She captured the look I wanted, used the right makeup for my oily / sweaty face, got my hair exactly as I envisioned, and made the time go by super quickly with her easy chatter--perfection! I went to a wedding last Saturday, and felt like going glam, so I went on here to check out my options. Jha was listed up top with 5 stars so I messaged her and she messaged me back pretty quickly. I sent her back my images and she made recommendations based on my dress and ideas. I showed up and it was like meeting with an old friend. I was a little nervous since I've gotten makeup done before and I either 1) look completely off and plastic-y or 2) my face is 10x lighter than my body. She assuaged my fears immediately! Totally professional and knowledgable. And that makeup STAYED: makeup was done around 5PM Saturday, wedding ended at 1am (with dancing, drinking and all). I took out my hair--which was still on point by end of night--but kept makeup on because I loved it THAT much (LOL). In the morning, still great. Ran errands, took a two-hour nap in the afternoon, and actually made people go out to dinner with me because my makeup was still awesome and wanted one more outing with it. hahaha. Yes, as my sister would say I'm "super extra." I'll upload one picture of me from start of Saturday night, and then over 24 hours later Sunday night. You'll understand. Just book her! P.S. Cherry Le did my makeup for a television premiere last week. It was my first time getting my makeup…read moredone since my wedding almost twelve years ago, and Cherry made this middle-aged mom feel glamorous and red carpet ready. I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. Thanks to Cherry, I looked as good as my genes would allow. If you're looking for a professional makeup artist in New York City, I'd highly recommend Beauty by Cherry Le. I came in very excited for my appointment and was expecting a full highlight/balayage…read moretransformation. Before booking, I sent photos of my current hair, a previous photo showing my balayage, and inspiration photos from Alysa's own page showing the dimensional, blended color I liked. I also spoke with someone at the salon beforehand and made sure my information was passed along to Alysa. I explained that I wanted to keep my hair on the lighter side since my current balayage was already more blonde. I was looking for warm caramel/honey tones, brighter face-framing pieces, soft ribbon highlights, dimension, and a natural blended finish. During my appointment, Alysa asked what I wanted, and I specifically told her in person that I wanted the color brought closer to the root with a blended transition. Unfortunately, the final result did not match the vision we discussed or the inspiration I provided. The back and crown area remained very dark, and the result felt more like a shadow root and refresh of my previous color rather than the full highlight transformation I was expecting. It appears that the new growth was mainly shadowed and the existing lighter pieces were re-lightened instead of creating the brighter, dimensional look I requested. The color also turned out more brassy than I expected. I felt the toning process was rushed. It seemed like the toner was applied and rinsed out very quickly rather than being left on long enough to properly neutralize the brassiness and achieve the softer tone I was looking for. I was also disappointed with the finishing of my hair. After a color service at this price point, I expected a polished salon finish, but my hair was left puffy, rough, and not styled the way I expected. It felt like there was still product left in my hair, and I had to go home and fix it myself. The blowout fee was an additional $80, which made this even more disappointing. My previous stylist was very detail-oriented and always took her time. Even though she relocated far away, I always left her salon feeling confident, with my hair fully styled, soft, and beautiful. I have never left a salon feeling like the stylist was rushing through the service. I also did not appreciate the way Alysa discussed my hair being "not prepped" while speaking with another stylist in front of me. I was never sent preparation instructions or an email explaining that my hair needed to be prepped in a specific way before my appointment. I have never heard of needing my hair "prepped" in that way, especially since many salons actually recommend coming in with hair that has not been freshly washed before a color service. If there were concerns, I would have appreciated being informed directly and professionally rather than hearing the conversation while it was being discussed with another stylist. I also feel I was overcharged for the service I received. I paid for what I understood to be a full highlight, but the final result appears more like a partial highlight with a shadow root and a refresh of my existing color. The outcome did not reflect the level of service or transformation I expected for the price I paid. The most disappointing part is that after spending this much money, my friends and coworkers did not even notice that I had my hair done because the overall appearance looked so similar to my previous color. I was expecting a noticeable, brighter transformation, and instead I left feeling like the change was minimal and not worth the time, cost, or effort. The service was $560, and I still left a $125 tip because I appreciated the stylist's time and effort. However, I was disappointed because the final result did not match what I requested. I now have to find another salon to correct the color because my crown area is still mostly dark, which is not what I wanted. Overall, this experience felt like a waste of time and money. I paid the same price at other salons and left with hair that was beautiful, soft, fully styled, and exactly what I asked for. Unfortunately, I would not return or recommend this salon. I would advise others to be cautious and think twice before booking, especially if you are looking for a detailed color transformation and a stylist who truly takes the time to understand your vision. A stylist who takes pride in their work should not let a client leave feeling like they received a partially completed service after paying for a premium color service and blowout.

When I politely declined, they called me rude while hanging up on me. Unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. If this is how they handle simple customer service, I can't imagine trusting them with actual services. Unorganized, rude, and not worth the stress.

When I came across Tatiana's Instagram page, she instantly became my top HMU choice. I even fell in love with one of the hairstyles that she posted, and I was dying to have it for my wedding reception. Sadly, her services were pricier than I had hoped. After pondering about it for a bit, I decided that it is an investment and I would have regrets if I didn't choose Tatiana. So I quickly booked her and even scheduled a HMU trial too. Through our online communications, I discovered Tatiana was very responsive, detailed, straightforward, and professional. You won't believe how many HMU artists lack some of these traits. When we met for the first time at my HMU trial in her Ktown studio, I was surprised by how funny and friendly she is in person. The trial went really well, and my decision to go with her was further validated. I liked that she constantly made sure I was happy with what she was doing instead of waiting until she was done with everything to check in with me. She was very receptive to feedback and made corrections swiftly. Whenever she had a better idea, she made it known gently. For example, she used cluster lashes on me so they're a lot more comfortable than the usual falsies. The communication didn't stop there though. After the trial, she emailed me asking for additional feedback and to see how the HMU look held up after I left her studio. I decided to ask her to change the style of my bangs and make the updo higher. Though we didn't get to test out these new asks first, she implemented the changes really well. We both loved the wedding day look more than the trial. Aside from great communication, she is also very punctual. Tatiana and her partner arrived early at my hotel even though it was already an early start. The only unfortunate event was that both my mom and sister-in-law weren't happy with their hairstyles, which were done by Tatiana's partner. I think this could've easily been solved if they listened and prepared inspo pictures in advance, so I don't think Tatiana's team is to blame. My makeup stayed pretty intact throughout my wedding reception, but a piece of hair did get loose. It wasn't a big deal though.
