I really dig this hair salon. They have online scheduling which is extremely convenient. There is this awesome dog who belongs to the owner of this salon who is so chill and just hangs around the salon while you're getting your hair done. The interior is very cozy and relaxed. It is like getting your hair cut at a friends house, they really make you feel welcome. The bathroom was dirty when I came though and there were no paper towels to dry my hands. They also only take cash and this isn't listed on their Yelp page so make sure you have cash on hand because they don't have an ATM in their salon. Other than those two little peeves, the experience was great. I have a really hard time trusting colorists other than my usual back home because I always want a particular look and most people are never able to get it right. However, Jordan was phenomenal. She listened to exactly what I wanted and I showed her pictures. She gave me the perfect blonde highlights. I wanted no yellow or gold tones and she made sure it was a white blonde look. I was very happy with the outcome and it cost $95 for a half head. I would definitely come back here for a haircut or future coloring appointments. read more

I just had my second haircut at New Age Salon and, once again, it was amazing!!! I have very curly hair and Amanda did a wonderful job... my cut is trendy yet super easy to maintain- this is the best my hair has ever looked!. The place is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly. I'm from NYC and I've always waited to go back home to get my haircuts. However, I went to NAS on the spur of the moment to get my long locks cut into an asymmetrical bob style. At first I was nervous about how the results would look like but the stylist did an amazing job! I love my new haircut and am planning on going back from trims. I love it so much that i recommended this place to all my friends and they went there subsequently. The reason why I am not giving this place the five star treatment is because of customer service. I came into the salon, no one greeted me until about 5 minutes of just standing by the desk and repeatedly saying "hello?" even when there was a stylist cutting hair right next to the receptionist desk. Completely ignored me. Then as I was about to get my haircut, the stylist didn't even ask me what kind of cut I wanted as she was about to go right in for it. I had to stop her and say "you didn't even ask me what kind of cut I wanted." She was very rude to me and my friends who were waiting on the chairs. At the end of the cut, she didn't ask me whether or not I was pleased and so I asked her if she could fix a part of the cut that was a bit strange and I tried pointing the spot and she gave me an attitude saying "can you not point and put your hand down so I don't cut your finger?" How about, can YOU not put up the blade by my hand until after I'm done pointing the spot out. My friend came in for a hair dye consultation and had asked what kinds of colors she would recommend for dark brown asian hair and the same stylist looked at her and said "why would I tell you that? I can't tell you things like that." She also said "if you make an appointment, make sure you really are going to come in because it wastes my time when people cancel, especially since this is a hair dye it takes more time too." The cut was great, the attitude, I could live without. Everyone else has said that customer service here was top notch but I beg to differ. My friends who went there after me all said the same about the bitchy attitudes and the lack of customer service. Not really sure why theres a discrepency between my experience and the experience of my 3 other friends, but I'll deal with it since the cut came out so great. read more

Amanda is an amazing hair artist! I get numerous compliments on my hairstyle and am always getting asked who cuts my hair. Over the years, she has changed my hairstyle always being sure to update my look as the trends go in and out. She always seems to know what style would look best with the shape of my face and match my personality. The only reason I give 4 stars is that she is amazingly popular, which means you MUST book in advance. I now book 3 or 4 appointments ahead because you have no shot of getting in if you call one week ahead. She will; however, put you on a cancellation list and give you a call if a spot opens up in case you have a hair emergency! read more

Whenever I do though, they always find a way to get the results I want, while being the gentlest to my hair as they can be. I followed my stylist Todd, who had been "doing" my hair for several years, to New Age. I loved his cuts and highlights. Unfortunately, he left the shop very soon to pursue a different career, and I decided to stay and give another stylist a try. My haircuts were OK--I didn't have a precision cut or anything difficult. But the highlights were a disaster. At each appointment, I tried to show--with pictures and using the salon's samples--how I wanted the base color (necessary to cover some grey), and the shade of highlights, but my stylist could never "get it". After four (expensive) visits, I finally left. My daughter had the same experience with the same stylist, and left shortly after I did. Neither of us had Amanda. Perhaps we should have, after reading some of the previous praise of her color finesse, but we didn't know that then. read more

In search of a new salon, it came down to "The New Age Salon" and another highly rated salon in the area. After reading all the great reviews about Amanda and the salon, I thought I'd give it a try. She made my mom the happiest she's ever been with her hair, and she had a reason to be, it was the best it's ever looked. A week later, I went in for my cut, and I have very long hair, and usually just trim without adding layers or changing the cut. Usually I have to remind the stylist not to cut off too much, with Amanda I didn't even say it once and she knew exactly what I wanted. Very professional, friendly, and talented. Kristen has done my hair twice at New Age. I have been very happy with the results. We are trying a variety of products on my hair as it thick and hard to tame at times. Like the atmosphere in this place - I was there for Halloween and they all dressed as each other - very clever idea. A happy and friendly salon. And they don't make you wait - previously tried Cortos in Hamburg and I wanted almost 50 minutes for my scheduled appointment and the stylist didn't listen to my request. This has not happened at New Age. Kristen and I talk about what I should do with my hair and what products I should try. Bumble and Bumble has travel sizes and they carry them in the salon. I've been a client here since the beginning, and wouldn't consider going anywhere else! Even when I moved away from Buffalo for a number of years, I would still come home for my haircuts. And it's not just the incredible talent that keeps me coming back.....there is something different about this salon - the vibe, the atmosphere, the energy. When you walk in, you kind of forget you're in Buffalo...(which is not to say Buffalo isn't great, it just has a more bohemian feeling than this city usually offers). The ladies who work there are awesome, and the prices are absolutely reasonable - you get what you're paying for: the ability to craft a work of art out of your hair. This is how you know your hair looks magnificent - you're walking down the street in the lower east side of NYC, and someone passing by says "that's a fierce haircut...where'd you get it done?" and you say "a salon in Buffalo"....and they say "NO way!". That, my friends, is why I'm hopelessly devoted! Watching this local business grow and flourish over the years gives hope to the city of Buffalo, and it's small but determined art and fashion scenes. I was not impressed with my visit to New Age Salon. I have lived in New York City and Los Angeles and have always chosen Bumble & Bumble Salons, and have never encountered a method where you do not face the mirror. It was the most disconcerting haircut I have ever received - the least she could have done to a new customer was brief me on this "technique". I had no opportunity to tell her what I liked and didn't, and when I told her I wanted to see her cut, she only acquiesced for a few moments and then turned me back around. The cut aside, I found the woman who cut my hair so cold, unfriendly and bored, I couldn't wait to leave. I didn't even bother to ask her to change my hair cut and instead had it fixed by another salon that I prefer better. I am actually a really big fan of this shop for a number of reasons..... first is of course that the Jordan and Amanda give great haircuts! They are both young, beautiful, hip, which to me is exactly what you want in someone who is deciding your fate with a scissor. Second, they do online scheduling which is HUGE for me.... I'm busy and I pretty much need my calendar open anytime I am booking anything and it's always awkward to say no 5x in a row to open options. At my own free time I can open the website and pick and day with whomever I like, perfect! Third, this place is not expensive.... although I only cut my hair, nothing else, I think $45-50 is reasonable when I'm walking out happy. Ok ok let's add a fourth.... Amanda has a pup that hangs out in the shop and he's super cute! Makes for fun waiting time! Saw Amanda today, and she was excellent. She exudes confidence and talent, and she definitely was able to achieve what many in the past have not; a stylish taming of my uber-thick, curly red mane. She has a theory of how to cut curly hair. And after sitting in her chair for a half hour, I'm sure she has lots of other theories concerning all types of hair. It's obvious that she's thinking, evolving, and passionate about what she does. After 35 years as a hairstylist I finally retired and with that I was in search of someone to cut my hair. Since childhood and all through my hairstyling career, I have hair cuts I liked, not loved. I am 56 years old and that is a lot of hair cuts in a life time. I stumbled upon Amanda and she told me she owned New Age Salon. I took the chance and I have now had four haircuts that I not only love, her work is awesome but she also is consistent in the quality of her work. Overall a pretty good experience. I initially made the appointment to first cut off a good chunk of my hair to donate and then hopefully have enough to hair left to actually have some kind of styling done. I had Jordan, and I felt that she really was considerate with how to treat my hair. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted other than something that was low maintenance. I had my hair done by Jordan and absolutely love it! She washed, cut and styled it all for $44 where other places it would be $20 more and I have to ask for them to even dry it! She was so easy to talk to and the atmosphere is so unique. Having long wavy hair that's weighed down, I wasn't sure what kind of style I should get but I knew I wanted some body to it. I told her do what you think will look best, and she went away carefully layering each piece of hair and end result: gorgeous layered hair full of body. New Age is hands down the best place I've gotten my hair done in Buffalo. You honestly can't beat the price, the stylists, and the chic salon. Definitely ask for Jordan because she can look at your hair and just know what will look best. I definitely plan on making this place my new regular salon! read more

Bad customer service. Overpriced. Long waits.

This review is a bit overdue. I received a men's haircut about a month ago and it was a fine experience. It was the first time I had been to the salon. The quality of the cut itself is superb and it is arguably the best styling I have ever received. I have been getting compliments. The stylist was professional, thorough, and pleasant. A straight razor was used in order to precisely define a hairline on the back of the head. I have never seen this done outside of a barber's. I have personally never used a straight razor or had one used on me. It served to impress. The hair product used made for a good finishing touch. I purchased some without being upsold and have managed to recreate it's effect on my own. That may sound trivial but it's something I haven't been able to do in the past (due to incompetence or bad product, I don't know). I am able to make myself look (almost) as good outside of the salon as when I received the cut originally. I enjoyed my time at the salon. I had a warm conversation with the stylist (Amanda) which was more satisfying than the dry exchange you might expect to have in a place of business. It was more like a conversation you would have with a friend. She was a pleasure. Granted I have only been there the one time, I was impressed enough to review it. I think that my expectations were too high when I went to get my hair cut due to all the positive reviews I had read about Amanda and the salon. I cut 14 inches off my hair so that I could donate to Locks of Love. I like the cut she gave me, but it's nothing like the picture I showed her. My hair is very curly, and I told her before she cut my hair that I don't like wearing it curly and that I needed it long enough to still flat iron it. She didn't take that into consideration when she cut it, and cut/layered it based on my curls. I left there looking like Ronald McDonald. I also found her to be slightly rude when talking to me about not wanting to wear my hear curly. Her dog is so adorable though! He sat on the chair next to me while I was waiting. The place had a good atmosphere, and I was expecting amazing so I'm sure it's my fault that I had the experience that I did. read more

I love, love, love this salon! I have been to so many salons in Buffalo, and have never found happiness till I came here. I have long hair and extremely picky ( not trying to be a pain in the ass) but Amanda and Jordan are both fab! I trust both completely and they are very talented and they listen. I have been in the Buffalo area for a few months and I'm extraordinarily lazy when it comes to dealing with my hair (I tend towards the ridiculously long and couldn't care less look) but with graduation coming up I decided it's time to look professional. I found New Age Salon when I Googled 'best hair salon in Buffalo' and after reading some glowing reviews here how could I resist? I booked with Jordan (randomly) and looked forward to my first 'real' haircut in a while for a week. I arrived with a couple of photos I had printed in hand of celebrity haircuts I liked and she took a quick look, assurred me that she would keep most of my length (minus dead ends of course) and off she went. She is very personable and did a FANTASTIC job on my hair, I couldn't be happier. Yes it is a little bit on the pricy side, certainly not the most I've paid for a haircut in my life, but you get what you pay for and she did a terrific job...I might even make a point of getting a touch-up before I move away from Buffalo for good. read more

It is with heavy heart that I have to write this. I have been going to Amanda for at least five years. Since day one the Shampoo's suck. I don't know what happened but the fine art of shampooing hair seems to have gone the wayside. My hair never has felt clean leaving the salon. I overlooked that because the first year I got amazing haircuts...and the blowouts were just as perfect. The second I would walk out of the salon I would get compliment and compliment. Then I noticed that the haircuts were still okay but the blowouts were, well I was embarrassed to go anywhere but home after I left. Then the haircuts started to get so bad that I would have gouges in them and each side was cut different and uneven. I would go home and re-cut it myself. This last time was the last draw. My shampoo left my hair still dirty, the cut was way shorter than I wanted, it was uneven, she over "products my hair to death". I told her there was no need to dry it, let it go natural cause I would end up having to wash it when I got home. So I got a poor shampoo, a poor haircut, not blow out and she charged me $6 more for her having to do less work. I checked her website and the prices didn't increase. I left very discouraged and sad because my first year was an amazing experience. All that coupled with the fact that in five years she has cancelled appointments that I made at least twice a year. So sad I have to find someone else. read more
