I appreciate the knowledge the workers bring, they usually understand some of the older setups I have in my house and what they are the way they are. Prices may be slightly higher than other places but having an expert install things correctly the first time is worth it. Oh man, thank God for these guys. My friend's sewer was backing up in her basement, and she thought it was because her youngest had flushed butt wipes. Chris came out next day and snaked the drain all the way out to the road, and it ran clear. The cost for the Visit and the clean out was very reasonable! Chris suggested that if it happened again, she should have them come out and look with the camera. He thought maybe it was an old sewer cap that had fallen down there and was blocking the line. Sure enough, a couple weeks later, the sewer backed up again. So today (next day service), Arthur came out and sent a camera down.... they were right! it was an old sewer cap blocking the line! There's no real way to get it out easily, But Arthur managed, using a magnet. Immediately the sewer drained! so hopefully that is the end of that problem. the cost for today's visit was again incredibly reasonable. Good guys. Fast work. Well trained and knowledgeable! I had my Hot Water heater replaced. They did a great job. It cost a bit more then I would of liked, but I had a bunch of work that needed done to bring everything up to code. Please make sure you do some comparison pricing before using this company. They charged us an OUTRAGEOUS price of $3,700 (this price was actually negotiated down from closer to $4000) for a new 50 gallon water heater. Unfortunately, my husband was the only one home when they came and agreed to that ridiculous price. I expressed shock and anger when he let the guy leave with a $1900 down payment!! I did my homework after this and spoke with several people who have replaced their water heaters over the last several years. NONE OF THEM have paid even close to this. Drew was fantastic....he took the time to explain everything and advise us what needed to be done. A good genuine honest person. The installers and electricians are a whole different story. ******Update and hate to do this but they came out again for more work and this visit wasn't that great. They were supposed to level my washer and dryer and didn't which I am not happy about! I paid for a gas line to be installed and the did a shortcut with flex line instead of a pipe and elbow. I paid top dollar for their services and would expect top dollar service. Their electrician that came out charged me over 200 bucks to change a light switch but didn't change the cracked switch next to it. (I would expect that for that kind of money) He also tried to charged me for a dedicated line for my washer and dryer which I already have and wanted to cap a plug which another electrician came in and just shut it off. read more

The looming concern over basement flooding has caused high anxiety for many homeowners. Personally, my basement flooded a couple of times throughout the years. My basement is accessed via an underground garage which further adds to the flood anxiety. Rather than move and make it someone else's problem, I was seeking a permanent solution. Tony and his team at Universal were challenged with the daunting task of creating a system that would put us at ease. The first thing Tony recommended was backflow preventers. Now that this was agreed upon, we moved on to taking care of the water collection when we had nowhere to go with it. Somehow, underneath my shed is a concrete basin roughly 10'x10'x6'. I've never quite understood what the purpose of the reservoir as for. We discussed the possibility of using this as a catch basin. Tony received the necessary approvals to make it happen. Tony and his team came out and were able to redirect the flow of water into the catch basin if the backflow preventer was activated. I installed a camera in the well. When serious rain falls, I can watch the system at work as the backflow preventer is activated, the basin fills, and once a set level is hit, the pumps clear the basin into an area in my yard. We could not be happier with the amazing job and professionalism this company did for us At a very stressful time, they made it easy, and actually fun. We had a very, very bad case of drain flies that were caused by corroded sewer pipes. Our whole basement had to be dug up and replaced. Our front yard also needed to be dug up and replaced. Every person we dealt with, from the first minute they answered the phone until our very last minute of the job, was over the top wonderful and they all need to be recognized for their greatness. Arthur came to do the quote and warranty work, Trisha in the office, John came out to just answer our questions in person and run through what was gonna happen, what we called the A team, Justin, Chris, Koa, Jack and chip. Update to my post. I received a call from Universal Plumbing on July 9th regarding my post. At first the individual seemed genuinely concerned and then I picked up a condescending tone. After I let her know that I had my handyman replace the toilet parts with original Kohler parts and now I'm out of triple the cost, considering the nature of the repair - The toilet is finally working as is it should by the way. The Rep asked what could Universal Plumbing do to make it right, a valid question but after seeing the numerous service revisits, since last September (original visit) up to May of this year (last visit), she should've taken the initiative and offered me some sort of compensation. I told her just give me half of what I paid in light of the inconvenience. She agreed but with conditions that I supply her with the receipts from the new repairs Really? You call that "wanting to make it right" at that point I was done and ended the conversation. Another epic failure on behalf of Universal Plumbing. What a nightmare! My only consolation is this was a minor plumbing repair and that they didn't do any major damage and I can move on. I hope others can say the same. Mount Clemens, MI- I had them out twice for sewer/drain service. The first time I just had the line snaked (cheaper) and it lasted about a year. The second time I called them I had it video-scoped and water-jeted. At all times they were professional, curtious and clean. I had to have them out again a week later as the toilet was not flushing correctly still. John came right away and put the scope down. Had a garbage disposal installed by JD. He came out on time and was friendly. That's about all the positives I have to say. The first problem came up when instead of just trying to install the garbage disposal he spent 30 minutes trying to up sell me a $400 job to bring my plumbing "back up to code". You can tell these techs are trained to up sell non-stop and he ended up wanting to basically redo my entire kitchen plumbing. I said no and just to install the garbage disposal. Everything seemed fine once the disposal was installed and I paid my $350 for his hour of work. Then starting at 11pm I'm getting calls and texts from him that he forgot to remove the knockout plug. First thing is I'm not answering any calls at 11pm nor should a business allow its employees to call that late and secondly the amount that he called and texted was getting to the point of creepy and very unprofessional. I feel like if he wasn't so focused on selling me the extra $400 job he wouldn't have forgotten about the plug. Long story short, I did not want to have him back in my home so I finished the job myself and still paid them $350. I will probably try to dispute this through my credit card company. This wasn't a clog or a leak; this was a request for a quote to repipe our galvanized lines and I am not going to pay for a quote. They seem afraid of competition and try to lock the homeowner in because an out-of-pocket investment is made. The "valuable time of a tech coming out" is baloney. I asked to schedule a quote; then you schedule when a tech is in the area. Better yet, hire salespeople or have management issue quotes if the tech's time is so valuable. I suspected this was an expensive project so we are shopping and Universal just seems unwilling to compete. read more

The prior plumber left a terminated pipe length of 12" that crimped, not capped. Over two years the pipe pressure finally created a small leak at the crimp. Universal Plumbing came out and eliminated to excess pipe capping it at the T like it should have been initially. Their pricing is fair and their people are professionals. read more

I had a bad experience with this company. I had a leaking pipe from my sump pump to outside. They came and cleaned out pipe $400. Then suggested we have the high powered clean out to get more buildup $850. After doing both, a week later the pipe was still leaking. They suggested another high powered clean out. At that point I felt like I was being scammed! I called and spoke with Tony (manager) . He offered to come out and do another camera inspection free of charge. I declined.
