Ethical and outstanding. I had another HVAC company do a season service on my furnace to ensure tip top performance for the winter. In doing so, they found that my furnace was allegedly broken with a variety of reasons why, causing me to have no heat and a hefty quote for a new furnace. Ironically, it was working fine before they came, I just wanted to get an routine maintenance. I shopped around for contractors to give quotes on this project. I contacted Ralph from New England Heating & Cooling and he came the next day to give me a quote. Prior to giving me a quote, he wanted to see if he can fix my furnace to determine if it was actually broken. He noticed that my previous HVAC company left some power lines to the furnace unconnected (whether it was deliberate or accidental is another issue). Ralph also found that the flame sensor was dirty. He made some suggestions in regards to replacing my nest thermostat which might have explained the subpar performance to begin with. He assured me that the furnace was not an issue and that the first HVAC company lied about it being broken. He could have just smacked a quote and left, but he took the time to troubleshoot my problem instead of selling me on an unnecessary replacement. I would work with him again if I have any more issues with my furnace, honest guy. read more

When I first called for an estimate, Ralph came right out. On time and very prompt. Ralph and Robert are great guys. They installed a wall heater in our basement to replace an old one. After a week, the unit was not working, Ralph came right away twice already and will have to come back after the gas company installs a new meter. So it started with my AC leaking water into the basement. I called New England Heating & Cooling (NEHC) to have a look. They came in and said I needed a new condensate pump. The pump was installed, and on that same day, I was mopping my basement again because, obviously, the pump hadn't been the problem. They were nice enough to come back in again for free and "blow out the lines" to make sure that they were not clogged (this should have been the first thing to try instead of installing a new pump, if you ask me). About a week later, the unit started leaking again. At that point, I was $350 in and NEHC told me that I "probably" needed a new condensation pan, which runs at about $1,000 or so. Since my AC unit was only 1.5 years old, I called the guy who installed it to get a second opinion. He said it is highly unlikely that the condensation pan in a gas unit cracks after such a short time, and he also said that applying pressure to the lines would just push the gunk back into the system, but not remove it. What needed to be done was vacuum the lines with a wet vacuum to see whether that fixes the problem before you spend a fortune on a new condensation pan. When I told NEHC about it, I was told that they don't want my business anymore and I should stop calling them. So in summary, I spent $350 on NEHC and my unit is still leaking. The worst part, though, was their complete lack of professionalism. Before I had them install the pump, I asked the owner whether they honor the Yelp coupon which gets you $50 off. He said that would be fine. I also asked him whether I could use a credit card for the remainder, and he also said that was fine. However, when the pump was installed and the guy called in to have my credit card charged, he was told the machine was broken. So I had to cut them a check instead, asking them not to cash it for a week to avoid overdraft fees on my checking account. So far, so good. When I spoke to him next to tell him that the unit was still leaking after they put in the new pump, he gave me an attitude about (a) using a Yelp coupon because he doesn't have a clue how to get paid through Yelp (even though the coupon was created through his own business account and the information is easy to find), and (b) giving his guy a check that can't be cashed for a week (even though it was his credit card machine that was conveniently broken when I tried to pay by CC). In addition, I was told that no one had responded to the multitude of messages I left on his voicemail because his phone system had been down for a couple of days... I think you are beginning to get the picture here. At that point I was fed up with this guy and told him he better get someone over quickly to fix the issue if he wants to avoid the kind of review that I am writing right now. So they came in, blew out the pipe, the unit is still leaking, and now they refuse to come back again to finally fix the issue. So first they install a pump which I am still not sure that I needed, and now I am stuck with having to call someone else to fix the issue I already spent $350 on... Never again. Terrible attitude, questionable business practices. To this day, I haven't even received so much as a receipt from them about the services performed, so I would not believe what their website says about the 2-year warranty on their services. I cannot rave enough about these guys! Initially they came out to provide me with a proposal to remove and replace my heating and hot water system. From the start, they were prompt, informative and efficient. They were familiar with the Mass Save program process which a huge help. In the crazy mess of the other players in the Mass Save program, these guys were a breath of fresh air. (no pun) Short version. Due to some miscommunication with CSG (Mass Save partner), the order of procedures, etc, my heat was shut off by National Grid due to high CO levels and gas odor. They showed up and made intensive repairs in order to make it safe to stay in our home until a permanent solution could be scheduled. What they did for me by coming out on a cold Friday afternoon shows real character. I will sing their praises all day long. If you want the job done correctly and efficiently, work with these guys. Unprofessional service by this company especially the owner, Ralph. He delayed our A/C instillation multiple times which ended in an almost 4 month project when we were told it would take 4-5 days from start to finish and resulted in the job not getting finished. Ralph along with his workers used foul language, cursing left and right every time they stepped foot in our home. Sloppy work was done, they cut corners to save themselves time rather than doing the proper repairs to satisfy their customer. Ralph couldn't install our thermostat after several failed attempts he up and left and didn't finish the job. Of course this was after he deposited our payment. He is completely unprofessional and a waste of time and money. He is money hungry and will screw you over. If I only read the poor reviews on yelp prior to hiring him, I would have decided on another company that has a good reputation. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!! Complete and total WASTE OF MONEY. Very disappointed. After four un-returned phone calls, a tech finally came to see our AC unit which was down. He misdiagnosed the problem, and left without any resolution but not before happily charging me $300 for the pleasure. Then came the phone conversation with Ralph, the defensive and weak-minded owner. When asked to explain the cost of a replacement 2.5-ton unit, he yelled at me and then hung up the phone. Purchased a couple of heat pumps from them to replace two that were non functional. They did a good job getting them installed in a timely manner. The owner attributed problems to Nest thermostats, but that was later shown to not be the case. Seems to have an aversion to such thermostats. When one of the heat pumps failed last summer, only a couple years into its lifespan, they would not work to get parts replaced. They had challenges getting replacement parts from a distributor and faced with that, refused to do the warranty work. My last call with them ended with a "we can't help you" and a hangup. They started out well when I purchased $10,000 in equipment and services, but when it came time to support it, decided it was too hard and hung up on the customer. I would have recommended them before this, but when they hang up on the customer because they don't want to be bothered, that's a deal breaker. I wouldn't recommend these guys to anyone. They'll sell and install, but if you need warranty service, they will literally leave you out in the cold. read more

Lazy owner named Ralph who just wants your money! He is rude, shows up late (also no-showed twice), hangs up on you and is unprofessional. My family had A/C installed and he gave us the runaround. Took over a month from start to finish and left a huge mess in our basement. His workers use foul language nonstop and I have a 4 year old son who heard everything they said. To top it off, they do sloppy work! Ralph will "YES" you to death with what you ask him about finishing the job and in reality he will cut corners just to finish the job quickly. Took 3 months for Ralph (unprofessional owner) and his workers to install our A/C and he left us high and dry! It is still not finished and he already deposited our checks. We called him to confirm his return to finish the job and we were lied to, hung up on three times, delayed and he never completed the project. Ralph screamed at me on the phone like a 5 year old having a tantrum. Is this how he runs his company? A disgraceful company that is money hungry and only wants your payment! If I could give 0 stars, I would. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! This company is unprofessional, unreliable, and lacks knowledge in both heating and cooling. We had to end up going with another company to fix everything they did. The new company said they had never seen such bad work before. Our heat broke in the middle of winter and we called tihs company since they were available after hours. They told us the part we needed was outdated so we had to purchase a new furnace. We purchased a new furance and it took them 2 days to install. The guys that came did NOT know how to install it. They fumbled around for hours and hours while it was freezing. The owner came back the next day and had to re-install it. The next day it broke again. They came back and had to fix the vent. It broke again. They came back and fixed the way it was sealed. Every time they said they would come, it was always a day AFTER they originally said. They wouldn't return calls and wouldn't call us to tell us they would be an ENTIRE day late. We finally got the heat operational. Turn 5 months to summer and we went to turn our AC on, it didn't work. The last people who touched it was when they installed the furnace. The company said they would come at 8am. We called all day until 5pm. They finally answered and said sorry, they would come the next day. We took another day off of work and waited all day. They said their truck was in the shop. We waited a 3rd day. They came at the end of the day and one of their guys had put a screw through the coiling pipe causing it to leak all cooling fluid out. They said they didn't have time to fix it since it was the end of the day. We demanded they fix it. They fixed it and said they would only refill the fluid if we paid for it, so we did just to get rid of them. Two days later we noticed water leaking from the furnace when the AC was on. We called them back. Again for 3 days they said we would be the first appointment at 8am and never showed or answered the phone. They called 3 days later and said their truck was impounded and they would come the next day. We waited 4 days and they never answered again. We got a new company to fix everything and they said they had never seen such awful work. read more

Spoke with Rob and scheduled an appointment to have my leaking AC looked at. Appointment day comes and I take time off of work to be home for the service call, then they never show up. Called the office a 1/2 hour before my appointment window (1PM-3PM) was scheduled to end and was told they were running late and they would call when they were on the way. By 7PM still no call, so I gave up and left a message to see what happened. I never heard back from them! While I do understand sometimes jobs run long and emergencies happen, not even receiving a courtesy call to reschedule is unacceptable. I don't understand how these guys recieved high reviews. They are not responsive when asked for additional information related to their quotes. They originally came on site to address an issue I was experiencing with a tankless unit flashing an error message. After spending 1 hour servicing the unit, the problem still existed. Robert suggested replacing the unit rather than try to research the failure (mind you the unit was only 4 years old and still under warrenty). In order to consider this option, I needed proof of insurance (due to association requirements) and asked for the exact unit Robert recommended in his quote. Having had a bad experience with our existing unit, I wanted to review his suggestion on line so that I was comfortable forking out $3500 when my existing unit was still in good condition and still so young. I called and texted for about two and a half weeks for this information.....radio silence from Robert and his team. Although Robert comes across as knowledgable and fairly priced, when it came to responding to questions before about the job, Robert continued to blow off me off. I even left a message stating I wanted to move forward with hiring them but needed this information beforehand. Maybe the $3500 job was too cheap for his business or they really don't know how to address tankless issues as they say they can considering that their only recommendation was to replace everything. In either case, I can not recommend them based on my experience. read more

New England Heating & Cooling installed an oil furnace and air conditioner at my parent's house and failed to regulate proper air flow. The service started on 1/28/15 and my parents have not had heat in their basement since. During this past horrible winter I had to keep space heaters on because the pipes started to freeze. My parents have a finished basement that is now uninhabitable during the winter and currently stays between 62-64 degrees. My elderly father has to use multiple space heaters to use the room because the contractor failed to complete what the contract reads. They have lied several times by saying they were coming to fix it and then wouldn't show up. Recently they did come and promised they would come back to fix it, but that was over three weeks ago! read more

My furnace died a couple of days after last Christmas so I gave these guys a call and they literally responded seconds after I left a voicemail. Their man showed up and assessed my furnace and attempted to get it running again. He told me it was a very old system and although he could give it a temporary fix it wouldn't be worth it, being so old. I didn't expect to have to shell out for a whole new system so he priced out the most affordable replacement he could find for me. Once he did, his team showed up first thing in the (very cold) morning to install it. In a couple of hours, our frozen home was defrosted and once again warm and cozy. Really pleased with my experience with New England Heating & Cooling! Woke up in the middle of the night on one of the hottest days of the summer to learn that our HVAC was no longer sending cool air through the vents. After perusing Yelp reviews at 7AM on a Wednesday morning and cautiously making a selection (there are a LOT of bad reviews in the HVAC world!), I was pleasantly surprised to reach the owner of the company, Ralph, on the 2nd ring, who made it over to our house within an hour. It was a perfect storm of things that needed to be fixed, but Ralph and Bill made sure we had cool air pumping through the vents before dinner time. Not only that, but they took the time to explain what might have caused the problem and they were incredibly polite and efficient. The bill was fair and we are incredibly grateful for their hard work, especially on a day where temps soared above 90 degrees. I would definitely recommend New England Heating & Cooling to others. Unfortunately, my fiancé and I ran into furnace problems late Saturday night. We called New England Heating and Cooling Sunday morning. They charge you $275 just to walk in your door, then after 2 failed motor relay replacements (one for $50 and the other $200 which neither fixed the problem or were even used) he had to call his "Brother" because he couldn't diagnose the root cause of the problem. Ralph and his "brother" did a mickey mouse temporary fix that lasted two hours I was left $600 poorer and still without heat. Initially he had told us that it would cost "around" $4,000 to install a new furnace unit. Thank god, we decided not to use New England Heating and Cooling and we did decide to use another company who Installed our new furnace unit for $2,500. When I returned Ralph's phone call regarding the repairs (if that's what you want call what he did when he came to my home on Sunday), I had to remind him of what he had done to my old furnace. I told Ralph that I was not interested in any more of his work and found a better company to do the work, He could not get me off the phone fast enough. He did not even offer a partial refund of the $600 I had paid (which was a complete rip off). I would not recommend New England Heating and Cooling to anyone. I was greatly disappointed. read more

Honestly..... the BEST company I have ever dealt with! Woke up at 5:30 am with no heat, called New England Heating & Cooling.... The owner of the company is in my kitchen 35 minutes later. Yes at a little after 6 am the owner is in my basement giving me options for a new furnace. By early afternoon that day ..... I have heat!!!! The guys who installed the furnace were just FANTASTIC!!!! This company is top notch. They actually care about the customer. Don't call any other company. Your search is over.... These guys are great! They have saved me money several times and have even come out and solved problems without even charging me (nevermind refraining from recommending unnecessary and expensive repairs!). They helped me keep my limping system alive as long as possible, and did a great job installing a new compressor at a fair price when there were no other options. I have dealt with several other companies for maintenance and repairs of our system during the 12 years we have owned our condo. Some have recommended needless repairs or tried to charge ridiculous prices for customary repairs. Hired this company out of the several heating service companies that I searched for out of Craigslist .org but I do wish now that I had only kept on searching ? My .gas heating system just recently went down , Called , NEHC , their serviceman came , he was very courteous and polite , seemed to fix my system correctly , even got my system to work again , but it only worked now for 2 hrs ?. I then learned quickly that this company charges a $150.00 service fee every time to just walk through your door, then they add upon this service fee a $25.00 labor charge or more a totally useless charge now , mines was totaling $175.00 ? The big problem here was when I called again to only report that my system had shut down shortly thereafter ,that very same day, I could only reach their voice mail system ? So on the very next morning I called again ,,I did finally reach someone live , the Co's Owner Mgr. who answered the phone ,then he proceeded to show me that his company's main concern is not geared towards customer service ? As he never did offer me any Customer Service nor was he interested in providing any service warranty ? My service call was only one day old but he acted as if I was a 1st time caller requesting new service ? ,His interest truly was not aimed around my issue on that day it was only how he could increase his daily net profits for that day He then attempted to outright rob me blindly by informing me about my system without actually ever seeing it in person ,? He stated that he could send me someone to repair my system possibly but all his men was currently tied up in other cities now?But as soon as he could he would get a hold of someone ,would send him over to take a look if not that day the very next day ? Anyway he stated that if I was to repair it now I would need to install some new parts 1st one costing me $ 250 ? I then added up these new parts to the bill I just paid to him the previous day ?, He believed my system needed a new relay switch ,then he added another $150 fee just to return back to my home to install it again , then he added another $69.00 charge for another new part a electronic igniter switch box that he said that I also needed , now the total in new parts and service charges would be $469 together now just to start , I actually remember him saying to me now we will start there ! No I don't think so as , I replied back inside my head , only to myself He then suggested I try a different company now as he did not like anyone questioning his expertise Now what a joke , what expertise is he now referring to LOL,, Oh, all the money I spent with NEH is a total wash now and is forgotten I had to really re consider now all the money that I had already wasted using this same company, just the previous day plus another Co. ? So, now he got really upset with me when I asked him several questions only justifying all these new parts , that he claimed was a necessity , then using a very tired trial and error ploy ,always where only the customers pay ?The bottom line here was this company never knew what they were actually working on , or how to even repair this gas system ? My system has now been fully repaired and is now running like a Rolex Presidential watch , via another Heating Repair Service Co. that I only luckily fell upon ,I was forced to call yesterday , just before the Blizzard of 2015 had set on in?. A great ,very knowledgeable company who offered me a real service , truly knew about my older system ,they only replaced the bad parts as needed too ,adding to this the cost of the 1 part damaged by NE Heating and Cooling who. did accidently break one part now when they removed it for inspection,then broke off several wires ? Now the three most important facts here that I learned was. One - All heating and service repair companies do not charge you just to come out to your house and walk through your door , but you better ask them first before they show up to confirm now ? Two - There was never any $ 250 relay switch that is required for installation anywhere on my gas firing system now we'll just start there? Three - There has never been an igniter switch box installed on or found anywhere on this gas heating system for $69. 00 or for more or less ? Now please go figure all this - NE Heating and Cooling TRULY YOU ARE - A so called heating and cooling $pecialist Co. ? But you are truly ,only good at fleecing us the Public , then padding your Bills to us for even higher profits now for yourself , so easily done too at the tune of $150 a pop every time you pay us a visit to our home now read more
