This place was really good. They had the a nice mix of spicy food with a lot of flavor. I took my mom there and she's an excellent cook and even she loved it. While it's not the most happening of places, I think it's a quiet treasure in S Michigan Avenue that is great for dinner. The decor is nice and pretty formal and the service was good. Although, when I asked for the 10% discount in Yelp the host was implying that I had to give a good review in order to get the discount, which is not the best way to do business. Absolutely NO complaints! We ordered the chicken tikka masala for delivery with some garlic naan. It was outstanding! Was traditional, but had it's own unique flavor. Also I very much appreciated that it actually comes with rice. So many times I've gone to other Indian restaurants where you have to pay extra for the rice, which am I alone here when I say that's weird? Do you normally eat tikka marsala by itself? Menu was expansive. Nice selection of Indian beers. I went with the lamb vindaloo and chicken saag. Added a flying horse and king fisher beers, both light lagers, king fisher the lighter if the two. I like spicy food and it was hot but not crazy hot. My head was sweating. I chugged my beer(s). Wow. Delicious. Finished with some pistachio kalfi "ice cream". It's along Michigan Ave so finding parking is pretty difficult, but if you could find one along that block it's all free parking. The food was amazing with the spices. We had the lamb masala and the chicken vindaloo (hopefully I spelled that correctly). The dishes are in small bowls, but then again so are most Indian places. What really made it all amazing was the service. The waiters. His name escapes me, but he on of the most outspoken waiter there. I enjoy him. He'll help explain anything if necessary and he would also explain the correct way to enjoy the dish to the fullest potential. However I recieved a call today from the owner of Nepal house and he was terribly sorry on behalf of his staff. The owner on the othe hand was extremely sorry and insisted that he personally deliver the same meal to my apartment cooked by himself. Other restaurants should take note of this. I really love this place. The only thing that could possibly knock it down for me is the price. Around $14 for each meal. But they do have good portion sizes, which somewhat makes up for it. We've come here more than once, and always have gotten seated right away - there are always people in there, but it's not overly crowded. They start you off with a serving of papad, which comes with a couple different kinds of chutney. Good, but it's obviously been made some time back. This is, by far, the most bland and tasteless food I have had in a long while. It is impossible to think this is Indian food, so I will refer to this as Nepalese cuisine. We went for the lunch buffet. It was atrocious. There was no salt in the vegetarian dishes. There was a hint of the spices that are involved in preparing an Indian dish but it was then watered down to the point where it was rendered tasteless. The only way this could pass for Indian food is if someone has never tasted actual Indian food. For comparison you could taste what it is supposed to be like literally anywhere along Devon street. The non-veg dishes, were similarly diluted, the mutton was passable, the chicken though tender, tasted of cream and tomatoes, not something that could be passed as Tikka masala. I find I write this next sentence often, which is good. Yelp once again found us a winning restaurant. We were looking for something different, we yelp searched where we were and we found this nice little restaurant. We are growning fans of Indian food and thought we would stretch our taste buds a bit with this Nepalese option. We started with Chicken Momos (Nepalese pot stickers/dumplings) they were tasty and appeared fresh. We were surprised by the ample appetiser portion of 8 momos. We had the tandori Salmon that came out on a sizzling platter, ala fajitas. Very tasty, but the salmon was a bit dry (I assured my wife that is the way of tandori- am I wrong?). We had a side of a small potato and cucumebr salad which was nice and tasty, but unfortunately for my wife was too spicy. I got to finish it, yes! We added a side of onion and cilantro nann that was quite good and filling. One order could have been enough for 3 or 4 people. Very helpful and friendly staff, quiet pelasent atmosphere. We do take out/delivery from here all the time. Growing up eating Indian food everyday I'm really picky with the Indian food i'll eat but Nepal House does it right. Our go to items are the Chicken makhani and Lamb Vindaloo. Both are delicious. They make their food fresh to order and nothing is very to oily. I also like how the chicken makhani has very small pieces of chicken so it absorbs the flavor of the gravy while it simmers. The lamb is very tender and not fatty. If you're looking for you're moms Indian cooking you'll never find that but Nepal House is as close as you'll get to it. read more

I was glad to find Nepalese cuisine in Chicago. It's been a long time since I've had the really good stuff since leaving the UK. Not as good as the Gurkha food I have had before but still very tasty. Okay to start with the Nepal House gets quite busy and service can be very slow. They've got delicious papadoms with sauces. I only had the chicken madras and naan. Since "Chicago Curry House" was closed for the day, we stopped in Nepal House, and it did not disappoint! Everything from the samosas to the vegetarian combo meal was made to perfection. Bala was our server and went over and beyond. He was so kind and gracious. He treated our whole family not as strangers or customers but as family. We've been living in the South Loop for a while and ate here for the first time last week. We're so sad that we haven't tried this restaurant earlier because we love it! From the moment you walk in, you're embraced with a wonderful aroma. The menu is pretty extensive for such a small restaurant; it has both traditional Nepal and Indian food. My husband and I ordered the Tikka Masala and Lamb Masala. There were both so delicious that we literally drank the sauce. The chicken and lamb were tender. The sauce was super flavorful and creamy with a kick of spice. I highly recommend ordering one of these when you visit. We also ordered Chicken Momo (steamed dumpling) to start and garlic naan to eat with the masala. There's a large variety of naan here, and the portion is fair (6 pieces). I hate places where you only get 2 pieces of naan to eat with your meal. The momo was average. I actually prefer Chinese dumplings, but who could pass up one of "Chicago Magazine - 2007 best dish." This is the perfect place to stop by if you're in South Loop. It's also wonderful to order to go. We saw so many people come by to pick up their food to go. I really wish we discovered this place earlier! We can't wait to return! We still have to go to their buffet.
