My step-father, my mother and I all bought plans. My step father passed first, at home. I called the number on the card, they came and picked him up and everything was taken care of. That was 8 years ago. My mom passed last month in the hospital, they called and everything was taken care of, I picked her up on Tuesday. I called on January 30th, 2024, the day I was scheduled to pick up my father's ashes at the office located in Chico, Ca. I was really struggling emotionally and wasn't sure if I was ready to have him home yet. I DID need to get a death certificate delivered over to his attorney asap (they needed it and kept calling me). I explained to Suzie (with my voice trembling) that I was really struggling and needed more time to pick him up, but maybe I could just grab a death certificate and wait a few more days to grab my Dad's ashes. She cut me off in mid sentence and said (and I QUOTE); "I just don't understand why if you're going to pick up just one death certificate, you wouldn't pick up everything?" I was speechless. I didn't really know what to say after that. I felt like she was challenging me and any empathy she had was replaced with HURRY UP AND GET HIM OUT OF HERE! At least that is all I heard when she made that statement. I just TOLD YOU WHY and you still said that? Really? I got frustrated and just said "Forget it!" and hung up on her. (Yes I was mad and kind of embarrassed and hurt at that point). When I came to pick him up on February 1st, she saw me and hardly acknowledged me (which was fine by me). I am already grieving the loss of my father, I shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable coming to pick him up. When people ask "how did it go picking up your Dad's ashes" I have told people "yah, they were really nice at the initial meeting. Just make sure you pick up your loved one quickly. If you don't, they treat the situation as more of an inconvenience to them. I felt rushed and misunderstood. Suzie definitely left me with the feeling that my dad was no longer a person, and just a thing taking up space on their shelf. I think Neptune Society might need to have some more "sensitivity training" for some of their employees (Suzie). I would NEVER recommend them to anyone after this. read more

From lowering their costs of services because my dad was a veteran to being available by phone anytime day or night to answer any questions that we had, they are truly amazing. A most wonderful agency. Margaret and the Neptune Society was our saving grace at this time in our lives. We dealt with the hospital, hospice and the mortuary and no one seemed to know what they were doing. We received bad information, conflicting information and no information from all three. Things changed drastically when I contacted Margaret at Neptune. She put our minds at ease. She was fast, efficient and caring. Everything from that phone call on was handled with precision and in a timely manner. We were kept apprised of where my Mother's body had gone as well as each step in the process. Someone was always available for questions. I would certainly recommend Neptune Society to anyone. I have purchased this cremation plan for myself as well as my Sister. Probably my least favorite review to write. When my Gramma died last year they handled everything for my Mom, but I was not involved in the process. My grandfather passed away a few days ago and I was fortunate enough to be involved in the process this time. 1. When they came to pick up his body (according to my Mom) they were extremely gentle with him. They covered him with a blanket and because he was a war veteran also covered him with a flag when they wheeled him out. This would have meant the world to him because he was so proud to have served our country. They will also be giving us this flag along with his cremated remains. 2. The day after he died we went down to sign the paperwork. Everyone was very kind. The woman who helped us seemed to truly be saddened by our loss. She was very straight forward with pricing and didn't try to sell us anything extra. She was very helpful and understanding. 3. We opted to view his body, being as how his death was sudden and I didn't get a chance to say goodbye. I wasn't sure what to expect. We went into a small room. They had draped him in soft, dark blue, blankets with only his face showing. The lights were dimmed, music was softly playing, and there was a couch. We were told to spend as much time there as we wanted, no rush. It was very calming and peaceful...and I feel as though I got some closure. I know dealing with death is hard. However the Neptune Society made he process so much easier. My Mom signed all the forms quickly and we were given time and space to mourn. We won't be having a funeral, so this was our time with him. I hope no one has to use their services, but if you do I highly recommend them for their compassion and professionalism. read more

I tried to make an appointment in the office in Chico to purchase a plan. I was given the run around; I wanted to meet in the office. After all, my family will go to the office. I attempted to order online and I was charged for two plans for myself on a payment plan. I didn't sign the contract with an e-signature as I couldn't find the pre-payment penalty information. They charged me not once: but twice. I don't plan on dying twice and I don't need two plans for myself. I called Neptune and was told my VISA check card would be credited back. I met with a representative from Chico and decided to purchase a plan and pay in full. I was told I could not be credited back the two $99 charges on the full payment contract, but I would be credited back on my VISA check card to my bank account the two $99 charges. I was told it would be a couple of days as it was the end of the month closing (Feb. 28th). I contacted my bank and filed a dispute after calling Neptune one last time. Neptune told my bank I owe the money. I have no proof except two $99 charges and a $2,595.55 charge for the payment in full. I was finally able to login into the online account today. The only written information in the account states two incomplete accounts. I received an email about the online account- not two accounts. The email stated that I needed to meet with a representative within 10 days to cancel for a full refund. I did cancel the payment plan and purchased a different plan and paid in full in a meeting with a representative within 10 days! Maybe the situation is better if you can get a convenient meeting in person. Do not do anything online with this company. Let me tell you a prepayment plan was suppose to take the burden off my family. Now I get to worry that the burden is still on my family with this inept company. I am filing a complaint with The Department of Consumer Affairs: Cemetery and Burial Bureau of California and the federal trade commission. Update: I finally received my refund for two $99 charges. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at this Neptune Society and specifically with Margaret. It's always hard when thrust into a situation where I know little and have to make immediate decisions. But Margaret was incredibly helpful, and right away I felt that she was genuine. I found the prices surprisingly reasonable and she wasn't pushy at all with any extras they offer - she was straightforward on the options and prices and even gave me other suggestions on how to do things my own way. Overall she was very professional and helpful. Not that I anticipate or hope to need their services anytime in the near future... but if I did, or when I do, this is will be the place I will go. read more

I cannot proffer enough praise for the kind, sincere and most helpful people at the Neptune Society of Northern California. In a difficult time of loss, Margaret assisted us with sincere sympathy and gentleness, while at the same time, skillfully helping us navigate the many details needed to be addressed when our Mother passed. The Neptune Society's services make it so much easier for families to get through the processes that the loss of a family member engenders. My husband and I signed up for policies to insure that our children would have the same relief from so many of the challenges involved in the aftermath of a family death. We are both 68 years old, and while we are healthy and active, this "insurance policy" doesn't come too soon. It brings a sense of relief and we feel it is a responsible investment. The Neptune Society has been serving families since 1973 so you can be assured you are with a company you can trust. read more

My father died in January of 2018 and the arrangements for his cremation were handled by the Neptune Society branch in Chico. Both Marsi Hammon and Margaret Mundt were very professional, efficient, and empathetic. I simply cannot say enough good things about them. I was pleased with the sensitivity with which my father's body was removed from his home and I was also very pleased with the help that I got in placing the obituary in three different papers. I highly recommend some pre-planning and making contact with Marsi and her group early on so loved ones are not making difficult decisions during emotionally charged times. Neptune Society of Chico handled my mother's cremation five years ago. On the basis of our experience at that time we had no hesitation in calling on them for my father and we were as pleased with their handling of my father's death as we were that of my mother. read more
