Additionally, I wanted to add that most other veterinarians have the cat pain medication buprenorphine on hand to dispense and do not question giving pain medication to a hurt cat at any time. The clowns at New England cat care told me they had to look up buprenorphine and see if it was even allowed to be dispensed to me. My cat got a urinalysis elsewhere and was diagnosed with cystitis that he is fighting and doing well with under the care of a much more reasonable veterinarian. also, NO OTHER VETS CHARGED A WASTE DISPOSAL OSHA FEE SO IF YOU GET THIS FEE DISPUTE IT. read more

This place is the place to go if you are a cat owner and want expert analysis and opinions. Dr. Richter is extremely knowledgeable. He will talk your ear off because he knows so much about cats and wants to share them with you! He cracks me up. You can just tell that he loves loves loves kitties! The staff is also just as knowledgable and nice. I often call them about anything cat-related if I need advice. Through them, I have learned what kind of insurance I can get for my cats (and that pet insurance is super affordable!), what to feed them, how to take care of an older kitty, etc. Danielle, especially, is amazing. The cost is not cheap. I probably paid at least $300/visit because of the thorough testing/examination they tend to do. But if you really care about your cats' health and want the best for them, I highly recommend this place. read more

I have a 10 year old cat and we've gone through several moves together, so I've seen a handful of vets over her lifetime. My experience with Dr. Richter and New England Cat Care was by far the best experience I've ever had with a veterinary clinic. First - the place is small and comfortable, and the front desk staff (Danielle) was incredibly warm and welcoming. Like others have said, not having other animals in the clinic makes it more relaxing for the cats. The tech was great with my sometimes testy cat, and Dr. Richter went above and beyond. He spent close to an hour with my cat and I, making sure to get to the bottom of what was causing her limp and spending the time to go through all of the treatment options with me. He is so knowledgeable and has great bedside manner (with cats and humans)! I'm so happy to have found this place and will be glad to use them as my cat's provider as long as I'm in the area. Mickey girl cat and I met Jenn at the front desk, who immediately impressed me with her natural, down to earth, and friendly manner in more than just a I'm being paid to present well way. She is sincere and makes one feel right at home. Jasmine, vet tech, came to get Mickster for her weigh in and other basics. Then, not long after, came Dr. A, who announced her very good findings to this nervous wreck mom. I had found a lump on Mick, next to her spine, in the lower quadrant. Dr. A explained that in order to be certain of its state, we must remove it and have it biopsied. I found the doctor to be exceptionally focused and concerned about Mickey's well being, her habits, her evacuations. A little later, the doctor said that she and the staff will not be in on the 7th and 8th of this month because a family member will have surgery. Despite being unsettled about this, Dr. A was warm, attentive, and her concentration, strong and steady. I now know that New England Cat Care Center will be my go to place for all of kitties' business, now, and in the future. The good veterinarian even took time to speak very candidly about cat food, its ingredients, and dispelled the common myths about it. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Richter, Danielle, and the rest of the incredible staff at New England Cat Care! After receiving a shocking potential diagnosis of FIP from another general vet, I brought my young cat to Dr. Richter and he spent almost 2 hours with us, thoroughly examining her and talking me through every possible cause trying to rule out this deadly disease. After examination, x ray, and blood test, we thankfully determined that she most likely does not have FIP and I can't thank Dr. Richter enough. Not only did he take the time to examine my kitty in a caring and loving way, he also answered my many questions with great detail and included me in every decision. Yes, it's a bit pricey as some of the other reviewers said, but they run every cost by you before running them, and are very transparent with the costs which I appreciate. And it's completely worth it for the amazing care my cat received. Thank you thank you thank you! I will be loyal to New England Cat Care as long as I am a cat owner. I can't recommend New England Cat Care enough. Because I adopted two senior kitties a couple of years ago, one with some pretty significant health problems (moderate kidney disease), I have been a regular here for the past year and a half. When I first adopted them, I used a mobile vet thinking it would be easier on the animals to be treated in-home, but in the end I just didn't really feel the doctor was thorough enough (I got the distinct impression she preferred dogs and cats weren't high on her priority list) so I switched my pets over to NECC. I am so glad I did. I thought there wasn't much I could do for my kitty other than make her comfortable in her last years, but Dr. Richter showed me otherwise. With a simple treatment plan we have been able to improve her condition and actually down grade her kidney disease a full stage. Pretty unheard of if you research kidney disease in cats. My other cat has some minor issues as well but we've gotten a handle on those and both are on track to much better health than when I first rescued them. The doctors are wonderful and are truly cat lovers. I have learned so much from them. The support staff is also wonderful. Alisa and Danielle are so helpful. I can call anytime and know I will get a call back. Yes, visits here can get pricey but you truly get what you pay for. I speak from experience - years ago with another cat, I had a horrible experience with Banfield Animal Hospital (a chain of veterinary care attached to most Petsmart locations) I thought I was doing something good for my cat but turns out their incompetence and cost saving measures (they do not allow their vets to do certain diagnostic tests) led to a misdiagnosis that ultimately cost me my cat. I'll never make that kind of mistake again. Don't skimp on your pet care (if you can't afford it, don't have pets!). read more

I was unsatisfied with my previous vet, for reasons that aren't appropriate to this review. The yelp review of these guys looked great so i decided to take a chance. I was so happy with the experience that I was compelled to write a review. My girlfriend and I took our kitties here today. All we can say is Dr Richter was amazing. We've never seen one of our cat's so good with a vet. This is the first time in memory human blood has not been drawn... My other cat was an absolute sweetheart with Dr. Richter, she's usually good at the vet though. Both kitties give them 5 stars. I give New England Cat Care 5 stars too. They were fantastic addressing my concerns. Dr. Richter seemed very thorough and answered every question I had in detail and made us feel very comfortable. He seems to really know his stuff and is passionate. I feel like he spent a LOT of time with us, and it was much appreciated. It's clear that he cares about not only about the cat but about the people the cats own too... I can't recommend them enough based on this initial experience. Yes they cost more than my previous vet, but I didn't think it was that bad either, it was more expensive than i'm used to, but less than I expected based on the reviews here. it definitely was worth the price, but not prohibitively expensive. I recently moved to the area and brought my 4 year old cat to New England Cat Care because he was sneezing. Dr. Richter and his team took the time not only to investigate the main issue and rule out various possible causes, they also thoroughly examined his coat, glands, teeth, eyes, and ears. They had obviously read the medical records I provided and brought that information to bear in diagnosing him. All of my questions were taken seriously and answered thoroughly. It's not an inexpensive practice, but they were very transparent about the costs of some tests they were considering running and let me decide how to proceed. Expected astronomical rates based on previous reviews, but got a full exam, Rabies vaccine and information to make a smooth move to Canada with my feline companion for under a hundred bucks. Heartbroken that this practice chose to be cruel and heartless to me when my cat was found to be terminaly ill. Danielle had no desire to be supportive or kind in any way. I guess dead cats bring no money. I'm disgusted I ever let them touch my cat in the first place. They are withholding my records when my cat is alive and thriving considering his condition. I was a client for thirteen years, I brought my cat to be euthanized. Dr. Arcuri was very cold, not supportive, and handled my cat poorly traumatizing the cat and myself. Then I received a bill for $500, checking with 3 other local vets their charge was $86- $90 plus $90 cremation. I have reported them to the state for extreme inflation of cost constituting disgraceful conduct in a professional respect. I would never go back and after this experience, may never get another cat. read more

I can't praise N.E.C.C. enough! The husband/wife team of Dr. Richter and Dr. Arcuri are top notch veterinarians! They also believe in preventative care, therefore, they do physicals twice a year. While some may think is this really necessary, I can assure you that we have seen first hand with our cats that this can be crucial to diagnosing a condition early on and therefore, prolonging their life! They leave no stone unturned. Dr. Richter is brilliant and his instincts are spot on. When there is a complicated situation, he researches heavily and reaches out to other specialists. These are the best veterinarians I have ever encountered: smart, thorough, kind, and generous. They are incredibly knowledgeable and keep abreast of all new developments in veterinary medicine, informing their clients of recent scientific studies which may be of interest to them. Anytime you go in for a visit, they will spend lots of time with you discussing your cat's health and answering any questions you may have. They have always provided excellent care for my cat, a large, ten-year-old male rescue, who has required all sorts of treatment from dental care to liver medication. The doctors are also genuine cat lovers themselves, so they are very attentive and affectionate towards the animals they treat. (Even my cat, who is extremely timid and skittish, does fine in their office.) I could not be happier with them, and cannot imagine ever going to another vet! read more

Both doctors are skilled, compassionate, and dedicated to the health of their furry little patients. I have been working with NECC pretty much since they opened the doors. My first cat preferred Dr. Arcuri so I took Harlequin's lead and stuck with her for most of my 25 years. I have also had experience with Dr. Richter. Both have been nothing short of professional, knowledgeable and very caring. This February 2018 I had to put my 6 year old down. During the last few days of his life, Danielle and the staff picked up the phone immediately each time I called. They were there for Monty and me every step of the way with love, grace, understanding and empathy. There has not been much staff turn-over in the past 25 years (which tells you a lot). What prompted me to write this review is to give stark contrast to the review someone posted on 1/9. There are not enough words to express how wonderful Danielle is; can't even begin to try so I will leave it at that. I did take their advice with Monty and bought pet insurance which paid about 80% of my bills. read more

I can't even begin to explain how happy I am to have found the Dr's and Staff @ NECC! I started with 2 adopted kitties, and eventually adopted a 3rd, and all 3 of them are happy and healthy. This office is so clean, tranquil, and inviting.My cats, though nervous at the Vet, are so easily calmed by Dr's Acuri and Richter. You just know that they care as much about your pet as you do. Though their services are expensive, the care and treatment they provide is Top Notch! When my Roxie developed a problem with vomiting and malabsorbtion, I really thought I was going to lose her. Dr Richter was so diligent and assured me that they would figure out what was wrong and get her well. She has completely recovered, thanks to his expertise! I love that they have 3 of their office cats present too, and little Pajamas always comes to greet me when I come in. The photos they post show just how much love and care they have for all of their clients, and I would never think of bringing my kitties anywhere else. I also love the design of the Pet Portal. After a late night visit to the New Haven animal hospital, I took what turned out to be my dying cat in (he had been a patient in this practice already) and despite the full work up at the animal hospital they only wanted to keep running diagnostic tests (which were quite expensive) and make no attempt to make my cat comfortable in his final days without the tests. After a few office visits with my very sick cat I realized he was dying and asked about Euthanization, for which they wanted over $300. This was beyond what I could spend (after well over $1000 in expenses already). I have since changed vets thankfully. read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this vet! We recently moved to the area from Massachusetts and earlier this month my cat became ill with a urinary tract infeciton. I had been researching vets prior to this and I was interested in bringing the cats here because it is a cat only hospital. Both vets and the staff were absolutely wonderful from the beginning and immediately saw my kitty even though at that point we weren't existing clients. My cat ended up having to stay overnight for observation and Dr. Richter called me at 10:00 at night just to update me that my boy was doing fine. Unfortunately we've been back and forth a few times in the last month because his infection is particularly stubborn, but everyone at NECC has been extremely supportive and I know he is in great hands. He finally seems to be on the mend now and hopefully it will stay that way! I also had to bring my other cat in for a check up and she is normally very aggressive at the vet. Although she did vocalize a lot and clearly wasn't happy, she was far calmer than I had ever seen her at the vet before. Dr. Richter knew exactly how to handle her and keep her under control without adding to her anxiety. Without a doubt I will continue bringing my cats to Drs. Richter and Arcuri and I highly recommend them to anyone with cats who lives in the New Haven area. read more
