Well, it was my first time eating here. I will not be back. The host was great...we were seated very fast and our order was taken fast. The burger I ordered was perfect but the service. Argh!! Heather, our waitress, had to be reminded to bring us a few extra napkins and my BBQ sauce! Then my pop was almost gone and I had to flag down another waitress to get a refill. Classic diner style restaurant. Stopped here for brunch yesterday, has all the type of foods you'd expect. I wasn't super hungry so just got a bagel, but they do have a very affordable drink menu. I got a pretty big margarita for only $5. Can't beat that. The whole food menu is pretty affordable. My friend got pancakes and they looked good. No parking lot, but it's very easy to just park on Archer. Sunday brunch might be the busiest time, so just be aware if you're trying to go with a big group. I live nearby so would definitely be down to go back and get a full meal next time. read more

We were seated right away at New Archview and our beverages were brought quickly because we exuded menace. The brunch rush followed us and we beat the line. Victory! HA! We crushed them. The menu is typical of these joints: Lots of choices but nothing really outstanding. The food quality is good but you're not getting a complex work of art crafted for your palate. More like: Food! Now! I had a gyro and feta omelette that was fine. The rye bread was really good. Service was fine from host to waitress to busser. Bathroom had air dryer instead of cheap, hygienic, brown paper towels. These places do high volume but the prices seemed a little steep for the quality. I imagine the owner wanted to buy a bigger summer cottage in Door County. There's really not much on this stretch of Archer, so I guess if you are shopping in the deserted strip mall it's a fine option to fill your stomach. Or if you crave diner food. This review is harsher than the sentiment I feel for New Archview. Perhaps I harbor resentment for its supplanting of the old Archview. The new place is very clean and pleasant. I didn't realize that this restaurant is the "New Archview" until I went to write this review. For around 40 years it has been just plain, old "Archview" Restaurant to me. Also, I didn't realize that I probably hadn't been here in 20 years - - until I gave it some thought - - as I was writing this review. And as I gave it some thought, it truly has earned the "New". It is bright and fresh inside. There is now patio seating outside. We were greeted by the gentleman behind the cash register (appeared to be manager/owner) and seated by a nice young man. Tina, our waitress, was attentive, efficient and pleasant. I decided on the patty melt, which came with a cup of soup. Fries are extra--I don't always eat them anyway--so, "No, thank you". I got the cream of chicken soup and it was very good AND filling! It came with packages of crackers and two rolls that were individually wrapped. I have never seen wrapped dinner rolls before and I am very impressed! I didn't have to worry about who might have pawed my rolls, plus I could transport them with ease and enjoy them at home later. The patty melt was not quite the best I ever had, but it was pretty good. Because the soup was so filling, I took half a sandwich home. I was once again impressed, when Tina brought a plastic bag along with the to-go container. It is nice to have my needs anticipated! My friend had the gyro and feta omelet along with rye bread toast. We both thought the rye bread was very good. The only thing that could have been improved is the ladies restroom. The two stalls seemed small, even the one that is supposedly the handicap one. What's there to look for in a diner? Not service. The food was mediocre. The waitress was sour and only friendly to the regular cops who eat there. I feel so out of place eating there with my date. I'm not sure if I have been spoiled about eating out in other diners but food that I ordered will usually get placed right in my face instead of at the edge of the table where I had to scoot to get it. The "good" thing about eating here is the appetizers are doable. They're really average for the average price. For one of the old fashioned joints, this place has it going on. With its vintage (dare I say 70's) look, it has one of the best mashed potatoes (yes I said it) and gravy I have had in a long time. This place was so good we ate here twice while visit Chicago! It was actually our last stop on our way back home. My son didn't like the waffle he had gotten and the server was so sweet, she offered him a Mickey mouse pancake! He gladly agreed and she had it out in no time. The atmosphere is just so homey! I have been going to Archview for years. I was with my coworker who is gluten and grain free. She asked about the oil used to fry the fries as even corn oil bothers her. The Waitress went to ask and the Chef brought out the side of the box that the oil comes in to reassure her it was Soy Oil. I was quite impressed by this. Such a Nice Thing to do for a Customer! They've changed hours and the menu and food. I've been dining here on a weekly basis for years usually for dinner with my family. Sometimes more than once a week. They remodeled and now close at 3 pm week days and 4 pm on weekends. That makes it impossible to make it for dinner but today I stopped in with my family. I was disappointed that their new menu is a fraction of what it was. No longer do they offer roast turkey with stuffing or country fried steak. I had breaded pork tenderloin which was like a breaded ground pork it was not good. My daughter had meatloaf which she says was not very good and nothing like it used to be. Our party also ordered burgers they were good but the fries are different and were served cold. It looks pretty but I found the food disappointing I miss the old menu. After recently remodeling this place is our go to for quick, affordable and tasty breakfast. Large cups of coffee and delightful staff. We bring the kids here and they always have crayons and coloring paper on standby. They have also added a great outdoor patio. My go to here is the Denver omelette. read more

The restaurant has potential but they need to get it together or it'd become the same random breakfast spot you go to when your preferred restaurants are closed/booked and you have nothing better than to choose The New Archview Restaurant. I have been here 4 times since renewed and all though the servers are very friendly, the actual service lacks consistency and customer care. From providing water to getting your order right. I have ordered the same option twice and each time it was different (tasty, but different) the refried beans for the chilaquiles are also great but there is an obvious miscommunication with the cooks and sometimes they come blended (boo!) sometimes whole, and sometimes semi-smashed. This has genuinely disappointed in a way that I continue to hope for a better experience every time I go, but sometimes is always off. We actually tried to go to Pocho's (somewhat across the street - and extremely great!) but they were closed. Our best bet was to simple move here due to time restrictions. And again, something is making this restaurant not succeed with the potential it actually has. Hope for a better experience next time! read more

We were seated, waitress came over and placed our sprite orders that had tiny orange things inside of our drinks, took them out but didn't know what they were exactly. My husband & I were eating lunch when all of a sudden we heard a loud woman's voice saying " you got a problem with me? Come over here then ." A manager or whoever she was, was talking to her bus boy like this which was totally unprofessional in front of the customers. The pricest seem to have gone up a bit, but thats understandable, everything in this world has gone up on prices. But when the food arrived I understood why the prices went up. The portions have doubled. I had the breaded veal cutlet, and it was just as good as it was 5 years ago. You get 2 big pieces of veal and your choice of potatoe and soup. But they also have the dinner special, for $2.50 more you get soup and salad, desert and vegetables. I think that was a great deal. The waitresses are always a lovely bunch too. Their as real as it gets.Once in awhile youll get one thats having a bad day. But usually their very friendly and quite funny as well. I would definitely come here more often now. read more
