I called to tell them they didn't give me noodles for either order and she said "chow mein is rice" and that it's the correct order... Definitely one of the weakest Chinese spots in the area, and I've had a LOT of Chinese takeout in Brooklyn. It's a problem. We ordered dumplings, an egg roll, and the sesame trio. The eggroll was ok, but the rest was disappointing. Delivery showed up about 25 minutes late, so the dumplings were dried out and the sesame dish was saucy mush meat. For a place called New China Tung, nothing tasted particularly new on my tongue. The freshest part of the order was probably the hair we found in the sesame sauce. read more

This joint is pretty standard stuff. There's one like it in nearly every neighborhood across this city, so you should know what you're getting: -Cheap, Americanized Chinese. -Quick take out or delivery. -[If you order correctly,] Non-organic meats covered in high-calorie, sugary sauces over your choice of starch. I do like that they give you options when you order on line (quart or pint, mild, medium or hot, etc.). And I would like to apologize again to all my friends for forgetting to order the dumplings. I am a huge fan of Chinese food, particularly orange chicken. I ordered takeout from New China a few weeks back, and it was honestly pretty sad. The orange chicken had almost no flavor, and the fried rice tasted really funky. I also had an eggroll, and unfortunately it was soggy and not tasty at all. I am going to skip on ordering from here again unless something seriously changes. read more

As far as Americanized Chinese food goes, it's not bad. Didn't taste too much MSG, though the sauces were very starchy. Crab rangoon was okay, and the scallops/broccoli was pretty decent. Delivery via Seamless was quick and you get a free soda. Pretty standard stuff. read more

Recently got delivery and it was okay - I ordered the lunch order of the Sweet and Sour chicken with the dumpling soup and an order of fried dumplings. The chicken was great but the dumplings were super doughy. Will most likely get the lunch special again but will pass on the dumplings. read more

Le sigh... I had, perhaps, too high hopes for this place after I read the reviews. I ordered the House Mei Fun (super thin rice noodles with veggies, shrimp, chicken, pork, fish, and scallions), mapo tofu (medium spicy), egg drop soup and hot and sour soup (spicy). The only thing I finished completely was the house mei fun and egg drop soup. Neither of the mapo tofu or the hot and sour soup had any spiciness to it- no kick at all!! Even more disappointing, the soup was so. watered. down! The egg drop soup was the right consistency with the nice, ribbon like pieces of egg in it, but tasted like someone put in an extra cup of tap water. The hot and sour soup was even worse and I couldn't stomach it, being that even the texture was much too watery and definitely left me wanting some of that hot and sour combo to satisfy my palate! read more

Food quality is very good and they always pay attention to my special requests, (ex. for the combo meals, I substitute Brown Pork Fried Rice and just pay $1 up-charge). My view is when you want to be picky, you either cook at home or you go for something that's not cheap. I do both, more often the former. Most of the time I have to act like a cheapskate (temporarily, I hope), I just want food, and I think first of New China Tung. I discovered it on foot--it's only about two blocks from where I live--and I've compared it to other inexpensive Chinese places nearby. For me, it's The One. My absolute favorite here is Singapore Chow Mei Fun. It meets the $8 delivery minimum, and it compares well with the version at Sammy's Noodles in the West Village, near which I used to live. Actually, it compares well with any version I've ever had. Shrimp, the bits of scrambled egg, bits of scallion and a couple of things I can't name, thin strips of roasted pork, mixed among the thin Mei Fun noodles. You get to choose the spice level. Yum! All of the Special Combination Plates meet the $8 delivery minimum, and they come with pork fried rice--my favorite--and an egg roll. It's two meals at one click. (All the Chinese dishes I've ordered here are good for two meals.) My standards are beef with broccoli (where I wish for more broccoli), chicken with garlic sauce, hot and spicy beef, General Tso's chicken, and Kung Pao chicken. All of them do the job. Among the American dishes, there are two I return to. The double cheeseburger with French fries is big and reliable; I usually want to give the fries a toasting in my broiler, which is true with other fries as well. (Despite the whole foodie movement, it seems like half of American fries are still made wrong, not fried long enough and probably not hot enough. Maybe it's only the cheap half, but please--French fries are not hard to do right.) For delivery, I add the hot and sour soup, which to me is good by any standard. My other American standby is the 1/2 fried chicken and French fries. I've had better chicken; the best was something called broasted chicken that I had down in Dallas, Texas. Among cheap NYC chicken, all I really like is Popeye's, but there's not one near my current residence. So I go for this, plus hot and sour soup and either a shrimp egg roll or a spring roll. I order from here at least twice a week & I dont understand why there are so many negative reviews. First of all this place has a huge menu & obviously not everything is going to be good. You cant expect that. Also you have to be smart about what you order. Just stick with the basic chinese fast food options. I recommend the fried chicken wings, orange chicken, general tso chicken, chicken lo mein, crab rangoon, singapore chow mein fun, egg drop soup and my boyfriend likes their cheeseburger as well. Im sure theres other menu items worth eating but honestly i just eat the same things every time. Staff is friendly & delivery is fast. My go-to place for delivery Chinese food! Delivery is fast, it is super cheap, and the food is GOOD!!!!! I like that they have a health conscious diet menu (or at least they claim it is) and usually get the broccoli and chicken with brown rice. Sometimes I'll even treat myself to a wonton soup which is also super delicious. My boyfriend always orders the general tsos combination plate which is enough food for 3 meals!!! (and comes with a soda, which we always seem to forgot and is a pleasant surprise when it arrives.) After trying a few other places in the 'hood they just can't compare. My go-to takeout place. I usually get the chicken with cashew nuts, sweet & sour chicken, or vegetable lo mein and it's always cheap, delicious, and delivered extra-fast. Definitely enough for two meals, or even three. They're great about substitutions too - I prefer vegetable fried rice over pork fried rice (the standard add-on to dinner specials), and they always substitute it without complaints or extra charges. I typically order cheese sticks to get to the delivery minimum on seamless (and because who doesn't love fried cheese) & those are good too. Word to the wise: I would caution against the chicken chow mein, but maybe that's just because I didn't know what to expect. read more

Whenever I move to a new apartment I try to find a decent Chinese food place that will be adequate enough in a bind but not gross enough to turn me off (I have made that mistake before and it is not pretty). I ordered the General Tso's lunch special, which took only 15 minutes to prepare, and it was quite tasty - it even had a small amount of cooked vegetables. The lunch special itself came with a free can of soda, which was a nice bonus. So, in short, this place is not the most amazing food in the world but will get the job done when you need it to. read more

I'm not sure what I was expecting. The delivery was fast, 20 minutes, the food was mediocre. I ordered the sweet and sour pork. I also got an order of fried dumplings because of Lucien's post. I usually get vegetable fried dumplings and shouldn't have strayed because I hate mystery meat. They were good enough that I finished the whole plate though. I was very disappointed with the sweet and sour pork because it was fried for way too long and was more like pork jerky. I called them up and told them. The woman on the phone apologized and suggested that I try the sweet and sour chicken instead. She sent me an order for free which got to me in less than 10 minutes. The sweet and sour chicken was ten times better. Overall the service was great, the food was edible, and I really felt like a valued customer even though this is the first time I've ever ordered from them. This is your standard Chinese take out joint, but kicked up a notch in terms of service. They're super friendly here. Just go with the crispy chicken. The wings or the 1/2 chicken. Delivery can always be hit or miss. The food quality with New China Tung was a let down though. Dumplings are super doughy which gives a chewy consistency. The Chicken dish I ordered seemed to have a sauce that had a slimy texture to it too. Overall the delivery was ordered and delivered in a timely manner but food was not so good so I would not order again. read more

finding the perfect local chinese delivery spot in park/south slope is like spending 4 hours on math homework to solve for x, only to find that it's one of those trick questions with no answer, there isn't an x, and then you remember you were always terrible at math and also are an adult with a job so why are you doing math homework? and also you remember you're starving and lazy and need dumplings and at least 4 other things STAT or you will eat your dog's homework. if none of that made any sense, you get me. the perfect chinese delivery establishment is a nonsensical myth. so we play the pros & cons list game and keep one place as the go-to for certain things, another place for other certain things, yet another for the more authentic Szechuan dishes, etc. we usually forget which things are better from which places but it's a learning process. unless you are really good at math and live around here in which case please spreadsheet that ish up and send to me. sooo here's my pros & cons list thus far for New China Tung: PROS: - super fast delivery - cheap - shrimp egg rolls (not that they're the best but they have them, and i dig that) - extensive "health/diet" menu (for when you want all the fried apps but still trying not to feel like a beached whale until the next morning) and these dishes are actually pretty yummy - shrimp dishes have more than the "really?" number of shrimp you get from most places - they have an extensive & varied menu in general incl. some Szechuan dishes like crispy salt & pepper shrimp - i like shrimp CONS: - delivery is SO fast that the delivery guy barely waits 30 seconds for you to open the door before getting back on his bike, even though you included instructions on Seamless about waiting please for a moment because you live on the 3rd floor of a building with a buzzer but no intercom and it takes you at least 30 seconds to get to the door even if you run immediately when you hear the doorbell (which is actually broken) - crispy noodles never come with soup even though it says on their menu that they are included. apparently you have to add them separately for 25 cents. - they apparently don't carry hot mustard packets, because even when you ask for it specifically in notes, none comes (but this did prompt me to buy a jar of good extra hot mustard to keep on hand at home which will probably improve my whole life so this one can double as a pro) - the soup isn't that great anyway. the wrappers of the wontons in the wonton soup are too thick, not the good delicate kind. - no chopsticks - fortune cookies not included; they charge 20 cents - Con theme: they're cheap, which was also a Pro...so now i give up. i'm carrying a cheat sheet to my next math class. read more

A waste of money. I grew up in in NYC and so I have eaten a lot of Americanized Chinese food in my lifetime. I can safely say that this is some of the WORST Chinese food I have eaten. The fried dumplings were inedible- they were pasty and chewy and did not have the nice crispy exterior that you come to expect from a fried dumpling. The dipping sauce was also nothing like the norm. The sesame chicken was basically just small chunks of fried breading-- hardly no meat at all and the garlic string beans were limp and tasteless. I didn't dare try the beef and vegetables. I found this place on yelp, read the reviews, and decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. The food tastes fresh, and is the best I've had in the area. I enjoy cheap Chinese food as much as the other guy. Most of those times is when I want something greasy and tasty. However, this place makes their food way too greasy. Beef lomein, chicken with broccoli, and general tso's chicken were all so greasy that I didn't even eat the left overs. They don't switch out white rice for brown rice and once they forgot to include the white rice that comes along with the entree. Definitely not the worst place, but far from being good. read more
