Let me start off by saying I love Neuhaus chocolates and buy them not only for myself but as gifts as well. Since I live in CA, I decided to get a couple of boxes to take home. The person who waited on us wasn't very interested in engaging with us, even though we tried. They didn't seem to be knowledgeable about the chocolates. Apart from superb Belgian chocolates another confection is sold at Neuhaus especially during the festive season. Marron Glacé in plain, cognac or rum is sold here. The French and Japanese adore this delicacy and so do I. When I discovered that Neuhaus was selling them and at $6 I was thrilled. Despite the expense these marron glacé were tender and oozing with flavor. I went twice to buy six each. Shawn and Lizette helped me. I like going to the Grand Central location a lot as it's convenient and although small the store is literally packed with chocolate. For me, it's a dream! read more

I recently came by Neuhaus chocolate store on Madison and 52 and found my experience with salesperson Aniyah Jackson even sweeter than the chocolate she was selling. It was almost nonexistent these days old school attention to a customer and genuine desire to meet his/her expectations. Aniyah has all the necessary qualities of an outstanding salesperson: patience, friendliness, honesty. I was very impressed with her. Wanted to try something new for the sweet fix and found about this place through Yelp. Nestled next to the Double Tree hotel, this shop is extremely small - being able to only fit two people if following COVID protocols. There are a bunch of pre-packaged option against the wall if looking for a quick getaway. However, since there is no price-difference if selecting a custom assortment, opted to do that instead. Decided on the Small Assorted ($27 incl. tax) - a wide array of chocolates including gingerbread, marzipan, truffle, lavender, and more. Particularly liked the gingerbread chocolate, not so much the marzipan. Staff worker was super helpful as she patiently described many of the items and tied a bow around the box at the end. Typically when I travel I like to try new chocolate shops. NYC was no exception. After walking back from a run (have to burn those calories) I passed Neuhaus and bee-lined for the door. It was reminiscent of my trip to Brussels, Belgium in 2006. Much to my surprise it was a Belgium confectionary. After asking what the 'best sellers' were I was directed towards: milk chocolate tentation, sapho, annote (?, forgot the extract name and I think it is seasonal - it's the pyramid one w/ crystallized sugars on top). Two words: holy shit. It was fantastic. The annote was, by far, my favorite. Super creamy and smooth center and just enough sweetness. The sapho was my second favorite. It was also smooth, but a tad sweeter than the first. The third favorite was the tentation. It was very, very sweet (and rich). I loved it, but I was spoiled w/ the smooth cream centers of the other two. This had a nougat and a 'grainy' sweet center. Looking thru the little catalog - I have already spotted the pieces I will be taking home. And I will surely get a box for my husband and neighbors. If your a fan of praline or gianduja (or belgium milk chocolate), this the chocolate shop to stop. A few favorite pieces: Cornet d'Oré, Sapho, Caprice, Pagode, Astrid, Passion Amande, Tentation, Plasir, Bourbon 13, Mephisto, Coeur Praline, Louise, Suzanne, Jean, Adeison, Galerie, Fredric, Prestige, Millenaire, Milk Napoléonette, 1857 ... and more, but those are the ones I can pull off the top of my head. Yeah. They're that memorable. It is a small shop, almost walked right over it if I didn't have a rip-tide radar for Neuhaus. Staff was helpful and readily introduced me to the new chocolate assortments on the wall and chatted with me about the selection in the case. I was able to make a 25ish piece selection for about $44ish and they packed it in a nice sturdy box with a bow (points for presentation and travel-safe arrangements). Compared to other ny shops, the bang for your buck is noticeable: the pieces are three times the size of (let's say) La Maison and a better price. Be prepared to be impressed by the praline, gianduja or creams. Go to Teuscher if you're in the hung-ho for champagne truffles. I have not tried the liquor filled chocolates (though they're on my list). Looking forward to the Easter eggs in the Spring. read more

I was underwhelmed. I can't really tell you anything memorable about the little sampling I got, everything tasted kinda similar. They had these chocolates specifically meant to be enjoyed with tea, and they went fine with tea, but I can't say I noticed a difference between them and other chocolates while drinking a cup. The one really unique piece I remember, a round chocolate covered in gingerbread, was pretty underwhelming, but very crunchy. I prefer Royce. Service was nice though! Even though I didn't spend too much, the associate took her time to help me even though she was waiting on someone who spent $80 on their purchase. read more

We literally just walked out of this store and up to our hotel room where we greedily opened our bag. Naturally I've forgotten the names except for the millionaire which was a white chocolate with crispy hazelnut. We also had a white chocolate with coffee filling, dark chocolate with hazelnut cream filling and another white chocolate with hazelnut filling. I rue the fact that dark chocolate, which is my true love, has the tendency to give me headaches as I'm sure their dark chocolate is euphoric. OMG.......this is my new favorite chocolate shop. Teuscher, my dearly beloved, you will have to move over. I will still seek you out (Teuscher) on occasion, but Neuhaus will be number one with me.... the Cornet Dore, which is hazelnut and almond gianduja piped into a lovely design....... or the Astrid, gianduja with cocoa butter coated with sugar glaze. Perfection. Their champagne truffle rivals yours, Teuscher (Maggie C, take note). I thought I'd love you best, Teuscher, but Neuhaus is where it's at for me. I also tried other Neuhaus chocolates, and all were scrumptious, intensely good. Although I will return when in NY again, THANK GOD, 3,000 miles separates us, or I'd be in deep you-know-what. Day before Valentines Day... all I wanted was 2-3 pieces of good chocolate. Walked by this spot before heading back to work at Bryant Park... Let me tell you what a disappointment it was coming here. The store was so tiny, three people and you won't be able to open the door. I think I got hit by the door once or twice. I wanted to snap a camera phone pic to tweet what I was purchasing. I heard a loud "DON'T TAKE PICTURES HERE. PHOTOS ARE NOT ALLOWED" by the store manager. I wanted to tell her to shut up and leave the store. Unfortunately the amount of people in the store kept me packed like sardines. Feeling guilty with a sad face.. I ended up buying three small pieces of chocolate. One dark with caramel, one dark with hazelnut, and one milk chocolate heart shaped one. ALL OF THEM tasted disgusting. Also the price was not worth it! idiot (noun): a person who lives and/or works within five minutes of a delicious chocolate shop and does not venture inside. I was an idiot until last week. Neuhaus is indeed teeny tiny, and there was only one person behind the counter so I had to wait a bit. But the salesperson was polite and helpful, and apologized for the wait several times. I ended up ordering two boxes: one for me + friends, and another as a gift. The 17-18 or so chocolates cost around $34, so it definitely ain't cheap. But the chocolates I sampled were simply delectable. Rich, with subtle flavors and high-quality ingredients... They don't have the soap-like texture that the cheap chocolates tend to have. I especially liked the marzipan (the inverted one was my favorite), and my friend raved about the hazelnut pyramid thing. I think I still like Burdick Cafe chocolates a bit more (they're smoother), but Neuhaus chocolates are definitely up there. Strongly recommended as a luxurious treat for yourself, or a present for others! Note: the chocolate eggs are 50% off after Easter (and they are delicious). The truffles leave some to be desired; pass those up for the other chocolates, especially the sugar-crusted hazelnut pyramid! read more

SWEET GLORIOUS CHOCOLATE!! This place is fantastic. My first Neuhaus experience was in Luxembourg, and that experience has raised the bar. Godiva? I think not. The location on Lex is tiny, but has a wonderful selection and free samples. Did I mention the FREE SAMPLES. The staff is always extremely nice and helpful. Be sure to check out their seasonal chocolates and candies. Nothing beats grabbing a few chocolates and heading the 5 feet next door to the Cafe Metro and having an espresso on a rainy day. Normally I am a fan of this brand but I feel the quality has gone down hill. Our truffles lacked the chocolatey flavor we have come to expect from Neuhaus and the chocolates had a very waxy texture. I'm not a fan of Godiva but even that would have been better quality and a lot less expensive . read more

Neuhaus makes some of the best chocolate that I have ever had. It is simply delicious. Other brands just don't compare. The prices are a little steep but you are getting such quality chocolate it is worth every penny. Yes the Neuhaus stores in NYC are small but they are always nice and courteous and extremely helpful. I have built my own one pound box of chocolates on more than once occasion and every time they offer if I would like to sample a piece while I am picking out my chocolates. read more

SImply amazing chocolate!! Just the right amount of sweetness and such unique flavors!! I got the strawberry something from their new collection. The burst of strawberry was just so fresh! The violetta is dark choco with crystallized violet petals on the outside and you can really taste the flower. I also got this one with carmelized nuts in it and that was crunchy but yummy. The star of it all is the caprice (toffee filled with vanilla fresh cream)..different textures in it and great flavor. LOVE IT!! read more

I first had Neuhaus when in Belgium last year and I became addicted. Oh course in Belgium they have more varieties and selections. In the US this will suffice most taste buds. I love the truffles. Today when I went into the store they had some new varieties a chocholate with a hint of cayenne powder was a nice mixture of sweet and heat. I also had a really creamy and rich hazelnut with a thin coat of sugar on it not sure of the name sorry. Just describe and ask the sales person it began with a A. Sale clerks are always helpul when I go there and offers samples not sure if its because I am a regular and spend 100usd per visist on average. Be warned this place is addictive and expensive at 54usd per pound but oh my its worth it. read more

These tiny Manhattan-apartment-closet-sized shop(pe)s (typically in Midtown, naturally) make you feel so pressured to buy something, and so awkward to even so much as request a sample. That said, Neuhaus peddles a solid product at the expected rates. 2015 update: "The luxury chocolatier has dedicated a corner of its uptown flagship to ice cream, offering 10 flavors (eight permanent, two rotating) that skew on the classic side (Mexican vanilla, cookies and cream) and toppings like chopped nuts, fruits and the same crushed speculoos cookies that are found in its pralines. The chocolates here are excellent! I just received a box as a Christmas gift and I decided to stop by this location to pick up some chocolates to gift to someone. The location is small and I actually walked past it by accident. It is right next to the hotel. If you look up, you will see the Neuhaus sign. I love that majority of their chocolates has nuts in it. I just wanted to get someone a small box of 9 pieces and it came to about $19 and some change. It's expensive, but this chocolate is well worth it. The woman helping me was very friendly and answered any questions I had. The box was wrapped nice and ready to be gifted. All of the chocolates are so divine, it's hard to pick just one favorite. read more
