Quite some time ago, Sandals had a guest pastor visiting from Hawaii. Pastor Wayne shared a message that coincided with his book, Divine Mentor, and I remember leaving that day feeling incredibly blessed. Then, during a trip to Hawaii in 2022, I wanted to attend New Hope Church in Oahu. I drove all the way there... and then drove right past it because I was too scared to walk in alone. This year, I've been praying for courage. I've been asking God to help me do the things that stretch me, the things I don't always feel confident enough to do. Today, I finally walked through the doors of New Hope. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with so much kindness. They placed a shell lei around my neck, took the time to talk with me, and made me feel like I belonged. I couldn't help but tear up. It reminded me so much of what Sandals felt like 15 years ago, the warmth, the authenticity, the love, and the joy of being surrounded by people who genuinely reflect the heart of Jesus. God showed up in a mighty way. The first song alone was confirmation He knows me and my fears and blesses my willingness to walk through them and in these doors. I'm so thankful I didn't let fear win this time. God continues to show me that courage isn't about having no fear, it's about trusting Him enough to take the next step anyway. This incredible Mid Century Modern Catholic Church was designed by architect George McLaughlin and…read moreopened in 1962. St. Augustine is steps away from Waikiki Beach and welcomes travelers to daily services. We attended early mass on Sunday. There is a small parking lot available for parishioners. The priest and locals are friendly and welcoming. They explained Hawaiian infused differences in the traditional mass. The building is amazing. The cement arches, seen outside, run through the inside framing the sanctuary. Beautiful stain glass windows depicting Christ fill arches. A magnificent stain glass wall with Christ in a tropical setting fills the back of the church. Hawaiian kahili flank the alter. I love the Hawaiian influence. Copper doors and roof accentuate the beauty of this remarkable church.

They have three screens (modern church), live music with singers, and a Christmas presentation where children were dancing to religious Christmas music. They also had "fake snow" fall from the ceiling for a part of it. In addition, there is ample and free parking. A whole parking lot is dedicated toward this church on Sunday. The holiday sermon was about 2 hours long from 11 am to 1 pm. It was a lengthier mass I've been to, but it was definitely enjoyable!

She was wearing a bun. Then another lady came forward with long hair. She started screaming and yelling into the microphone and running around the stage changing the worship experience. Even folks around me wondered what happened. It was so loud and felt like someone was screaming into a megaphone. The rest of the praise team was awesome and very enjoyable. They set the tone for a lovely song for a service. The leaders should consider another praise song leader who doesn't scream into the mic for over 5 minutes (in an effort to "sing").

My background range from…read moretraditional Chinese superstitious ancestor worship to Pentecostal speaking in tongues to working the sacraments to make myself good enough to breeze through Purgatory. I was saved at another Bible believing church 18 years ago. But the thing is my old church and a few more I've been members of do not stress enough of the Good News and how we can interact through the Word. Since coming here in Feb of this year, I have overcome decade long sins and having joy in worship, fellowship, etc. I am like did I even go to church before coming here. Sunday night was another of multiple life changing messages to me. My childhood consisted of being send from relatives to relatives, who says they love me and also got rid of me when they didn't want me. I spend my whole life looking for my identity and everywhere I turned to hurts me. When pastor says my identity IS in Christ, and expounded on that, well, I am FINALLY free from this lifelong burden. I've met my best friends here, started my business bc of the favor of God on this house and Ps Mike's constant encouragement from platform. I don't know where my life would be right now had I not walk through the doors of Inspire Church in the Waikele Shopping Center back in 2012. I am excited to raise my kids in this church, and to support and carry the vision that God has given my senior pastors! My wife and I are very blessed to call Inspire Church home!

So the women's conference is great, but "merch"'and an expanding venue to rake in more money vs a more intimate sanctuary. They preach weekly about the obedience of tithing to further the ministry, why then does the women's conference cost an arm and a leg?? Shouldnt the head female pastor be promoting women's conference so "all" can attend without taking a loan?? They have lost and no longer promote the most high as our father but rather as an avenue to personal wealth! Promoting, women against one another and wear your best to arise! Then their daughter posts daily about her run or her OT workout as she is married to a local artist. Is vanity not a root sin. I'm ready to move on to a more intimate environment focused on God and not riches and aesthetics. I said what I said...prove me wrong!

Attended a public memorial for a very dear and highly respected woman who dedicated her life to…read morePeace. Homily was presented by The Rt. Rev. Robert L. Fitzpatrick, Bishop of Hawaï'i. Members of The Kai'ulani Choir sang beautiful hymns throughout the service, and a loving Hula was performed to start off the evening's program. What a spiritual experience it was sitting in this church, looking around at the Altar and the stained glass windows, feeling the cool evening breeze flow through the sanctuary. Although I'm not a religious person, I would consider coming back for a Sunday Mass.

I've valued those words through the years as I've moved around and sought a church to plug into. What I can say about New Hope Manoa is that I've met a lot of great people who genuinely try to love others, and I find the teaching to be biblically based. I love the kupuna (elders) who try their best to model faithfulness and kindness. The worship is not flashy, but heartfelt. I especially appreciate when the youth lead worship or when a single aunty is on stage with a guitar because she wants to help people connect with Jesus. Pastor Rod helps the church not just understand scripture, but try to live it out. He has a heart of a shepherd, whether visiting someone who is sick or texting someone who hasn't been around in a while to check in. I love the "Show God, Share Aloha" ministry that helps people with food, utilities, health needs, etc. Every church has its problems like my mentor said 20 years ago, but the goal is to try to be more like Jesus in humility and love. And I see that in many people at New Hope Manoa. Services are Sundays at 9:30am at the auditorium at Mid-Pac in Manoa. Lots of parking available! Dress up or wear a tank top and board shorts. Either way, people will try to welcome you well.
