I shared this on my instagram but then my daughter suggested I share it here..thank you thank you thank you God for loving me so. Quite some time ago, Sandals had a guest pastor visiting from Hawaii. Pastor Wayne shared a message that coincided with his book, Divine Mentor, and I remember leaving that day feeling incredibly blessed. Then, during a trip to Hawaii in 2022, I wanted to attend New Hope Church in Oahu. I drove all the way there... and then drove right past it because I was too scared to walk in alone. This year, I've been praying for courage. I've been asking God to help me do the things that stretch me, the things I don't always feel confident enough to do. Today, I finally walked through the doors of New Hope. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with so much kindness. They placed a shell lei around my neck, took the time to talk with me, and made me feel like I belonged. I couldn't help but tear up. It reminded me so much of what Sandals felt like 15 years ago, the warmth, the authenticity, the love, and the joy of being surrounded by people who genuinely reflect the heart of Jesus. God showed up in a mighty way. The first song alone was confirmation He knows me and my fears and blesses my willingness to walk through them and in these doors. I'm so thankful I didn't let fear win this time. God continues to show me that courage isn't about having no fear, it's about trusting Him enough to take the next step anyway. Very friendly church! And, it's modern! It's larger church with multiple rooms. I came here as a visitor in Hawaii during Christmas time! They have live music, 3 screens displaying the primary speaker, and relates the Bible to modern events. They also incorporate "movie like" scenes at the beginning to highlight the main topics that will be covered. For example, for their Christmas sermon, they had videos of children saying what they want for Christmas, and showing the array of holiday foods. In this scene, the children share what they want to give Jesus since it is his birthday. It's quite a welcoming and interesting church! Definitely captures people's attention. There's plenty of street parking and a small parking lot dedicated toward the church. read more

I first came to New Hope in May of 2010 when it was still at Farrington High, then to Sand Island where my wife was baptized by Wayne and Elwin both at the same time at Magic Island in the Summer of 2011. I was already a baptized Christian since 1991, but I joined her anyway! we've looked at other churches but haven't found a good fit. so we'll be going back to Sand Island to New Hope and fellowship there. I'm a non-denominational Christian so I'm glad no one forces their "doctrines" on us there...too much diversity in some Churches that way, always contesting each others doctrines and values of their Church...I want a Bible based Church that is all about Christ Jesus, and nothing else...! and New Hope will be our Church from now on until Jesus takes us home...peace and love. read more

Easter service was incredible! 4 services totaling ~23,000 ppl. and yet, they still manage to give everything a personal feel. The service is done with extreme professionalism, yet at the heart of it all the love for God is there. 23,000 ppl. can't be wrong about this church. I agree with Pastor Wayne that it isn't the building or the stuff that make up the church, but the people that attend it. read more

Tucked on the right side of Sand Island. You will find this place of worship right next door to American Carpet One. Parking: The parking lot is a tad bit tiny but you can always find street parking. I parked at American Carpet One, oops but the business was closed at the time of the event. I went to their gala event a few weeks ago because the company I work for donated generously. I wore heels, next time I know when I go to this church not to wear heels because I nearly ate it in the parking lot. The greeters at the door were really kind and they were laughing at me because they saw that I was walking very carefully so I wouldn't fall. Then they said yay you made it haha. Everyone there was very kind and accommodating. YOU defiantly feel the goodness, happiness and the word of the Lord in this place of worship. read more

I LOVE New Hope!!! I never seen a community of people gather and be excited to learn about God weekend after weekend. The pastors maintain consistency in how they present God's Word as they all utilize an innovative approach to include humor and ensure attendees grasp the message so they leave better than how they initially walked in. I been part of this church for almost 5 years and I've witnessed growth within myself and those kids in my Sunday School class. My child has engaged his interest in the praise & worship, along with the visual display of various types of dance performances that are relevant to the message of the week. I am truly thankful this place had been so welcoming to people of all "walks of life". New Hope has a positive impact on all ages and continue to grow in numbers. The outreach to the community is unbelivable... And under the Leadership of Pastor Wayne Cordeiro and his Staff... They continue to do God's work with Grace, Commitment & Genuine Heart!!! There are quite a few things I really like about this church: - Multiple campus locations as well as live online and podcasted (recordings) - Guided notetaking for the sermons and scripture - Great music / praise team - Solid sermons delivered with humor and heart - Personal testimony following the sermons - A comprehensive website - Lots of small group opportunities for those trying to connect to God in more intimate settings than a mega-church I was visiting here for the weekend and came at the suggestion of my cousins. I found the whole experience to be very moving. I can imagine that if you don't like mega-churches or churches that feel very produced (multimedia, order of worship), this place might put you off. However, I felt like the heart and soul was still connected here. read more

My church since 1998. It has seen its fair share of struggles and change, but they've always been handled with grace. Tonight, I attended a midweek service (Wednesday at 7pm) and it was awesome. I'm no stranger to the weekend services and all the elements therein (hula, skits, videos, special musical productions - any medium possible to reach the hearts). The midweek service still offers great worship music, but without all the fanfare. The message was meaty. Parking was far less of an issue as it is on the weekends, and the service concluded right at 8:15pm. It's a wonderful way to stay connected during the week. Love this church! read more

I've been to New Hope Oahu on a few occasions (I don't live on island). In my few experiences, the Pastor keeps members engaged. There is a pamphlet and paper to write on, and simple learning techniques are applied so that people walk away with a greater understanding of God's word. This is a non-denominational, Bible based church. I like their emphasis on community projects, small group Bible study/prayer groups and classes that help members (for all things in life, grief to finances). The Pastor uses scripture, and applies practical application/examples so that very complex topics can be understood by many. New Hope Oahu is very welcoming, and I enjoy worshipping/hearing God's word when I'm able to attend. I have never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome walking through the doors. I never understood why a church would receive a negative review for having a lot of money (it means that its members are active, tithing and growing), being too tech savvy (as long as members are worshiping in spirit in truth, nothing else matters) or spreading God's word (even if it is something you disagree with). The Bible is clear on sin, whether that sin is homosexuality or lying. Expecting Pastors to sugar coat or avoid parts of the Bible to appease man/society is disgusting to me, and I'm glad that I haven't experienced that at New Hope Oahu. read more

Known as one of the islands "mega-churches" New Hope began as a small gathering of worshippers under the direction of Pastor Wayne Cordeiro. Fifteen years later, New Hope boasts the largest congregation in the Islands. One visit and it's easy to see why. The staff makes every effort to make you feel welcome without any "join my cult" edge. The setup is impeccable, from welcome tents to spiritual materials for sale, areas for prayer and specific ministry tables. Pastor Wayne is a very gifted speaker and captures attention with his comedic style, poignant message and charisma. New Hope's message of, well...hope is a far cry from fire and brimstone and makes you think. Think about being a better person :) read more

I attended the Easter service because a friend asked that we come and see their families performance. Everyone here was very welcoming and they even gave us shell lei's because we were new to their church. Because of the large turn out (and to stay compliant with the fire safety laws) we were told to leave our stroller in the nursery area. We found out the nursery area had a live feed of the service as well as a small play area. They even had a childcare service if you just wanted to leave your child there as well. When we went back to the main area, we were brought to our seats by an usher who was kind enough to light our way with a flashlight because the performance was starting. The service itself was far from what I was used to. I was raised Catholic and I'm used to a more subdued, leave feeling guilty for sinning but you don't remember doing anything bad kind of service. This service had a smoke machine, strobe lights, three giant projection screens, costume changes, dance routines and it was pretty insane. They even had one of those camera's that panned in and out from the sky. It was a very expensive looking production. I had a good time until they asked for donations, very openly asked for donations. They then hurriedly passed around envelopes and in those envelopes had an area to put your credit card information. I understand that we're in a modern age here but donations via credit card was too much. I also found out that there were reserved seating at this service - $40.00 a seat. I thought that was a little nuts too. Other than that, it was a good service. read more

My family and I have enjoyed the many services at New Hope, and we've been attending for several years now. It's a big church that tries hard to keep the small-church feel to it, so people will feel connected. Pastor Wayne Cordeiro has a way of explaining complex topics in easy-to-understand, and often creative ways. They use multimedia to deliver the message. Videos, plays, and it's interactive too. Attendees are given handouts before the sermons, so its easier to follow along, and fill in the blanks note-taking. Powerful messages - It is not uncommon to laugh so hard at the pastor's humor that my sides hurt, and then also be brought to the brink of tears, all within the same sermon. There is a good feel and atmosphere of friendliness here. For newcomer's looking for a church to attend, New Hope is definitely worth a visit. read more

I've loved New hope's vision and ministry since I first heard and discovered the ministry back some 8 years ago. I actually first visited their church branch in Japan and then had the great opportunity to take a class titled "the Divine Mentor", with Head Pastor Wayne Cordero. Through that course Pastor Wayne Cordero spoke great words of wisdom, spiritual concepts and disciplines that have since then been to me core beliefs that I live by today. Walking in I was warmly greeted by a few different volunteers from the church and was able to find a seat promptly after that(I tried getting there a few minutes early) as service started I found myself meeting a few of those around me and began to worship God lead by a group of talented singers and musicians. Pastor Wayne Cordero came up to speak afterwards and By the end of the message I felt challenged once again to love and help others know the Lord! Overall great experience! I have many wonderful things to write about New Hope!!! Many years ago.. I ministered with beatboxing at New Hope Kailua and attended one of their water baptisms. I still have the New Hope Kailua VIP with my name on it somewhere. It was an incredible experience!!! In recent years.. with my brothers and sisters from my home church Word of Life, we've volunteered alongside New Hope with outreach missionary work. We love functioning as a team!! We work well together as team players!!! New Hope are wonderful brothers and sisters of the body of Christ and do so much for our community!!! LOVE being a part of this church. I live on the Big Island so I attend New Hope Legacy. I would have never known about this church had I not been baptized by Pastor John and Pastor Aaron February 2017. I regularly watch the Wednesday night online service and also try to watch one of the weeeknd services. What really impressed me the MOST about the New Hope church is the daily journaling. This is a Multi ethnic church entrenched with Hawaiian cultural along with amazing energy through singing and dancing. I enjoyed nick vujicic's powerful and touching sermon. Very large church with 3 services on Sunday. Qualify my review by saying that this is my newcomer's experience and I have only been to one service: -parking can be difficult with such a large volume of people. Fortunately, they invite newcomer's to drive to front and be directed towards a gravel lot immediately next to the main building. -worship was definitely very polished and expertly produced. Felt like a rock concert. -Pastor Wayne led the service. They had a guest speaker who presented our responsibility to be involved in our government and voice our morals and values to those we have elected. (During the time when Hawaii is voting on same-sex marriage) Definitely got the impression that New Hope has many connections to the community and is very active in forming partnerships with businesses and organizations. -Felt like a stranger in a big crowd. If you prefer a large church, this place is probably for you. read more

I love New Hope! Pastor Wayne is such a great teacher, and he makes the bible come to life. His sermons always touch on life experiences that make God's word relatable and relevant. I think a measure of how much our family enjoys his sermons is by how much we miss him when he isn't able to give the sermon. Pastor Wayne is authentic, has a great sense of humor, and leads by example. He motivates me to deepen my relationship with Jesus. The church members are very warm and welcoming, and our kids enjoy themselves in Children's Ark. read more
