It's ok, not my place. They have a few shops and a poke place. Not a lot of options to eat. Wish they had more. For what it is, it's perfect.

Great place! It has been impacted by the current guidelines, but have made accommodations with multiple benches out front. Camellia Coffee & Fish Face Poke are a must to check out! -Anthonyxibarrax

I love this market! Located on the corner of 11th and R, this building reminds me of The Basement in Reno where there are small independent shops in one location. At WAL (Warehouse Artist Lofts), you can shop for vintage and new clothing from Old Gold, records and collectibles from Medium Rare Records and Kicksville Vinyl and Vintage, grab some delicious poke from Fish Face, and sip of an amazing cup of coffee from Camillia Coffee Roasters.

Shopping & Perusing Amidst A Mixed Use/Income Art Community In Historic R Street District. SITREP While having coffee at Southside Insight Coffee, my buddy Bambi & I ran into our friend Tim and he was filling us in on his happenings: he is now at Kicksville Vinyl & Vintage inside WAL (Warehouse Artist Lofts) - this is a community of 116 rental units (the "Lofts" part of this equation) with ground floor commercial & retail space (such as Tim's store Kicksville). Bambi & I decided this was worth a gander, and so we took our coffees and headed that way... WAL-SETUP If you're thinking this building looks familiar, that's because it IS the historic Lawrence Warehouse, the main six-story structure on this block that built in 1914 AND is on the National Register of historic buildings, and is one of this downtown hood's iconic structures for more than a century now. MISSION WAL was "founded" to be a haven & living-sanctuary for creative spirits & muses to "Live, Work, Learn & Collaborate with One Another" as it's purpose statement says. To that end, everything about WAL promotes our Sacramento artist community and this is also a space where their artwork is exhibited. The makes "unit / income / rent" matrix makes for an interesting read and the logistics of how this place is designed to help artists with their living expenses: http://media.wix.com/ugd/254c4c_4eb3f6a1615940daa8be0f34e13ea3e9.pdf ART And in the ongoing expression of WAL's mission, the WAL(L) space of WAL will be filled with artwork from not only regional artists, but also many of WAL's own residents. We've already seen some beautiful, gripping works already: *Colorful Images: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wal-public-market-sacramento?select=kLM9UqTeYv8ftr9ty3hx0Q#kLM9UqTeYv8ftr9ty3hx0Q *Beautiful Portraits: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wal-public-market-sacramento?select=kLM9UqTeYv8ftr9ty3hx0Q#SAv65cJ8_FbQX8H-Nqfu0Q THE STORES! This is still a work in progress, and not everything has rolled out yet, but the ground floor commercial & retail space is already booming with some wonderful stores we got to enjoy today, such as Kicksville Vinyl & Vintage, Shop Old Gold and Benjamin's Shoe Corp. And it's absolutely amazing who you will just run into *randomly* while exploring these new corridors of this living & retail space! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/wal-public-market-sacramento#qshw1B5IY1c1C98rbmpCoA THE LOWDOWN A beautiful, maximum "re-use" of a historic structure in Downtown Sacramento, permitting our artist-community to live, to work, and flourish.

Cool relaxed public market to come hang out and shop local small businesses, coffee and poke

I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and tasty the food was at this restaurant! The pokey of the day was octopus, cilantro, cucumber, kimchi with chili oil. With a side of kimchi and white rice it made for a delicious light meal for two. They serve alcohol, with sake and beer, and I believe there are various restaurants inside of this little public square. We will have to try the other restaurants another time :-)

And we happened to park in front of what we later learned was a small local art gallery. We automatically noticed the beautiful murals, across the side and front of the gallery and then noticed a few people walking in and out. That's when we realized we were in front of an art gallery which we inspected a little closer. And realized it was free to walk in and look, so we postponed heading home to take a look inside. This is a very small place but from the front entrance you could see a sign that displayed about a half dozen artist's work was on display currently. The art was very well presented on all of the walls, both in the main sections, as well as in the back room, and the side pathway as you head back out. When leaving we realized there was also a small shop like area to bear the front entrance, where you could buy prints of some the the artwork plus various sorts of merchandise and apparel from some of the artists. My girlfriend happened to really like the artist Kosono 's work, which we learned from one of the gallery representatives. Used to work for Nintendo Japan, which we thought was pretty cool. Excellent photography gallery!…read more We visited on 2nd Saturday, this was one of the stops in between mySTUDIO and Little Relics. Currently on display is a wonderful exhibit by Ann Mitchell called "Meditative Spaces Found While Traversing The Razor's Edge". I'm not sure I found deep meaning in each and every piece but for me, art is about feeling something when you look at it, and that happened with many of Ann's prints. This particular exhibit is on display through April 4th. Viewing the gallery is free, but a donation is recommended and accepted. While everything in Ann's exhibit was out of my price range, I did enjoy the smaller displays located in the corners of the gallery. They offered less expensive prints covering a large variety of subjects. Really affordable and would make an excellent gift or display piece in any home. I can see why they don't have music, but some sort of audio track would have been welcome in the gallery. If you weren't aware that your shoes made sounds, a stroll in the gallery will make you feel like you're wearing Wellies in a rain storm.
