Was here on a Tuesday around lunchtime and had a complete pick of tables for a group of two. We ordered the curry samosas and the kale avocado shiitake bowl. The curry samosas were okay, but in my opinion could have used more spice/flavoring - the sauce was great with it. The kale avocado shiitake bowl was definitely the best part of the meal. The ingredients tasted fresh and the bowl was a large size. Very kind service and was surprised at how the place didn't have many people for lunchtime. As can be seen from my many reviews, I'm not a vegan or vegetarian or close to it but I stopped here once as the lunch special sounded reasonable. The main dish comes with a choice of miso soup or mixed green salad and a choice of either a spring roll or steamed pumpkin. Depending on which special you get, it comes with either a choice of white rice or mixed rice, white rice only, or no rice at all if it's noodles or curry. Their lunch special is $12.95 which is a good deal for the area. There weren't that many people there and it was pretty quiet inside. I got the L4 lunch special or Smoked Teriyaki Seitan on a Bed of Sugar-Snap Peas with the mixed rice (Thai black, red, and brown) and the miso soup with steamed pumpkin as my choices I generally don't like spring rolls. I probably would get the mixed salad next time as the miso soup was a bit bland but as noted by others a bit less salty than other places. I waited a while and the friendly waiter apologize for the long wait for my main which was appreciated. Seitan is a wheat gluten variety and wheat gluten is easily my favorite meat substitute as I hate the texture of pea protein and I find tempeh to be a bit chewy normally. It has something similar to a chicken texture and the meat was well prepared and the teriyaki wasn't overly sweet and it paired well with the seitan. The peas were well peas and the mixed rice had a good nuttiness. The pumpkin on the side was tasty and very fresh though I'm pretty sure it was kabocha which is technically a squash and not a pumpkin but whatever. I would likely go back and get the black pepper seitan as it has more interesting vegetables (Chinese broccoli/gai lan and shiitake) and hopefully be able to get the mixed rice instead of white rice. Otherwise when it gets even colder, I would probably go back for the kimchi (or kimchee as said there) pumpkin gumbo. Solid spot. Low 4 mostly from the great lunch special but I'd go back to try more and maybe update it to higher. read more

We had the lunch special which for $15 comes with a choice between miso soup or a salad and a spring roll or a slice of steamed pumpkin. There is also a choice with some of the mains to have white rice or a mix of black, red and brown rice. I had the salad, pumpkin, the "Prosperity Platter" (tofu and vegetables) main course and the whole grain rice mix. The salad wasn't that good and I didn't care for the dressing either but the pumpkin was tasty. The mixed rice was good and the Prosperity Platter was okay. We went in on Friday night for a late dinner (930). Everywhere we looked says this restaurant is open until 11. We were seated and ordered several dishes to share, and drinks. The food was really good. But..., maybe 10 minutes into the meal., the server starts asking us if we want containers for our food. As we are trying to eat, my friend informed them that we were still eating, but thank you anyway. They continued to come back every few minutes pressuring us. So finally they tell us - that they are closing soon. I looked at my watch and it says 10:07. So I said, but you don't close until 11? She said oh no that time is wrong. We haven't updated it. We are closing. So now we're trying to eat fast while being pressured to leave after ordering almost $100 worth of food. Nobody notified us before we ordered that they were about to close. As we're trying to eat, she's taking plates away from us.... Completely destroyed the experience of having dinner out with friends. We were actively eating. It's not like we were just lingering around. It's not your customer's fault that If you don't update your published hours, or notify them when they come in! So if you're not going to do those things, then you should not pressure people to take their food to go when they came in to enjoy dinner at your restaurant. read more

Came here with some out of town vegetarian friends and they loved it! I've been to the one in crown heights a year ago and remember how good it was. They have nice big comfy booths. Low light but not so low you can't see what your eating. It's a very warm, comforting and classy atmosphere. Didn't have to wait at all on a Saturday night. And the place does seem spacious, not noisy. We were able to have a nice conversation and catch up easily. Which is hard to do, since most places are noisy and cramped in the city. All dishes are really affordable. For 2 apps, 4 entrees and a pot of tea it was only 20 dollars a person. My entree was only 14 dollars and it was huge. You could really share everything if you wanted too. I got the sweet and sour "chicken" which came with rice and a huge serving of broccoli, peppers and cauliflower. I'm insanely forgiving* when it comes to bad service. You can mess up my order, leave plastic in my soup, pour water on my lap, flatulate in my general direction, hit on my wife, and/or sneeze on my sandwich. Entirely empty on a Monday night, but that gave us the prime seat in the window so I'm not complaining. We started off with the curry samosas with the mint chutney and the scallion pancakes, topped with a homemade mango salsa. Both were wonderful, as only fried carbs can be. I would order either again in a heartbeat. For the main course, we decided on the General Tsao's soy protein, which our server eventually stole. I really can't blame him; it's quite good, and honestly uncanny in its resemblance to actual chicken. If I got to eat people's leftovers, I would be whisking this dish away from every table that ordered it. As a complement, we also opted for the cold green tea noodles tossed in a sesame sauce. They were delicious at first, but as I continued eating, they shrank** on me. I'm not sure what you should make of that, except perhaps that they are best shared with a large group. I've gotten takeout and done outdoor eating here during COVID and it's been a great experience. My faves are the Black Pepper Seitan, Malaysian Curry Stew, and the Jade Mushrooms. OMG if you are not a mushroom hater, you cannot leave here without getting the Jade Mushrooms. They are SO GOOD. I crave them all the time. Appetizers are kind of weak here. I've been a regular at this place for so long I am kind of shocked I've been sleeping on leaving a review. I teach musical theater around the corner from here once a week and the peaceful ambiance is the perfect salve for my jangled nerves. The menu boasts and interesting blend of all-vegan Asian food. Some curries, rice dishes, and the like with the tofu, tempeh, seitan trifecta serving as the "protein" for most dishes. Just as I was getting super familiar, and perhaps burning myself out on some items, they updated the menu and added some truly interesting soups and main dishes. What was already a solid assortment of dishes really went to the next level with these changes. Quite a few surprises and just outstanding dishes. Been here a couple of times now and I have not been disappointed the slightest bit! First of all, they win kudos for having a gluten-free menu that includes several appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts which means there is plenty to choose from. Nearly everything is vegan and those items that are not are clearly labeled. The Jap-Chae and the Mei Fun that I've had are absolutely delicious and generously portioned. I went here yesterday after reading my fellow Yelp reviewer's comments and decided to take a Vegan colleague of mine out for some dinner after he got a job offer. The decor is very simple and yet cozy enough that you feel like you're not in Brooklyn. The waiter service was fairly good; did have to track him down for some water every now and then, but that was because it wasn't the dinner crowd yet. We had the pumpkin soup, which was a nice surprise, and the curry samosas. They were a little greasy, but a nice take on the Indian appetizer. We got for the entrees the General Tso's soy protein and the bi-bim-bap. The general tso's had me SOLD! I had a hard time believing it wasn't chicken and I had to swear up and down to my colleague that it really wasn't meat. The Bi-Bim-Bap was a bit too different for me, but my friend liked it; good first time. We washed everything down with a glass of plum wine and shared the double chocolate brownie (ohhh I love you!) and the green tea ice cream. We left happy and still had money in our pockets! Just left and I am highly disappointed due to the service. The waitress during today's lunch hours spent no time at my table of one. I initially assumed that the restaurant must be packed and she was busy but I soon realized that no one else was having the same experience. I had to ask twice for a straw, received no follow up regarding my meal, no refill on the water, and had to request her to bring the check after I realized she would continue to walk past the stack napkins and utensils on my empty plate. I ordered takeout food 1/19/23 for the first time. I ordered the seitan screwers the green noodles and the spring rolls that were the size of my index finger. (Finger food) The 2 rolls were very small but tasted ok. The other food went into the garbage where it belonged. The noodles were a lil slimy and the seitan was like rubber and a lil stinky. Well I used to lIke this place. It was Saturday, the Chinese New Year's Day. Family tradition we go vegetarian. We arrived at 1140am. Door was not open but a guy came out invited us in. Obviously they were still preparing. We did not mind to wait and appreciated the kind gesture. It was very rainy and we were with 2 little kids. Then she came over. Long dark hair female, probably a waitress or a host. "you guys need to move when the guy comes over to mob. There r still 30 mins until we open." I was like what? " Ok.....but Yelp said you open at 1130." With a long face " We will open in 30 minutes." "May be you guys should change the yelp then?" "It is not my job, you should tell my boss that." she walked away. Well that would be my least concern about what her job was, but at that moment she was representing the restaurant? Even if we showed up too early, was the rudeness necessary? We ended up leaving for another veg restaurant. Thanks for ruining my first meal of the year. Good job! I chose LuAnne's to celebrate my birthday with some friends because of its rating and proximity to the Court Street movie theater and I give it two thumbs up! It does what it says it will do: offer plant-based asian cuisine. The menu is varied and complete with enticing appetizers, soups, salads, entrees and desserts. The pumpkin soup was more brothy than I anticipated (I was thinking a creamy soup) but was still tasty and light. The BBQ seitan skewers were also full of flavor and served as a great hold over until the entree. I went with the noodle salad which I was a little nervous about but was so glad I got. I'm just someone that needs to eat warm food when it's cold outside so I can't eat a salad as an entree in the fall/winter. But the noodles are served over a bed of greens so I got the best of both worlds. The dessert was also a huge win! The apple pie with coconut ice cream was a very strong ending note to a great song. Apple pie ala mode is my favorite dessert and this vegan version was good and good for you too! The waitress came out and sang happy birthday with a candle when she brought it out which was a sweet touch and indicative of the thoughtful, warm, and knowledgeable service we received the whole time. My one critique is that the menu is dominated by soy! I found myself actively looking to avoid soy on the menu which was tough to do. It was possible and the seitan options were good. My entire family loved it!! There are 6 of us so we basically had the entire menu between our drinks, apps, entrées, and desserts. Every dish was exceptionally flavorful and the menu truly catered to everyone's individual preferences. My little sister is very picky, and both of my little brothers love meat- but they all loved Luanne's! (My little brother even thought the General Tsoy's was actual chicken haha). I initially planned to detail everything we got, but honestly everything was a hit so feel free to order anything. However, I do feel the need to specifically push the fudge brownie. I still think they just said it was vegan so we would get it (kidding) because it was insanely moist and chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and just overall purely decadent. I almost cried. Lu Anne's is my go to Asian Vegan spot. The decor and service is great, and love how there is a cute outdoor seating area for when it is nice out. Ordering from here is also very good and fast. Most of the food here is tofu or seitan based. I have had a variety of dishes from here. The lunch special is the best and so affordable. I've had the Black Pepper Seitan which is pretty good and the broccoli in the sauce is tasty. The Pumpkin soup is okay. The eggplant and string beans are also very good and I would order this dish again. The Bi-Bim Bap is a good, healthy alternative to the real one. I think the only thing that throws me off with this one is the seaweed. The sesame-peanut and kimchee sauce definitely elevate the dish. Overall, the food here is really good. I have come here with meat eaters and they seem to enjoy it so that is a good sign. The prices are reasonable and I enjoy each dish that I get here.
