This grocery store was near where I was staying and I wanted to stop in to see if there were any snacks I wanted to buy. This is not what I assume a full size grocery store would be. It is a split opening. You either walk into IGA or Home Sense. The store is very small inside and almost a triangle/wedge shape, which made it difficult to navigate. The aisles are very narrow and very tall. I was overwhelmed by all the close proximity of things and people so basically cruised through then left. I had wanted to buy some chips but I am not sure if this particular store is expensive or that is just the price of things but I didn't find anything I wanted to buy. Lines were long and near the exit (which is already a long, narrow entrance). Upon entering the store there was a pop up tent out front of the store and someone was selling fresh fruits and vegetables. Not sure if they are an outside vendor or affiliated with the store. I assume that if I had gone to a store not in downtown it may have been larger, more spread out and less expensive. I assume that the aisles are tall and narrow as a space is at a premium and they are trying to fit the most amount of product in to cater to people. read more

Really nice store and great for the tourist that are around this area. Easy and affordable options for grab and go food and a nice hot Indian food station and good soups. I guess this review is really from a tourist point of view but they also seem to be a good grocery store that I know I would shop at if I lived here. read more

I feel this IGA location always carries fresh, good quality produce unlike the Urban Fare near me. Prices are fair for the downtown location, and the selection is quite good. There's underground parking as well which is convenient. The store is always kept clean, and the lineup is very efficient. The cashiers work fairly fast. read more

The aisles are tiny, so if you're in a wheelchair I can see this place might be difficult. Service is good. The food choices are amazing. There are times during a vacation or business trip that you're tired of eating out. That's when it's nice to go back to your Hotel room with maybe a sandwich or salad and and an adult beverage and just relax. Gayle and I were staying at the Vancouver Hilton on the same block and it was certainly convenient to pop in here and then continue on to the liquor store that was right next to the Hotel entrance. We were here the first time for some sort of sweet roll or cookie. IGA has a selection (all individually wrapped) that were just OK. If you're looking for this sort of thing, my advice would be to visit Tim Hortons (also on this block). Our second visit was for "Dinner", which consisted of a nice and heated chicken panini sandwich for me and salad for Gayle. Her choice fell a little short as the salad didn't include any dressing. My sandwich was fine, especially when washed down with a previously purchased Steamworks beer. On a recent business trip to Vancouver, I ended up being unwell while attending a conference. I was in need of some oranges, salad, and some other easy tidbits to snack on in my hotel. In Illinois, we used to have many IGA's in smaller towns, especially in the more rural parts of the state. They were always reliable little grocery stores with a good selection of your basic needs and many were put out of business by Walmart. Imagine my surprise to find this gem in a bustling Canadian city! There was a really nice selection of produce, as well as anything else you could need from the grocery store. The deli counter had a great selection and the person there was really charming and helpful and giving some recommendations on salads I have not heard of before. The store seemed very clean and efficiently organized for maximizing what can be offered in an urban grocery store. The store had some great chips. (I am a chip fanatic.) They had flavors that were new to me and it was a very clean store to visit. I saw some heated to go food and there was a butter chicken? I think that is what it was called. Anyway, the smell was so good and I was very tempted to purchase some. I had been eating a lot and really had no room to eat any more food. This chicken smelled like it was from a gourmet restaurant. ! should have gotten it....too late now. Remember to bring your reusable bag to carry out your purchase unless you want to pay a $0.10 fee for a plastic bag. I think this is a great idea and wish more stores in the US would follow Canada's lead. This small fee seems to be enough of an incentive to get people in Vancouver to bring their own bags which helps the environment greatly. read more

This is a convenient location for tourists staying in the area. Our hotel had a kitchenette so instead of eating out every meal, we picked up some breakfast items, produce, and snacks. The prices were higher but the produce seemed fresh. Aisles were a bit tight if there are a few people. There wasn't a lot of selection as store isn't the size of the typical grocery store. I bought a pack of four slices of cheesecake. The cashier flipped it over and put it on the counter after he scanned it. The slices were ruined inside the box. It did not make sense for him to do that to a customer's purchase. How would he feel if he were the customer? This was not the first time; it happened before with another cashier. When I'm on vacation and eating out all the time, I need to balance my diet with some healthy food. I decided to buy some food from this local grocer. This store was smaller than any I've been to in the US, but they were well stocked and had what I was looking for. Specifically, I bought some natural yogurt (that overly sugared stuff is not for me), some wheat bread (read: gym fuel), some apples, and some grapes. The store is well stocked and well organized. It's smaller then my old IGA on Burrard - lots smaller. The isles are very narrow. If you come here after work, prepare for huge line ups. That being said, the always seem to have enough cashiers, and when there is a line up, it does go rather quickly, The prices are fair. Not overly cheap, but not outrageous. They currently have a loyalty program where for each $10, you get a stamp. When you reach a certain amount of stamps, you receive cookware . I like that the store is open until midnight. It has a good variety of stock & staff Is friendly. I utilize this store often due to the fact its close to my place and the late night hours. read more

Ahhh, IGA. The memories. We had a great time browsing the aisles and found almost all we were looking for. Swiss chalet gravy packets, poutine gravy packets, fresh butter tarts, etc. Delicious. For a rather small market, my wife and I both agree that it has most of the essentials we'd ever want, including a great variety and what seems like very fresh vegetables. They also have great assortment of snacks and drinks too! Being so close to our hotel(Westin hotel), the was the obvious place to come. I also like how well organized everything is and clean! I've been to far too many markets that aren't well kept, dirty, and with staff that you just know hate their jobs. This place seemed different, I was welcomed at the door and had a cheerful cashier too. The location is super convenient if you are in the Stadium district downtown. It's organized and the check out is quite fast (especially when they see a line up and call of their cashiers available!). I find their produce and deli selection quite fresh and I believe that part of that reason is because there are many customers that go here so they have good usage and turnaround of their products. The things that made me give a 3 stars though is 1) I find on most things, their prices are higher than other retailers (not sure if it's just this location because it's downtown) and 2) this IGA is small so the selection of products is a little slimmer. Overall though, convenience trumps price when it comes to me picking up groceries on the way home. I'm at least happy that I can rely on getting fresh food while I'm there and to add, I love the fact that they have fresh berries from farms on sale out front during the summer months. read more

It has most things that you are looking for at this IGA, assuming you live in the hood. Yes its made for residence of the condo building. Its very clean and spacious. Located right under Home Sense. I needed some newspaper for moving out and I thought the newspapers in front of the store is free since I haven't bought newspapers here. I took 5 of them and had my AirPods in my ears and was leaving and didn't hear anybody's sound. The security came and took all of them from my hand and looked at me like I was a thief I told them I didn't know that I should pay and I paid for all of them. He had no right to take it from my hand and behave like that to an international student who is new here. He could tap my shoulder. I called the manager after that and I explained to him that I'm anxious and didn't mean to cause any troubles and the security behaviour wasn't right, he didn't answer me in a proper way and hung up. The only reason I shop here is because it's the closest grocery to where I live. Availability of produce is pathetic. Today needed herbs, thyme rosemary. Pretty basic, but they didn't have it. Another time jalepeno peppers, didn't have it. Another time iceberg lettuce, didn't have it! Bag spinach...didn't have it? WTF? Always disappointing in the produce department. Just wanted a frying chicken one time, didn't have it. Italian sausage, didn't have it. Basic stuff you expect to be available and they fail? Have no idea what is up with that. read more

My best friend and I come to this location before a concert to get something reasonably quick and healthy from either the produce or deli section. I find that the selection is decent for what it is, prices are okay. It's open late which is a benefit for the both of us. It is smaller than other IGA's but it still carries what we need.
