My family has been in Bakersfield for many many years and we own several well known businesses. I have been using new city cleaners and spend over $500 a month. I tried to set up route service. The man took my credit card and my clothes, he charged my credit card then refused to deliver my clothes .An employee named Leslie called and told me I was a not a " Route Type Customer " Be careful with this company. New City Cleaners was the ONLY cleaners in all of California that would clean/restore my grandmother's 65yr old silk wedding dress! And they did a phenomenal job! The dress had been sitting in a box unsealed all these years, still in mint condition; only needing a cleaning. The silk and hand sticked gold embroidery was all made to look good as new! Additionally, their alterations lady was able to modernize my dress by just providing her an inspiration picture and discussing what I wanted. The end result came out absolutely gorgeous! This really a 2 1/2ish stars. I went here off a recommendation from a friend that had her wedding dressed cleaned there and they also did alterations. I took it in before my wedding and had to go back several times because it still wasn't fitting the way I wanted. They never had me try it on any of the times I picked it up, which meant I had to go home and try it on and take it back again and again. This took a total of around 2 months and finally the last time I picked it up about 3 days before I had to leave town for the weekend. It ended up fitting ok in the end, but it took me taking it back several times. When I took it back to get cleaned they told me it would take up to 8 weeks and after that I called Monday, they said it was in, went down Wednesday to find out that it wasn't and nobody ever called me. Finally after 10 weeks and another phone call I got it back. I'm not overly happy with my experience and will think twice about going back. read more

When a colleague accidentally spilled red white all over my favorite white blazer last holidays, New City Cleaners worked their magic and made it look brand new! I couldn't be more happy or grateful! They offer a number of other services in addition to dry cleaning. They also arrange office pick-up/drop-off, which is incredibly convenient, and have a couple locations in town. I visited for the first time 2 weeks ago. I took a skirt in to get cleaned, on a Wed @ 7:30 and had to wait until Monday after 4:30 to pick it up. That's a LONG time for a skirt! I was also told that they are "more expensive than other cleaners, due to their exceptional cleaning services". I picked up the skirt, and the lining was hanging out of the bottom. The explanation was that the stitching on the hem must have come out (brand new skirt, 1st time being cleaned, so, ok). After ANOTHER 4 days it was ready for the 2nd time. So, I stopped to pick my skirt up (again) this morning. The front is still shorter than the back. I asked why this would happen and was told that it happens sometimes when you dry clean. So, I asked if it was washed or DC and she said DC. The care tag says to wash, not dry clean. There was a lady in the back that came out and she actually asked me "if it was that way when I bought it"!! I was appalled, and very irritated. I assured her it wasn't. I also pointed out that tomorrow would be 2 weeks that they have had my skirt, and I paid $15 to go through this. They are sending it back to have it "steamed and stretched". She also asked if I could try it on and see if the entire skirt had shrunk or just the front. I told her I'd try it on at home after I picked it up AGAIN. No offers of anything but an apology. In my family, the name New City Cleaners has always been synonymous with quality and trust. As a little girl growing up, if my mom had a special treasure the only place she would take it would be New City Cleaners. Over the years, I have lived in several cities, San Francisco, Paris, Las Vegas, New Orleans and recently Seattle. I have often tried to find a cleaner in my new city. I've searched YELP reviews, visited high-end boutiques and requested a referral from friends and neighbors and 90% of the time I have been disappointed by the workmanship and quality of their services. Which is why despite living hundreds or thousands of miles away, I have continuously brought my very best items home to New City cleaners. When I have a St. John's garment that needs to be returned to the factory for a repair the Beverly Hills store ships my garment to San Diego. They also do great work. Recently I learned that there are only 8 cleaners in our country that still does the style of cleaning that New City and the cleaner in San Diego utilizes. The trust I place in New City Cleaner is immense. My Seattle home recently had a carpet beetle infestation. This required my 245 treasured designer garments, the bulk of which was St. John's to be fumigated and dry-cleaned. The only place I would trust for such a large and significant project is New City Cleaners. Jarrell Epp (the owner) has been incredibly supportive, professional and collaborative. My dad drove from Seattle to New City Cleaners with a trailer filled with 9 garment boxes. Jarrell worked by my side for 3 hours as we went through my itemized list and checked each beloved item in to be cleaned. My trust in New City Cleaners has only been more firmly solidified. Over the last 30 years I can only think of three mistakes they have made. Each one they immediately corrected with professionalism. It is the meticulous care and the pride they take in their work which is why I continuously entrust them with my garments. I trust them implicitly with the clothes that I have invested in. I know they measure each garment before and after they clean it so that it is returned in pristine condition. I am glad that we have a cleaner that still maintains the high standards the New City employs. By the way, I find their prices to be very reasonable based on their quality of workmanship. They are also far more affordable than other quality dry cleaners. I give their prices a moderate rating since other cleaners charge less but damage the fabric and ultimately ruin the garment without accountability. I live in Seattle, I just paid $23.68 to get a simple dress cleaned. The cleaner I used is not a high end cleaner. Their workmanship is FAR inferior to the quality of New City but sometimes you need something local even if it isn't the best. New City is by far the best dry cleaner I have ever found and worth every penny you pay. read more

Really?? $29.00 to clean a Jersey?? When I called Kleenex on the East side of Bakersfield they only charged me $12.00 and would have it ready the next day, wow!! Kleenex also has a 4 star rating!! I won't take my business here at New City Cleaners!! What a rip off!!! read more

On July 15th 2017 I dropped off my daughter's wedding dress to be cleaned and preserved. I was told it would be four to six weeks before it would be ready. Given that June and July are busy wedding months I waited 8 weeks before I called to check the status. I was told it was not yet returned from being cleaned. Two weeks later I called again I must hold it had not been preserved yet. However I had received no call to examine the dress before it was preserved and at this time was told I would have to call back when someone was there who could show me the dress. Again I called back 2 weeks later and I was told this time did it was still not been returned from being cleaned. Two weeks later I called and was told the computer was down and that she would call me the following day with an update. I received a no call back. Cold again the beginning of December now they're telling me it had not been returned yet. I called back a week later and this time was told they had been trying to call me for 2 weeks but my phone never had been disconnected which it had not. I requested a call back from the owner. I never received a call back. I finally drove the 60 miles to the store to pick up my daughters dress. As it has already been preserved I did not have the opportunity to examine it. The girl who was there said I could take it out of the box but she didn't know how to put it back and there was no one else there that could do it. Needless to say I was extremely upset with their customer service and the quality of their work. She did call the owner and I did get a small a discount. Last Saturday I gave them my rabbit fur vest to clean oils from the collar. The fur was shiny and fluffy. I picked up the vest today. It looks like it was in the rain, it lost shine , no longer fluffy. it is completely ruined. I will never take another fur or any garment to them for cleaning. read more

I cannot recommend New City Cleaner business to anyone. I will say customer beware.Their expertise does not match their claims. I stored two furs (mink and beaver). When I picked up before a cruise I found both were damaged. Fur was flat and dull, lining on both were unattached and hanging down, and mink had holes where the fur came apart from collar and sleeve. When I took both furs to meet with owner, pictures were taken for insurance claims and I took furs to Las Vegas for further evaluation as the furrier was one I had experience to oversee all furs. I was told the furs were so ruined they could not be used for trade in and not worth money invested to fix. His recommendation was present original appraisal along original purchase price for New City to compensate fur damage which I did and to give furs to Salvation Army, which I did. After two weeks I called to make sure owner received paperwork and then called for two months to talk to owner for resolution. When I did not receive any communication I said my only recourse was to report to Better Business. I received a call the next day. The only response I received was excuses and he needed the coats for his furrier and insurance after 2 months of avoiding my calls and would not entertain any other resolution . I was not told at the first examination of fur damage he had to have actual coats and I know a picture of damage is enough for furrier and insurance claims. It was obvious this owner has no interest in giving good customer service to rectify damage their business caused. I also had same experience with a silk jacket I had to throw away after two attempts to fix cleaning mistake. I will report to Better Business Bureau. read more
