We were greeted by a lovely lady who took our names and allowed us on board. Once on, we found perfect seating in the front of the boat and were informed that beverages were being served below. How fortunate that they had a really nice selection of wine, spirits and cocktails at a very affordable price. As for the trip itself- it could not have been more perfect! The boat ride was comfortable and our tour announcer, I did not get his name, was so informative and told us a great history of the area! He was so good that when we got back to our friends' home that evening we even watched The Final Hours co-written by Cory Sherman a friend of our guide. What a great way to end a beautiful day! This trip was all about giving our two-year-old daughter the best possible boat adventure (with the bonus of celebrating an early Father's Day for my husband!), and Captain Donny made sure it was everything we hoped for. He was so kind, welcoming, and wonderful with all of us, especially our toddler. We chose the one-hour tour, and it was perfect. We explored the beautiful Elizabeth Islands, and seeing Naushon Island from the water was spectacular. I've spent the last 44 summers on Cape Cod, and somehow I'd never experienced these incredible views. It felt like discovering a whole new side of the Cape. We also loved hearing about Captain Donny's family's connection to Landfall, one of our favorite Cape Cod restaurants! We went on a rainy day to see some whales. What was interesting is that the whales tend to be in…read moreone spot, so all of the ships were circling around an area just past the tip of Ptown. The ride out was fine and I took some ginger pills beforehand. I stayed on the outer deck, but it was COLD! Definitely worth wearing extra layers and maybe even a winter jacket when venturing out, even in dead of summer. The ride back, I had to choose between cold and nausea, and I chose to sit in the enclosed area in the middle which made me feel so sick but being cold again for the hour or so ride home was not my cup of tea. The in-between: We saw so many whale families. Many of them breached. A few were saying "hi" smacking the water with their fins. Another totally jumped and spun in the air before crashing back into the water with a huge wave. On the way back to port we found one feeding using the bubbles method! I was in the middle area and too sick to get up but I saw someone recording the whole thing and got to see it from their phone! Overall it was awesome. The one thing that's a little bit disappointing is that they tend to go out twice a day. I learned later that that's because they're on a strict schedule with regards to high and low tides at their docking stations. We lingered out a little bit extra for that final breached whale, and rushed back to port to avoid getting stuck at sea. The price is a little steep but it covers the cost of staff, fuel, and other boat needed things. At the end of the tour the guide (describes what you're going to see and what's going on around the vessel in the water) asks for tips and you can drop a few bucks into a bucket as you disembark the ship. We journeyed out to Stellwagen Bank and saw 30 WHALES, dolphins and grey seals! It was an exceptional day for viewing these amazing creatures. I would like to highlight our tour guide and narrator, Lindsay who is a naturalist and someone whose passion, expertise and knowledge was palpable. She is articulate and personable combining just the right amount of enthusiasm and humor throughout the trip. You could feel not only her energy but her authentic respect and devotion to educating others about these giants of the ocean. There's a lot of interesting and good information, and I liked the people. But.... The first half of the tour is in an old mini bus. The bus has tiny windows, like 4" square, and no air circulation. No fans. No air conditioning. Today was nearly 90 out by 10 am, when our tour started, and temperatures inside the bus got so hot that stepping out felt cool! You don't travel far, and then they stop for 10 minutes to talk about what's out the window. It's brutal. Ironically, the travel distances are so slim most people could walk it. But, just sitting on the bus in the heat? Yuck. The second half is in an old shed where you learn about harvesting. Again, it could be interesting, but it's a good 10° hotter, even with the fans going, and it makes it hard to focus. Or even listen. Better weather would have helped. But, we had an old lady in our tour group nearly pass out, and the guide indicated that that was not uncommon. Heck, complimentary water would be nice. Waters are a dollar. The tour is fifteen. It's all cash only.

Hard to overstate how great a time we had on our trip! We were two families with 4 children…read morebetween 5 and 10 on the sandbar trip, which is geared toward kids. From the moment we arrived at the boat, our guide Andrea had all the kids completely engrossed: she had a table set up with live shrimp, fish, sea squirts, etc. ready for the kids to look at under magnification. After a 15 minute ride out to the sandbar, Andrea led us around on foot for about an hour and it was fascinating! Her ability, with almost every step, to identify creatures with interesting stories was a blast for kids and adults alike. Her knowledge is encyclopedic, and her manner is pure enthusiasm. Get on the boat!
