Food seemed to be prepared with little attention to detail, but, there are excellent wait people. The owner wouldn't give me eye contact when I paid/thanked him. After waiting 20 minutes just to see our waitress ( there were three outer tables occupied in the restaurant and 3 people serving), we placed our order with the specification that there was a mushroom allergy. We had the waitress repeat the order. The food was a long time coming as well, mostly because they had a table of friends and family there that all the waitresses would serve before paying guests. after a few bites, my throat closed up. Lo and behold, there was mushrooms. After a panicked shot, I asked the owner why there was mushrooms in it. Her exact words were " well you just said you had an allergy, you didn't say you had an allergy allergy, so we didn't think you were serious". They took my beef and broccoli chop suey back to the kitchen and reappeared not two minutes later, stating they had made a new batch. Refused to eat anymore, took the food home, and guess what? my wife and i decided to "have a date" for our 60th wedding anniversary.just the 2 of us. many years ago we used to go to the golden crown so we decided lets try it again Great decision. The 2 gals on duty were friendly and the service was prompt. they even gave us a short read of the Chinese calendar that proved we were a match. we ordered from the select 3 out 4 menu area so we could experience what each of us liked the most. the almond chicken sweet and sour pork, veggy mix, and the prawns were hot and delicious. Oh NO!! New owners, chintzy portions, overpriced. Got spring rolls that were flat, greasy and basically empty (no filling). War wonton was a rip off, basically filled with broccoli. They don't know what cocktail sauce is for your deep fried shrimp. Brought us plastic packets of plum sauce and when we didn't want it, told us to dip our shrimp into our sweet and sour pork. Ok so it's got the standard style of dishes that westerners are used too but it sure beats any local Chinese restaurant hands down. Great for dining in or take-out and prices are very reasonable. If your in town and fancy Chinese food, look no further. read more

This restaurant always surprises. It looks unimpressive from the outside but the inside suggests someone spent some thought and money on design. It is one of the more attractive Chinese restaurants I've been in. It is under new management but you can still order combination dinners for about $12. There are some good choices for that. Unfortunately at present it appears there is a problem with the standard of cooking. Although the portions on the plate were ample, the rice (plain but heavy on soy or black bean sauce? with not much else) and the chow mein (dry and also very plain) on my plate were definitely in need of some work. The chop suey was of good flavour. These are the backbone of Chinese restaurant food in Canada. If you can't make these flavourful and interesting then there is something wrong. A shame as the service was attentive and the people in charge were obviously sincerely concerned about the quality of the food. They've only been in action for a short while so I'm hoping for improvement. An attractive dining area won't cut it if the food isn't of a good, consistent standard. read more
