I don't even know where to begin. I'm so blown away! I'm in shock that just from sending Jess info in an email she was literally able to put what I wanted into a tattoo. I went in for my appointment and first off this place is by far the cleanest, most Covid cautious place I've ever seen since the pandemic. Which I absolutely appreciate. Everyone wears a mask, YES YOU HAVE TO WEAR A MASK! I love it! While getting tatted I watched Corey, another artist cleaned his space after a client and I reassure you it's not just sterile it's SUPER STERILE! They wipe everything down and disinfect everything and start fresh! Now back to the best part. I only told Jess I had a dream about my tat and I envisioned Totoro in a plane with a mouse and camera and the planes name was Rosie.(grandpa always called me that RIP) she brought so many elements in this one piece. I was anxious and nervous about the plane...she like KNOCKED IT OUT THE PARK! I can't stop looking at it. Also not to mention my tat did NOT hurt at all (except by my knee lol that part sucked(to be expected) lol Thank you for your vision and making my dreams come to life! Anyone who knows me, knows I am extremely picky when it comes to picking a tattoo artist and a shop. Let's all remember, this ink is permanent! I often drive down riverside on my daily commute to work and have always noticed this shop. After months of researching and reading reviews I finally decided to contact Josh. To my surprise Josh responded very quickly and was very interested in the work I wanted to have done. I shortly met up with him for a consultation and i knew he was my artist for this piece! Very approachable and down to earth artist! On the day of my tattoo I arrived early with Josh still prepping his station. He invited me back and showed me his hand drawn idea of what I wanted. It looked amazinggg! We began and four hours later I was finish! He's very easy to work with and very professional. The shop itself is very clean with a lot of great artwork scattered around. I was also able to talk with another artist briefly named Jessica, she also does amazing work and was very friendly while we chatted during a 5 min pause for the cause break. This one is for Low, who was nothing short of professional, honest, mellow and detailed! My mother wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate this past Saturday and asked me to find her an appointment. Naturally everybody in Sac was booked out, but I took a shot on Reclamare. Low took us last minute, and later revealed his books actually had been closed but he liked our ideas so much that he took us in even though he had been working since 10 am. I deeply appreciated that, I know how peoples time is valuable! On top of that he was very throughall with sterilization, extremely detailed with his work and made sure to check on our well being during the tattooing process. We ended up with gorgeous pieces and were extremely happy with the experience. Only downside is his work is so good he makes me want more tattoos (haha) If you want flawless work from a chill, sweet artist then it's worth waiting for Low's books to open. read more

After many failed attempts to find a decent artist, I came across Reclamare on Yelp and read many amazing reviews about Josh and his work. When I came in for a consultation, he was very friendly and open to my suggestions about my tattoo. WORTH THE WAIT! So so happy with my beautiful and super detailed tattoo. The entire process was amazing and perfect. They are appointment only so you have to ring a bell for them to let you inside. I loved that there was no distractions for the duration of my appt. Once inside, I scanned a barcode on my phone which brought up my consent forms that I filled out electronically from my own device. Easy peasy! The lobby is so cute with a leather couch and a small library. The entire place is covered in really cool artwork. I loved the entire vibe of the shop. They have black out curtains so you can't see outside and outsiders can't see inside (this was personally my favorite thing). Music was playing softly the whole time and I noticed air filter type machines. Shop was super clean but also so welcoming. Jess was A M A Z I N G. Except for a brief nine month hiatus while I was pregnant, I got tattooed here almost every month for the last two years, by Chris Yoakam. I have so many positive things to say about the shop, and the people who work here. First, Chris is a completely awesome guy and (I hesitate writing this because I don't want him to get super booked up and not be able to get me in) a badass tattooer. He is so fun to talk to while you're sitting there for hours getting tattooed and he had great ideas with how to color and piece together my sleeve. I should've started with this, but I am absolutely in love with the work I got done! I've been tattooed by some creepy dudes in my day, and Chris may be totally comfortable and like I was family. The rest of the crew at the shop is awesome too, I had the chance to talk with each of them through my many visits and 1). always felt super welcome there, 2). saw consistent, high quality work from each of the artists there. I have been in lot of different tattoo shops and this one is by far my favorite; the experience here is completely different. I came here yesterday afternoon to get a piece (Phoenix) done by Corey. I had loved Corey's work for a while, but I knew that scheduling with him was hard to do since he's high demand. When he announced that his books were open, I shot him an email asap. About a week or two later, I received a response from him and set up a consultation. He was super easy to schedule with, also. The day of my consultation I was a little nervous to be meeting with him face to face as I didn't know what to expect. To my surprise, he was so nice and personable! We went over the tattoo in detail and he also took measurements of my arm to know exactly how big it could be. The day of my tattoo, it was such a smooth process. He brought over the stencil to make sure it fit exactly as we had envisioned and then set up his station. Once we got started, he was extremely easy and talked to me quite a bit about how he got started in tattooing, what he wants to do in the future, etc. All of this really helped me feel at ease while getting tattooed and it actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting, pain wise. The session took about 3 hours total and I can't wait to go back for the shading and coloring. Corey is a dream to work with! If you have the opportunity to get work done by him, take it! read more

I first met Jessica Ann White (hereafter referred to as JAW) when she was working at Side Show. Some of my friends got tattooed by her and they were very happy with her vibe and the pieces she did. I was intrigued by her art, her ethereal and almost anime-like female forms. So when I wanted a large side piece of Ghost in the Shell's Motoko Kusanagi, JAW was the girl for the job. JAW's new shop Reclamare is recently opened and is still a bit sparse, but has potential as a nice slice of awesome. There's vaulted ceilings and plenty of space for pretty art, gallery shows, Second Saturday events, and of course the happy buzz of multiple tattoo needles. The space she used was a section of wood flooring, illuminated with umbrella lights. I felt like I was on a set and my tat was the star ;) When it comes to the actual tattooing, JAW has a light touch and speed that doesn't sacrifice quality. She handled my design's intriciate linework quite well, even the tiny details. It's almost a week after my first session and my large side tattoo is healing nicely. Had my first tattoo done here, yesterday, by Dave Barnitz, after my daughter recommended the place and we dropped in for a consultation with Corey Bernhardt on Monday. Dave listened to what I wanted and came up with a beautiful drawing. It's elegant, simple, classy -- exactly what I was going for. I originally thought I might go with black-only ink but Corey suggested I consider color to reinforce the design. I'm so glad I did -- the color work is what I love most about it and it definitely makes the piece pop. Cost: It's about what I'd pay for a piece of original art in my home. There was no charge for the consultation or drawing; I was only charged for the time I spent under the gun. Maybe that is normal, but I would have paid more and still felt I was being treated fairly. The studio is so nice, I was made to feel exceptionally comfortable, and honestly it didn't even hurt as bad as I expected it to. Most importantly though, I am so happy with this beautiful symbol on my arm. Reclamare is an excellent place to get your first tattoo! read more

The quality of their work is really good. The reason I give them two stars is because, this is not a "business" in a traditional sense; this is very much an "art gallery" where the artists all hang out and have fun and, if you're lucky, for $200-$350 per hour (cash only) they will also draw on you. The artists are very bad about returning calls, emails, etc, and will very quickly remind you in many ways that they are doing you a big favor by tattooing you. For example, my artist, Dave Barnitz, asked a client Corey Bernhart (shop owner) was working on if he was a pedophile, or if he defended pedophiles in court, because the client was an attorney with no tattoos. Charming; also a good thing he didn't say that to me. I'm sure this is a lot of fun for the artists, but, they will get older, their wait list will decline, and eventually, they may have to think about..... Providing decent Customer service in their old age. PS, just for context, I have over 70 hours of work done including two sleeves (one about 30 hours, one about 20 hours), a large portrait that took about 6, various medium to smaller tattoos, and got abput 16 hours of work done here. I knew what I wanted and just needed to find an artist who's style could emulate it. After narrowing, I finally made an appointment with David Barnitz. Though I have one other small tattoo, this was my first big piece. David gets just as excited as you do about your tattoo and really wants the outcome to be better than you expected. He responded to my emails quickly and took any feedback that I had about the initial drawing. What an amazing shop. Never mind the people that work there, the art alone is amazing. I came here this past weekend to get tattooed by Alfredo Matta (per the recommendation of a friend) and can't even speak highly enough of Alfredo, the shop, and the other artists. The shop is located near the Target on Broadway. There's plenty of street parking and it's nice how close it is to Target. I actually took a walk there before getting started to grab something. The shop is also a gallery so looking at the art was wonderful. These people are seriously talented. There's also a nice little yard in the back which I went out to in the middle of my tattoo to get some fresh air. The shops hours are 12 - 7 most days but Alfredo had me come in at 11 to accommodate his busy schedule. It's nice that the hours can be flexible, because it can be difficult to match schedules with someone. Once we got everything set up and the stencil put on my leg, the other artists started trickling in. I loved them all. They were all curious what we were doing and were interested on the progress, even though they were all working on other patrons. And the work they were doing was just as beautiful. I had an amazing time getting a tattoo here. My artist, Josh, was extremely helpful, flexible, and creative. I saw that his books were open on instagram and emailed him. After going back and forth, we met for a consultation and to take measurments of my arm. A couple of days before our first all day session, he sent me a draft of his sketch. I asked for a different lamp, since I was unclear when I first talked to him [my bad! Lol]. He adjusted the sketch and it came out amazing! I gave him my idea and he basically added his creative flair. It took two all day sessions, since my skin was somewhat hard to saturate. It came out great! I highly recommend this shop. I've had a fair amount of ink placed on my body over the years, but don't plan on having any further work done unless it's by David Barnitz at Reclamare. First, I consulted with Dave about a coverup for a stupid, old, janky tattoo on my left forearm. We talked for a while in the (awesome, comfortable) studio space. Not long after, he emailed me some ideas and sketches based on our conversations. I selected the idea I liked best, and off we went! The resulting tattoo is beautiful. Few recognize it as a coverup and I get many compliments on the design, placement, and colors. But Dave's other drawings were also awesome, so not long after, I went back and had him place one on my right forearm. This one gets even more compliments. It's really gorgeous. Dave is a talented artist who truly listens to what you want, and creates amazing custom pieces. He's also super cool to hang out and talk with during the tattoo itself. I no longer live in Sacramento but Josh gave me my two first tattoos when I was 18. They are big tattoos as well. He's a very nice, personable guy who does amazing work. All the artists there do amazing work. My favorite thing besides the tattoo artists, is the building they're in. They all have artwork all around the walls and the shop is amazingly clean. They are artists before they are tattoo artists, and that is something I really respect. They all have amazing drawing skills. Josh actually did a lot of free hand work on my back piece. Got an existing tattoo touched up yesterday and this by far has been my best tattoo experience. The atmosphere was amazing and the artists were spectacular as well. My fiancé and I were originally going in to have a consultation with one of the artists but he forgot about our appointment ( I won't say his name because he flaked but even still he's a sick tattoo artist!!). The boss, who is also a GREAT artist, quickly fixed our problem and offered to have me come in to fix my tattoo the next day even though he was all booked! Talk about great customer service! When I came in he and his wife, who is also an amazing artist, both had cool conversation and good vibes and made me feel very comfortable and at ease while getting my tattoo fixed. I never thought I'd let a tattoo artist freehand draw on me but I did and I'm glad Corey was the one to do it. After finishing my tattoo I scheduled for my next appointment and Corey gave me a card telling me when I could expect an email from him with sketches for my next tat idea. Wow! Never had that done before either. Overall I'm very happy with my experience and the artist that I met. Definitely recommend this place!! Ps. I really wish I could give a better review. Jessica is a very talented artist, and a total sweetheart. I followed her work for over a year before requesting an appointment. I love the tattoo she created for me, but it's now been 2 years post-healing and I'm dealing with the consequences. The outline of the design is still raised in certain areas where a lot of black pigment was used. It's happening mainly on the tips of two crossing arrows. I have other tattoos, so I'm certain that it isn't an ink allergy or improper care. These lines seem to be bleeding, which is super alarming to me, I have a 7 year old piece on my side for an extremely experienced artist, and the lines still look so sharp and thin to this day. I've done a little research, and it looks like improper depth or angle, too much power, or going over the same area far too many times. Overall, I recommend considering an artist's tenure before booking a session. I didn't, and I now have permanent scarring. read more

Horrible communication with clients. I waited almost a year to get a tattoo from Jessica and she then stopped replying to my emails and Instagram messages. I don't understand why this shop even has a phone number, they've never answered the phone or return voicemails. I've probably left at least 4 voicemails and have tried calling at various different times of the day. No one ever answers or returns calls. The only way to get in contact with her is through Instagram comments, if she even feels like replying. I once left a comment informing her that I was having trouble getting ahold of her and she deleted my comment. I understand she's probably busy but you can't run a business where you just ignore customers. I would understand if she had just said she didn't have time for me, but almost a year ago I was promised through email that I was on her shortlist of clients with approved ideas for tattoos. I got one email last month asking me if I would like an appointment. When I said yes, I would like an appointment, she never confirmed and completely stopped replying altogether. Thanks for getting my hopes up after I waited patiently for months and months. I've never had this problem with tattoo artists in the past. read more

It seems that everywhere you look these days, a new tattoo shop has popped up in a strip mall or empty shop front across town. A lot of times you can walk in and walk out, making up your mind before even taking a look at the artist's books. Reclamare is -not- one of these shops. Run by tattoo artist and Sacramento native Corey Bernhardt, Reclamare has a new sort of feel, quite different than any of the other shops I've gone to for tattoo work. The open floor and rotating artwork collection gives you something to look at while exploring the books of Corey and Jessica Ann White, the two artists in residence. The pieces on the wall are done by both tattoo artists and are for sale. Really, though, why settle for a piece of art for your wall? This is a tattoo studio, after all. (Full disclosure: I went to high school with Corey.) I looked through Jessica's book and was amazed at the quality of work; my appointment, however, was with Corey. I had spoken with him the week before regarding what I wanted - a memorial for a friend who died a few years back. I gave Corey the basic idea and set an appointment. When I went in, Corey had prepared some sketches as a basis for the piece, in several sizes. He took the time to explain the pros and cons of each size in regards to the placement I wanted. Once the decision had been made, we got to work! Corey's work station was immaculate, which is always a relief when settling in for a tattoo. We chatted as he pulled out sterile package after sterile package, and he very meticulously set up his work space. When the actual tattooing process began, I was ready for the sting (this was not my first tattoo), but was pleasantly surprised at how gentle a hand Corey had, especially for the location. The entire process was quick, but never felt rushed, and I was finished in a bit over an hour. My tattoo is a beautiful tribute to my friend - absolutely exactly what I wanted. I have plans to get another piece done by Corey in the future, and possibly one by Jessica after seeing her work. I've always wanted to get a portrait tattoo ever since my oldest was born but because portraits could be tricky to tattoo I was always picky about choosing an artist. I didn't want a portrait to not look like the person. While on yelp I found this art gallery and custom tattoo shop. I checked them out and found Steve. I saw that he did portraits and I kept going back to his page to see the portraits that he has done and finally after a week I emailed him. He responded right away and scheduled a time to come in for a consultation. That went fast as I knew what I wanted it and I had my date scheduled. I went in a little nervous as it's been 3 years since my last tattoo but let me tell you Steve had a gentle light hand that I so appreciate. His attention to detail is immaculate. He got the wispy hair in the face and the eye lashes to the great detail on her head band. He worked until he thought it was perfect even thought I thought it was perfect 30 mins before he did. and I am so happy with how it turned out. So much better than I could ever as for. Steve is truly and artist and one of the best that has ever tattooed me. If or when I'm ready for more ink I'll be going back for sure. Over two years since my first review and I'm still happily coming here every month to be tattooed. Yes I said it, I am literally here once a month to have Jessica work on one of our many projects to adorn my body with her glorious art. I have been going to Jessica for a long time now and her work just continues to improve. I feel like we have a great vibe together and she comes up with artwork based on my ideas that feel like they came out of my own head, and I'm not sure I'll ever have that connection with another tattoo artist. Her style has changed over the years, and I feel like that's a testament to her determination for improvement and willingness to learn and adapt. The shop as a whole and it's artists are a delight, and when I go in to be tattooed I don't feel like it's an appointment so much as a catch up session with old friends where I happen to leave with new additions to my tattoo projects. Everyone in the shop is a friendly and I never feel uncomfortable, despite the fact that I'm often half dressed while there. The art on the walls and the music playing in the shop make it a fun place to hang out and get stabbed by needles for a few hours. I never leave reviews but this place is awesome. I've been working with Chris Yoakum on a half sleeve and will keep coming back after this one is complete. Everyone in the shop is laid back. This is my first tattoo and Chris' approach is extremely professional and personable. Very attentive to detail and placement; you can definitely tell he loves what he does and holds himself to high standards. Definitely check his portfolio out online and see for yourself, seriously.
