This was a classic example of expectations far exceeding reality. I was expecting this beautiful chocolate shop and bakery in the middle of rolling farm hills. Well, the rolling farm hills are correct, but the rest is up for debate. The shop is very small with all the candy under glass. There are no samples and everything is priced by the pound ($35 a pound). Disappointing and underwhelming. I understand that you can't just give it away, but every candy store I have ever been in has samples. We purchased a quarter pound of mixed chocolate and called it a day. The girl behind the counter seemed as though we were taking her from some other job she was doing in another part of the building located in the other side of the parking lot. We saw her come out and walk into the gift shop when we drove up. We were the only people in the shop and I can understand why. Not very friendly, welcoming or in any way enticing. We would not return. And, Herr's sells the chocolate covered chips in their gift shop for $9. Trust me it's worth the extra $1 not to drive five miles out of your way. read more

My wife was in heaven when she saw there was a Neuchatel Factory Store not far from our trip to see a Cirque du Soleil show in Oak, PA. We used to be able to buy Neuchatel years ago when we visited NYC. But then that location closed. So this was an added bonus to our Cirque trip. And who knew that dark chocolate is vegan? I may not be vegan myself, but it sure would be a consolation if I ever had to change. The truffles are absolutely amazing with their different fillings. The toffee is amazing too - so creamy. The factory store is out in the middle of nowhere and they don't have a public restroom. But they are right next to a country club with restrooms that is open to the public. If you appreciate good chocolate, you'll go coco over this find. read more

This particular location is sort of hard to miss, but keep your eyes peeled for the sign! Once you drive up the driveway, the chocolate shop is nestled in the back. There were some chocolate bar samplings and some seasonal items (upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas) - I picked up a milk chocolate turkey, which I thought was super cute! The milk chocolates are creamy and sweet, and they melt in your mouth. I would love to try out their truffles the next time, as they had some interesting varieties. While attending the annual Chocolate Show at New York's Metropolitan Pavilion, I was able to have the pleasure of sampling Neuchatel Chocolates, which is amazing good. Their chocolates are simple consisting of milk, white, and dark along with a selection of cherry or raspberry fillings. I rate Neuchatel Chocolates four stars for their somewhat sky rocket prices and the lack thereof New York retail stores. I have to say my absolute favorite product in the store is Neuchatel's truffles, they are simply amazing...decadent, luxurious, rich, everything you'd expect a great truffle to be! And not to mention, delicious and smooth! Everything they do is fantastic. I would rather pay $3. for something amazing than pay $1.75 for something that's o.k. You don't treat yourself, or someone else everyday. I lived in Europe and have not had chocolate as good as Neuchatel anywhere. Overrated. Overpriced. They have so many rules and regulations about what they won't do for you and what they don't want you doing in their store. If they charged 1/2 it'd be worth it but they definitely aren't worth what they are charging. I prefer Eclat chocolate over in West Chester. This store is a 'danger zone' - the chocolates are awesome!! And when you have one... You need another! The quality of chocolate is excellent as are the nuts. We have tried many things from here. My one complaint is that the staff seems rather uninterested. The few times we've gone, I've tried to strike a conversation with the sales associate and while they're polite, they're not very friendly. I have yet to meet the owner. Also - why do they charge $3 for the flat box for truffles?? Whenever I get the free box, they almost stuff the truffles into layers upon layers just to make 1/2 or 1 lb fit into that tiny box. Is that the way to pack premium chocolates?? And the box doesn't close properly once you peel the sticker off. If I'm willing to pay a premium price, I expect it to be packed better than this! $30 of chocolates just stuffed together in a box that stays open. Unless you pay yet more for a box! read more

Excellent Swiss chocolates. Truffles to die for at a fairly reasonable price, either pre-boxed or choose your own. I live nearby and find myself here 3 or 4 times a year to pick up a gift for those hard to buy for types. Always loved by all! But, still can't make it out of here without a few treats for home, too. They also have a pretty good selection of confections from around the world, but I'd advise you stick with their in house chocolates. I've had pretty good chocolate from other fairly local (mid-Atlantic) choclatiers, but nothing compares to Neuchatel. I remember when Neuchatel had class. Now the chef, who has always created a superior product, runs the "business". It's disappointing that a great product is reduced to mediocrity due to the poor packaging, marketing and and management since the chef now tries to run the business. The original owners are probably disgusted with what has become of their creation. The new leadership is led by the chef they hand-picked to make the product for their business is obviously out of his league. He definitely has superior skills as a chocalatier, but as a entrepeneur he is clueless. It's ironic to see the new owner advertise and praise products that he never wanted to make. Neuchatel was a great company in the 80's and 90's, but Teuscher is the only place I go to now. I can't justify supporting Mcdonald's-like service when eating at Smith & Wol.
