After reading all these 5-star reviews, I definitely had my suspicions... How could ALL these customers be 100% satisfied?? But I still decided to give this place a try because it seemed like a small, local business I could support. When I called to set up an appointment, the phone went to voicemail. I left a voicemail saying I wanted to set up a grooming appointment. That evening, I received a call from the owner! I was able to set up an appointment for the next week right away. However, I do believe they are usually booked out, so I recommend calling them about a week or two ahead to set up your appointment. The owner (Rie, I believe) was very helpful and friendly. She gave me her cell phone number to text her what kind of a haircut I wanted. She told me it would be her employee (Maya) that cuts my dog's hair since she was completely booked for a while, and I told her I was pretty particular about her haircut and not that many groomers could get what I wanted. She explained to me about Maya's credentials so I decided to give Maya a try (and I don't regret it at all!!). Parking for this salon is super easy and free. You can park in the Waialae Parking Lot and they have a 20-minute grace period! Meter parking is also available on the perimeter of the block! I dropped my dog off at 2:30 PM but I had to explain to them that I had a work meeting until 5:30 PM and should be able to come pick up my dog at 6 PM at the latest, which was AFTER their closing time. They understood and told me not to worry. However, my meeting ended up taking longer than expected and I was able to get to the salon at about 6:30 PM. I felt HORRIBLE. When I finally arrived to pick up my dog, Rie and Maya were both waiting for me, and watching after my dog. They were so so soooo sweet and understanding about my situation. They explained to me how great my dog was during her haircut. And when I saw my dog, I was absolutely 100% satisfied with her cut. She looked clean and even all around. This cut was exactly what I was looking for and they EXACTLY knew what they were doing! I believe Rie, the owner, is a great mentor to her employees. Her customer service is superb and her grooming skill is off the charts! I have never been so satisfied with a groomer before. Please come support this local business. I kind of feel like finding the right groomer for our dogs, is like finding the right hairdresser or barber for ourselves. We ( humans ), will search high and low until we find someone we trust with our hair.... Our fur babies deserve the same. We have gone to a few different places for our pups. Petsmart, Petco, Live,love Pet, and somewhere in Pearl City that was so so... I was okay with Live love Pet, our last groomers, but slowly fell out of love with them. Chloe our mini daschund just made 11, and Sumi our terrier mix just turned 9 and it was long overdue for a grooming visit. They were still traumatized from their last visit with the above mentioned groomers, so I needed to wait a bit until making their appointment. Made an appointment for both of them here, and I just felt at ease at drop off. Their appointment was at 8:30 and I got the call to pick them up at 11:30. 3 hours for 2 dogs, full bath and grooming, with anal glands, nail trim, ear cleaning and sweet smelling teeth! I was not expecting their appointment to take only 3 hours, as the previous place said 6 -7 hours is normal, but I realized at pick up that they do not overbook, and really spend one on one time with your puppers. When I picked them up, they were happy to see me- but not desperate to get out of there. There was another small Pomeranian pup that they were hanging out with. The summer cut looks good on both of them, and it definitely helps me feel better at night when they are sleeping on me! read more

They did an amazing job on my standard poodle Luna! She was extremely detailed, and her crazy curly hair is incredibly soft now. We added another pup to our Ohana. I never had a Pomeranian before but I read up on grooming styles. I called to book an appointment for both pups and mentioned Kea the Pom. The owner graciously spoke to me at length about cuts, styles and some issues that can happen with grooming Poms. I chose mostly scissor cut to keep her coat more traditional. Gigi had another been a client for a year and now Kea will be joining her sister on grooming visits. My 16 year old Yorkie became very anxious during grooming and his regular groomer didn't want to groom him anymore. Thank goodness my friend, who is very happy with this salon, had inquired whether they would accept difficult dogs and thankfully Ami at the salon accepted him. I was so amazed that Ami didn't put a muzzle on him and was able to calm him down. Not only did she give him a great haircut, but cut his nails which were the hardest to clip as he has gotten older. Thank you Ami for accepting him especially since I couldn't find any other salon that would accept him. Parking was easy, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. New Breeze Dog Salon - I'll say Big Mahalo to Yelp for this little gem! We'd been searching for a new groomer for well over a year. An unfortunate experience with a groomer in Kilohana Square had Ipo, our Bichon mix quaking every time she went to the groomer. As a dog with hair, not fur Ipo needs to be groomed very four to six weeks and she was miserable every four to six weeks. We went through several groomers during this time and the best we came up with was, "lesser of two evils". The experiences were okay, better is some ways, not as much in others, but they were always something lacking ... plus Ipo was never really thrilled with any of them. Tolerant is the word that comes to mind. Then, I came across New Breeze Dog Salon. Located in Kaimuki off Waialae Avenue and in between 11th and 12th Avenues, this is the same place you'll find Big City Diner, Himalayan Kitchen, Angelo Pietro's, The Movie Museum, and many, many other quality establishments. Parking can be a little challenging, depending on the time of day because people flock to the aforementioned quality establishments at mealtimes. It's a municipal lot with a 20 minute grace period or free parking for E-Vehicles. Malika was Ipo's stylist and we and spent about half an hour familiarizing ourselves with each other. We explained that Ipo has juvenile cataracts and has been mostly blind her whole life. Malika made sure Ipo was not only comfortable in her surroundings but confident as well. It would be longer than the usual couple of hours for Ipo's appointment. As Malika explained, on the first visit she usually takes longer so that she can gain the trust of the animals she grooms. We were offered the option to stay and watch or drop back in from time to time to just check. We (and I'm including Ipo and FPO in this) were all reassured by this approach. And when we went back? Ipo wasn't quite finished but she was calm and relaxed. Didn't even seem to care that I'd returned, which was equal parts reassuring and disconcerting. I loved the cut. Malika did exactly as we'd asked. I made another appointment on the spot. I hope New Breeze stays in business for years to come because I don't want to have to explain to Ipo or FPO if we need to find another groomer. read more

Today was Gizmo's spa day at New Breeze Dog Salon. This was his first visit there and he was very excited. First off you can either park in the pay lot or on street parking. During lunch and early dinner parking is a little more difficult. You have to enter from the back and you enter in to a quaint business. One of the things I liked about New Breeze is that the grooming is done in the open for everyone to see. Also Malika took her time to ask questions about Gizmo. After the Q and A with Malika, she gave a couple of suggestions about how Gizmo should be groomed. I liked her suggestions and picked what she felt was the best for him. I left and returned home expecting her call back in 3 hours. Gizmo's hair was a matted around his feet and he had extremely long nails so I assumed she would be taking the whole 3 hours. She called a half hour early and said Gizmo was ready. I wasn't able to arrive until the third hour but on my return Gizmo looked happy running around the office as Malika did her office work. Gizmo also looked wonderful. He has been to two other groomers but Malika has been the best. Not only did he look good, he smelt like candy. I had to wait 2 and half months for my appointment since this was our first but it was well worth the wait. I already made Gizmo's appointment for his next spa day. read more

I say quaint because there are 2 wicker chairs right outside the doors that has shade if you wish to wait. It's located in the Waialae Ave parking lot right next to First Hawaiian Bank. So grateful to have found this dog salon a couple years ago or so in an advertisement. Rie is such an awesome groomer and person! How do I know this? Because my dog, Murf, LOVES it here. As soon as we arrive, he already knows where he's heading. He happily struts in and doesn't look back. Murf has never looked so happy to go get groomed....ever! Usually he's crying or clawing at me to stay with him. This salon is located off of 12th Ave and Waialae Ave. It's a gated paid parking lot, but they give you some leeway for free parking. It's enough time to park, drop off/pick up your dog(s). TIP: Appointments have been getting a little bit more difficult for Saturdays because they are that awesome! This place is amazing! I took Boscoe here for the first time and he was so happy! The two ladies really pampered my dog. He got a bath. They cleaned his teeth, ears, and anal glands. And, they also cut and files his nails. When I picked him up, he smelled so good and looked so clean. This place is really popular so I made the appointment 2 months in advance. The wait was well worth it. All of the dogs there look so happy like they all enjoy being there! New Breeze is the greatest grooming salon. It is a small retail operation on Waialae in Kaimuki, next to what uses to be Ka Lei Eggs. You can't enter via Waialae, you have to enter through the back entrance from the parking lot behind. We've been coming here for over 5 years. My dog loves and adores aunty Ria. So much that whenever we pick him up, there he is just curled up on the floor next to her as she works. He is so well-behaved with her that he doesn't need to stay in a kennel. Amazing! She has the Magical touch... err, cut. She does fantastic work and competitive prices. And the best part... she really loves what she does and cares for the animals... I've taken my baby boy to other groomers, where he has come home anxious and almost terrified. Here, he feels like home, and that to me is priceless. Here's the breakdown - PROS: Private parking lot, with grace period of 15 minutes = free parking for drop offs and pick ups. Quality groomer whom genuinely cares offering competitive pricing. A cute picture of your pup is texted to you upon completion of grooming. CONS: Ria has gotten busier because she is as good as it gets. So, NOT A BAD CON TO HAVE... just need to book your appointment further in advance than usual. Bottom line: We love and adore Ria! I brought my labradoodle to get groomed and the owner Malika gave him his haircut. She let me stay and watch and she was incredibly meticulous and gentle with him. She gave me lots of grooming tips and I could see that it was important for her to give him the perfect haircut. We were the last clients of the day (on a holiday) and she didn't rush the process to get out of there at all. My dog ended up looking exactly how I wanted and he was much cooler with his summer cut! Rie and Ikuku are great. This place is really nice. It doesn't have the slightest smell of doggy odor. It's very clean and has friendly atmosphere. We like to save money and clip our dogs' nails at home but it is a lengthy and rather stressful process for all involved! We decided to try to get them done and called New Breeze. Luckily, they had an opening and told us to come right in. (It is recommended to make an appointment- especially for grooming!) New Breeze is right off Waialae and your best bet is to park in the ticket lot behind First Hawaiian Bank or the metered lot across the street. It is a tiny little place but full of love. Rie is very sweet and so is her daughter. They were both SO excited to see our Italian Greyhounds as they used to have one of their own. Their caring and patient attitude was perfect for my dogs and Rie crooned at them, let them lick her and talked with them while she was clipping their nails. I'm happy with the one and only service I purchased there. My min pin/Chihuahua needed her nails trimmed. They were very long and she's so afraid to have them done. The people there were patient and sweet. They also filed them down so that her nails didn't scratch me afterward. I didn't have to wait at all but the lady did suggest that the next time, I may want to call ahead (just to ensure they have an opening). Parking is kind of weird because you have to pay at the booth before you exit. I believe it was one dollar with validation. read more

Stumbled upon New Breeze when I was in Kaimuki a couple months ago. I walked in to get a price list & Rie was welcoming and friendly. I remembered her when my Maltese needed a haircut, and I'm glad I've finally found someone that I trust to take care of my dog. I will never take my dog elsewhere. The last time I took my dog to another groomer, that groomer put my dog on the grooming table w/out putting the leash on her and then turned away. My dog jumped off the grooming table twice because the groomer was careless. I had to ask her to put the leash on my dog. Rie is attentive, professional and caring. You just know that she loves dogs. When Rie is grooming a dog for the first time, she doesn't have another dog in the salon because that might cause anxiety for the new dog. My dog was rescued from the Waimanalo puppy mill last year and still has a lot of anxiety. She normally doesn't feel comfortable with new people. By the time she was ready to be picked up after the grooming, she loved Rie. Conveniently located in Kaimuki (near First Hawaiian Bank), there is a 20-minute grace period in the lot behind the salon. I LOVE New Breeze Dog Salon! I was very hesitant to take my little Bichon Frise anywhere. They are a very high maintenance breed, which requires a lot of personal time and care. I was recommended by my dog's original owner to go to New Breeze, and fell in love after the first visit (we've gone for numerous visits already). I am so grateful for New Breeze. Rie is so sweet and so is her daughter, who is often at the shop on Saturdays when I go in. You can see how much they love animals. My little bichon has grown to love Rie and her staff for the care they provide to him. I appreciate that they take so good care of him, that's all I really ever wanted. When I get him back he is happy, clean, and beautifully cut. There have even been times where my bichon was car sick and they would take all his messy toys/blanket and have it washed for me, no extra charge. How wonderful is that. They are worth every penny (It's not expensive for the level of care and service they provide). I live on the other side of the island, but will drive to Kaimuki for them. The owners are really friendly and did a great job with my pups. I have a boy and a girl both are red nose/Australian cattle heeler. I believe that monday they is the only day which they take pets 50lbs and up. Call ahead to book an appointment and don't be shock if you have to wait because this place is in high demand, but they do a great job. Rie the owner and dog groomer is very sweet and nice. She does a fantastic job in trimming my dogs nails. She is really popular and I can see why because she is gentle and really caring about animals. Unlike Petco. I used to get my dogs nail trimmed there and they do a shoddy job. Also, theyre probably there bc they need a job, not really truly care for your pets but Rie is different. Even my dog who has never met her, loved her despite the nail trim. My dog would tremble whenever staff from Petco would hold her but I love this place. I met Rie on the streets of Kaimuki. Her extremely young daughter noticed my dog and so cutely said, "Did you know my mom is a groomer?" I was sold. I had been in my mind asking to find the right groomer. I have been to 3 other dog salons now, this is my fourth. I have a shih tzu. I previously enjoyed seeing Beauty Salon for Doggies but now it is out my area that I am willing to travel. Rie is an excellent groomer. She is native Japanese but speaks EXCELLENT English so I can communicate with her well, unlike other groomers who have no idea what I am saying. Salon is located in Kaimuki just blocks from my house and it is not difficult to get in. The quality of the grooming is top notch and she always delivers exactly as I ask. With other dog salons (of which I will also post about) the person grooming my dog would change and it would freak out my dog, so Rie is consistent and reliable.
