We went here for the first time last night after seeing The Happy Hour menu and reading all the great reviews. We were not disappointed! Margaritas were great, the chips and salsa were delicious. My husband had the sampler and I ordered off the regular menu. Everything was very good. Our waitress was super friendly and made us feel very welcomed. Everyone including the bartender, thanked us and said goodbye as we left. The only negative, it was pretty chilly in there. I had to leave my coat on throughout dinner. We really enjoy this place. The staff is always kind, the service is good even when it's busy. The shredded beef is unique and really good my only gripe is the smell of the cleaning chemicals. I'm not sure if they use Fabuloso but it smells like they do and it's a very strong offensive smell. (Like walking into an AMPM) if they're using the appropriate chemicals in their sani water they should be able to use that to wipe down the tables rather than spray scented chemicals onto them - especially when people are eating. And maybe use just plain soap and water to mop the floors in the evening. It's nice to walk into a restaurant and smell the food not artificially fragranced chemicals. Take out is always an option and they have the truck too so if you're sensitive to smells it's worth getting take out :) read more

I had to give this place a shot after reading many good reviews. Tonight me and my girlfriend decided to try Nelson's in the wit and let's just say $79 dollars later we left very disappointed. The ambiance was very warming and welcoming all of the staff were very nice and kind but lacked in checking in at least our waitress. When our food was brought to the table we asked for chips and she offered salsas but never brought them and even checked back in with us but at that point our food was gone. I ordered the fajita's mixtas and it was very disappointing I grew up in the Central Valley of California were the Mexican food is made with so much love it's hard not to find a good spot but in all my experience of ordering fajitas it came out on a cast iron skillet sizzling but this was not the case at Nelson's my fajitas were brought out on a cold plate and the steak was like jerky the chicken was dry and the shrimp was rubbery and everything on the plate was just luke warm. I also got a margarita drink special and "upgraded" it with better tequila and it tasted mostly like water. Unfortunately I will not be back to this establishment my wallet and my stomach left sad tonight. read more

We decided to give this place a try on Cinco De Mayo. We knew what to expect by way of crowds but it was just two of us so we to the bar. Comfy seats and a birds eye view of the bartenders, servers, and a little glimpse of the cooks. I enjoyed it. We were greeted immediately and got our drinks at what I would consider was a reasonable time considering how busy they were. My wife had a margherita and I took a sip, wow it was good. They make their own mix and you can tell. She had shrimp tacos with mango salsa, excellent! I had the taco salad with El Pastor. Very generous portions and delicious. We'll go back for sure.
