On 4-16-25, My son and I went into Nerces to sell scrap gold for $700 and a diamond ring $1200 . The lady counted back $1800. In all $100 dollar bills, shorting me $100 dollars. BEWARE. I just went into store looking for an engagement ring and to my surprise and disappoint my Tacorri wedding ring (sold to them a month ago) is in the glass case. Hello. I went to Nerces for gold jewelry repair. The females were very attentive and helped me out. When I picked up my gold chain repairs I was told they couldn't do anything about a necklace that was not Gold. I gave them a chain that was 14 ct gold and asked them to use that. Regardless of the pendant. Didn't get done because the pendant was not gold! I knew that yet I had a gold chain. Disappointed with this business. Maybe they pick and choose their customers. This a gem in Ventura. We first went into shop to get several watch batteries replaced, which they did quickly. One watch, a Michele was a problem and need additional repairs. WARNING!!! I took a beautiful unique mans wedding ring , I had for over 40 years ......waiting for the right situation to be able to use it into this business to be sized. I became engaged on Christmas Eve..... it was romantic and with his whole family there. Finally the treasured ring was going to find its rightful place. Several weeks after our engagement I showed him the ring!! He loved it but it was a little too small. So we looked for a place to have it sized..... the Business was investigated and then we took the ring on and asked about sizing. I was so nervous and asked about how it would be done and if there was any possibility of this changing the integrity or style of the ring. They assured me that this was a simple procedure and didn't effect the rings style or integrity. They explained they simply cut the back and add gold to the area to make the ring bigger.....No change in style or anything just bigger. Excited to begin our wedding preparations we left it there and checked that box off the to do list. A few days later we swung by to pick it up. One look at the Ring and I was Horrified!!!!! The ring literally looked like it had been stretched .... the ring was disfigures and parts towards the back side was thin!!!! I stated the they had ruined my ring.... I was SO upset .... I stated to them that the ring looked stretched. The son of the owner told me I was crazy and there was no possible way to "stretch" a ring. He told me in a demeaning tone ... "you are not okay in your head... you thinking is not right". He stated that he was offended by my suggestion and that it wasn't even physically possible. I told him the ring is not the same... it doesn't look the same the style has been altered. I stated to him I knew the ring very well... I had owned it for over 40 years. He told me If I didn't like it that was too bad .... that they had increased the size and that is what I had asked for. He continued to be hostile and disrespectful of my concerns and wouldn't listen to anything I had to say. I was mortified and so upset.... we took the ring to a gemologist and jeweler whom had a business in another town to inspect the ring. I explained the situation to him and he examined the ring. He stated that the ring had been hammered to stretch it out to the bigger size. There was a fattened side and hammer marks could still be seen when he looked at it with his eye piece. He said you can look it up on YouTube and see the process they used. I again was so frustrated and upset... They had ruined the ring .... called me crazy... lied to my face and acted in such a complete disregard for this property of mine and to me the person. The Jeweler states the only way to fix it was to melt it down and recreate it!!!!!!! I was crushed. I returned to Nerces Jewelry shop on Main in Ventura, and confronted them with the information. They were intensely hostile and the son was rude and accusatory ... saying I was lying and the expert I went to was a fraud. I told them they had ruined the ring and they had been untruthful. They were finally like well you asked for the ring to be sized up and now it is!!!!! I have never in my life been treated so disrespectfully in a store. They had no understanding of the trauma of what they had do....no respect or integrity for my property or my feelings. No ownership of their work or the lack of quality on their craft. I would warn all and everyone to not take your jewelry there or even purchase from them they are without integrity of any kind.... Absoultely horrible, avoid this place at all costs! I worked with this store to have an engagement ring custom designed, or so I was lead to believe. I was told they would make the setting I wanted in house (and I paid a lot up front). Instead they brought settings up from the LA Jewelry District that were not even close to what I had specified that I wanted. They did this to me twice, finally I was so tired of driving down there and dealing with them that I picked a stock setting out of their case so I could be done with this process (and they already had my money). The ring was poorly made and way overpriced. Diamonds were constandly falling out and it was always being repaired. I finally had something custom made elsewhere. The people at Nerces are dishonest, rude and do not have quality merchandise. They never apoligized for what they put me through or offered any honest solution. I came here to get my wedding ring appraised for an insurance policy and was impressed from the moment I walked in. The store is immaculate, professional staff, and honest. What more could you want with your fine jewelry? I was quoted $85 for the appraisal, they cleaned it complimentary and I was able to come back in two days for it. I made the mistake of listening to people who told me this place paid you a fair rate for gold. Not even close. An item I had that was worth $350 retail was something I'd expect to get at least $100 for. Instead, they offered me $30. That's an insult. I had an old wedding band set with good quality diamonds and was told it would fetch $110 max. This was the man's ring which had diamonds around it, the woman's diamond solitaire ring, and the woman's band which also had diamonds around it (not teeny ones either). I still had the original appraisal and thought, "I'm not giving this away for a pittance." I was told they'd just melt it down but we all know they'd take those diamonds out if that was the case or simply just re-sell it. Everyone is very polite there, but be warned. I sold them some of my old, broken gold necklaces because I don't have need for them anymore. They get one star for making that process easy and one star for being polite. But you might want to be forewarned if you're thinking of selling them any jewelry. read more

I'm in complete shock and disbelief that this business would offer me $9.40/gram for my gold when I can take it down the street to the Pawn Shop and they pay me $20/gram for 14K!!
