I was a bit worried about my visit due to some of the negative reviews. I only interacted with two staff members but both seemed enthusiastic to help me while also giving me space to shop. The conditions of these tanks are PRISTINE. I'm not sure if it's due to their lightning or something else but the water just looks very clear and clean. I didn't see a single dead fish while browsing. Based on this fact, I'd like to believe that their livestock is quite healthy. They also make their policies VERY clear. It's on their website and there are also signs around the shop. Maybe these policies aren't that shocking to me since I buy lots of livestock online that don't have a guarantee after you add it to your aquarium. They do not have a phone number to check stock but they do post updates on their website and email newsletter. They claim it's due to high foot traffic but it wasn't very busy when I was there (Friday afternoon) with that being said, all of the staff members were doing something while I was at the store. I think they just don't have enough people sometimes. Price wise, yes some of the fish are outrageously priced ($14 for a CPD is crazy) but many of them seem reasonable. I assume it's however they're getting their stock or the fact that they offer 20% discounts if you get a 40G+ kit. They also sell cycled media for $20/lb if you're impatient to cycle a tank! I would highly recommend as a place to visit if you're just setting up a new tank or need a more uncommon/rare fish. They'll have basically anything you need but you can definitely get more common fish like pygmy corys, pea puffers, CPDs, etc elsewhere if you're looking to save money. My regular spot to get aquarium supplies, brought 2 gold fish and a pleco here, all them still alive after 3 years. Despite price is bit higher. The fish here are kept clean and healthy. Guys working here do care for the fish they sold, and gave me some good advices on how to keep aquarium in good conditions. read more

Popped by out of curiosity because I was in the area. Very clean on the inside and no fishy smell, which I appreciate. The fish looked well taken care of, with minimal dead fish or fish with clamped fins. The plants were very healthy, had zero melt, and were on sale for a reasonable price. So I've been coming out here pretty often now. The worker Thiha the Asian guy with a perm and glasses is pretty rude and is "worried" about me picking specific fish, but when I said oh I don't want this one he grabbed it with his hand and threw it back in. Weekend crew is way better or anyone else besides that guy on a weekday. Kai and Vincent on weekdays are actually pretty cool and better employees. Don't have this guy named Thiha help you he also gets really close like in your face close while just talking which is really weird. I'm only giving a 1 star because of that kid. read more

I didn't know this place existed! I'm restoring an old 50 gallon freshwater tank. And I didn't want to go to the name branded pet stores. The prices have changed for fish. But, the fishes are in good condition and clean. Kind, knowledgeable and helpful staff. This place is awesome! They have so many different kind of exotic fishes from fresh water to salt water and plants. I started getting into fishes because my son wanted his own little fish tank. They have all the equipment and supplies that you need to start your own tank at home. I love marveling at the beautiful corals and reef in the tank. The tanks are all clean, and the fishes looked healthy like everyone said on yelp. Although, I hope they would consider putting a description of each fish along with pricing and pictures so buyers like myself can compare. It'll be easier to know which fish is which along with their temper to see if they get along with other breeds. That'll be very helpful if owners can read my suggestion! They even have fresh water/salt water pumps that u can purchase for your tank. Overall, great aquarium along with knowledgeable salespeople that were helpful. read more

Best local shop in the south bay in my opinion. Clean tanks, good selection and decent pricing. Mostly great customer service with the occasional off day with an unhelpful/inexperienced staff member. I mostly shop for saltwater fish and corals. The frag tanks are a great deal if you don't want to spend a grip, and they seem to restock frequently with good variety. The store is beautiful, spacious and clean. However, I don't recommend this store for a few reasons. They refuse to have a store phone so they can focus on 'in store' customers. This means you cannot confirm current stock or pricing - but claim that their 'dry goods' (ie: not livestock) on their website is always current. I purchased something important off their website (an antibiotic for one of my fish) and made the 30 minute drive to the store. When I arrived - I was informed that the website was wrong, and they didn't have the item. I decided while I was there to buy a Celestial Pearl Danio as one had passed away while I was out of town for Christmas. To my shock - it was $14 per fish. Infinite sells them for $8. Ultimate sells them for $9. Aqualab sells them for $10. My mind is blown that Neptune prices them at $14 each. To help make up for the fact that I'd driven out there and was unable to complete my purchase - the store employees tried to track down the medication for me. They told me that Aqualab had it in stock - but that Petsmart was around the corner and had it in stock, too. I asked them to call Petsmart and confirm for me (I was without a phone, and they knew as much) - they said 'no, it'll take too long to get someone on the phone. And the website says it's in stock. They'll have it. They're only 5 minutes away.' It was at least a 10 minute drive. I get to Petsmart and - not only do they not have that specific medicine in stock - THEY DO NOT EVEN CARRY IT. So I'm extremely confused at the employee repeatedly telling me they had it in stock. I went to Aqualabs and picked up the medication. Oh, and bought a $10 Celestial Pearl Danio, in addition to receiving some very useful advice on the best way to utilize the medication. Stay away from Neptune. They're not worth the trouble. You have so many other options available. read more

But to say the least..the options they have are incredible. they hold a good amount of fresh water fish but have a Great selection of Salt water fish. The person who assisted me seem high on THC. Mellow and friendly, but way off target for someone that is managing tanks. I purchased some freshwater plants, took them home...and then suddenly became infested with the pest looking like mini Malaysian Trumpet Snails. Jeeze this ruined my tank. I went back and talked to him about it and he seemed aloof...said to just crush them with my fingers and walked away in a daze. Really? It literally became a nuisance I couldn't get rid of them. They just kept coming back. Went back a second time after things stabilized and wanted to buy some bloodfin tetras to increase our school. He gave us what seemed like them but they ended up a bit larger and a different species like mini pirahna . They started attacking our real bloodfins..poor guys died and our favorite fish Mr. Higgins gulped his last gulp...There is no words to describe how upset and disappointed we are with Neptune. I'm not sure if this guy still works there because when we went back to confront him, he wasnt around...terrible experience, so we never went back and opted for another freshwater place closer to us. Three major ones in San Jose. You guys really need to vet out your employees. This cost 7 fish lives and ruined our prestige tank. Pest filled, algae ridden. Stay away from the freshwater plants. As my husband and I enter the doors we noticed how beautifully everything was set up. The dark/black setting of the fish tanks made the fresh water fish super clean and neat. They have a variety of salt and fresh water fish that are of quality. We didn't experience the best of customer service as staff members were too busy chit chatting with each others to acknowledged us. We ended up with 2 beautifully stunning discus. Drove and hour to come visit this store and ended up buying some fish and plants after having everything settled in my pre established community tank of 2 years, my hill stream loach I just purchased for 40 dollars had died the first night, so I came back to return the fish or get an exchange as is normal and was refused any sort of compensation, 40 dollars down the drain. I haven't felt good coming here the last few times. (Both times I got there at a reasonable time before closing if not 30min before) They kicked me out 3 minutes after closing without letting me purchase anything or finish a decision. And the last time they refused to sell me an item stating it was in quarantine when it wasn't and then refused making sales as the store was closing down but in like 10 minutes. It made me feel really uncomfortable and disrespected on purpose despite coming from so far away. It feels like the people in this industry are always hitting on me or purposely misleading you on things they don't really know much about and are just there to sell. I get that the hobby is difficult and I can sympathize in the annoyance in all of you with running around for these insignificant things, but personally they aren't as important to me as you think they'd be. It's the bad energy in the overall industry that ruins and closes down on the hobby spreading from good people being treated bad or misinformed. You don't have to go out the wazoo to make up for it next time. I just hope for no problems and to get my questions answered reasonably and not feel rushed. read more

the workers here don't seem like they're very happy to be there if you even manage to get one of their attentions. i have a tank at work and when people ask me about it LOVE sharing and educating people but when i come here it seems very standoffish for some reason. they don't really have a great system of tracking who is next to get helped either. i was waiting for someone to help me get some shrimp but two people ended up getting the workers attention before i could even though they very much saw me following around looking like i something to ask. ended up leaving empty handed. prices are absolutely ridiculous too, i know this isn't a cheap hobby at all but this place is insane. i will say the quality of the plants and and fish seem good but still not worth the time and money and attitude it takes to get there. read more

While I enjoy the wide range of fresh water and salt water fish, plants, and more that Neptune Aquatics has to offer, there are some things I wish were done better The pros: Huge selection available, along with more than helpful staff. Every time I've gone, I'm almost instantly greeted and continuously checked on. Some may find this annoying. But with my experience at smaller Aquarium Stores, I've found that attention to customers can lack - NOT HERE! So this a great perk of going to Neptune. The staff is also very knowledgeable on anything you ask, and there are tons of supplies, almost anything you're looking for is here. The cons: All of that being said, there are two major issues I have coming here. I find that prices for EVERYTHING are a bit steep. I understand the high quality tanks, as well as salt water life available. I still think that certain fish, plants, and more are over priced. It's somewhat shocking, given that they probably purchase in large volumes, while other small aquarium stores never get as much, yet their prices are somehow cheaper. Additionally, I ALWAYS see dead and unhealthy looking shrimp for sale. I don't know if this is due to neglect of the shrimp alone, or if nobody knows how to properly take care of shrimp tanks. This is very bothersome to me, as I mainly care for Shrimp at home. I've bought shrimp from here before and ALL of them have died. I don't understand what it is, but it's sad to see tanks full of shrimp, sometimes almost half of them dead or not doing well. -2 Stars for high prices and poor quality shrimp and other aquatic life seen on more than one occasion. read more

I had a great experience while going to start a tank. I had no idea what I wanted but a girl named Kayla who worked there was able to help me out the entire time. She started by asking me a few questions about what I was interested in for my tank and told me about the different types of fish they sold. Kayla informed me I needed to start my tank prior to buying the fish so I acquired all of the necessary items to do so with her help. I truly enjoyed the experience shopping here and the staff were very helpful! I felt like they were not condescending during their time helping me which was really nice as well! As a bonus I really enjoyed how clean the shop looked and the cool open tanks by the entrance. I 100% plan on coming back to get my fish from here once my tank is all set up. read more

One of the best fish stores in the bay area! When you walk in you are greeted with the freshwater section with loads of options. I couldn't be more impressed! I'll list the goods first and get to why there's only 3 stars :( The store is very well kept, things are clean and organized. They also have a great selection of fishes, corals and supplies. I came around 3PM on a Tuesday and it was fairly empty and was helped right away. The staff was knowledgeable and helped me choose basically a "starter kit" for salt water fishes. Thank you btw you guys were more than helpful!! Okay onto the bad I really don't like the no return/refund policy. The owner seems to be very very concerned with that since he has 379393 signs of it posted everywhere. Something came up and I was hoping I could return the things so I shot them an email on their website but no replies. I then went to the store and asked if they could just do a 75% refund I'm okay with that too since I'm aware of the policy. The staff told me there's nothing he could do so it's not rlly his fault. TLDR: I have a 20gallon tank with pumps, led lights, sand, rocks, salt water mix Everything is still brand new if anyone is interested. This place is dope! I started getting into reefing end of January and I have been here almost 1-2 a week. Not just to buy things but to learn and get information. They have everything you need! The staff is friendly, and my favorite sales guy are Patrick and James. Patrick helped me with my corals, fish, and anything I need to know. If you are there, ask for Patrick. Pricing is decent but you have to support local businesses. I do wish some of their hardscape items are priced better. For example, a piece of $25 dragon wood can be as little as a golf ball or as big as a softball...That doesn't make any sense at all but whatever. My recommendation for that is maybe charge customers by the weight of the wood or figure out a sizing system for pricing. Golf ball does not equal a softball...
