I came with friends to have dinner. We had a variety of dishes. All of our dishes were very flavorful and quite delicious. The rice came out first then we started with the braised tofu and bok choy. Next came the fragrant eggplant. It was tender and the sauce complimented the vegetable. The Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce was delish. The best dish of the night was the beef flat noodles. I have had this dish at other restaurants and tonight's version had an excellent flavor. The beef was velvetized and so tender. Service was great. Our server was very nice and helpful. The ambience is always pleasant. I was happy to see the restaurant with many customers and I saw many people pick up several take out orders. Food was super good tonight! This place exceeded my expectations from start to finish. The atmosphere was really comfortable and welcoming, and I loved looking around while we waited. They even had cute little keychains for sale, which was such a fun touch. The staff were kind, attentive, and made the whole experience feel enjoyable without being overbearing. The highlight, though, was the Peking duck. We ordered the whole duck, and the portion was huge. There was more than enough to share, and every bite was packed with flavor. It was crispy, tender, and easily some of the best Peking duck I've ever had. Everything about the visit made me want to come back. Great food, friendly service, and a really pleasant atmosphere. We finally tried new Asia that is under a new owner. Honestly, I was not impressed one bit. They served us the roasted duck that was still raw in the middle. The food was mediocre. For the price they are charging I expect it to be at least decent. Service was even worst than the last management. The servers absolutely have no personality and don't seem to care. We've ordered quite a bit of food: pea plant with garlic, pan fried noodles, roasted duck, mopo tofu, jajangmyeon, fish. And none were great. At least the previous owner's food tasted way better. New Asia is my most favorite Chinese restaurant in Memphis! It's a small family owned business so I love helping support small businesses :) Having dined at this location for more than a decade, I've tried more than 80% of the menu items. The food is extremely tasty and super consistent, I have no clue how they keep the quality so high so often. The top dishes for me are the minced chicken & lettuce, Jade Tofu, and Squid with spicy salt. One really nice aspect is that we can come here for large family gatherings since the large round tables can fit up to 12 people, so reserving ahead we can have 2 large round tables for large groups of 20+. Now that I'm back in the area I've started back visiting this restaurant. The food is consistent as well as service. My order is always correct and plenty of food for leftovers when I order. I stick to the basics: fried rice, moo goo Gai pan, lo mein etc. I have yet to venture to the authentic menu, but I've heard and read great things about the authentic menu. My parents are fans of another popular spot, but I brought them an order of vegetable fried rice and well I think I sold them on it! Masks are worn by patrons until seated. Last week they had a sign with mask required however I didn't see that sign on this visit unless I just missed it. Absolutely amazing. I'm from Atlanta, where there is great Chinese food, but this place is definitely a cut above the rest. They roast the ducks in house (but still juicy and crisp, which is hard to find in most places), they make their own kkakdugi (), a very clean and satisfying seafood jjampong ()(very generous with the seafood!), fragrant roasted snow pea leaves with garlic, and we tried out a Maggi beef dish and... Pretty good. I knew it was going to be good when I saw Asian families dining in. I had general tso tofu. I'd like it to be firmer tofu but it was tasty. Fried rice and lo mein both were flavorful and prepared with quality ingredients. Scallion pancakes and spring tools kind of greasy but can easily be solved by using paper towel to absorb the oil. Yes, yes, yes. As mentioned elsewhere, use the authentic Chinese menu. The "chicken with bone AND skin" (they always have a hint of disbelief in their voice when a clearly Caucasian person isn't scared off by the 'AND SKIN?' part) is fantastic. Texture, taste, sauce, juiciness, itself there. The soy based sauce adds a depth to this dish that is, while not overpowering, a compliment to whatever else is in the chicken. Play around with the menu, so long as you're open-minded and willing to explore fare that you probably wouldn't be able to find anywhere else in Memphis (other than Asian Palace). Now, my usual tirade about overly critical one star reviews. They don't address the food. It's always about staffing or management issues. And herein lies the rub: this is an authentic Chinese place, not PF Chang's. Some things are going to get lost in translation because of cultural differences. So cut them some slack...the food is certainly worth it. read more

Came here for a Chinese birthday. It's been a few years since I've been here. Service of food was fast and prompt and I'm sure the party put in their order ahead of time. We might have had around 15 dishes total. With me being very experienced in the consumption of authentic Cantonese-style Chinese food, there was something slightly off with about 90% of the dishes. Some examples include way too much and way too thick sauce in the stir fry lobster, the roast pork cut too thin and the skin not being crispy (not freshly made), the roast duck not having crispy skin and also being old, the calamari having the wrong type of batter used to be fried and also slightly soggy. The salt chicken being bland. Those are just to name a few. The overall taste of every dish was passable but not one dish I would say that I would return for. The reason for this rating is the woman behind the counter taking orders and payment. She is horribly rude. She was not only awful with me, but also with the elderly woman who placed her order before me. She loudly scolded her and argued with her for wanting to leave the pork out of her dish. There's no need to be rude, and she was so loud that the tables near the door turned to stare. I could tell the woman was embarrassed to have the attention of the other patrons. The only reason I came here is because East Meets West was closed, which not only has superior food, but the people who run it are actually nice. Nothing says comfort food like Peking Pork Spareribs (京都肉) and Roast Duck (烧鸭) for this Cantonese-American boy. A staple for the Mid-South Chinese community, New Asia frequently remains a birthday or wedding reception destination that will sometimes take over almost the whole restaurant (so you might find yourself crashing one any given night haha). But don't worry, they usually save a couple of booths for other diners as well. As such whenever we come back to Memphis, this place has been my family's 901 gathering spot for years and for good reason too. But don't let nostalgia fool you, the food is quite delicious and service what would be expected of a proper Chinese restaurant (i.e hustling and brusque). Also, please don't bother looking for upscaled Chinese-American or fusion cuisine here, instead do yourself a solid and try some authentic Cantonese dishes that delivers on flavor and tradition. My recommendations include the Peking spare ribs, roast duck, lettuce wraps, "fish-fragrant" eggplant, walnut shrimp, and Chinese mustard greens. But be adventurous, friends! Fair warning, I've heard some ugly things about the treatment of customers, and from my own experience, the waitstaff is a little rude and... dare I say sketchy? That being said, the Chinese menu is awesome! The food is all excellent, fresh, and it's a proper surprising gem in the middle of Germantown. I would avoid taking huge groups here, but a table of people should be more than pleased with the food. We tried the thick house noodles, they were absolutely incredible, and I could've sat there and eaten them til dawn if calories didn't matter, lol! The second description is what I got and what it was worth. I chose something a bit more expensive because I wanted to be impressed. What I got was not impressive at all. I thought the price would be reflected by the shrimp and scallops. Shrimp were ok. Scallops were just bits and pieces. Not many of them either. The dish was not spicy AT All, although it was advertised to be. I could have fed it to my two year old after it cooled down. The quantity was not worth the price either. I couldn't leave hungry, because of the huge bowl of rice I was given, but the main dish was a small portion. The strangest thing though. When the server brought it to me, she poured it out onto a hot iron dish to make it "sizzle", but what was strange was that she did it away from me, with her back toward me to purposely prevent me from seeing what she was doing. If presentation is something of their style, she couldn't have done a worse job of it. And the iron dish was so small that the food was falling off of it all onto the table.
