You help them and they give you a tax write off slip and you have less to worry about at home. The staff that works there is always helpful and polite. If you are not sure if they will talk it you can always call ahead. Please remember that certain items must be in sealed unopened original bags/containers such as diapers. If you have things that are clean and undamaged and cannot be donated to a charity, many schools may take them (call ahead first). When I end up with these extra items, I add them to a small plastic grocery bag with water and a nonperishable food item that doesn't need additional tools to open it or heat up, and extra things such as the diapers (in a clean ziplock bag), for those moments at a light or intersection where many homeless are fixtures seem to be. Only if I am at a full stop and if they approach will I offer them the choice to take it as I don't give money. They always take it.
