I called "Networks" to retrieve the data from my 2016 Apple Mac book Pro 15" hard drive (2 terabytes). Kevin worked for 7 days getting ALL my data off the hard drive. To keep the cost down; I brought him two external hard drives that I had at home and he transfer all the data to both hard drives. I'm very happy Kevin was able to retrieve all my data! Update: They came to install my TVs, messed it up (resulting in the TV hanging by the bracket precariously), then charged me to fix it. I then called them for help with my wifi, and my call wasn't returned. I guess it's hit or miss. Wow! Rolled the dice by googling! They came and reconfigured my wireless and hardwired networks. Didn't churn me on the time. Worked diligently, problem solved (things went wrong, I have old stuff). Didn't try to upsell me. I needed a new laptop charger and called these guys near closing time. They worked with me to find what I needed over the phone, gave me a price, and said they'd wait for me to drive over. Everyone in the office was extraordinarily welcoming. It turns out that the charger I thought I needed wasn't what they had, but they found another that worked just as well and adjusted the price (downwards) accordingly without question. They plugged in my laptop and waited for it to gain significant charge before deeming the charger a match. I appreciate their friendliness, honesty, and flexibility. Thank you! read more

I brought two phones in for a vital court case involving my 7 month old son. Unfortunately it is life and death for him and I explained that to Kevin and Steve. I also mentioned that I know phones may not be their most profitable job so I would prefer to pay them whatever their ordinary margins are to make sure that they would be able to give me the same priority as everyone else. I was told 4 days... .. . 3 weeks later I finally got my phones back. They didn't extract all the information and instead chose to focus on one conversation (I did mention that one conversation via text was of particular importance but they were supposed to be getting everything). This particular conversation was not the one I asked for. Also during the 3 weeks, I would call and would be promised on at least a dozen occasions (not exaggerating) that someone would call me back, as they were busy, to update me on the job. No one ever would and I'd have to hunt down people by calling in constantly to get a response as to status. That response was always "the phones are hooked into the machine right now", "my guy isn't here", or "I've been swamped". I got the feeling I wasn't a cash cow for them and anything they could make more money on took priority. Several times I was told the people working on my job had left to work on some other job instead of focusing on mine and finishing it. Greed seams to be king. After everything was said and done, I asked Steve why it took so long and even after all that why the information they pulled wasn't what I filled into the paperwork they had me do when I first came in. The same information I had asked for on 2 other separate occasions (Kevin told me twice when I hunted them down that they were almost done pulling x,y, and z and I corrected him that it was the wrong conversation/number twice). Steve kept giving me excuses saying they were making progress or they can't pull everything. The truth is, I personally did a more thorough recovery on the phones when I got it back from them using free widely used software. The only thing they did do that I couldn't was pull one conversation in detail and it wasn't the right one. I know for a fact Steve (the owner) routinely lied to me. They did screw up. They did look for the wrong information and waste 3 weeks. And they did screw me over knowing how important this job was for my 7 month old and his life/safety. They did this by neglecting my job, lying, and by being greedy. I cannot say enough bad about these guys. I'm 31 and have been in the computer sector since I wrote my first line of code at 14. I was willing to drive to them because of their excellent service. No other reputable company anywhere was able to assist me. They had assisted me before and I knew that they were able to recover my files. I am sure that I would have to pay again. But when I spoke to Kevin he did not hesitate to walk me thru my problem. This Yelp, I'm ashamed to say, is a long time coming. I am a writer who specializes in writing about political subjects in both a fictional and non fictional capacity. I have an editor and partner with whom I frequently lock horns, and during a heated argument I yanked the power cord out of my laptop to pack up and leave, as there was no reconciling our positions over an issue I scarcely even remember right now. It took place in the fall of last year. What I didn't realize, during my tantrum, was that in yanking ing out the power cord I simultaneously fried the motherboard of my Samsung laptop and at first sought repair from the nearest place I could find. A little Indian run shop near the Hicksville LIRR train station. The proprietor held my computer for over 3 weeks without addressing my problem (or even accurately diagnosing it) and I resolved to threaten to call the BBB and the police if he held my computer one day longer. He procured my computer and my deposit was returned. However, I still was no, closer to arriving at a comprehensive diagnosis. I took it to the Best Buy I'd bought the thing, but the Geek Squad just told me that they couldn't help me because I'd failed to buy their service contract when I purchased it. After taking it to one other place which also said they couldn't service my laptop for one reason or another, I let my fingers do the walking and found Networks by Design in Island Park. Not exactly a stone's throw, but If they could properly diagnose my laptop, the trip would be vindicated. There I met Kevin Huhn, proprietor of Networks, and I met a man who listened to my concerns (as I had a large body of several works, all time sensitive due to this highly politicized year, including a novel I'd written that addressed gun violence, specifically assault rifles that could be easily converted into automatic-fire weaponry, and whether the public should have access to such a thing any more than they should have access to a pineapple grenade). I've been having money problems and while he said my motherboard was unrepairable we swapped out the data from my computer to an external hard drive I had owned. My money issues have been persistent, but Mr. Huhn, sensitive to my situation, was flexible enough to bend his own policy insofar as holding hardware, as my hardware was slim in profile and occupied, in his opinion, a negligible amount of his warehouse space. He has been very patient with me, as I've attempted to raise the money to pay my bill, his only request being that I merely call in from time to time to let him now how things were fairing for me. This commercial chivalry, I judge, is a phenomenon that is quickly going the way of the dodo bird. Long. ago when I i was still in college, I had a roommate who's car battery died and he and I pushed his station wagon to the nearest service station for a jump. They said sure, that will be 50 bucks. We were both floored. Any neighbor on the street would have provided that courtesy for free, as long as you had the cables, and sometimes whether or not you had them because they did. Mr. Huhn flexibility, courtesy, and largess have made me feel secure in knowing my story (amongst other specimens of my literature were in a safe environment, and said courtesy is a rapidly receding phenomenon amongst businesses anywhere on the Island and, apparently, off of it. I would recommend Networks by design unreservedly as the owner has demonstrated sparkling, superrogatory business ethics and sensitivity to a customer who has been, for nearly a year now, somewhat down and out. I know that he and his staff are also gifted technicians equipped to diagnose and prescribe multiple approaches to reckoning with your hardware/software issues and provides a multitude of services beyond what is listed on his home page. I owe that man and his company and aim to make good on my debt. If only there were more commercial enterprises like his. He should totally franchise out. Everyone in the nation should have access to this level of sensitivity and service, especially during these dark economic times. read more

I had an external hard drive fail. It was a backup for a computer. The computer file failed and I was not able to access the external hard drive backup. Kevin at Networks By Design was able to recover the files within the external hard drive within 48 hours. I was then able to restore the files and I was "up and going". My experience was perfect and the price was very reasonable. read more

Networks by Design dba Web Services by Design at 45 Alabama Avenue, Island Park NY 11558 was hired on August 25 2014 to produce my web site working and live in about 3 months. It is Now March 7 2015, over 6 months and I still have not seen a working website. Bill was suppose to have updates last week and now I'm hearing next week.They used a basic template to modify and due to lack of experience have been unable to get critical functions working. From the start of the project Bill Burke the vice president and I thoroughly examined all the data I had and all the functions of similar websites and was told by Bill all data I had to give to him / Web Services by Design is NO PROBLEM and all good to go when they wanted the job and deposit. Bill had all data and several weeks to evaluate prior to quoting the job. Bill was very responsive and accommodating with his communicating with me in the beginning back in September 2014 but got much less prompt and responsive when their programmer from india crapped out on them, so beware of that. Now it's taking even more time and now even more un kept promises and still no website. I am not happy with the way my website project has been and is being handled by Networks by Design dba Web Services by Design. Knowing they had a problem they should have made it right for ME the client back in 2014. At least certainly by now March 2015, 6 months later and nothing but data entry excuses. At this point I really have heard enough un kept delivery and update promises and failure to deliver from the vice president William Burke. I'm sure you know what's next if the website is not done by the end of March 2015, now 7 months after they were hired. Bill and Steve, this is a problem that is not going away, both of you should have diligently straightened this out as a priority and had it done by now. Enough with the excuses. These people are scam artists and the shady office building they're in should have been my first clue. They brought me in telling me that the data recovery would be easy, at most 200 dollars, and that they would call me within 24 hours. Well, they didn't call me, so I called the next day. One guy told me that the diagnostics had been started the day before, and then another guy told me that they had not yet started. They said they would call me, again, and again they did not. So I called at the end of the day, and I was told that what formerly was supposed to be a 200 dollar job would be at minimum 1,000. After hearing 4 different stories about what happened, I came to the conclusion that they were either lying about having run the diagnostics at all, or they dropped and damaged my device. Although it was in perfect shape when I brought it in (aside from having forgotten that it had data on it), they said my device completely crashed and would no longer turn on. I will never, ever recommend these lying scam artists to anyone, and anyone thinking of using their services should definitely beware. read more
