Wow! My lucky day. Looked forward to stopping in New Balance on Rt.17South to replace my worn shoes. I'm very particular in simple basic black running shoe, which I learned has been discontinued. Never knew this store existed until I had to return an online order. It is easy to pass as it's nestled in a tiny shopping plaza by route 17, but not hard to find. I was surprised by the full selection of men's and women's sneakers, and they also sell apparel. Customer service was great in answering questions and assisting me with my online return. I'm going to echo the sentiment of Mike H's review and also raise concerns about sales associates in running shoe stores that obviously don't run. I'm an underpronator, have a medium arch, and forefoot strike with each stride. I'm also 6'0" tall. Any sales associate worth their salt would immediately recognize that I'd need a pair of shoes that offer cushion and support. I currently own a pair of NB 880's, and was in the market for the exact model or something comparable. They did have the 1080 and 1064, but both shoes were a little high in price for my liking. I visit my parents in Jersey several times a year and was planning on leaving a pair of running shoes at their place so that I don't have to worry about packing a pair every time I travel. Out of luck, the associate suggested that I try Sports Authority for less expensive options. I took him up on his suggestion and found a pair of NB 790's for $50. Nice. What's odd is that Sports Authority had just as good a selection as the actual New Balance store. So this begs the question, "Why don't people just shop at Sports Authority instead?" Confused as to why I couldn't exchange a pair of new balance I got as a gift that didn't fit for a different size. I didn't have a receipt but I just wanted to exchange and would have paid the difference. They had the same model number shoe in a different color way in the store. I have a wide foot, and that means it is next to impossible to buy sneakers or shoes in a store as many no longer carry wide shoes. After receiving a mailing from New Balance I saw there was a store about 45 minutes away. I called and asked they had a large selection of women walking sneakers in 8.5 Wide. I was told yes. I went into the store and there is a large selection of sneakers and a lot of help-that ignore you. I guess its to hard to say something like 'someone will be with you in a little bit' I picked out 2 sneakers and waited. A person came over to help me and insisted on measuring my foot. I explained to her that I have been wearing New Balance for over 20 years and my size has not changed. I wanted the 2 sneakers I picked out in 8.5 W even though she insisted that is not my foot size... sighhhhhh Needless to say, the sneakers I wanted were not available in my size, they were out of stock, but they had them in different colors and different sizes. Really?? Really??? I call to make sure you have what I want, I drive 45 freaking minutes to your store to be ignored, told my foot was a different size from what I have been wearing comfortably and using and then have what I asked for out of stock.. #Foregetaboutit read more

I have been buying my sneakers here for many years. The drive is worth the service and selection, which is always excellent. However, after spending $129 on a pair of sneakers offer me a bag! Don't alienate people, free bags for clothing and shoes have not been banned in NJ. Maybe next time I'll just order a bunch online and get free shipping and return what I don't want. It takes years to get a customer and seconds to loose one! Penny wise and pound foolish. At least have a stash of bags for customers who request one. My sister had purchased new sneakers for my mother which didn't fit. we showed up with our box and receipt, and the salesperson was so kind and patient with my 86 year old mother. He measured her foot, kept going back to find a slightly different size, and kept helping her until she finally got a pair that seemed right to her. I wear New Balance because I have narrow feet ... and I shop here because their service has been uniformly outstanding. I've comparison-shopped a few New Balance online stores, plus my local brick-and-mortar NB outlet. NBNJ's prices are consistently at least as low as anyone else's, and they ship FAST. More than once, I've ordered online - with the shipping free - and received the shoes the very next day! (I'm not in NJ, but in a nearby state.) Never will I ever buy new balance online. I will only go to this store!! First of all, I enter and I was surprised at how many employees there were for such a small store. All of them were doing more than just getting a size for the customers, they were having consultations with them. I was waiting for someone to help me so I overheard the different convos. Many customers were getting very personal with the employees regarding their foot concerns. The employees were so attentive to the customers and made recommendations and sat next to them, helped them with fitting the shoe, etc. The person that helped me out was CHRIS... I went in to get a specific shoe for my son that was recommended by his doctor. Chris educated me on the shoe and shoes overall. He showed me how to spot a quality shoe. He educated me soooo well and spent so much time with me. I have never had such amazing customer service from a sneaker store! I will continue spending my money here! read more

In May I bought a pair of golf shoes ($119.00) from the NB store in Hasbrouck Hghts. In October after maybe 8-10 uses the sole separated from one of the shoes. Keep in mind these are golf shoes worn only for golf. I returned to the store with my receipt. The store refused to replace the shoes or even give me a discount on another pair. They did give me an 800 number for New Balance. Liking the shoes otherwise, I bought another pair figuring the company would back their product. Well......... The company requested a copy of the receipt and photos of both shoes to be sent online. I did that. Two weeks later I get an email they didn't receive the pics. I call the company. They told me to re-send it. I did. Two weeks later, same thing. I call again. I ask the rep if I can send receipt and pics via regular mail. Nope, it's not their policy. Now a little miffed, I told the rep the fact that they were only 5 months old and worn less than 10 times they should reimburse me regardless of the photos. The rep gets his supervisor who says it's not their procedure. Now I'm a disgruntled customer. The rep says I'll speak again with my supervisor. I'm on hold for 10 minutes and then disconnected. No callback. New Balance is a slipshod company for not backing their product and the Heights store lost a customer in particular. Too bad. I wore their shoes for work, the gym and golf. Hello Asics! This was my first visit to a New Balance Store. After walking in I was greeted by Maria and asked if she could help. This took me by surprise. I've seen people walk into other stores and get ignored. Maria actually took several minutes discussing my needs as per doctors orders before measuring my feet. Then came out with 3 different pairs of shoes. Again she spent time with me explaining the differences between all of them. Normally I would have gotten them online , but I would have missed out on the excellent customer service. This is the worst shoe store I have ever been to. The employees are nice, but they wear a mixture of plain clothes and NB shirts so you don't know who does or doesn't work there and they take at least 10 mins to get any shoe you would need. I've never been in there where I haven't heard someone complain about how long it's taking to get their shoes after asking someone for what they needed. They always seem too busy to give the attention needed. This store is consistently chaotic. I needed a size they didn't have so they went to order it for me. After one week they called me that the shoe came in, I went to go pick it up and it was the wrong shoe. They ordered me a new pair, after another week I go to pick it up and it was the wrong shoe AGAIN. The Owner(?) goes to try and order it again and says that the company won't ship it to him and that he doesn't have access to it after TWO WEEKS of trying to get this done. The owner does not say, "let's find you a new shoe I'll take care of you for the trouble you've experienced". Just tells me I need to go to a different store. So I went to a different store in NYC got the shoe I needed but ultimately didn't care for the shoe quality so I went to return the shoe from NYC to this Hasbrouck Heights store and they refused my return even though both are New Balance stores. They said this store is a franchise whereas the NYC one was not so they won't take it. Nothing but frustrations at this store. STAY AWAY!! read more

The saleswoman who assisted me today was incredibly patient and courteous. I use an orthotic and she helped me remove the insoles, and fetched shoes in every size (4E, 2E, 10, 10.5) and color. OK, there's no other way to put this - I have problem feet. I have always had terrible difficulty finding comfortable shoes - even when I was young (which I am not any more). Now I have arthritis in my toe joints to compound things. Well, I have been advised to improve my health by walking - at least an hour a day, more if I can. So I have been briskly walking 1 - 1 1/2 hours a day. And I needed new sneakers. I did not look forward to this since buying shoes has always been a traumatic experience. I spent an hour yesterday with Larry at New Balance in Hasbrouck Heights. It was a revelation. He was infinitely patient, first listening to my needs and then trying at least 30 pairs of sneakers on me, honing in on the exactly right sneaker for my feet and use. I have never had a shopping experience like this, never imagined it. The store was crowded since it was a Saturday afternoon, but there were hoards of sales associates and no one seemed to have to wait. I especially appreciated that Larry (who is the owner) realized that I had a special need and waited on me himself. That seemed to be the attitude of everyone working in the store. I spoke to several sales associates while I was walking around and then while I was paying and they all seemed to be knowledgeable and concerned that the customers wind up with the right shoe. read more

Larry was helpful on the phone and told me the sneakers I wanted were in stock. So I drove thirty minutes to his store and when I got there he tried the ol' bait and switch. He wanted me to try on a different pair so he could order the other pair I wanted and ship it to me. I could've done that myself online for less money and saved myself the hour round trip. Unorganized mad house with multiple dogs walking around. Yes I am describing New Balance shoe store. Upon entering this confusing madhouse of people I realized unless I had a bull horn, I was not going to be served. I decided to look for the sneakers I wanted and make the best of it. Watching the dogs walk all over was a problem. Not bc the were dogs but I am so afraid of falling and having to watch for low moving dogs in this unorganized mess was not a pleasurable experience. The final straw was the mop in the corner with the cleansing cloth on it. It was confidently placed so when the dogs did what dogs do they could mop it up continuously. No thank you. I will pay extra and get the exact sneakers on amazon. Good job New Balance. Do not publicly condemn Amazon for taking ur business. U did that all on ur own. read more

We were very happy with the service (our salesperson was Marco) and the wide variety of products. My husband is having problems with heel spurs and has a wide foot and we felt that Marco totally addressed his needs, was personable, and efficient. I would highly recommend Larry and his team of associates. I bought a pair of expensive New Balance running shoes in April this year and they began to hurt my feet in July. I called the store, Larry asked me to come in and he had me try on several other pairs, and recommended others to be on the safe side.
