Today, in this 2026 year, after trying for years to contact Payless Casket in Commerce, CA., I just saw these reviews pertaining to that company. I had signed up for an oversized casket policy which I faithfully paid for in full. I recently got a living trust so that my son's would be informed in case I passed before they would. None of my attempts to get in touch with this company were successful. All of the old numbers and contact persons that I had were no longer good. I am now left with a lot of paperwork verifying my contract with them, but is absolutely no good. There are persons at the Swapmeets in Paramount and Gardena, CA. still advertising caskets for sale. When I approach them they said to contact the Commerce, CA. office. I am a senior citizen and I paid them faithfully over $2,000 for a casket that I thought was purchased through a reputable company. This company is a fraud and a scammer. Please do not invest in this company thinking that you are getting a legitimate return for your money. Ordered light brown casket with matte finish, and received one that was reddish and glossy. In addition, the inside measurements were at least 1.5" smaller than stated. The funeral director stated it was too small. We ended up getting one from the funeral home instead. The biggest issue was the return. Despite getting the wrong product the customer service agent and her supervisor stated there would be a 30% restocking fee plus delivery! We explained they sent the wrong product and the jerk supervisor kept repeating that we got what we had ordered. More stress added to an already difficult time. This company will not get the casket to you on time for the service. They say overnight caskets, but will charge you $300 to ship it overnight, you would assume that would be free given the title of the business. Also their hours says 24/7 and that means an answering machine runs 24/7 because you leave a message and maybe they will call you back a few hours later. Even if they schedule the delivery for a certain time frame, they will do nothing to achieve that goal of it getting there in time. We had to parade the casket through the funeral home parking lot in front of another grieving family, because that's what they want to see. Would not recommend just due to them not being honest and open about delivery times, and the untold charge to ship overnight. read more

This place had a delay on my casket and when it arrived the 3.5k casket I ordered was not as advertised. It was way too dark and it was not solid mahogany the inside was plywood. I compared it to comprable caskets side by side and this was definately inferior. Put more pictures on your website for these things. The advertised casket was pretty light in comparison to what I received. They charge a hefty restocking fee for this as well. 30% and shipping costs($250) and i still havnt received the difference in payment a week later (casket was sent back a little over a week ago). I also called customer service confronting them about this non solid mahogany casket and they just told me it was solid mahogany. The funeral home director opened the casket for me and removed the lining and showed me the plywood. Its definately not solid. Also he explained to me that they paint it extremely dark to hide all the grain of real mahogany wood so it was questionable. The casket arrived exactly as promised. We ordered before 10am one day, and it was at the funeral home in perfect condition at 2pm the next day in Florida. The casket was beautiful - no issues with the quality or condition at all. I can recommend them - they delivered exactly what they promised. And the price is multiple times less (like 2 or 3 times less) than what the funeral home charges. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5: Shipping updates. Their online system is only updated overnight. So, when I expected to see "it's on the way" shortly after the time they said it would be picked up by the carrier - UPS or FedEx style - it still showed "ready for pickup". That caused some stress. The tracking number for the shipper wasn't in the online status - it arrived via an email ONLY, at 9am the next day. And it wasn't a link - I had to search for the name of the shipper, and call them to find out where it was. The shipper was an express cargo freight company, and their online system also didn't have real-time updates online. But the lady on the phone was very helpful, and the driver called with updates as the delivery time neared. It's something to be aware of. However, once I received the tracking number, I was able to contact shipping company and tracked it down to the number of stops prior to my delivery. On 9/20/14, I ordered a particular casket to be delivered to a funeral home in Virginia. That evening, someone called to indicate the casket was unavailable. WHY WAS IT ON THE WEBSITE? I was offered the choice between a substitution casket of slightly lesser value or the option to PAY $300 ADDITIONAL to have the casket I had ordered shipped to Virginia by 9/24/14. Not overnight, but four days later. While this constitutes false advertising and bait-switch practices, both of which I believe to be illegal in the US, I accepted due to my state of grief and inability to make sound judgements in the moment. Today for my brother's funeral, I find that the casket received is dented and severely scratched. It looks like it was involved in a major collision. I am heartbroken. What am I supposed to do? We had a terrible experience with Overnight Caskets. Our order was placed over the weekend after calling and confirming that the specific casket we were inquiring about would be available to ship out on Monday for an Overnight delivery for Tuesday. I was contacted Monday at 8:00AM AZ time to clarify that a request for them to remove the packing material would not be able to be accommodated. I agreed to remove that request and my family would handle removing the packing material. I was then told by the person on the phone that he would get the casket shipped out and would e-mail me the FedEx tracking information. After not receiving the FedEx tracking information, I called Overnight Caskets at 3:45PM AZ time and was assured that the casket was shipped but that he was not able to retrieve the tracking number and would contact the shipping manager to e-mail the confirmation. Needless to say, I never received the e-mail or tracking number and proceeded to contact them the following morning. I was told that he could not locate the tracking number and someone would call me back. I did receive a call back from the shipping manager asking me if it would be okay if they delivered the casket the following day. I responded with a NO the funeral is tomorrow morning.... bottom line is that I was given, in my opinion, an excuse that FedEx re-routed the delivery and it would not arrive until the following day which would have been too late for the services. It was too late to order another one, so we had to use that one. I emailed this casket company to tell them of the damage but didn't hear back from them. What a terrible company this is. I ordered a casket from here since they state they ship overnight to Nevada. We ordered a casket on Saturday with the delivery date being Tuesday, February 12th. Our service was scheduled for the 13th. The order process was very easy and we received a confirmation that the order was processed and would be shipped on Monday. I then receive an email on Monday stating my casket has shipped. On Tuesday, the day it is supposed to arrive, the mortuary calls me stating they still haven't received my casket. I then call Overnight Caskets with no success of reaching anyone and was forced to leave a message. After time lapsed and still no call back, I then started a chat which I was left in the queue forever and no one responded to the chat. At this time, I panic and call back the company and I reach person who cannot provide me a tracking number and states they must call carrier and call me back. They call me back stating they don't know what happened but my casket never left Los Angeles and was still sitting in shipping. They did state they had to pay an extra couple hundred dollars to ship it Fed Ex air to ensure we receive it by 10:30 am on the 13th, which the service is 2pm. I hang up thinking, oh my god, what do I do if it doesn't show up and immediately start to stress over how we would have a service without the casket. I did not sleep all night scared of this horrible possibility I would be left without a casket. The morning of the 13th, I receive a call from overnight caskets around 9:30 am assuring me the casket will be delivered my 10:30. I hung up feeling relaxed thinking all my worries were now to be forgotten. Then my worst nightmare happened, I received a call from Palm Mortuary informing me that indeed my casket had arrived but unfortunately, it was damaged and they didn't feel it was damaged in shipping as the exterior box had no damage, therefore they shipped a damaged casket hoping no one would notice. They called mortuary after I called them demanding answers as to how this could possibly happen requesting pictures. They did informed me that Palm placed her body in the casket, they would not be able to replace the casket for the burial that is scheduled several days later due to the availability of the Veterans Cemetery. I then proceeded to ask them, "what would you like us to do, the service is today therefore I needed to use the casket" but they still state, now it is used. When I asked him twice, what would you do if this was his mothers service, he replies, I don't know what you want me to say and I said I want you to answer my question which he refuses. He then states they would normally ship a replacement casket but since we chose to use it, it is now considered used, therefore they cannot take it back. I tell them as I'm crying hysterically, I cannot deal with this today and we will speak tomorrow because I need to get ready for my mothers memorial service. I thought we had agreed to speak tomorrow but the manager had the audacity to call me 1/2 half hour prior to me leaving to inform me he received pictures from the funeral home and that he didn't feel the casket was damaged very much and you could barely see it. Are you kidding me? Not damaged much? I didn't buy a discounted scratch and dent clearance casket, I bought a brand new casket at full price that I expected to be in new condition. I was so furious, I then informed him that I was now getting ready for my mothers service and I would speak to him tomorrow as he already ruined my day enough. I will be contacting my credit card, a lawyer and the better business bureau. This company should not be in the funeral business or any type of business. I will update tomorrow after discussing this with Mark who claims to be the manager. At a time when you expect companies that are in the funeral business to have compassion, this company chooses greed. This is a mixed review for the following reasons: BAD: the casket did not arrive as promised, but GOOD: the company's communication was outstanding, they made every attempt to rectify the situation and when none could be found quickly refunded the purchase. I ordered a casket via the website on a Thursday with assurances that it would be delivered by 5PM the following day. I re-confirmed this schedule that afternoon through the company's online chat feature, which is excellent. Timing was critical, so OC promised to contact me the next morning with a specific delivery time. True to their word, I received a call early Friday morning. Unfortunately, it was to tell me that the casket had not even left the warehouse! The OC rep was appropriately apologetic and offered to have it delivered the following morning. Unfortunately, the funeral home would have been closed at that time, and with the viewing scheduled for Sunday I felt I had no choice but to cancel the order. I called them to request a refund and it was processed immediately while I was on the phone. Because of the lack of time, I was forced to purchase the casket directly from the funeral home, paying thousands more as a result. Would I order from them again? I don't think so. Every aspect of my dealing with them was stellar EXCEPT the actual receiving of the casket part. For other purchases, maybe a day or two delay in delivery is not a big deal but for caskets it's absolutely vital for several reasons, not the least of which is that the delay could cost you thousands of dollars. My mother passed away on November 12 and we planned her funeral for November 16 with a family visitation on November 15. My family and I got online and chose the Platinum Brush Lilac with Pink Velvet Interior casket and ordered it on the 13th. I was told that it would not ship until Monday night. I expressed my concern that it wouldn't be at the funeral home in time for the visitation on Tuesday night but Jeffery assured me that it should be there Tuesday morning. I started calling at 10am Tuesday morning --- the funeral home had not seen nor heard from the casket company but told me that they would call me as soon as it was delivered. I called Overnight Caskets to inquire as to where the casket was and they told me that the delivery van was picking it up "now" (10am) and would deliver it in an hour. At 11:30am I called asking about the casket --- still nothing.....the phone calls kept going until I finally received word at 3:00pm on Tuesday that the casket had "just arrived" at the funeral home.....the visitation was set for 6pm. It's frustrating that I had to handle this situation because I seemed to be the only one concerned. I ended up having to call the 3rd-party courier to inquire about the casket and was finally told at 2:10pm that it was "being loaded now" and would be delivered within the hour. I'm being totally honest when I say that my heart rate was at 110 bpm (normal is around 62-68 bpm). Long story short, the "approved courier" was "too busy" to pick up my mom's casket from the airport so they contracted a 3rd-party courier who was not on the airport's "approved" list. The 3rd-party courier had to make two trips out to the airport after the paperwork was redone so they were allowed to pick up the casket. The casket itself was absolutely beautiful and exactly what we had hoped it would be --- Mom would have loved it ---- but the heart attack that I almost had from the additional stress of this situation would make me extremely leery of going this route in the future. We did save a lot of money over what the funeral home charges for caskets, but if it doesn't arrive on time, what have you gained? Obviously, this was not "overnight" delivery AND we were charged an additional $300 to get it to DFW Airport. Again, the casket was beautiful, but this "3-star" review is being generous. My experience contacting Overnight Caskets was absolutely horrible. The day after my mother passed away, I contacted them since their prices and quality of caskets seemed reasonable. The customer service person who answered the phone was extremely condescending and cruel. At first I didn't catch on because I never would have thought that someone who works for a casket company would act in such a manner at a difficult time. Once I realized a potential sociopath was on the other end, I simply hung up. The person then proceeded to harass me by contacting me twice more. I COULD NOT believe it. The first time I answered and he basically started taunting me saying "It's not that bad. You know what's bad, the fact that I have to answer this phone". I hung up again and when he called back, did not answer. Very sick person. NOTE: The response to my review from management is ABSOLUTELY untrue. i have no motive for writing my review except to warn people that are already going through a difficult time of my horrible experience so they don't go through the same thing. Working with this company was so horrible, and terrible customer service. My family and I had placed an order for a casket, and the website let us place the order and took the money off our card. Then, I received a phone call letting me know that they were out of the casket that we had picked. They said that they had specific caskets that go to certain locations, but it never said that on the website. Then, I tried to pick a different casket and they also didn't have that one. Since it was past the time for shipping because of error on their part, we asked if they could over night it as a way of making things right. Adrianna, and her manager were both very rude and refused to offer any accommodations. They were also unsure that it could get there by Tuesday. I purchased a casket for my mother online since I had done this with my father 4 years earlier. I would have paid twice as much if I purchased one from the funeral home. I decided to try Overnight Caskets since they had better ratings in BBB than the previous vendor I had used for my father. The only negative thing out of the whole transaction was me receiving an email the next day that the casket was delivered. I called the customer service and was surprised an American voice picked up and answered my call. It was actually just shipped and the funeral home received it the following day. This experience was far from professional and almost seemed deceitful, I called the number on a wenesday morning to confirm for a delivery for thursday, the gentlemen on the phone reported the casket would arrive on time, so i ordered it through the website on wenesday night the tracker said the casket was awaiting fulfillment, by Thursday morning i received a call stating the casket was damaged and could not be delivered and that i would have to pick a different option , even though they stated it was ready to ship. They confirmed the had one in the same state as the funeral and guaranteed two day delivery even though their website says guaranteed overnight in the same state. Then the phone calls and excuses started coming in, with them blaming everybody but themselves. An overall excellent experience, with only one (relatively minor) complaint. First off, the casket was lovely, received on time, and over $2k cheaper than a very similar casket from the funeral home. I placed the order early Thursday morning, and by Friday afternoon, the casket had arrived at the funeral home. My only complaint is this: the company doesn't automatically update shipping status on their website. So, when I checked the status at 7PM California time on Thursday, it still showed "Awaiting pickup." Given that the casket needed to be in Illinois on Friday, this caused a moment of panic. I called, however, and they promptly picked up, explained that the site doesn't update automatically, and provided a tracking number and shipping information. Before placing the order I called to ask if the specific casket I want was in stock and if it would be delivered in time. The website had no indication that it was out of stock and that they wouldn't be able to deliver to certain areas of the US. The customer rep on the phone assured me the casket was in stock and will be delivered in time as long as I placed the order within the hour (I placed it within minutes of getting off the phone). 3 days later I get a call from the same rep saying the casket was out of stock and that they couldn't deliver to my area. I told her I spoke to her previously and that she assured me there would be no problem. Then the issue became that the casket was in stock, but they couldn't tell me whether it would be in delivered in time or not. She said that I could take the chance, but if it was delivered and did not come in in time I would only get a partial refund. The winter storm in TX started happening in the middle of all this, so I understood that now there would be issues with delivery, but the frustrating part was that I was given false information from the beginning and then again, and I had to call everyday to come up with solutions and get updates. I would be told I would receive a call back but hours would go by with no call, so I would decided to call again. I felt if I had the correct information from the beginning we could've came up with a solution and picked another casket right away and not have any issues. The most bothersome part of the experience was that the customer rep was super unempathetic, and I believe for someone who is working in the industry where people are needing caskets to bury their loved ones should be a little more understanding and helpful. In the end, I started communication with the manager and ended up getting another casket that my family didn't originally want to ensure that we would receive a casket in time. My husband found the casket for his mom at Overnight Caskets for over $1000 less than what they wanted at the funeral home. They were kind and understanding. The funeral was going to be the following weekend so they advised when they would ship it. And the shipping was free to Florida. My husband knew that the casket was important to his mom and it was beautiful! I don't think that those negative reviews are real. Thank you for helping us in our time of need. read more

I chose overnight caskets because they have very decent prices and free shipping. My dad died unexpectedly and without life insurance so we really needed to cut costs as much as possible. I bought the mahogany poplar cremation wooden casket and was content with my choice. The color is very pleasing in person and the inside is a crème color velvet. Unlike some cremation caskets this one was padded on the entire inside of the lid and not just the top half. There was a slight snag in my overnight shipping and it didn't arrive until the following day (ordered it on Tues it arrived Thurs) but it was entirely fed exs fault and so I in no way blame the company. Overall my experience with this company was good and I would recommend them in the future. read more

My 1st funeral (to pull off for my dad) was a steep learning curve! THANK YOU OVERNIGHT CASKETS! You made it so easy! The casket was BEAUTIFUL, it came on-time and could not be happier with your service. I read that one person was unhappy because they ordered and only learned late in the day the one they ordered was not available in their area. SIMPLE fix - Call instead of ordering on-line - They were wonderful, told me which warehouse was near my city and what caskets were available there.
