Urban Fare - we meet again :) We were looking for some quick airport snacks before we headed to dinner and Urban Fare was perfect for the snackilicious occasion. I grabbed some "cheesy" paleo puffs and my husband grabbed a refreshing drink and we were set for the next traveling day. If you're needing some healthy sustenance for some Vancouver exploring - Urban Fare is a solid spot. I'm not necessarily wowed by the selection here, compared to other more niche natural grocery stores that I encountered on our recent British Columbia adventures, but I am always confident that I will find some fantastic healthy to-go item here. Ho Ho HUM HUM CAN ROLl a BoWLING BALL between Tables It's pedestrian ... as it tries too hard to be the Dean and Delucca of Vancouver but has no local heart and soul ... Food is so ho hum and is well stocked and displayed ... maybe because it's selling so slow??? Service is lethargic and sometimes no one at the cashier ... where can they go ?? Are they hiding in the walk in cooler thus explaining their frigid behaviour ???? Their black uniform are quasi facists like Mussolini's Black shirts and sure act like it with their robot stoic stance. At least the washrooms are well kept and you can dump and urinate on them this way too ... When you're in a bind and don't feel like cooking, this is the perfect spot to grab a hot meal, whether it's just for yourself or your entire family. They also offer catering options for parties, which is a great convenience. I really enjoy their freshly cut meats like turkey and roast beef. They have a variety of sides, but the highlights are the more rare options like the au gratin. There's a huge selection of vegetables and salads, and in another section of the store, you can find incredibly fresh sushi. Normally, I wouldn't recommend grocery store sushi, but Urban Fare does a bang up job. Their bakery is definitely worth mentioning, with a wide range of sweets from around the world. Be sure to try their jumbo macarons--they're filled with a ton of cream and far from bite-sized; nearly the length of your hand! They're so pretty but also truly out of this world yum. read more

This is an okay grocery store for the location. I come here for the convenience even though prices are generally $2-5 more per item compared to other stores. It's generally clean and not too busy. However, the hot food is terrible. The roast beef was the driest and the worst tasting meat I've ever had. I could not cut through it with a butter knife. The burgers tasted like they came from the freezer with all the flavours sucked out of them. The fries were terrible. The chicken pot pie was dry and salty. I'm not sure who's cooking back there and what the food is made of here. The bread selection is really lacking, too. read more

I often pop into Urban Fare to pick up things up between bigger grocery shops. They carry lots of high quality products and it's usually not too busy, so it's a pleasant shopping experience. They also have nice, clean bathrooms, which isn't always easy to find downtown! #ContestEntry read more

When I come into town, I tend to hit up a neighboring grocery store to pick up some waters, snacks and other little items. It's annoying to go and buy 1 bottle of water each time I am thirsty and drinking from the tap.....meh...not so much. This spot wasn't far from where I was staying, so we walked over and got some stuff. It's right at the corner of Bute & W. Cordova St in a nice little downtown neighborhood. Medium sized grocery store with prepared foods/deli area, bakery, all the dried goods you normally would get, drinks etc....you get what I mean. It's like a mix in between Whole Foods and Metropolitan Market with the prices and selections. Check out staff was friendly and nice. To lighten our load, we unloaded all our Canadian coins here and they gladly obliged to help us count it out. Glad we came by and will be back again. read more

I only come here for the breakfast usually , it is "ok" nothing too special, The cheaper breakfast price makes up for not having free coffee refills. Something is wrong today , order 3 eggs with my breakfast got 1,coffee was lukewarm and had them microwave it for 30 seconds . Asked for a new breakfast order because would have been cold by the time I got the eggs that were missed . New staff maybe? read more

First time here so getting my head around layout and operations we had breakfast a salmon omelette and eggs benny with a couple latte. I think the price was very good and the food was even better. I will gladly return. It is partly self serve ordering at counter but there is a nice sitting area with tables. Food was brought out but I was near counter . Staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a full super market attached. I just wish I would have found it at the beginning of my trip not the end . read more

Wow, what a great experience and great tip from the Marriot Pinnacle Hotel Concierge. She had suggested this as a breakfast consideration and we are glad we chose this place. Urban Fare was also on our way to our long walk around the city as we headed to Stanley Park. This is a combination cafe and grocery store. Kind of like Whole Foods, but better. Food quality excellent, grocery store experience excellent. The cafe has a lovely sunroom for eating your meal or you can choose the community table or bar side instead. Bar side overlooks the grocery store. If you're staying in the area you can't go wrong here, good food, quick ! read more

I had been my go-to neighbourhood grocery store in Coal Harbour until its recent renovation. It used to be a "boutique" grocery store where you can find finer items. The renovation took away the meat / deli counter and the pharmacy and left the store with haphazard flooring and glaring neon lights. It resembles a glorified 7-Eleven. Not only is its interior unappealing, wilted vegetables are commonly seen on shelves for sale to the public. See one of the photos posted. I have been going to the Alberni Street instead. read more

Went for breakfast 2 days in a row. Sooooo good. Portions were huge and delicious. I did get the same thing both days, just switched out the bacon and sausage. Jogging through Stanley Park, the Seawall and Coal Harbour. I dropped in out of curiosity of what an Urban Fare was. I got smacked in the face buy some sensational spice and seasonings. Entering the store was warm and friendly. To the left were steaming pots, a roast ready to be sliced and things bubbling and simmering. I like this Urban Fare. It's like walking into a favorite aunt's kitchen. Nice lady helped me out. Everything looked and smelled nice. I got the tri-colored roasted potatoes and ribs. The potatoes were fingerlings, red and purple buttery roasted sinful little carb blasts. The ribs were large meaty and tender. It was seasoned with some Vancouver magic and the price was affordable. About $7 USD. Sometimes fancy isn't always the best. I'm from a little island of Hawaii and it's taught me a lot of times the best places are small mom and pop shops or hole in the walls. I turned the corner to get napkins and forks and this little place wasn't little. I was standing on the 2nd floor of a grocery store. Awesomeness. I've never been to a two story grocery store so I said hi to a cop and headed downstairs to explore. Nice floral displays and gifts. Lovely fruits and veggies. I found me Swiss Chalet and Poutine packets to take back. It's like a Whole Foods but bigger and the prices seem cheaper. It's been awhile but now I'm remembering why I loved Canada so much. When I travel abroad, I always enjoy visiting grocery stores. Call it weird, but it helps to connect more with the locals. Urban Fare is comparable to Whole Foods in the US, but a whole lot cheaper. My friends and I came in for lunch because they have a cafeteria-style restaurant upstairs. Unlike Whole Foods, their rotisserie chickens are juicy and well seasoned. I ordered the beef pot pie, but was mistakenly given the chicken pot pie. Both are really good, but I'd recommend the chicken pot pie! For nearly $10 we each had an entree and two sides. This would have us double in the states because Whole Foods weighs the prepared foods. After lunch, we had to explore the grocery store. The produce did not look waxy and the colors were very vibrant. I could go on for days talking about their decadent desserts, cheeses, and snack food selections. The staff was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. A very nice clean supermarket with a wide variety of products.

The cashier scanned my points card but it did not show up on the receipt so we went back. We stood aside to let him finish the transaction with another customer first but he called us to go over to him while the customer was still there. It did not make us look good because the customer was still there bagging; he should finish the transaction with the customer first before telling us to go over there. Then he shouted at my sister about her mask while I tried to talk to him. He was rude; he tried to prevent me from talking to him by shouting at my sister because he felt embarrassed that we caught his mistake - that he did not scan my points card properly. If there really was a problem with my sister's mask, then he could have told us when we were there initially. He gave us back our points and put down our card and receipt on the counter without apologizing nor looking at us. He acted like as if we were bothering him while it was his mistake to start with. His service was unacceptable - especially as the operational manager (Skye A.). P.S. Another indication of his unprofessionalism was that his name tag was upside down. read more

It's like Whole Foods but priced lower and with convenient locations in downtown Vancouver. Breakfast is a great bargain. My wife would split an omelette vegetarian plate and add some fruit they sell for a solid and healthy breakfast. read more

I saw the in girl in the kitchen dropping the ham of my order on the floor and picking it up and placing it back. I complained and they replace my order but of course in a hurry they gave me almost uncooked food. They have a nice place to eat but the worst service when preparing meals at high prices. read more

I love urban fare they have a great hot foods cafeteria style selection area and very fresh fruit and vegetables grocery side, doesn't have the sushi and fresh pasta selection like davie st though. Still nice to be able to grab a snack and go down to the park and sit on the grass and enjoy the view. read more

They had a decent bagel, and decent juice and ok fruit available. The scrambled eggs to go were pretty crappy with very little flavor and tasting like they were made in a microwave oven, or regardless, they had the texture and flavor like a hard lump or brick of egg. Not light and scrambled like they shoukd be. You could get better food in a hospital. The breakfast potatoes were pretty sub par too. I think I'd rather eat McDonald's hash browns, and I dont like McDonald's at all. Stick to a pastry if you do go for breakfast. The Vancouver version of Whole Foods (i.e. insanely expensive). Coconut water, protein bars, etc. were at least 15% more expensive than Whole Foods in Toronto. Regardless, this place is located right across the street from the Marriott Pinnacle, so you can still save money so that you don't have to order from room service. I ordered from the salad bar a few times (it's not necessarily by weight, but you get to choose small, med. or large container for a set price and you get to choose what you want). I got Thai noodle salad and some chickpea or quinoa salad. Those were tasty. I also ordered a veggie burger (which is made from the Beyond Meat) and came with fries for $10.99, which is a reasonable price. I've had Beyond Meat burgers and this one didn't seem to taste as good. I think it might have been overcooked a bit. It didn't have the same texture I'm used to from this brand. A bit too soft in my opinion. However, the fries were fresh and crispy. IMO, if you are looking for a vegan burger in Vancouver, go to Meet in Gastown or Meet on Main. Verdict: Good for a quick bite, okay prices and also a nice outdoor seating area close to the ocean. read more

If you stay at the Marriott Pinnacle or the Four Season's on Hastings, it is only about a 10 minute stroll from both hotels. Their breakfast special is coffee and a muffin for $1.99 which several in our party enjoyed. I had a perfect cappuccino and Greek yogurt. There are other menu items that might intrigue you such as omelette's, eggs any way, bennies (wait, what is that? I'm from Texas, y'all) and lox and bagels. They do have burgers and other lunch and dinner items later in the day. Urban Fare is an upscale grocery offering wine, fruit, cheese, meats, chocolates, beer, vegetables, premade sushi and just about anything you might be craving. Went in this morning. I used to come here often for breakfast or a brunch and nothing has changed, which is good. This is a combination of a cafe and higher end supermarket on two levels. The supermarket at the lower level is nice not only for the items they carry, but also because it is never busy. The cafe and diner on the higher level has a nice view given how it is a glass house and where one can have anything from a mere cup of tea to a full-fledged meal. One orders and pays at the cash and when the meal is ready it is brought to you. The hot chocolate is nice and rich, but nothing out of this world. Fantastic location in Coal Harbour, one of my fav's b/c it's got that nice air and tranquility; sure it's been busy but it's calm compared to the Alberni one. It may be a bit busy when you first enter in as the deli's right there but do enjoy the seating area overlooking the shopping area. Always expect great, friendly customer service here. And relatively very easy to find metered street parking though they have a parkade too. read more

I love this location of Urban Fare when picking up high quality items to cook at home. They have their fancy breads and baked goods right next to it. They even have some gluten free goodies in one corner. Great for gluten intolerant friends who don't have to search through the whole store looking for products. Just keep in mind not to eat their cooked items. They're not terrible, but it's definitely slightly under average. I ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf and it was luke warm in the middle, slightly too sweet for my taste and not something I'd likely order again. The Shepherd's Pie wasn't too bad though. read more

My mom and I stayed at the Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel and happened to come across this gem randomly. We wanted to find a quick place to have breakfast as we had to early morning tours we had to catch. They have a coffee and muffin combination discount. Their mochas were also really good. They have a little sitting area where you can eat your food. Downstairs they have a bunch of groceries. Overall, decent food, nice service, we probably saved a bunch of money instead of eating breakfast at the hotel. Not sure how much the groceries are compared to other ones as we didnt buy anything there. read more

I came in to buy groceries for dinner, as anyone else would. Security guard wouldn't stop following me even when I asked him to. It was obvious I was the only one he was following. When I realized it, I stopped. He'd stop beside me. I'd go down an aisle, he'd follow me to the aisle, the same pattern continued. I said it made me feel uncomfortable and some other worker jumped in to defend him saying it's his job and he has to follow one person only (I doubt that). I get that it's his job to prevent theft. I haven't even picked anything up at this point. But I feel he shouldn't continue to keep following me, after asking an explaining discomfort, which is exactly what he did up until the store entrance. All I wanted was my own space and not to feel uncomfortably watched down every single aisle I go through. I don't think they tell you to pick and watch one person only. I think that was just an excuse and he knows he was just profiling me. The employee who defended his actions said if you don't want to be followed go to a grocery store without security. I can see what was attempted with that logic but I don't think that should be the solution to the issue. Very unhappy with the experience here. read more

I've been shopping there since it opened...I was thrilled at first but that has soon worn off.!.. The staff are lovely and friendly but not trained enough in certain areas... Prices are not showing on products some incorrectly priced too!! Mandarins (sold in bulk.)I love ..not now....they are cold soft and mushy including split ones after I got home and unpacked the mesh netting...shame.. Prices are what I'm after so I will shop at my shoppers drug mart where some favorite items are not as pricey... This place is awesome! It's super fancy and nicely laid out inside, with great selection for every category, and it's very cheap! The items are priced similar to Safeway so I would come here any day for the much better experience and wonderful decor. read more

Oatmeal that tastes great! We saw this store as we were walking to the park and one of our members ran over to get some snacks. The next morning I wanted to find a grocery to get something for breakfast and it shows up in Maps. As we looked at the other yelp reviews, I found it also has breakfast. We wanted something light, and saw they had oatmeal. And it was just as I like it - creamy. I asked for brown sugar instead of the usual topping and they were happy to oblige. The also have a good size grocery for the location in downtown Vancouver BC, Canada with bulk items along the back wall. If you in the area, stop in and check it out. read more

Who says you can't save money at Urban Fare? Admittedly, I've only been to this location once and to the Yaletown spot a few times, but I figured out a secret: some of their produce is priced the same way it is at it's not so glamorous cousin, Save On Foods. (Like on sale cucumbers and tomatoes!) But the real secret money saver - pick something from a shelf that sits all by itself. If it's got no tag below and no products on either side of it, chances are, they have no idea what to price it as. This happened with my favourite dish and hand soap for the kitchen - Meyer's. And imagine my surprise and delight when my two soaps came to less than $5! Those little pumps are sold for $6.50 in other places around town! As an aside, what is up with the checkout set up? The chaos of people butting into people trying to reach something on a shelf, other people not knowing where the line up started, and even more people not realizing that they were next in line for the check out. What is this, the bank? (Maybe they're giving loans to people just so they can buy some artisan priced groceries!) read more
