I normally go to Manhattan or Brookkyn for my silk press, simply because I am a loyal customer to those salons. But the trip to get to Midtown or Brooklyn is grueling. I found Love Lane when searching for a closer alternative. Downtown is 3 miles away and the walk is very pleasant; it is a treat by itself. Add to that, the pleasant environment of the salon and the cute area it is situated. Plus, they did a very good job in taming my unruly curls into a sleek undamaged mane. They offer you drinks. (Not booze), but nice iced sparkling flavored water. It grounds you into a zen sate of mind. The perm straightening does not smell of chemicals. You don't get burning eyes during the process. The perm looks better and better as the days go on. Not sure what brand they are using. I remember when the keratin perm first began, the stink of the ammonia and the fumes would burn nostrils and eyes. Love lane has become my regular spot. I must be a very boring customer for them, because I only go there for the silk press and regular trims to the ends. Nonetheless the treat me well. read more

Best salon in Jersey City! The salon itself is stunning but the reason I keep coming back is the amazing work Alyssa does. Whether we do blonde or red, the color turns out amazing each time and Alyssa achieves exactly what I wanted without me even knowing what exactly what it was! Alyssa takes her time getting the color just right and does not rush the blow dry or styling either. She also remembers the smallest details of conversations we have had in the past which makes for such a personal experience. Could not recommend Love Lane and Alyssa enough! So let me start off w the good - clean, brightly lit, nice decor. The bad - I came in to get my bleached blonde hair (I have been going blonde for years and it took me literally YEARS to get to the light level of blonde I had before I came here in a way that wasn't damaging) touched up and the roots done by a junior stylist. I could tell the stylist was pretty new and inexperienced just by the way he was sectioning off and combing my hair. Just did not have an experienced or confident hand in the way he did things. I was just so initially put off by his seeming lack of knowledge but continued to sit there anyway, because I was already there and had taken half a vacation day just to treat myself. Well, of course the stylist put essentially dark dark brown hair "glaze" even though I ASKED HIM NOT TO , him thinking I lift red/brassy even THOUGH My hair has already been lifted over REPEATED bleaching sessions over years so it's not a problem for me that needs to be corrected - and of course it turned my blonde hair that took me FOREVER to lighten, into a weird hodgepodge of dark brown shades, my natural roots that he didn't even get to, and a couple tiger stripes of yellow. What an absolute waste of time and money. Last thing - two of the other stylists here had a tiff / verbal spat while I was in the shampoo chair -- don't do this in front of customers; it's so awkward!! read more

LoveLane Salon is the best around! Not only are the stylists extremely friendly and welcoming but the esthetic and ambiance is spot on! They are taking all the precautions and using the CDC guidelines as a bible for how to keep customers and their staff safe and healthy. Contactless checkin, health screening, temperature check, salon limited to the person getting the service and the stylists, blocked out times for services to not over crowd the salon or the hallway outside (which has hand sanitizer and chairs that are 6 feet apart for waiting if you arrive early), everyone entering has to wear a mask, stylists are wearing masks and they have shield dividers between the chair stations and the hair washing stations, the experience was made extremely comfortable for me and get ride of any anxiety I had regarding getting a service performed during Covid. My stylists or magician I call her, Crystal is absolutely amazing and a 5 out of 5 star rating doesn't come close to an appropriate rating because she is beyond amazing! I absolutely loved my experience with Crystal! I was really nervous to have a new person to cut my hair because I was glued to my last one, but got recommendations for this salon and for Crystal. Before I start the review on my hair, Love Lane salon took proper precautions due to COVID-19. I needed to wait outside and sanitize my hands. I checked in for my appointment and was sent a link to fill out a small survey. Once I submitted it, I was allowed inside to have my 5 minutes consultation with my stylist wearing my mask the entire time. She sat me down and asked me exactly what I was looking for. She encouraged me to be really bold as I had really long hair. I was looking for a small change. Nothing too crazy and it was exactly what I got. I allowed her to cut 4 maybe 5 inches off of my hair and added layers. I felt so much lighter. It felt quick and seamless. I usually get anxiety when I get haircuts but not this time. It was definitely a great experience for me. I wish I could post a picture but I am definitely not picture ready! But this place is definitely getting 5 starts from me! This is for the new Grove St. location. The location is great (across from Dullboy) and the salon is new, bright, and trendy looking; however, I felt the experience was a bit off from the beginning. First, there isn't a seating area or proper stand to check-in customers. You check yourself in on an iPad, so you don't really get much of a warm welcome. When I arrived, some staff seemed to be sitting around on their phones, paying little attention to the customers. Also, I was the only person in the salon wearing a mask (patrons and stylists), and it might have been nice if their mask protocols were clearly addressed up front and/or if my stylist asked if I'd be more comfortable with them wearing one while working with me. My colorist was very nice and personable. She consulted me on options, was attentive, and did a good job on the color. My stylist seemed skilled and ultimately did a pretty good haircut and style, but did not talk to me the entire time. Not a single word other than to ask me what kind of cut I wanted at the beginning. It was a bit awkward to sit there for 30 minutes in complete silence and doesn't really make you feel welcomed, or that your business is valued. I found the staff very casual, as if they were a bunch of friends hanging out in someone's living room. They talked among themselves, didn't greet customers, and one stylist complained multiple times and even directly to my stylist about annoying things she had to do or tidy up in the salon. Overall, the cut and color were pretty good, but the overall experience was underwhelming. For the price of services, which is consistent with high-end salons, I'd expect better customer service and professionalism. read more

I had my hair colored and cut here a few times while I lived in the area, and I felt that the staff was unfriendly on those occasions. Just prior to Covid, my mom was attempting to get a substantial gift certificate to Love Lane in order to cover the cost of color and styling for my cousin's wedding party. The woman who answered the phone said that she would need to come get gift certificate in person. My mom was sick with cancer and unable to drive to salon at the time to pick up gift certificate, so I told her to forget it, and let's spend the money elsewhere instead. Love, Love Lane! I was referred to this salon while I was living out of state and made an appointment as soon as I moved back to NJ. Crystal was the first stylist I went to and she taught me how to care for my wavy/curly hair. She also gave me a haircut that made sense for my length and texture. Recently, Karina is the stylist I've been going to and like Crystal, she's given me awesome haircuts that work when my hair is air dried or styled. Alyssa has always done my color at Love Lane and she just knows exactly what to do. I always receive so many compliments on my color, and it grows out perfectly---only have my hair hilighted twice a year and I do maintenance glosses in between. Kristina did my hair (and some of my bridesmaids) for my wedding, and Eden styled the rest of my bridesmaids. Everyone looked amazing, and one of my bridesmaids was able to recycle her bridesmaid hairstyle the next day for another event (and it still looked amazing the next day). They created the perfect wedding hairstyles for my girls that matched their personalities perfectly and it was a nice break from the bridesmaid hairstyles you see on your Instagram feed. I cannot recommend love lane enough. I always find the staff friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is laid back and comfortable.
