When we moved to the area Windy Moon Quilts were selling both Brother and Babylock machines. When my Babylock need repair went there and the woman at the counter way so rude saying the didn't work on Babylocks. She could have been nice the say they were no longer a Babylock distributor. Because of her rudeness I have not stepped into this store again nor have I kept their playing card that you get for buying in their store. Left there and went over to Sierra Sewing where the people working there are courteous and helpful at all times. Sierra Sewing also offers some wonderful classes. If asked by anyone about where to find a great machine embroidery/quilting/material store I will recommend the store with great customer service. read more

And we got the Nevada Row by Row selection. I was denied service at windy moon quilts because I have a medical condition. I cannot wear a face mask. The woman behind the counter refused to listen to me when I explained this to her. I have reached out to the owner, but he will not reply. I've been a loyal customer for many years and have spent thousands of dollars here. I have recommended many people to this shop. I took a quilt top my mother started to have it finished into a 78x96 quilt, and when it was finished it was 73x89. I ask for a refund or the quilt to be made bigger as I thought I was paying for, and was told neither could be done as per Sandy the owner shame shame what happened to the customer is always right? Visited the Sparks location, which doesn't seem to be listed on Yelp. Bright fabrics rule at this cute shop. (The Reno store stocks more traditional fabrics.) Nice selection of notions, patterns, thread, batting, rulers, etc. and lots of jelly rolls. Friendly gal helped us out with end of bolt purchase. I didn't find the bargain shelf, but lots of choices here. read more

I purchased the Brother Entrepreneur Pro from Windy Moon Quilts. I could not have had a nicer experience in the process. I wasn't sure I really wanted to take the big step into industrial machines. I currently owned a smaller embroidery machine which has been put through the paces. After talking with Kathy over several weeks, she invited me to an event they had last weekend and I was able to use the machine for myself. I was sold. She worked with me to get the financing and really held my hand every step of the way. I really feel she cared about my needs. I have been given great lessons on my new machine and I really am happy I took the plunge! The owners Mike & Sandy were very kind and thanked me for my business. I have been going to the store for a while, but this is the first "Major Purchase" I have ever made there. I will be happy to do it again. read more

The store was amazing and the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. All their fabrics were nicely organized and their displays throughout the store were lovely. Very spacious store filled with tons of high-end expensive fabrics. Usually this type of store have clearance section, but windy moon quilts did not have any which kinda disappointed me. What I liked about this store was that they carry all the new designer fabrics which just came out this fall. Staff were okay, nice but not exceptionally friendly people either. They exclusively carry cotton fabrics, not linen nor denim. read more

I like the shop and all the ladies who work there, but the machine repair took MONTHS and didn't really fix the problem. Twice.

I bought seven neckties for myself and my groomsmen. I wanted a simple emblem stitched into them (a box with an x in it). I brought them here at the recomendation of my fiancee. When I picked up the ties I saw that on one of them the square emblem is crooked. I left it there and came back when the owner Mike was in, who also ran the stitching machine. I explained my disappointment over the expensive tie now being ruined and asked if he could reimburse me for the tie. He emphatically said no. I told him this tie represents his business to me and asked if he was proud of it. He then started explaining how expensive his machine is. When I asked if he guarantees his work he did not respond. In summary, if this man screws up a square emblem against two parallel lines, he is careless. He is not proud of his work but too proud to amend his mistakes. If you care about your property and the quality of work performed on it, find a business that cares about those things and their customers. Mike @ Windy Moon does not. read more

Several weeks ago I went into your Sparks store for the first time. I wanted a book on Mainer's Compasses. In that room stood a life size cardboard of Trump. I was furious. The kind lady who waited on me asked me if I was offended by it and I said yes--he's destroying my country. I bought the book. The other owner who apparently put the thing in there asked what country I was from!!! While the one owner could not have been nicer--I resented the second one. I will not shop there again. I go to fabric stores for fabric and not politics. This saddened me greatly but I would bet there are a lot of other ladies who felt the same as I and haven't said anything. I tried to send you a message and it would not go through so I am taking this venue. I love your Reno store but I will never go into the Sparks store again. read more

I am hosting a charity quilting event and asked the manager if she might be willing to put up a poster about it. She said "yes" and invited me to bring the poster and flyers to the store. I arrived 3 minutes after they closed the doors, so I knocked on the window to see if I could leave the posters somewhere. The worker was sitting on a stool and turned and stared at me. I tried to indicate that I had something to drop off. She continued to stare at me and then shook her head, "no". I tried again, holding up the posters and she shook her head and turned the other way. I called on the phone, knowing that there were still three employees there. It rang 48 times and she finally picked it up, clearly irritated. I'm pretty sure I made her get off her stool. When I asked why she ignored me, she replied that they were closed and weren't allowed to open the doors. It was company policy. I told her that it was inconsiderate to dismiss and ignore me. She could have at least walked to the door and talked to me. I could have slid the posters between the doors and no policies would have been broken. She just wanted to argue with me about company policy. I don't understand what happened to basic customer service and common courtesy. If this is the kind of employees Windy Moon is going to hire, I will shop elsewhere. read more

By far the worst customer service I have had anywhere in a long time. It was the highest price I have ever seen on quilt fabric, then they tried to overcharge me and wouldn't explain the pricing on unmarked fabric, and the whole time they made me and my children feel incredibly unwelcome with their comments and rudeness. To top it off, they were completely unhelpful finding me the colors I wanted. What should have been a fun day exploring patterns and picking out fabric with my daughter as I introduce her to sewing wound up being an awful experience. They lost a customer for life. read more

I took my Brother serger in for repair since they are an authorized service representative for that brand. Three weeks later they still hadn't touched it. We went in to pick it up and they weren't the least bit apologetic and didn't offer any explanation for the lack of service. They did, however, make sure to put me on their email list and have been spamming me pretty much daily since I dropped the machine off. read more

I had Windy Moon do machine quilting on a quilt for me that was for one of our ministers and his wife. I gave full instructions on how it was to be done with the backing attached to allow for an extra 2 inches all around the quilt to be finished by hand for the binding. Having said that, it came back with the stippling off the edge and off center, with no allowance for the binding. It appeared to have been put through the machine without supervision. I will never use their services again read more

I wish there was a way to give a business zero stars. Windy Moon Quilts has THE WORST customer service I have ever experienced!! I got a gift card for this store for my birthday. I have a high end sewing machine that I lost the foot pedal and power cord for, so I ordered replacement parts in March 2015. At the time the store clerk could not tell me when the items would be ordered, how much ch they would cost, or when they might arrive. I assumed a couple of weeks, but boy was I wrong!! After going to the store twice, and calling three times, in April I found out my order has not even been placed! In the months since I placed my order, I found both items online, but I really wanted to use the gift card, so I insisted they at least tell me how much the items would cost. The clerk called and left a message, $17 for the power cord and $84 for the foot pedal. In JUNE, last week, they called to tell me the pedal had arrived, no mention of the power cord. I went in to pick it up, and the power cord had in fact not arrived. THREE MONTHS after I placed my order, I still could not use my machine. I asked the clerk, who was not helpful at all, to ring it up anyway, I would just order the power cord online. The pedal was $144!! Almost TWICE as much as I had been quoted over the phone!! I was pretty furious at this point, and again, there was no manager to speak with. I asked if I could just buy a power cord off one their floor models, the clerk had to ask her manager. She called, and he said I could buy one for 10% off... 10% off a USED power cord that was twice as much as any other store to begin with! Thanks, what a deal! After three months of dealing with these people that don't communicate with one another, Or their customers, I had to pay $60 more than they said I would, and buy a used power cord, that I had to request, as they offered NO help at all. The "Manager" did nothing to right the obvious wrong when they quoted me $84, and then charged me $144. My whole gift card used and then some. Obviously a business that has no care for it's customers at all. I will NEVER shop at this store again, and NEVER recommend them to anyone! This place is way overpriced, and the service is terrible. Anytime I am in the Tahoe area, I make a point to drive to Reno just to go to Windy Moon Quilts. I've also been to their Sparks store. Different fabrics, and as cute as can be. I am an avid quilter. I shop all over for high quality quilting cotton, and I also shop online at reputable sites. Nothing is more fun than shopping at Windy Moon! I have purchased fabrics there that I can't find elsewhere, and even though it is 300 miles from my home, I won't miss an opportunity to visit there when I can. I'm sorry to read the negative stories about their customer service. My experience has always been exemplary! I find the employees there extremely helpful and knowledgable. I even had an experience last year, in which I purchased quite a bit of fabric during one visit. I got home from my vacation to find a message on my home phone, from the sales clerk, explaining that they overcharged me for the quantity of fabric that I'd purchased, and wanted to refund the difference to my credit card. I find that pretty fantastic customer service. A less reputable shop might have waited until I noticed the discrepancy, and not called me ahead of time. I was credited promptly, and sing their praises to all of my quilting friends that this is a must-see store when in the Tahoe/Reno area! I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often, or even take classes there. read more

Terrific shop packed with a serious variety of quilting fabrics, patterns, trims & machines. I brought all 3 of my kids in with me & not one employee looked at us sideways or gave us trouble even when my overeager 7 year old felt the need to pick up every fascinating project piece (I understand her compulsion). I didn't require any help selecting fabrics so I can't voice an opinion there. The prices are in line with a local operation. If you're looking for cheap fabric, chain stores may suit you better. That being said, items I picked up were either in line or a few dollars above it. I don't mind that for a local operation that I like - and there is nothing not to like here. Employees were top notch, several asked how we were & we didn't have to wait long to get our fabrics cut. When back in town - we will see you again! read more

I have read several of the reviews written about this business. One that I take issue with is the individual who complained about a bench charge for looking at her machine... It's only right a business would charge some fee to look at your machine just like a mechanic would charge a fee to look at your car or a repairman would charge a fee to look at your refrigerator.. The other question would be why would you go from a very low level machine to one that would cost you thousands of dollars.. You may have bought from A+ but you did not purchase a life time of service or repair.. I have frequented Windymoon for years and have had nothing but excellent service and sales.. I would not purchase a machine from another dealer in town... read more

I am fairly new to Reno and have purchased items at this store several times and gone to 2 informational classes. The selection of materials is superb and the sales staff is very helpful and attentive. Last week I took my 4 month old Brother machine in because the feed dogs wouldn't rise. Sean (tech) said this turned out to be a 5 second fix but they checked out my machine anyway (It's new, what is there to check out?). They charged me a bench charge of $45. Wow, it that great customer service? I understand they charge a fee, but since they did not have to do any work at all on the machine, it would have been smart to make it a complimentary service. They have lost a customer. I wanted to upgrade anyway, so I went to A-1 Sewing and bought a Babylock Destiny. Windy Moon also lost a big sale. Go there for the fabric, not the machine service. read more

Was in Reno for the Great Reno Balloon Race, and stayed at the motel right next to Windy Moon Quilts. Had some time one afternoon and went into the shop. They do have a large selection of fabric, books, and patterns, but was not impressed with their sales people. None of them took the time to come over and ask if I needed help or was looking for anything in particular. If I'm ever in Reno again, would probably not go back in this store. read more

Their fabrics are pricey. And I do mean pricy. If you're into Civil War fabrics, or dark, boring Thimbleberries type fabrics, this is your place. However, they don't carry a good selection of really up-to-date modern fabrics. And, their staff turnover is like nothing I've ever seen. Every time I go in there, there are new and unfamiliar (and untrained) staff people. Some of their staff people have never sewn a stitch in their lives. The last time I went was to buy a sewing machine accessory. It was marked $9.99, but rang up as $11.99. The girl said, "oh. The price went up on these. We must have missed this one." I said that since it said $9.99, I wanted it for $9.99. She looked nervous and said, "Oh. I have to go ask Mike." I'm assuming that Mike is the terrorist owner? So, Mike was unavailable, so she did end up selling the item for $9.99 like it was marked. It's just common sense, good customer service. I don't come here unless I absolutely have to. Anyway, If you're looking for something specific, you might be able to find it here. read more
