We worked with the team at BDS to come up with a perfectly curated palette of colors to go with my "little cutie" theme (orange, pink, and yellow), and they put together a stunning organic arch and collections of balloons throughout the venue (a dreamy white tent). The magician I wanted to hire was booked somewhere else and I only found out a few days before, but the balloon sculpture artist Mark recommended instead was an absolute hit with the kids as well as the adults, which was a pleasant surprise. He made my husband the most outrageous birthday hat. Right when he was supposed to be done, one of the kids tripped and popped his balloons and got upset, and he stayed longer to make him (and a few other stragglers) more balloons. Truly kind. The photographer David was also really so helpful, friendly, and on it! He came early and helped with some of the set up... he was attentive and also very nice to talk to. Very natural (sometimes it's awkward when a photographer's in your face taking pictures but it wasn't awkward at all). We got a USB full of pictures right after the party! My Halls Helper winced then smiled. He knew the lost rider and had ridden with him a few times. He knew the man, the tragedy and the graveside memorial. He missed him. As I rode by after my car was plant-packed, I cast an eye at that spot and there, in the shining spring sun were brand newly sprouted yellow tulips and an American flag. The rider lives on. God bless Halls Garden Center, its fine American men and women and that brother rider I never knew who was lost too soon but is preserved in memory with that international sign of life and remembrance: plants and flowers and flora freely waving in the breeze. Get to Halls and stop just reading my raves! In a country occasionally fragmented and fractured and allegedly untethered by a lack of brotherhood, of sorority, of kindness, of patient grace and credible integrity, here's a place that's right on time every time you walk into her Hallowed Halls.
