We were warmly welcomed and seated upon entry. The gentleman that bought us tortilla chips and salsa was friendly and vibrant. Our server was nice too. Even though the service was inviting, we were not too impressed by the food. The steak did not have the flavor we were hoping it would have so the meal was pretty bland overall. The service was great but the food unfortunately did not satisfy what we were looking for.

I was in the Oakway area, and wanted supper... so stopped in at Chapalas. My first time here. Staff was friendly and I was seat immediately. They brought some nicely hot tortilla chips, and some salsa quickly... as well as some water. Checking out the menu, I ordered the Carne Asada Y Mas (I wanted a chile relleno, but it turns out they do them omelette style, and I prefer the fried whipped egg white type relleno) - So for the Mas... I ordered a chicken enchilada. Carne Asada was excellent! Beans were tasty, rice was ok... guacamole was delicious. I took the enchilada home with me for lunch the next day (it was huge and delicious.. full of tasty chicken!). I would eat here again.

I have loved Chapala for so many years. I came in here with my husband for dinner earlier, to celebrate my birthday. We were immediately greeted and seated. I ordered tortilla soup and a combo platter, and a Pepsi without ice. My husband ordered the deluxe sampler platter. Everything was exactly as ordered, hot, delicious, and perfect. I love their tortilla soup. I make great tortilla soup, and theirs is absolutely amazing. My husband's go-to is the deluxe sampler, he loves the bacon wrapped shrimp. Employees are always great. They smile, listen, and customer service is always on-point. Restaurant is clean, comfortable, and always nice. One of the things I love about Chapala is their consistency. I always find that comforting and appreciative. It is the exact same experience every single time we go in, and that is wonderful. Will I return? Absolutely! Over and over again. My husband and I have been coming here for years, and we will continue returning for years to come. Review 1 of 2025.

    Crema Enchilada

My husband and I stopped in this afternoon and shared the crema enchilada plate, and WOW we were not expecting to be this impressed. First off, the portion size was huge. Easily enough for two people, and still under $20, which feels like a steal for the quality and amount of food. The enchiladas were smothered in a rich, creamy sauce that was flavorful without being too heavy. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, from the perfectly cooked rice to the smooth, well-seasoned beans. But the real star? The salsa. It had the perfect kick , genuinely spicy, bold, and packed with flavor. The kind of salsa you keep going back for even when you're already full. On top of the amazing food, the service this afternoon was fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and fast without making us feel rushed. It made the whole meal even better.Big portions, great prices, seriously delicious food, and excellent service -- we'll absolutely be back.

Overall, I love Chapalas. I think they have very friendly and attentive servers, and overall great food. The key is that you need to order something you will like. That could obviously be said anywhere, but I think this is the type of place that if you have a favorite Mexican dish, order that. Some places allow you to have more freedom and you can trust that whatever you try will be tasty. Chapalas is up to individual taste. There is also gluten free menu with plenty of options for accommodations. The biggest thing is that the onions and cilantro can be make or break your meal depending on your preference. If you don't like raw onions, I suggest explicitly saying "no onions" because this is a very onion-forward place! I always get the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde because it's low on onions and I know I love it! If it isn't bad, I'm not changing!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this lovely restaurant. Our party of 5 (including an infant) were seated immediately on their outdoor patio. It had been a hot day (97) but the cooler weather & shade provided made it very pleasant. On Wednesdays, during the summer, the mall offers outdoor entertainment on the grassy area so we had front row seats to the entertainment. My relleno costenos was EXCELLENT! The sauce was so tasty & their rice & beans were well prepared. Our other dishes of pork quesadillo & burrito relleno were very good. All our portions were huge - more than enough for lunch the next day. My only suggestion would be to wipe down the highchairs between customers - ours was pretty nasty. This was our first visit to this mall & we were very impressed.

This place is normally MUY BIEN, a classic!! But... they have missed before. Let me just say, don't get the tortilla soup. Besides that excellent service, and it's a beautiful place! Especially outside.

Amazing Jalepeno Queso Dip & Salsa

We ordered the jalapeño queso to start and it was phenomenal. We enjoyed that and the chips & salsa while we waited for food. Getting waters kinda took a little bit, we also had a beer ordered to table and that was the quickest thing that arrived haha we were there on a Friday around 5pm. There were a few tables full and more people coming in while we dined. I ordered a quesadilla with upgrade to asada. It was loaded with lots of filling which was nice, but overall not my favorite. I had plenty for leftovers which is always appreciated. My husband got the carne asada plate with flour tortillas and was excited cause we thought they had homemade tortillas, but they we're definitely store bought. Was a bummer, but maybe we were mistaken with this assumption of homemade ones. Nonetheless we enjoyed our meal & the ambiance was nice. Our waitress & others in there were helpful and our food was quick to come out. I only remembered to take a pic of queso and salsa / chips. I was too excited & hungry for my meal we forgot!

Despite the poor plating this queso was delicious.

My husband and I came here for a Happy Hour date because their website clearly said they had Happy Hour every day 3-5 p.m. but we were told they do not do Happy Hour. That was quite a disappointment but we stayed anyway. We had chips & salsa, queso, and some margaritas. The margaritas were pretty good, though pricey. As other reviewers have said, the queso was great and the chips were fresh. We decided not to have any other food from the menu based on what other reviews have said. Over all our experience wasn't unpleasant but really nothing about it made me excited to go back. It's a fine enough place if you want to grab some chips and drinks if you don't care about Happy Hour prices.

    Taco Salad

There's a lot of Mexican places to eat around here and this location by far served up the most impressive presentation I've seen between Mexican restaurants in Eugene and Springfield. I mean take a look at that taco salad, it almost looks like a waterfall! We ended up coming back to this location just to re-order the taco salad a couple weeks later. The tortilla was nice and crunchy. We were given chips and a mild salsa at our table. The salsa that they served with their chips wasn't really anything to write home about but, their hot sauce definitely hit the spot. My partner had fajitas and they use the same cut of meat, definitely flavorful, but I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the peppers they used. The strawberry margarita was exactly what I expected. Looking forward to trying different things here in the future, if I can resist the taco salad of course. I'd say this is our new go to Mexican spot between Eugene and Springfield.

I was greeted right away and told to pick any seat. There isn't a traditional bar area, just seating throughout the restaurant. The space itself is really cute and welcoming, although it was very quiet with only one other table occupied during my visit. After looking over the menu and hearing both the online praise and my server's recommendation, I decided on the birria plate. It arrived in a reasonable amount of time. One small detail that stood out was the presentation--the consommé was simply spooned onto the plate, which made everything look a bit messy. The birria itself was tender and flavorful, but it still felt like it was missing something that would have made it memorable. The rice was disappointing, using a frozen-style vegetable medley with lima beans, which, in my opinion, didn't belong in the dish. The beans on the side were fine, but nothing particularly noteworthy. At $28, I expected better quality, a more polished presentation, or a larger portion. While the meal wasn't bad, it didn't live up to the glowing reviews or justify the price, and I left feeling underwhelmed.

Upon entering, we only were able to find high table seating on metal, backless stools and one low seater booth. I am physically unable to sit on those high stools due too balance issues because I have had Multiple Sclerosis for 16 years now. I may look " normal" while sitting still but my mobility and balance are an ongoing struggle in my life and has robbed me of so much. My husband got us waters then got in line when i noticed a sign on the table saying to please order before getting a table. My husband was already in line and ready to order and pay for our food. Less than a couple of minutes of me sitting there I was approached by a blonde staff member and she touched the table and asked me if I had someone in line to order. I replied that I did. She then told me that there's a long line building up and that I would need to leave the table because we hadn't yet placed an order. I explained to her that I am disabled ( even though I should not have to even do that ) and that I'm physically unable to sit at the high tables. That the only available low seats, inside and outside, were all taken other than this one booth. She then repeated what I had just told her and then asked again if I could only sit at the low tables, to which I replied yes. I was then told that I needed to leave the table and could go sit on a bench by the door and wait there and that the rules are for everyone regardless of the situation. I was so embarrassed and shocked that I started to tear up and told her that we would leave and went to motion to my husband that we had to go. As soon as we got to the car I started to cry and he was asking what was going on. He was so upset that he went inside to talk to the manager. He explained everything that happened and that I'm disabled and there was nowhere else for me to sit and eat. She apologized and said I could make a reservation to come back later for a low table. He told them no and that I was already embarrassed and crying. I'm trying to figure out how, since there was an open table that accommodated my needs and I was there, why this was such an issue. There was plenty of seating open but the tables were tall. What if there's another person unable to order for themselves because of a disability or they're elderly etc. ? Maybe make all tables low tables if a rule like that is being implemented? The business was happy to take our money but wouldn't give ea place to sit and eat. On a good note, we wound up going to Laughing Planet and had not only excellent service but really good food. I got the Korean BBQ Bowl with chicken, which they happily subbed for me, and it was so fresh and good. I really loved the quick pickles that came on it and would recommend it to anyone to try.

It was a Thursday night so it wasn't too busy and we were able to get a spot in the parking lot without any issues. We were greeted immediately by a friendly hostess and shown a table. We got chips and salsa for free (a staple!) while we looked over the menu. I got the pollo a la crema and my partner got the steak fajitas. My food was great! It came with three tortillas, I got flour. My partner's food also came with three (flour) tortillas. You have a choice of corn or flour when you order. The chicken and crema sauce tasted so good! I wish I had a spoon so I could drizzle the sauce over the chicken in the tortilla but I just ended up dipping it instead and that worked fine. The steak fajitas were also good! The rice and beans were just okay, they didn't seem to have much seasoning and needed a lot more salt. We were seated in a cozy little sunroom with a bar. The whole place looked very clean, even the fake plants way up by the ceiling didn't look dusty at all. The people working here were very nice and attentive. The prices were also very reasonable for the amount of food we got - I have lunch for another day! All in all this was a great spot! I definitely want to try more things on the menu. But for the most part very good the enchiladas are fabulous, the tlayuda delicious and many other meals. I genuinely liked this place. But after tonight, I have to say that the complete lack of respect shown toward the food was mind-blowing. There were three things tonight that simply could not be forgiven. 1. The Ceviche Trio The pulpo was chewy as a bouncy ball wrapped in rubber bands--completely inedible. The fish had no salt, no acidity, and was cut so poorly that I made the joke that the cook must have forgotten his knives at home, thrown it against the wall a few times, and said, "Well, that's good enough." The shrimp was effectively a cheap riff on shrimp cocktail, if they had remembered to clean the shrimp before serving it. I've had better ceviche from Taco Bell. Granted, that was from a vagrant selling what I thought was ceviche outside Taco Bell, so take that for what it's worth. Either way, it was loads better. I hope it was fish. 2. The Al Pastor Tacos -- "Served Table-Side" When you read that something is being served table-side, you imagine someone coming out of the kitchen with beautifully marinated, succulent pork piled high on a proper trompo, topped with pineapple, slowly roasting and caramelizing away as you wait for it to be carved right there at your table. Instead, out comes a busser with a trompito, spinning a metal skewer and attempting to give the meat some sort of roasted effect with a blowtorch emblazoned with "Ace Hardware." He then passes me this metal box containing room-temperature, dry pork that tasted like it was made with a seasoning packet. Not to mention there was no practical way to eat it. You basically had to tear the meat from the skewer with your hands because the apparatus was so cumbersome. If the butter knife provided had actually been capable of cutting the meat, it would have fallen directly into my lap. It was as if they took the iconic mid-century dish made famous in Mexico City and decided to serve it à la Easy-Bake Oven. This was an absolute failure of a dish from concept to execution. 3. The Pork Fajitas We have all had and loved fajitas: sizzling meat, onions, and peppers arriving at the table still sizzling away. This was not that. This was stew meat in a puddle of broth. Soggy and overcooked, with no caramelization and barely any flavor. One Positive My brother said his pork belly tacos were nice. And honestly, that's part of what makes tonight so disappointing. We've been here several times. I genuinely liked this place. I understand that not every dish is going to be a winner, and I've certainly had meals here where I thought, "Well, I won't order that again." But tonight wasn't a matter of one disappointing dish. It was three dishes that felt like nobody involved had any respect for what they were supposed to be.
