They came for an assessment on June 24 ($213 for them to visit), and we never heard back (2 new toilets, fix a couple leaks). After we called 3 weeks later, on Jun 20 they scheduled a return to the house for today (July 22), but didn't show up. We've found a different plumber (for tomorrow), and will never again call on Nelson Brothers. read more

I'm new to the area and a friend recommended Nelson Brothers. Easy scheduling (good) but the the tech did not show between the scheduled window of 1-5pm (prior job went long) so they rescheduled me at 2pm the following day (good) and sincerely apologized for the delay (also good). At 3:45 the next day (today), I called their office to inquire - tech is on his way. The tech calls me at 4:05, I'm 30 minutes out!! I explain that is not going to work. I thought you were out front. The service manager then calls me (good) but I cannot make their time work. So as the customer, I (we) have no recourse but to use someone else. I need better communication and a strong commitment to service. I will NEVER use Nelson Brothers because of this experience because it's my only recourse. I called them to get estimate on new water heater. The sales person came next day and did a look around and said we did not need tankless (uneconomic and no real need) and quoted a power vent gas heater without giving a model number or manufacturer name. I refused to e-sign till they specified in the quote the make and mode. I called them and the salesman told me they use Lochinvar and it would be the 50000 btu model. I look at the quote and it clearly said 40000 btu (no make or model)so I called and left a voicemail asking them to require with make and model on the quote. no response Till now read more

Awesome service, especially in times of crisis! They're very knowledgeable and have great prices. We've had Nelson Brothers come out multiple times for various issues in our rental house. We had an issue where our garbage disposal was leaking when we first moved in. They did some investigating and found out that a connector piece was dislodged by the force of the disposal turning on. They put on a stronger piece and resealed it. We haven't had an issue with it since. Another issue was with our dishwasher. We ordered a new one but because it was so far away from the sink, Home Depot couldn't hook it up. We called Nelson Brothers up and they came out and shimmied the tubing hook up behind the cabinets and through the drawer to get it to hook up properly. It's a crazy set up, but they made it work. Another issue was where the garbage disposal entirely stopped working. The blade came off and went down the pipes. They came by and replaced the entire thing and let us tested. It worked perfectly on the first try. Another issue, which is hopefully our last, was our hot water tank stopped working. We couldn't reignite it and when they came over and somehow found a way to reignite it, the flame wouldn't stay lit. They came back the following day and replaced the igniter and valve and it started working again. Mind you, this issue was during the COVID 19 chaos, and they were very professional and wore protective gear when entering our home. In my opinion, 'Rick' (I believe that is his name) was a dishonest worker who not only charged me an exhorbitant service charge for coming out to a Detroit address (which was never mentioned on the phone or stated on their website), but he didn't stop the leak and created an additional problem with my kitchen faucet. I didn't have him come back because I was told that they would have to charge another service charge. I did find another plumbing company that determined that the leak was coming from the sink bowl and he also replaced the faucet (fixing the problem created by the Nelson Bros. 'alleged' plumber). If I had the time I would sue Nelson Bros. for the money that I unfortunately paid the guy representing their company. I just hope he is no longer working with them because he is a lawsuit waiting to happen. BEWARE: Do not use any company that will charge a service charge to come to your home, unless they tell you upfront prior to scheduling an appointment - especially if it is just charged for coming to Detroit. I own property in a nice, respectable, neighborhood so I deeply resent the insinuation about doing business in Detroit! read more

Be very wary of this business. We haven't done business with them directly but they almost cost us tens of thousands of dollars in repairs by what appears to be extreme levels of incompetence or worse, unethical conduct. They haven't explained to us how they messed up this bad which makes me question their credibility. We had an offer accepted to purchase a home. We got the sewer camera inspection done through a different company and the video showed a shift right before the line met the main and what appeared to be a belly in the line for 30 ft. Our agent suggested we request the homeowners to get the line snaked and camera'd again by hiring a licensed plumber. The sellers chose Nelson bros. and this is where things started to go awry. Ed Durby from Nelson was the sellers inspector who snaked and then camera'd the line. His video was no different after the snake and while his report indicated a shift, he made no mention that this was a problem and made it sound like it wasn't a big deal at all. The homeowner used this report with such iron-will to insist this was just an imperfection. I tried to get a hold of Ed at Nelson bros. but their office recommended I speak to Rick who was impossible to get a hold of, so I left him a couple of voicemails. I reached out to several plumbers around southeast Michigan with the video and every single one of them alerted me that it needs a repair and a few provided me estimates in the range of $20-30k. I finally did speak to Rick but he was in a rush, barely spoke for more than a couple of mins. He mentioned that he was going to survey the property on his drive back home and provide an estimate the next day. I have not heard back from this guy since, even though I tried calling and leaving VMs the next day. I continued calling several other plumbers the next day and every single one of them voiced their concern in unison while the homeowner was convinced that this was not a problem because their plumber said so. I was being urged by the homeowner to make a decision or that they were going to re-list their home. The sellers then notified us that I can expect a call from Nelson soon as we requested an extension of the inspection contingency. I kept wondering how impossible it was, for me to get Rick on the phone while the homeowners were somehow getting special treatment. I waited several minutes but no one called me, the homeowners then provided me with an extension to talk to Jeremy from Nelson. I tried calling this extension, but again, no one answered so I left another voicemail yet again. This was getting crazy by now. Minutes later, Jeremy calls me and when I asked about the verdict of their sewer scope, he insisted Ed had 35 years of experience and that he was the best in the state of Michigan. Jeremy also mentioned how he wouldn't personally do anything if it was his home which baffled me. All the plumbers had to make their analysis based on the same video and yet, I have one conflicting opinion which was from Nelson who happened to be the ones that took the video. When I asked if he saw the video, he mentioned he did not and I insisted he did while he was on the phone with me. To his credit, Jeremy immediately admitted that the video does not align with the report. He said he was going to check with his tech to ensure the video was the correct one. I told him that their video and the one from my inspector showed the shift at the same length and the belly for the same length in the same region. He mentioned he would investigate this matter and call me back in a few mins. He did call me back minutes later and apologized profusely for denying there was a problem without watching the video. He mentioned how he made the homeowner aware of the problem and that his general manager was heading over to provide them with an estimate for a repair that was needed. He also mentioned he would call me the next day with the official estimate and with feedback on how they messed up so badly. He did provide a rough estimate of $22k. This updated verdict and rough estimate was now in line with every other plumber I called. I recorded these two calls as this whole thing was a horrible experience. I called back the next day and while he did not have any further feedback or information, he insisted he should have something by midday. He left me a voicemail by the end of the day where he did a complete 180 again and mentioned how there was flow and how it did not need an immediate fix and how they want to step away altogether from this huge mess they created. When I called him and asked if he had any explanation for this mix up, he told me that I'd have to wait until after the long weekend to get feedback. This is where they lost their credibility. Our deal fell through as the homeowner is still in denial. We were almost robbed of tens of thousands of dollars. read more

Highly recommend! We had our basement backed up on a Friday. It was tough to get someone that would come out and fix it. Nelson Brothers was recommended by another plumber. JONATHAN came out at 7pm! He snaked the clean out area (a place that previously had not been done) He was professional, competent and thorough. A few months ago, I had the valve to my dishwasher fix but after a couple of uses, my dishwasher was leaking water into my basement. I had them come out to make sure it wasn't anything that they did. Come to find out it was another issues and charged me the service fee for 10 minutes of work. Overall they're quality of work is good but they do not care about customer service. It took a week to get an appointment to have a toilet fixed. Okay: things are busy. I get it. My tenant took a day off work to be home. I got a text that the plumber was a no-show. When I got back home there was a call on my phone: plumber assumed because I didn't answer that no one was home. Could I please reschedule? Bummer: tenant lost a day's work. I called to reschedule and was told that until I submitted a valid credit card, the appointment would not be booked. I'm sorry: not gonna happen.
