Have used New City for many years, as did my parents- we go back at least 50 years using them. Always happy with their results on my finer clothes. We did have one recent incident where the garment was not cleaned to our expectations and unfortunately it also shrunk. The quality is good but the service is bad. Very difficult to communicate, lack of accountability and not polite . Very challenging to be an on going customer . In my opinion this service is repetitive and good communication is needed . Tried the pick and delivery service and that was a huge mistake ! Constantly having to call where our dry cleaning is , they don't know where it is but will call me back . They never call back have to call again . Then they say the owner will deliver them ,, but he never shows up . So again I call and now have to pick them up . Not good ! It should not be thIs difficult. read more

We used New City Cleaners for approximately one year to clean our employee's coveralls. They were reasonably priced, plus they would pick up the coveralls at our office and return them when done. They required a credit card to charge for the services, several months in we noticed $200 charges at the beginning of each month. We never have anything close to this amount, we asked the service person, bookkeeper and always were told they would investigate and call back, it never happened. We called at least 6 to 8 times with the same result. I went to their office and a new employee pulled up a record of the garments picked up by their driver, and confirmed we never had garments even total $100, she called bookkeeper and again they said they would call back, never happened. Then almost 8 months later they call back like nothing happened wanting to restart business. I reminded them of our prior situation and AGAIN she said she would call back. Then recently the pickup driver called and asked if we had any garments to pick up for cleaning in what appeared to be trickery.... This company lacks integrity and never resolved nor returned the overcharges.... read more

I had a garage fire and smoke came into the house, making everything in one of the bedrooms smell strongly of smoke. I was devastated, as I had paid over $600 for the comfortor and matching pillow shams. I thought there's no way they'll be able to get the smell out, it was so strong, but I had to try anyway. Not only did New City Cleaners get the odor out, but my comfortor and shams looked brand new and when I saw how they had hung and wrapped them when I got them back, I felt that they really took great care of my items as if they were their own. I've been a customer of New City Cleaners for 30+ years. During this time I've relocated out of state twice and I was unable to find the quality and standards of New City Cleaners. After another cleaner in another state ruined an heirloom piece, I made the decision that I would be mailing my dry cleaning back to Bakersfield for results I had taken for granted. In my opinion, there is no better place to take my dry cleaning, nor will I risk having an item ruined again. It's been way over a year since I've been using New City Cleaners and coming from someone who has never trusted my laundry to anyone but myself (and with good reason, I can now say I trust no one but New City Cleaners (not even myself). These guys have been around for well over 100 years and I now know why...what I don't know, is why it took me so long after first hearing how amazing they were from several reputable companies and individuals who only trusted New City Cleaners for as long as they could recall. It's never too late after all to do the things I've always wanted to do now that I'm not bogged down with the time consuming tedious task of having to do my dry cleaning/laundry/restorations/household items/alterations/area rugs etc...should I so choose not to, And they do soooo much more. They even pick up and deliver. I heard perfection does not exist but entrusting New City Cleaners for over a year without fault and not going broke in doing so, I think has proven this to be wrong. I dropped my wedding dress off at New City Cleaners to get cleaned and preserved. I was quoted $325-$350 and that it would take 3 weeks. After a month, we called and they said it still wasn't ready. After 2 months, we called again, still not ready. They said their cleaner had hip surgery and it was backed up. They could have called to give an update. At almost 3 months, I called AGAIN. They said it was cleaned but they didn't have boxes. If you know you have dresses being cleaned, shouldn't this have been ordered 3 months ago? The lady said she'd take another dress out of its box and put mine in it so we could FINALLY pick it up. When we picked it up, the dress cost $405. No remorse for their delay. Went to New City because they are the only one's who clean leather. Said it would be $99 and take 2 - 4 weeks. Since this was my favorite purse I said ok. Well, after 6 weeks and nothing I had to call them. They would check on it. Found it at their vender and would send it back. Went to pick it up and to my dismay it didn't really look much better. They also cleaned a dress for me. The price was outrageous. Unless you are able to spend lots of money on cleaning I wouldn't ever go there again. and I agree they are kind of snobby. read more
