Deliciousness abounds at Noodle Lane. Daughter and I showed up for dinner around 7:30 pm or so. Place was packed but we were seated quickly at the last remaining table. Server was friendly and efficient. We started with drinks (wine and a lemonade), then started with pork dumplings (savory and hot) and cucumber salad (crunchy and lightly flavored). Mains were green beans (crisp, green and perfect garlic/salt flavoring!) and the fried noodles with chicken. Absolutely the perfect meal. Bonus: gelato for dessert down the street. The restaurant is small, bright and clean. We walked there, so didn't worry about street parking. We felt welcomed when we arrived and satisfied when we left. If I could give them 6 stars I would. Especially the servers Maycol and Zay. They are extremely professional and always attentive. They provided excellent service and the food was also wonderful. We had the chicken soup dumplings, pan fried chicken and celery dumplings, lo mein with chicken, pan fried noodles with chicken and it was spectacular. Super flavorful. The food was delicious we got - squid mala hotpot dry - pickled fish soup Szechuan style - crab and pork soup dumpling The soup dumplings were delicious with just the right amount of thickness for the skin wrappers - thin yet still strong enough to hold the soup and fillings. The squid mala dry hotpot we asked for it to be the least spicy since my partner can't eat spicy food. It was delicious but it was more sauce-y than usual for a dry pot dish. Their version is perfect for someone who likes this dish but can't eat spicy. The pickled fish soup was a miss for me. I was excited since it was the recommended dish. I did not like the garlic yellow soup mixed with peppercorn. There were also barely any pickled vegetables. The sour taste was good but paired strangely with the numbing peppercorn. I've loved Noodle Lane since Smorgasburg first opened, so glad they've got a restaurant now, so I can get their cold peanut noodles anytime of the year! The General Tso's and the Dan Dan noodles are also favorites for me. The servers are very friendly and it's a really nice, bright space with good energy. Good solid addition to Park Slope's Asian dining. It's an upgrade from your usual no frills Chinese takeout, good for families to sit down and enjoy their meal. The soup dumplings are pretty decent. The crispy noodles was not what I expected though because I'm thinking the crispy noodles you get from big Chinese banquet restaurants. This version reminded me too much of the white wash American Chinese takeout instead. My husband tried the Dan Dan noodles and unfortunately it missed the mark for him. Ordered a few dishes and it was shockingly TERRIBLE. The Chicken with Garlic Sauce was 95% onion and a few green pepper, 1% chicken that's the size of my fingernail and thin as paper. The portion was small. Same with the Beef with Black Bean Sauce. We could hardly find any beef, AND again, 99% onion and green pepper, because those are cheap. That costs us $29!! + tx + tip. The Dan Dan Noodle is just plain noodle stirred in some sauce, without any veggie or even green onion for garnish and nothing looks like the pictures on their website. It was $16 + tx + tip. I could have made this at home in 10 min for under a dollar and it'd taste better. The Pancakes were burnt. Their price were expensive which I knew, but at least give us something tasty. I can walk into any cheap take-out place for a $9 combo plate and would be way better than this. It was my son's B'day and they ruined it. I don't usually give such bad review because I'm Chinese. Third time is a charm! Third time we ate here and we were thoroughly impressed with the food and service. The food TASTES authentic, good Cantonese food, not American Chinese food (no General Tso chicken here, thank goodness). The kitchen looks so clean and delicious-I love the open window where you can watch dumplings being made...from freshly made dough and mounds of delicious filling. We got the chili fish (HUGE POT of fish and tongue-numbing Szechuan peppers). That dish alone is 10 STARS! The house fried rice is legit. The dumplings are made from scratch and just delightful. Noodle lane has good soup dumplings but they are pricey. The skin is sturdy yet thin and flavor is good. The pickled fish and mapo tofu were delicious, can be more spicy. I am updating my review to reflect my experience having read the owner's response to my initial review. She has made accusations towards me as her customer, of perpetuating damaging stereotypes against Chinese cuisine despite my review never having slandered her food or its quality, just its prices. I did not, have not, and will never target Chinese cuisine or culture. Kind of silly to be racist towards myself and my ancestry, no? While the owner has tried to turn the tables and spin it around to seem as though I am a bad guy that's targeting Chinese cuisine, I stand by my initial review. I find her food too expensive. You can buy just as high quality, carefully prepared food, (Chinese, Thai, or otherwise) along 7th avenue. If this place is within your budget, then all the more power to you. However, affordability is still important which is why I pointed out my issues with this restaurants pricing. I'm sorry to say the owner took severe personal offense to it. To Lane, Thank you for your response to my review both here on Yelp and on Google. I appreciate the time you've taken to respond to me, and commend you for offering a 10% discount to hospital employees. I enjoyed the food at your restaurant. However, I'm entitled to my opinion that the quality of your ingredients don't make it worth $20 after tax for fried rice for myself personally, and for many of my colleagues who also agree that your prices are quite expensive. I understand that you feel defensive towards my complaints of your prices but I'm appalled by your accusations that I am intentionally targeting and perpetuating damaging stereotypes against Chinese cuisine. Park Slope can be a bit tricky with Chinese food. You have the 3-4 stalwarts that have been around for a very long time, interchangeably they all do the job but never really blown away. Some newer places are very prices but you dont really get your monies worth. Noodle lane is, fortunately, not one of those places. It's a welcoming space whether for lunch or dinner. It's a bit pricier than some other places but, for the most part, the food is very good. Especially enjoy the chow fun, the wonton soup and their soup dumplings. It's not usually something I order but their general tso's is consistently really, really good. There's a bunch more things I want to try. Most of all though, their service is what separates them. Everyone I've encountered who works there is lovely. Every once in a while my mom will come to my neighborhood, we go to noodle lane and we get a beer and a lunch special. They always treat us great and it makes the fun, whimsical-ness of having a lunchtime beer with a parent all the more special. I have to second Aly O's review from a few months ago. I also ordered the Dan Dan Noodles and was underwhelmed by them. I'd ordered my meal as takeout but if I were dining in the restaurant I probably would have sent it back on first sight. There was almost no meat and it just looked generally uninspired. Sending it back wasn't an option though, so I ate it and It tasted exactly how it looked - like a bowl of plain spaghetti tossed in chili oil. As others have mentioned, the prices are on the higher end for this kind of fare. Personally, I'm fine with that, so long as the food meets the expectations that come with the price, but this particular dish didn't even look like it was trying. I'm hopeful that the owners are reading these reviews and trying to improve still because I want this place to live up to its potential and I think some of the dishes do so more than others. Wonton noodle soup - first, the veggies. Bok choi was cut up in a thoughtful way. Wontons - just the right amount of shrimp to give it the right chew to it. The broth made me really go back to Chinatown, which warmed my soul. Pan fried pork and chive dumplings - nice crisp on the outside, filled skillfully to the brim, and great dipping sauce. Soup dumplings left a little to be desired, but still solid. I didn't get a dipping sauce for this? Vibe - open window kitchen ala DTF. I love it. I'm delighted that this place is in my 'hood. Noodle Lane presents a carefully curated set of mostly Cantonese dishes, with some Sichuan references. Astute eaters will note that this is a departure from many Chinese restaurants, which have menus as long as your arm. My journey through the menu so far 小笼包 / Xialongbao / Soup dumplings (I had the pork version) - excellent rendition of this dish. Wonton soup - this was the first dish I tried here, on my way to a Pilates class, so I wanted something light. This showcases the skills of the kitchen, because there's no way to hide a lack of skill or care in this dish. It was utterly beautiful in its simplicity, so much so that I came back in the evening with a friend. Singapore Mei Fun - this dish, which probably originated in Hong Kong and not Singapore, is a dry fried rice vermicelli with curry powder, veggies, and shrimp. A wonderful dish, something I'd been looking for for a while. I hope they'll put Amoy / Xiamen Mei Fun on the menu. Noodle Soup - a perfect, warming bowl for a cold day. Shrimp Paste Fried Rice - shrimp paste is funky, fishy, and has a ton of umami, but it doesn't dominate in this dish. Happy mouth. Sichuan Chicken with Bamboo Shoots / Sichuan Pork with Bamboo Shoots - not quite the mouth-numbing málà and tongue-searing chile you might expect from a Sichuan restaurant, these are satisfying and wonderful. Beef with Black Bean Sauce - what's not to love about this? Velveted beef, and vegetables that are threatened with heat but not cooked into submission. My husband and I order Chinese food 3 to 4 times a month. Our favorite Chinese restaurant recently closed so we have been searching for a new favorite. We ordered from this place yesterday. My husband specifically told them on the phone that we didn't want anything that was too spicy. We ordered soup dumplings that were OK. Not great but OK. I love cold sesame noodles and we always order them from any place we go. The ones we got from this place were too spicy to eat. I'm not quite sure why their cold noodles were spicy because I've had them from everywhere and they're never spicy. We ordered young chow fried rice, which was edible, but that's about all I can say about it. It was mostly rice and very little of anything else. Was so excited to try after seeing all the positive reviews. 1) Dan Dan noodle didn't really scratch my itch. It was lacking meat and flavor. It wasn't bad but it's not something I'd ever order from here again. Not a fan. 2) scallion pancake: this was probably the biggest disappointment of my order. They didn't taste like anything. Where is the scallion? I barely saw any and it just tasted like fried dough. 3) Pork & Chive dumplings: we'll end on a high note. I could eat a thousand of these. They were perfect! If everything else was this flavorful, I'd have given them 5 stars, no question. These puppies were packed with happiness and if I ever have a craving for dumplings again, I'll be ordering these. It had been a long time since I'd been excited about Chinese food, but dining at Noodle Lane on a recent Sunday evening changed that completely. This is damn good food- intensely flavorful, surprising, beautifully presented. We have eaten take-out from Noodle Lane several times and always enjoyed- particularly the soup dumplings- which have to be tried to be believed- but dining in the restaurant made the food taste even more delicious. Along with dumplings and our noodle favorites- we tried two dishes that were new-to-us: Mala Dry Pot with shrimp, and Pickled Fish Sichuan Style. Mala Dry Pot was chock full of things I love- crunch from cauliflower and veg, tofu, sesame, and a delicious sauce, despite the word "dry" in the dish name. The Pickled Fish was unlike anything I've ever had- tart and spicy at the same time, but not too hot, so that the flavors shone through. We had a side of green and fresh seasonal veg and enjoyed a nice Gruner Veltliner with the meal- cooling and bright paired with the bold flavors. Throughout the evening, the service was professional and warm, though the staff was hopping with lots of tables filled and lots of take-out orders being prepared. We were near the kitchen- which has a big window to see where the magic takes place- in a cozy corner. Noodle Lane is such a great addition to the neighborhood- though also worth coming to from afar. The interior is bright and modern but also cozy; a comfortable space for a gathering of two or three friends; and also nice for families. Our kid loves the food! We enjoyed the neighborliness of the restaurant and seeing people we knew, having a short-but-sweet conversation before they left. Our experience dining at Noodle Lane came at the end of an incredibly busy period and it was so nice to simply sit back, relax, and be treated to amazing food. I Can't Believe So Many People Love This Place! I really don't like leaving negative reviews; I know how hard people work to have a successful restaurant. But tbh - the two stars was generous. Pan fried dumplings - had no taste ( I'm guessing soup dumplings might have been a better choice) and the scallion pancake was kinda a wedge of cardboard. The General Tso's shrimp was ok but not great; kinda soggy which I understand can be a problem with take-out; perhaps it would have tasted better in the restaurant. And lastly the chow fun had way too much ginger. To my taste, this is not a dish that lends itself to heavy-handed ginger; I guess other folks must like it. I first tried Noodle Lane and Dumplings at Smorgasburg a few years ago and have been thinking of their Dan Dan noodles ever since! I'm soo excited that they opened a brick & mortar right by me in Park Slope. The inside has a good amount of space with both stand alone tables for 2/4 and a booth. The kitchen has a large window and is essentially an open kitchen. I think the best way to describe this spot would be elevated comfort food. The food is genuinely just so good and comforting and hits the spot when you want that Chinese food fix! Our favorites are the shrimp with garlic sauce (which they are okay with making even though it's technically only listed on the lunch menu!), the lo mein, and their veggie dumplings! I do wish they had shrimp only dumplings but their veggie dumplings have a good amount of filling and have glass noodles in them as well! Definitely unique and delicious. They also have some delicious freshly squeezed lemonade! Price point is slightly pricey but pretty on par with other similar restaurants.
