Let me tell you this: with Tashkent right up the block, and a whole bunch of other Russian food stores across Brighton Beach, it would be wise of the management to fire the rude so-called "security guard" who first of all looks like he just stepped out of Rikers Island, and second has no manners or people skills. I spent over $150 every few days in this store although the quality has gone down drastically, but yesterday I vowed to not spend another dollar in this god-forsaken-hell-hole. THE WORST TREATMENT from the lowest of people aka NetCost security staff. Perhaps when this place will finally lose all their customers, perhaps then they will consider hiring staff with people skills. Oh and by the way, some English would be helpful too. Stay away, their food sucks and prices are no better than Tashkent. Save your nervous system and you'll save money too by walking past this dump and straight to Tashkent! read more

Huge lines but Gourmanoff is my go-to supermarket for all my groceries ! stumbled upon this gem of a supermarket tucked into the vicinity of a theater and boy, does it not disappoint ; large selection of organic fruits and veggies + sooo many different types of meats, dairy, breads, birthday cakes, frozen goods, buckwheat to choose from, ahh I feel like a little kid every week when I walk in here ; the only downside is that everyone speaks Russian in here so you might have to ask a younger customer to translate the writing on the packing for you occasionally but that's not a problem. read more

Dear all, I wanted to share my recent experience (07/08/2018). I purchased salads and some meat koteletts from the prepared food/salad bar. Everything appeared to look great. However, after going to the beach and trying those salads I was sick the whole night and also on Sunday (today). Food poisoning, very bad!!!! I may have to visit a doctor tomorrow because I have fever. So Stay AWAY from those salads!!!! I don't know if they ever get inspected for quality....... If you have heard of net cost then this is exactly what this should be called. Don't be fooled by their fancy new name of gurmanoff. The decor of this place is absolutely stunning and all of the presentation of the food they sell is out of this world. The reason they get a three star review is due to their lack of consistency. It's always a hit or miss with the food that I get and unfortunately I've even gotten food poisoning from them due to their lack of unsanitary procedures of cutting meat on wooden boards. The prices are pretty pricey but that makes up for the decor and staff of course. Honestly the food is nothing special and it's only great for a quick grab and go when you have absolutely nothing in your fridge or need to impress your grandparents for a quick Russian meal. read more

This is basically a Dean & Delucas wanna-be, where you can find all the high end, or items pretending to be high end that your heart desires. If you're hosting an upscale cheese-tasting party, this is the place for you. If you need some groceries for the family, do yourself a favor and go a few blocks down. Now as to this establishment it looked like what you would experience in a whole foods. I ordered food from here and its was just plain bad. The meat was fatty and cold the ribs hardly had any meet on it and the chicken "kabob" were just fatty pieces of chicken. The kharacho soup had just fat floating in it. No meat. And was cold as well. read more

If you like Soviet Bread Lines, shop at Gourmanoff This is the second time I've experienced being treated like dirt by the folks at Gourmanoff, so I decided to write my experience this time. I live at the Oceana Condos across the street and was originally pleased to see this premium supermarket come into the neighborhood and planned to be a loyal customer. I saw the glass chandeliers, the fancy buffet, and the ornamental baked goods section and decided that even if I had to pay a little more for products here, it would be worth it for the shopping experience and for the service. Unfortunately, customer service here has been so indifferent -- often even rude -- that I'm forced to conclude that they don't want business from me or from any of my friends in the neighborhood. Today's episode is what caused me to write this. I was waiting in a very long line, since only half the normal cashiers were working. I had some frozen products that were defrosting as I waited with my young baby who was with me in a stroller, so I politely asked one of the staff members, whose name tag said Liana, if another cashier could be opened for all of us waiting in line, and so my frozen food wouldn't defrost. She looked at me with disgust and said that food doesn't melt in 10 minutes. I thought I had misunderstood her, so I asked for clarification, and she basically told me to leave her alone. I told that all she had to do was apologize and say there were not enough cashiers. She just responded ""go away." I was so surprised and upset that I went to the Manager, Lena. She seemed to listen patiently enough to me and apologized, but didn't really give me the impression that she found the attitude of the person to be unacceptable, or that she was going to do anything about it. Another little trick that Gourmanoff pulls that I thought I'd mention is that they put merchandise on "sale" and then you go to the counter and pay and the price is totally different. It's clearly a technique that they use, in hopes that customers don't notice, so always double check prices. I grew up in the Soviet Union, so I'm not be overly sensitive to bad customer service. But in this case, I believe Gourmanoff is trying to falsely portray itself as the "premium supermarket" of the neighborhood with all the fancy embellishments, but treating it's customers like poor Soviet peasants in bread lines. I wrote a great review when they first opened, but I have to revise it and warn people. I had high hopes for a Brighton Beach store that would be on par with other New York/Brooklyn ones. I live close by, so up until several months ago I shopped here three or four times a week--so I'm not the gee-whiz one-time visitor who obviously remembers the place as being more impressive than it is. First, the staff and management of this store would be advised to learn the standard basics of customer service. People have referred to this as like a Whole Foods. Excuse me? Quality of food aside, the universally grumpy and nonresponsive staff and management (who also evidently couldn't care less) could learn a lot from any basic grocery chain customer service, but it's laughable to compare them to Whole Foods. And people say they like the decor, to me it looks and smells dirty in the food service areas. As for products, the organic produce always looks small and old--better choices up or down the street. The packaged food is mostly only in imported brands, and I soon found they aren't good ones; they taste like cheap generic. Once I started to limit the types of things I would buy here, I still got bread at the bakery--it's baked, right? until I saw a worker picking his nose ferociously with his latex-gloved hand, then grab a loaf and slice it for a customer. The final straw was when I found a hair--not mine--baked into the bread. I would never buy from their buffet, but I get grossed out just walking by, because usually there's someone picking a taste or free food with their fingers or sniffing too closely while people behind the hot food counter nearby never seem to see them to shoo them away. The deli meats I've had on several occasions taste old the first day. Staff is the worst I have ever seen in a supermarket; I don't see many who take pride in their work as in other markets. Example: One time I saw someone reach for a bottle on an overfilled shelf of beer (nothing is in 6-packs, what's with that?) and a bottle crashed to the floor--it wasn't really his own fault, the way things were crowded in. He told the 2 or 3 people at the nearby deli counter, who absolutely would have seen and heard the crash, but they just turned away. When the guy saw nobody was doing anything, he walked away. I then walked up to the deli and explained what happened, that they needed cleanup for customer safety. Someone shrugged and turned around and the rest looked away. And in fact, I saw this same thing happen in the condiments section, near the deli, with the same reaction. The staff seem to purposefully work really slowly. Oh, and I've gotten really sick from their eggs. I should have known: they leave whole pallets of eggs out in the middle of the floor--more than they could sell in a week or month, much less while still cold--that's against health regulations. I should have known, when I got sick from their eggs, that if they do it in the middle of the store, they also do it behind the store. Yuk. And when I've bought a gallon of milk from here it tastes fresh for only 3 days, long before expiration. So it's been sitting on a pallet somewhere in the back? So when I see their vats of food items, I'm grossed out by how unsanitary they must be. I've also had small things like chocolate and expensive items *not packed* after I paid. At first I assumed it was my mistake, until it happened 3 times, probably with different cashiers, the items always showing up on my receipt. People have complained about the prices; I don't care, I just want a fresh, clean place with responsive customer service. Like, the lowest basics you'd expect of a grocery store. You can tell I'm not the only one: one day I went in to find one thing and left, the market looked deserted but no one could help me. So I went to my now-favorite Tashkent (sp?) market a few doors down, the new, big, clean halal market and deli, and there were several lines down the length of the store--and I'm not the only one who's happy to wait in line in that store, where staff is friendly and helpful. Gourmanoff's has a coffee shop next door. I went in only once, to sit and have a coffee. I soon noticed that the whole place had an overpowering bad smell to it--like a flooded basement, with that slightly sewagy smell you get in New Orleans and Venice--though it was years after Sandy and the weather had been nice. I couldn't stay, it was the opposite of an environment you'd want to eat or drink in. read more

Every time I shop here, there is problem. 6 out of 10 times the cottage cheese has fungus on it when I open it. I was told "maybe you keep your groceries in the car for a few days" when approached the groceries manager for exchange. The sale prices are marked very misleading, for example, Domino sugar has a sign over it :'$2.29', but at the register the price comes up as $2.99, because "this is the price for another brand of sugar" as I was told by the section manager. Taster's Choice coffee supposed to be $11.99 on sale, as the big sign above it says. At the register they charge you $12.99 unless you specifically point to their mistake. Buying cold cuts, such as prosciutto or other expensive cuts - they use a lot of paper in between the layers of meats and it comes up that you pay for about 30% of paper by weight. Zabar's of Brighton Beach - try their chuck beef something at the counter where they sell hot food. Price is astronomical but if you get couple of slices that should not be so bad and you get a little piece of heaven on the plate. I like the place for their salmon - best and that beef. Also for some hard to find items in Brooklyn like Meyer's lemons for example or some high quality Russian and Italian chocolate bars. read more

I live in Howard County Md... On the spur of the moment, I went to Brighton Beach, NY with my husband. Gourmanoff is the best supermarket that i have ever visited. Gourmanoff food is fresher than the food at Wagmens, Harris Teeter and Whole Food Market, so I am praying that the owners will open a store in Howard County MD. The Caviar, chocolate, smoked meat and fish, soup, sandwiches, breakfast bar (and more)......is delicious. This store is absolute magnificent read more

I like to shop in Gurmanoff .very convenient for me. But unfortunately the shelves where the stored goods dirty. a thick layer of dust lying on the couch with GODIVA inscription. I drew attention to several weeks in a row of cashiers at it and ask to tell the manager to clean the shelves. No any reaction ,dust still hanging .... read more

This place is like an Russian/Ukrainian whole foods. It's hidden in the old theater on Brighton but there's a huge selection. They also serve hot and cold foods. I got a sunshine roll, not bad for super market quality. Prices are fair, about the same or a little less than whole food prices. read more

It appears that Gourmanoff will be closing and it's brother supermarket of a lower level, Net Cost will be coming in. I have not been a fan of Gourmanoff since it's opening though I have been in and out of there many times and I have never been impressed. However, some items when on sale are a very good buy and I found the fresh produce to be of nice quality. read more

I really like this supermarket. Everything looks fresh and tasty. We've bought fresh ingredients and prepared food. We haven't been disappointed. The only con (which is not their fault) is the lack of parking in the area. I did notice that they have a pick-up (and delivery) option for a limited number of items. Perhaps I will try that next time. Whole Foods's giant parking lot in Brooklyn is the only reason we still go there. I prefer going here. read more

Their different soups are delicious and homemade. They have a good assortment of freshly cut fruits. Assorted Russian foods, as well as many American selections can be found along their self-serve hot bar and they even have a sushi bar where the chef can make the sushi fresh in front of you if you choose. The buffet food tends to be pricey because it's sold by weight, so pay attention to the prices as you order the buffet stuff that is served in the employee serve section only. read more

Ok so the food looks awesome until you try it.. I purchased chicken kebobs, wow what a waste they tasted like rubber and I'm assuming that's because they just keep reheating everything over and over again.. Their kani salad can get it!!! Other than that I also purchased smoked turkey from them it was not fresh everything was slimey it was kind of gross and more expensive than any other store. On May 18, 2016 purchased cold beets soup and eggplants salad. Soup was with dirt which probably came from unwashed dill. Eggplants salad was a disaster, so sour and so afresh. I called to the store and they told me to bring food back with receipt. I did not find receipt, probably put it in garbage. And food that I bought this day in Gourmanoff went to garbage too. Nicely decorated but beware of low quality salads and hot meals in prepared foods department. We tried about 10 items and more than half had awful taste - heavy, greasy and very salty, could not eat. One salad was OK, so I took it second time but it turned to be completely sour and musty. When I complained and asked for reimbursement, manager refused to give me money back and said I had to immediately come back to the store on the same day I bought it (who would drive back because of a salad jar??) The respectful store like Shop Rite would process a return without saying a word. This manager did not seem to care about customer satisfaction. Another problem is that cashiers make mistakes all the time charging you more than items cost. Some people do not pay attention, but I usually look at the screen so I see what they charge. Last time they tried to charge me $8.99 per pound for candy which costs $2.99. And all 4 or 5 times I shopped there, I have caught similar mistakes. People are so impressed by a nice store design that they do not pay attention to the bad quality and attitude. read more
