Tried the kothu parota and was quite pleased. It wasn't too oily, and packed in a lot of flavour. The chai was below average. My dining companions had dosas that they liked. Service was quick, and the servers very patiently answered our questions. The ambience is simple, and because we went to the restaurant during the weekend, it was packed. We were sitting cheek to jowl with the other patrons, and it was difficult to have a conversation without being overheard. It's not the kind of restaurant where one wishes to linger. Parking was easy to find, and Siri is located in an area with scores of other restaurants. I highly recommend exploring the neighbourhood, and stepping into whichever restaurant looks interesting. The food was delivered on time (we ordered from 5 places and this was the only one who showed up exactly on time!). Located in Little Italy on Taylor, new Indian cuisine compared to others on the strip. I saw that people are dining in so I gave it a try. I was glad that from the menu they had most of my favorites such as garlic naan and butter chicken. I asked if they can make the butter chicken mild, which to be honest they seem to be the only place that can adjust the heat on the dish and was great. The nann was hard as a rock, not even appear to be fresh. Every entree was in a pint container. My total was $70 for 3 dishes. No service charge for credit card. I love the fact that the chicken biryani is packed and comes with hard boiled eggs and onions. The service was okay... they seemed to barely pay attention to us after getting our food. We had kind of a strange and disappointing dining experience at Siri when we stopped here for an early evening dinner on a Saturday. After a day out at a local museum, my husband really wanted Indian food, so a quick Google led us to this restaurant. Arriving there, we stood at the door for several minutes before the host/server came out of the bathroom. When she came to take our order and we didn't request naan, she seemed genuinely shocked and kept asking to confirm that we didn't want naan. It was as if it was the first time she had experienced someone choosing to not order naan. We had actually decided to order a cheese dosa instead to try something new. (Not that we expected the dosa to be an even swap for the naan, but we just didn't view the naan as a necessity.) After sitting there for about 20 minutes or longer, she came back to our table to ask what our order had been. My husband did his best to recall the exact names of our dishes. It was becoming evident that she hadn't actually put our order in to the kitchen - further confirmed as other customers who had come in after us received their orders before us. All in all, it ended up taking about 40 minutes or longer to get our entrees. The cheese dosa came out first. This is a thin rice and lentil crepe sprinkled with shredded cheese. It came with a sauce on the side that we both enjoyed, and we are glad we got to try it. Unfortunately, my Butter Paneer, a homemade cottage cheese cooked in rich creamy tomato sauce with fresh cream, was rather bland. My husband got the Malai Kofta, cheese and cashew dumplings simmered in rich, creamy onion sauce finished with fresh cream, but he found his dish a bit too spicy for his liking. This restaurant doesn't ask your preference for spice level. We would have ordered dessert if this whole experience hadn't taken so long. More importantly, I understand that mistakes happen, but we were both disappointed that no apology or explanation was offered for our wait. This restaurant does a ton of takeout business so it is very busy with people coming in and out. The dining room was also packed when we were there on a Tuesday evening but we didn't have to wait for a table which was great. This place isn't fancy but the food and employees make up for what it lacks in ambiance. I enjoyed the muttar paneer and garlic naan. Not my all time favorite Indian restaurant in the city but a great option nonetheless. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area. The staff was so pleasant and kind. According to Google, this place is in a 7-11 which is incorrect. It's next to a 7-11. We came here with some knowledge of Indian food. After conversing with our server we were opened up to a new chicken dish that went well with what we originally wanted (paneer Masala) She also recommended a few Indian sodas which were equivalent not to Coke and Sprite. Keep in mind that your food will be served on paper plates and you will get plastic utensils. I'm not sure why that is, but it does not distract from the flavorful dishes that they offer. read more

I tried masala, paneer, spring, and mysore dosa, and the spring dosa stood out as my favorite. Some friends tried manchurian and schezwan dosa, but I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference. The paneer dosa didn't have much filling. Despite its simplicity, I'd recommend this place for Indian food. The dosa night is a great way to sample different types of dosa. The restaurant is small and can accommodate small and large parties, but only one large party at a time. It's not fancy, but it's decent. The food was too spicy but true to the part of South India that inspired the food, the Hydrabadi area, an area of South India which is know for the food being extra spicy. Kadahi chicken was so spicy we had to ask for them to make another bowl for us. While still dramatically less spicy it still was pretty darned hot. The uttapam was a little bit more like a pancake and lacked the crunch I typically like from this kind of dish. I will say to balance this review out, the guys we heard on our way out we're speaking Hindi saying "this food is unparalleled". So I offer this as an alternate experience to ours, and potentially a reference that this restaurant caters to a very niched audience from the Hydrabadi part of S India. read more

Star rating is tough because.... Our food was absolutely fabulous. everything we ordered, and we ordered a lot was worth coming back for, until....... Service was not good. Waitress never checked on us once the food came out. We needed more water and she forgot our coffee. We went to the counter and took our own take out container to package up the food. OK let's get to the food: We started with the Onion Masala Dosa. First time dosa here and it was really good! The rice/lentil crepe was thin and crispy and there was an abundance of onions. There are also 3 various sauces to dip with that vary in sweet and tangy-ness. Try a bite with all 3 sauces and tell me what you think! Bullet Naan - the spicy naan they make it. The spice is there in small waves, but I like things really spicy. There is a kick to it. The chilies resembles Thai green chilies if you're familiar. Chicken Makhani - aka their Butter Chicken. This is probably one of the worst indian restaurants I've ordered from in the last year. I'll start with the Tikka masala that I ordered spicy, and it came cold with green pepper, which is not something common. The sauce was very acidic and bright red. The chicken was dry and hard to eat. It was absolutely terrible. I couldn't eat it. And then how do you screw up Naan? It was very thin and tasted old. The rasmalai was sitting on top of everything hot, so of course it overheated. It's a dessert that's supposed to be served cold. Regardless, it was also made very poorly. Tastes like cardboard. An authentic gem in the Little Italy area. I have visited pre-covid which I must say was so much better as they had buffet brunch/lunches. The place bustling and we had to share tables. To my surprise this made my experience better as everyone was having a good time. My roommate and I were the only non-Indian folks. We were making such a ruckus exclaiming how good the food was the people around us were all smiles. The chicken they had in their buffet curries was the most tender I've ever had. Albeit I haven't had much Indian chicken curries but from the 5 or so other places I've been to the chicken is just normal and dry. Sadly in this covid era there is no more buffet. They have relegated to a la carte with paper dishes and plastic cutlery. This is by no means a criticism on their part but a yearning for the old days. Food (7.5/10): I am basing this on it's current day status. The food and the experience was just better pre-covid (9/10). Dosa - always a customer favorite and fun entree in general. My one critique is that the potato filling is just lumped into the middle and not spread out. Chicken lollipop - an interesting dish I've never had before. Seems like they stick a chicken bone into a juicy piece of meat. Comes with a sauce on the side. The chicken is fried crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Very akin to a chicken karage, but better than the average. This is a great entree for sharing between 3 people. 2 pieces per person. I've tried a few curries and for some reason I can't find ones they used to serve at the buffet. Not sure if they just served different curries from the menu back then. The chicken makhani has a nice butter curry sauce but the chicken is just plain cubed typical dry chicken. Man I miss those old buffet days. Service/ambience (7/10): Pre-covid if you enjoy being immersed in the family and community crowd it was a (8.5/10) for me. You could tell people came here every weekend to eat with friends and family. A gem for the Indian community. Otherwise the service is ok. Not a commercialized but very local feel. So you have to be a bit proactive but servers are very respectful. Ambience nowadays, you'll still have a lunch rush once on the weekends I feel. Really yummy! We ordered delivery from Siri through DoorDash and everything was packaged well and arrived spill-free. We got: - vegetable samosa (2 pieces - delicious!) - onion kulcha (just ok) - mutter paneer (fantastic) - Hyderabadi goat dum biryani (fine) - egg Szechuan noodles (yummy Indo-Chinese dish) - chicken lollipop (so tender) This is definitely a new favorite. My husband grew up in Northern India and these dishes were like ones he would have had there. The only dishes we wouldn't order again are the kulcha and the biryani. This is my favorite Indian restaurant south of Devon St. it's a small lower level restaurant near UIC campus that has a very mom&pop feel. Food is served in paper plates and cups. Lamb seekh kabab is so tender and full of spices. All other tandoori fare is as crispy at the edges and delicious as you'd want. Many curry choices including vegetarian curries. The fatty in me was really wanting a solid Indian buffet to finally open up in the area and low and behold, my prayers were answered. The nearby Indian shop seems to have closed down- Siri just took away all the competition and it truly shows. Everyone including my students rave about their lunch buffet. For $12 any day of the week between 11:00 - 14:00, you have access to an incredibly large Indian buffet with all the fixings. From tikka masala to chicken vindaloo, biryani and fresh naan, the buffet had it all. You go up to the back and self-serve til your hearts content. The curries were fragrant and you can tell they were simmered for a while before being served. None of them were outright spicy so even novice spice goers will still survive. For dessert, you must try their Mango Kulfi. It was amazing, creamy mango ice cream that was the perfect end to a hearty Indian meal. The best part was that it was unlimited and part of the buffet .Each patch went by fast so grab it as soon as it comes out. Service here was on point as they kept our waters filled and our naan stash filled. I only had to get up once for naan and the rest felt like it was delivered to my table. Okay, it wasn't completely full-service, but really nice to have some fresh naan brought to us. One thing to note is that if you end up ordering takeout during the lunch buffet hours especially curry, they end up taking it from the buffet. It's a testament to the quality of the curries they serve because they are really good, but I'd be cautious if you want your food to be completely fresh. We have ordered 4 times from Siri already and we always get the same thing - Chicken Special Biryani and Hyderabadi Dum Goat Biryani. These items are always quite delicious! This time we decided to try a different order so we got Vijayawada Biryani, Hyderabadi Dum Goat Biryani, Vijayawada Chicken Fry, Andhra Cashew Fry and Schezwan Egg Noodles. Besides the Goat Biryani, every single item was disappointing :( the order was wrong as well. They gave us Schezwan Egg fried rice instead of noodles, and it lacked spice and couldn't had more flavour. They had cashews in the Vijayawada Biryani which ruined the taste for me. Both the frys lacked salt, spice and flavour. The Andhra cashew fry tasted sweet which is not at all what I expected. The Vijayawada Chicken fry tasted too similar to the Andhra cashew fry, they tasted the same, like plain chicken pieces without enough flavour or seasoning. read more

I order from Siri often, at least once a month. My go to is the paneer tikka masala - at one point I was a vegetarian, and this was my fix. I have since tried the chicken version, and the paneer is hands down where it's at. The dish is the perfect consistency of creaminess and taste. I was initially hesitant to go the paneer route due to texture, but the texture in this dish is perfect. It reminds me more of a tender piece of fish - and not at all like tofu. I can say that the naan is usually over cooked and they do not always give enough rice, but these are minor shortfalls. This dish is where it's at! read more
