Came back after two years to get started on my left sleeve. Of course I had to go back to Colin! I messaged him on IG, showed him what I wanted, chose a date and time and then I showed up. I had to cancel my original appointment because I got sick, but he was understanding and accommodating so I reschedule for the week after. Upon arrival, He already had the stencil ready to put on my arm. He did his magic for 6 hours. He is light handed, which is great for the style of tattoo I want. I didn't feel anything when he was tattooing me; maybe my pain tolerance is high or he's just gentle with his tattooing techniques. The entire session felt like it went by so fast. I am way overdue on reviewing 13 Mag. Even though it's been over a month since I got a tattoo there, I just have to give them some praise for the great environment they have, good people, and quality work. I was there for their 4/20 event where they were giving deals on a large variety of pre-drawn tattoos. It's been about 15 years since my last tattoo, so I had long forgotten what to expect. The front desk staff was excellent and clearly explained the process to people. The tattoo artists were friendly as well. I was lucky enough to get Maud, who was awesome. Her tools were clean, her technique was on point, and she was a pleasure to talk to. I love my new tattoo and have gotten a lot of compliments on it. So...If that was her policy she should have told me beforehand tbh because there are plenty of tattoo artist who have no issue with reproducing a very well-known character; the reference tat is, itself, an exact copy. If I knew, I would have just gone somewhere else, nbd. + Other tattoo artists will tell you exactly what changes they plan to make so they can make sure you're ok with them. Also, I've seen her do other ones (like Goku) much cleaner? So yeah, it's not as though I'm saying things for no reason. Teeth, eyes, n face shape are off/different but like I said in my post, still a cool tattoo that I get compliments on. The details just aren't as crisp as the reference, that's all. We went to go see Robert whitcanack on a recommendation from one of our friends who had work done by him. We were not disappointed, not only was he a pleasure to hang out with while getting the tattoo, his work was absolutely fantastic! He has a very light touch and an awesome demeanor. Second time at 13 Mag and did not disappoint. Easy to make appointments and communicate with artists. Parking situation is great; they have their own parking lot so no worries about finding something downtown. Colin was our artist, he went above and beyond for me, my sister and our niece. We ran a little past normal business hours but he was super chill and wasn't annoyed or rushed our tats because of it. The shop has a super chill vibe, plenty of room to sit and look at artists work books. The shop itself is a museum of curiosities and tattoo memorabilia. Definitely going back for the next tat. I have 3 tattoos too many from here lol trying to make an appointment is like pulling teeth, can't ever get a solid answer on a day/time to come in. It's called a calendar try it sometime! 3rd tattoo, owner forgot my appointment and couldn't do it because he was high so had someone else do it. The other guy did a rush job and what was supposed to be a bird ended up looking like a sick chicken. Not only did I have to pay for this sick chicken on my arm but then had to pay additionally to get it covered up by a different artist. Owner had the nerve to trash my cover up job then said he would fix it but after multiple tries to get that scheduled I'm over it. I tried to be nice lol but you can't play around with tattoos, I trusted this place to put permanent ink on my body and got seriously screwed over. If I could give this shop zero stars I would. I walked in with my two friends and boyfriend to get some tattoos. My 2 friends got a touch up, and a small piece done by another artist. I collaborated with a different artist to come up with the idea for my piece. I've got a stomach piece and an arm piece both professionally done, and never had an issue sitting. I was a little nervous to get my piece because it was placed on my ribs, and I was worried the placement would hurt. When it was time for me to put my stencil on the artist looked at me and said " I can't tattoo you with your shirt on" I was nervous and didn't really think anything of it. So I took my shirt off and stood in just my bra in shop, mind you at this point it was just me my friends, and 2 other artists. She tried to place the stencil and then said it needs to go higher here's some tape cover your nipples. I did just that said I got this laid down and when she did her first stroke I said "OH FUCK". Instantly I had sweat dripping down my face, cold shakes, and was crying. Soon after I was like I don't know if I can do this, and she was like yes you can you got this. So I tried to keep going but pretty soon I needed a break. It. had only been a few minutes of work, but I was dying. I had never had a tattoo feel like this. For the first part of my tattoo I took breaks maybe every few minutes, and the artist kept encouraging me not to take breaks as it would mess with my adrenaline response, and we could finish faster. At one point I was crying and shaking and I said something along the lines of I can't get tattooed if I'm shaking and she responded with "yes I can I'll hold you down", grabbed my rib and continued on like it was nothing. Mind you I'm visibly disturbed by this experience. It is of not that the artist did give me the option many times to only do one part of the tattoo and call it quits, but mama ain't raise no bitch so. At the very end of the tattoo I'm like bout to start sobbing and I'm like I need a break and the artist is like "No I'm gonna finish", mind you I'm about to start freaking the fuck out. At the end of the tattoo I'm crying and sitting up and she's telling all my friends to take a picture of my work before it's covered up by the wrap while I sit there crying topless. Then she put this jank ass plastic wrap with hella tape and told me to take it off in three hours. me personally its a lot of red flags. The piece is good I think but the way the artist interacted with me lacked any empathy. read more
