Recently re-opened after renovations, this is great little Maine restaurant. Pros: the waitress was very personable. The environment was clean and the ambience was warm and inviting. Our food was properly portioned and tasty. We left satisfied. Cons: there is nothing sticks out that I could label as an opportunity. Overall: we would eat here again. Only open a couple of months and had to stop in to give it a try while passing through! Five star service in this little gem tucked away in Perry on route 1. Cozy small town diner feel with plenty of comfort foods, seafood (at market price), specials to choose from. Save room for the homemade pie! Started with the poutine that was a healthy helping of gravy in a bed of fries coupled with a combo of shredded cheeses. Not your moms poutine, but covers the craving needs! Next was seafood chowder which was packed full of a variety of seafood, just a little on the thin side if you are looking for a thick creamy chowder. Finished off with a healthy slice of homemade chocolate raspberry pie that was a great balance of creamy sweetness to finish off the meal. Staff was great and attentive to customers needs. I visited mid afternoon no issue with finding a seat and enjoy a quiet late lunch. Need food quickly, order something up for take out and New Friendly Restaurant has you covered! read more

I was excited to hear that a new restaurant would be opening in Perry, ME, after The New Friendly Restaurant closed. We are in dire need of local restaurants in this rural community. I was very disappointed, however, when the new place opened with the same name as the previous New Friendly Restaurant. The decor had been updated, but the menu is essentially unchanged. It was never all the good to begin with -- monotonous and unchanging. Typical fried fare. Nothing special. The same applies to the NEW New Friendly Restaurant. However, what IS new are the much higher prices. One example: the hamburger is good, but "Oh, would you like anything on that? Lettuce, tomato, or onion? That will be an additional $0.50 EACH!" "Cheese? That's another $2.00 for a thin square of 'American Process Cheese Food'." I'm afraid that trial visit will be my one and only. I'd rather drive 22 miles to Calais for the few choices there. read more

I'm giving them three stars because of chowder. All potatoes, no lobster, and the clams were over cooked. The broth is milk and butter.. no cream. The fish was excellent.. fries..frozen French fries.. Their cole slaw is macerated cabbage. It's like baby food cole slaw. Service was great! read more

Basing this rating on my 2nd visit while in the area. Perfect example of why the more reviews, the better. It was chilly, a little too dark to grill so I opted to pickup some takeout. I got the broccoli cheese bites (excited to see them on the menu and if you had them at Nickel's in Merrimack NH, you'd know why). These were not even close. Small, all batter, very little broccoli ... not much flavor. The seafood chowder was chock full of seafood but the broth tasted like heated milk and butter... bland. The lobster stew was better. It was full of chewy knuckle and claw meat while the broth was creamy and fairly yum.. especially after adding black pepper to it. Big portions for the bowl; should have done a cup. PS I repurposed about 3/4 of the lobster from the stew and made deelicious lobster stuffed shrooms as an app the next evening. So good. read more

Amazing! Everyone for a 40 mile radius recommends this restaurant when you're in the upper reaches of Maine. I finally got to see why. Staff is super friendly, the seafood is fresh, fresh, fresh, and everyone leaves fully satisfied. I only had time to come here for lunch on one day - it was a little challenging to find from the side roads, but very well worth it! From lobster rolls to fish and chips and everything in between there is something for every seafood lover. I rarely have my best meal be whatever is offered at lunch but on this day it was a real treat! You wouldn't really expect a top-notch restaurant to be on the side of a rural highway or route, but then you'd also miss out on this incredible restaurant. Can't wait to return for more! read more

Had a great lunch here last weekend after riding to the end of the sunshine trail. I had a delicious chicken salad sandwich and my dad got seafood chowder and a blt. It was exactly what we needed and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. read more

This restaurant is off Rt. 1 the Coastal Highway of Maine and is worth stopping at for the lobster roll. For $14.99, you get a lobster roll and your choice of 2 sides (potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, mashed potatoes, french fries, etc.). The lobster roll has an insane amount of lobster on it, to the point where I made my own "lobster mashed potatoes". The baked beans were good but not quite sweet enough for my taste. Depending on how you like your lobster roll, I would say there is a little too much mayo on the lobster but overall it was very good and worth the money. read more

Just rating the lobster roll here. People have complained that I don't venture down east. I think Perry, Maine is far enough down. The roll was ok. A little heavy on the mayo. There was iceberg lettuce! The meat wasn't that sweet and a little mushy. With pretty good onion rings that came out of a freezer the roll set me back $13.99. read more

This place should be called the "Unfriendly" Restaurant. I was traveling for work and wanted to look over my email while eating dinner. THEY DON'T ALLOW CUSTOMERS TO USE THEIR WIFI. This is a part of the country where cell phone service is scarce for some carriers ( AT&T) so I desperately needed WiFi. The server was so rude when I asked and she actually rolled her eyes and scurried off. She never even came back to get back my drink order. 20 minutes later, I'm still waiting for her to return and take my drink order, so I flagged down another waitress. She also told me "we don't give our WiFi to customers." It's the 21st century people! Get with it if you want tourism to boost your economy. This is crazy. Plus the staff was really rude. I left and didn't eat so I can't comment on the food, but there were very few healthy options on the menu anyway. Best of luck to this little diner. Hopefully they wake up and treat out-of-towners with a more welcoming attitude. read more

The New Friendly Restaurant is amazing. I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad meal. I usually get the fried scallops in crumbs or the lobster roll... Both of which are amazing! The portions are perfect for what you're looking for--you can usually get small or large depending on what you order. There is a big selection of food and this place has something for everyone. This is a great place "where the locals eat" often, year round for lunch and dinner. It lives up to its name "friendly." The food is excellent, the staff efficient, and the prices are great. It is more of a family type restaurant, but they do serve beer and wine too, and half portions for little kids. It is actually in "Perry, Maine," not Washington, ME. read more
