A very good computer repair company. When trying to boot up one of our Intrex Computers custom built desktop home PCs, the Gigabyte motherboard firmware displayed a "Boot failure detected" message and wouldn't complete the boot. I took a cell phone photo of the screen and printed the image. I then took the printed image to the NerdsToGo store and showed the image to technician Jeffrey. Clearly Jeffrey was/is very knowledgeable about PCs. After viewing the image, Jeffrey indicated that this problem sometimes occurs because of brief on/off cycles in the power grid (which do occur in Cary). He suggested that, in response to the "failure detected" message I simply press the ENTER key on the keyboard to allow the boot to proceed to completion. When I returned home this did indeed work (after I replaced our wireless keyboard with a wired keyboard). Thanks to Jeffrey's suggestion, I was able to fix the PC without having to bring it to the NerdsToGo store. Jeffrey did not charge me for his suggestion. Thank you Jeffrey for your help. I cannot say enough about how excellent Josh, from Nerds To Go in Cary was. He was highly professional, extremely knowledgeable, and was able to set up my new PC and also transfer my files over, and even set my all my apps which have to be reinstalled with their passwords when you change computers. He additionally installed two sticks of RAM for me in the new Hard drive and then checked to see if there were any issues. If I had attempted to do this myself, it would have taken me three days. I was charged double! I was led to believe the $150 diagnostic fee would go towards the fix, but they charged $150 for the diagnostic and another $150 for the fix. The fix was simply replacing the power unit, which involved some cable management, but $150 for that is high, and $300 total feels like highway robbery. They also offered to install Malwarebytes for $70, which I agreed to, thinking it was a one-time cost and that I would own it outright. They didn't say I was subscribing to something they would be monitoring. When I later found out it was administered by them and they wouldn't give me the password, I was shocked. Why would I want a local computer shop monitoring my computer? They did this without my permission, and I had to completely reset my computer and reinstall everything from scratch. It was a waste of $150 plus the $70, so they owe me $220. When I addressed these issues with them, they basically told me "too bad." They get 2 stars because some might ignore 1stars and the power supply does work and seems to be a good install. read more

I know just enough about computers to get me into trouble and Nerds to Go has been there to pull me out of the fire on more than one occasion. On updating my computer, Reynhardt offerred some good advice on better products available for the same price where I was trying to save money in the short run. Ultimately I am way better off with a faster rig than I was going to piece together without his expertise. On top of that, despite his workload looking like I wouldn't have my computer back by Monday, he was able to get me back up and running before the weekend which helped me out a great deal. This establishment USED to be a great place to bring in machines for a decent price for diagnostics and repair. Unfortunately as of late it is a shell of it's former self, customer service is lacking, communication is slow, and diagnostic fees and policy have gone in a direction that is noticeably worse than it was even a year ago. I would NOT recommend this place to fix your machine if you rely on it for anything important, as it will take too long and cost too much for them to even diagnose a simple issue. read more

These guys were quick, patient, and extremely honest. I brought my self built desktop into them to inspect what I did and to do some performance tests / spec checks on specific programs I use most frequently. They helped me conclude that I needed a better CPU and graphics card. You'd think they'd try and sell that service to me but they did not. They simply advised that I could most likely do this upgrade and save money. All in all, it costed me nothing to have the free inspection.
