standard, to see if he'd urinate normally. He re-blocked. Their "plan"? Another $4,200 to reinsert the catheter over the holiday weekend because no surgeon was available until Monday, plus $7,000 for the actual surgery. Total: $15,400. At no point did anyone explain the real risks, the high likelihood of re-blocking, or actual surgical outcomes. Zero transparency. They told me over the phone we would get a $1,084 refund if we chose euthanasia, minus the $84 communal burial fee, so around $1,000. When we showed up to say goodbye--because $15k is not realistic for most people--the refund suddenly dropped to $770. The excuse? One employee said they "checked his urine again," after we had already made the decision. Another said we were charged $230 for another day of hospitalization, even though we returned the same day as the supposed checkout time. It felt like numbers were being invented on the spot. They also pushed credit applications hard, trying to funnel us into financing their inflated corporate prices. And one more thing: On Tuesday when I dropped him off, I didn't have the full $4,200 immediately because I had to transfer money from savings--like any normal person in an emergency. I told them I could pay $2,000 now and the rest the next day when the transfer cleared. I even gave them the card number to charge. They still refused to treat him until every dollar was paid upfront. No compassion. No flexibility. Pay in full or your pet doesn't get help. This is a private-equity-owned clinic, and the behavior shows it: predatory pricing, shifting numbers, no empathy, and zero interest in the actual animal. My cat's life was effectively held behind a paywall. If I could give negative 1,000 stars, I would. Terrible care, terrible ethics--only the bathroom was clean. Our dog had to be put down and not only did staff take my baby for me so I could be with my husband, but they were incredibly gentle and kind the entire time. They legitimately offered to babysit her while we were there which took so much stress off of us. These people go the extra mile for your animal and you! The front desk staff are so kind and helpful, even when I was stressed and nervous about my dog being in pain. I was able to get scheduled within 48 hours for an orthopedic surgery for my Labrador. Sending all of the X-rays and veterinarian information was quick and efficient, and I was taken back early for my appointment! I was quoted $6500-$7400 in Houston for each knee surgery, but at NVC, their estimate was around $3000! I couldn't believe how affordable and efficient NVC was when I arrived. I was reassured over and over to ask as many questions as I wanted. For anyone that wants quality care and affordable prices, this is the place to go if you don't mind a drive! Dr. Hanson performed the first surgery to fix his back knees last week, and already the difference in my dog is amazing. He's pulling on the leash to try and run, and seems much happier. WOW!!! This place is not here for anything but money! They do not care about the wellbeing of your pet, they are just here to line their pockets. I will make it my mission to let everyone I know what a horrible place this is. My husband brought our dog to them around 7am on Saturday morning. She previously had surgery to remove a hernia, by our vet, but she licked her stitches loose. My husband noticed that some of her guts were hanging out and rushed to this clinic. We couldn't get ahold of our vet so this was our only option. Upon arriving he was handed paper work and a bill for $900 BEFORE EVEN DOING ANYTHING!! Yes $900!! Before anybody gets their panties in a twist, I've worked in customer service for a long time. I know how business works. I'm not an idiot. I know that there are items and services that need to be paid for. BUT $900 before doing anything is completely ridiculous!! You want to charge me $66 for fluids, I can totally understand that. BUT, charge me $175 to use your pump......THAT IS CRAZY!!! I can go see my doctor and have test run for less than $500. My husband let the vet on duty know that we're only had $1,200 to get this taken care of. She responds with, I'm sorry I can't do it for that!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? We just paid $900 to basically walk in here. You cant't give her the care she needs for $1,200??? By this time, luckily we had gotten a hold of our vet. I will say that they did get her stable after stitching her up on the SURFACE LEVEL ONLY, I am thankful for that. But, she still bled all the way to our vet. Our amazing vet did what needed to be done to save her life. What's funny is, it actually took less time to get her fixed properly than it did to get her stable at the clinic. read that last sentence again just so it'll sink in!!! At one point, we thought we were gonna have to let our dog die because we don't have $2,500 to get her stitched up properly!!! No animal I have will ever go near this place ever again. First off, I'm crying typing this-Words cannot express how thankful My family is for NVC, We went through a whirlwind of emotions this past week thinking we may lose our Ace to a bowel obstruction. Because of the quotes we were given in Houston, We would've done anything. Even if that meant surrendering him to save his life. They had to perform surgery on my dogs intestines and did not remove all the damaged parts the first time . Then they had to perform another surgery and this could have killed my dogs . They knew there was more damaged intestines and left it , not sure if it was incompetence or so they could charge me for 2 surgeries . She is so sweet, smart, funny loves kids and people but suffers with PTSD with animals coming towards her,so on high alert especially with female dogs.
