Wow! This space has been transformed into such a cool place. With new management late last year New Am has become a place to grab some delicious expertly crafted cocktails and amazing comfort food. New Amsterdam has partnered with Cold Friends Kitchen and the food is spectacular. All of the staff there are so friendly. This is definitely a place I'll go more often!

Cool Art, Good Beer and Chill Atmophere? Yes! That is this place in a nutshell. I like this place alot! It's the kind of place I'd frequent if I lived in Lawrenceville. I've seen it dead and busy over the years and it's mostly cool people. My favorite part of this place is their second floor and rooftop. I'll be back soon to buy some art and drink some brews.

Not to be confused with Nude Amsterdam, which is a place I like very very very much. This is a very hipster place but they make a good effort. I don't like the food and the prices are a little on the high side, especially for Pittsburgh, but I think it has lovely decor, and a wonderful location, if you can find parking right in the heart of Lawrenceville. And don't get me started on the amazing service here. The service is really the main reason why it gets four stars.

We came in around 5pm on a Saturday and the roof top was about half full. You order at the bar. I ordered the wings (black and gold=bbq and honey mustard). The wings were nice and crunchy but the sauce was on the heavy side. My friend liked her fish tacos. The bier cheese is not good but the pretzels were soft. By 7, this place was bumping and at 10pm was jam packed!

A nice spot in Lawrenceville. Parking is a bit problematic but that's more a problem with the area and not so much the restaurant. We've been going here for trivia on Wednesday nights (at 8!). It's generally pretty crowded so can't be too tough on the staff on these busy nights but service a little slow this past Wednesday. They have an excellent draft selection. Food menu is just a notch up from standard bar food. I had the burger which was great though someone I was with had the chicken tenders and felt they were undercooked. Prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

We didn't try the beer, but they had a wide variety that linked to untapped. We had cocktails and apps, which promptly arrived. The rooftop patio looks awesome for warmer weather and the interior featured all kind of unique art.

I was here once before a few years ago and had a good veggie wrap but I had since thought it was closed! Happy to see it opened again with a nice new bar layout. It seemed a bit fancier. They were even able to serve us moscow mules in the copper mugs. The new menu looked good; short and sweet. I ordered some loaded fries, with a definite mexicana twist. It had spices, pico de gallo and sour cream. I planned to take it to go but after I looked at it (checked for no bacon), I got a fork right then and there and dug in! They had a new juke box and my friend and I were spoiled with someone at the end of the bar with a good taste in music. It was a really chill place for a snack at 10:30 on a weekday and I would go again.

We ate at another place on Butler and was looking for a place to go for a few drinks after. A friend suggested New Amsterdam! It was a chill bar with lots of beer choices! We had a few drinks at the high top table near the bar. The bartender was super friendly and even suggested beer options for us! The lighting was a little dark but fit in with the Lawrenceville vibes! Highly recommend!

Earlier in the year, I missed out on an opportunity to come here before a concert. Tonight however, with rush-hour roads particularly congested due to the NHL draft, Kay and I parked the car in a leafy, shaded part of Butler Street, and went to New Amsterdam. With bohemian graffiti on the side and an industrial motif in the storefront complete with a retractable garage door which was open for the summer evening, New Amsterdam is fashioning itself into a unique Lawrenceville fixture without a drop of sweat. Our terrific twosome of young, female, adorably chichi servers were rays of utter sunshine to everyone from mohawked urban guerillas to middle-aged mothers. We were immediately made to feel as if we were just spontaneously visiting some good friends at their mod East End apartment. I know I keep alluding to "hipness," and there's nothing wrong with it, really. I only have issues with it when it is done too laboriously or in an attempt to alienate and exclude or when it's simply silly or lame. NA get a big "N/A" on every one of those dotted lines because it just is what it is. Everyone is welcome at NA, and the prices are affordable. Not being a drinker, I can imagine feeling gobs more comfortable here than in neighboring bar Partners, where I fear I'd likely find myself having to knock someone on his ass or some more pretentious place where I'd laugh at everyone. So what did I think of the food? I mean, why else would a semi-straight-edger like me come here? I came very close to ordering the Pulled Pork Sliders since they came with potato salad, but our server raved about Jimmy's Fish Taco and offered to make the desired side-dish substitution, so I went pescaterian for supper. The scorched tiger stripes on the artful, cut-on-a-bias tortilla gave each munch a charred, campfire hug, one that included a fully-stuffed sleeping bag of creamy, tender Mexican flavors and textures. Cubes of cauterized Mahi Mahi snuggled alongside avocado, tomato, and a peppery orange mayonnaise that bled down my fingers as I gently savored each half. The potato salad stand-in had a runny dressing, huge cuts of spud, and some hints of bacon and onion. While not a truly great potato salad to my palate, I didn't find myself wishing for fries either as it was a notch above serviceable but probably could have used more salt, acid, thickness and tubers that were boiled a little longer than they were. Kay ordered the Mediterranean Trio, a hearty platter of an appetizer that includes hummus, spinach/artichoke dip, grilled pita triangles, and an assortment of olives. The pita bread alone was such a perfect balance betwixt pillowy and mildly crispy that they almost needed nothing to go with them. The nutty, thick, satisfying hummus only vaulted the pita bread to further heights. However, the spinach/artichoke dip, while acceptably gooey, was somewhat deflating with its seeming paucity in terms of seasoning; I didn't detect any salt, let alone garlic, something I know can make the dish wail like Uli Jon Roth. We also ordered a sextet of garlic parmesan wings that astounded us with golden, brittle, aromatic hides that garbed some of the most lovingly lardy and 'licious (hey, what would Chuck Berry do? eh?) poultry I've ever had aside from Frisch's, which might was well be a galaxy away in Whitehall. We were asked if we wanted some cheesecake for dessert, but with plans in mind to head down the road to Sinful Sweets, we politely declined. New Amsterdam epitomizes what urban living can and should be. Not exceedingly voguish and never roguish, all but the most fatuous guttersnipes will enjoy themselves here. P.S. Why do mere soft drinks, my choice of carbonated beverage being Sprite, taste so much better to me in bars? Perhaps it was the heavy, transparent glass that was colder than winter and teary with condensation or the fact that I work too hard in an environment that is far more inhospitable than I deserve. Having mentioned that, I didn't feel out of place in my soiled jeans and pocket t-shirt, demonstrating NA's liberal atmosphere yet again. P.P.S. If I was a much younger single man, I'd be in love with the two waitresses/barmaids, who would probably just think I'm a nice guy. And I still am. Too much so for my own good so I've been told on occasion. I hope their special someones treat them like special someones if they in fact have special someones.

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

Decor was impeccable, service was top notch, and the food was solid. Wasn't the biggest fan of the…read moreseasoning of the half chicken, but the cook on the chicken was perfect. Really liked this spot. The staff was great, the location was central, and its very upper crust. Great place for date night, drinks, and fellowship. I definitely will need to try another dish on my next visit.
