We attended a candlelight concert here and ambiance was so ethereal! The acoustics was very good- the music of the string quartet soared. The only downside (and it was definitely minor) was the wooden pews were uncomfortable on my butt after awhile. It was also a bit warm but there were fans to use in the pews. We came early and snagged parking in front. It's a paid lot. We've also attended weddings here in this beautiful cathedral. FYI- there's much Hawaiian history connected to this church and girls' school. You can just feel it as you walk into the church and in the adjoining hall.

12-11-2023 Yesterday afternoon was the 2 nd time we attended Iolani's Christmas choir concert. Last year we had an obstructed view by sitting on the left blocked by a pillar and the conductress' body. But yesterday our granddaughter's mom was the first in line and waited in full sun prepared with a chair, leis and more. Hooray cuz we ended up in the second pew as the first pew was saved for the two teachers. The view was perfect as we could see all the action: the photographer, lower and upper school choirs, the director playing the keyboard and more. One instructor shared that it is a long standing tradition for Iolani to hold it at St. Andrews Cathedral for the acoustics and beautiful venue. She made mention of the heat generated in there as evidenced by the hand fans in the pews. Wearing a face mask, it felt a couple degrees higher but if you sit back and marvel at the beauty surrounding you of stunning arches, stained glass high above and the harmony of voices plus a few solos you will be fine. Once we attended a wedding there and someone actually fainted. Hopefully that is a rare occurrence. Happy holidays hope you are enjoying the sounds of the season. Mele Kalikimaka.

This is a beautiful Cathedral and has a wonderful location. We found it closed when we visited so we did not get to view the interior. We were very disappointed as the stained glass windows are supposed to be gorgeous.

This is my favorite place and structure. Dec.3th,2012.My daughter got married wth a lot of blessing in this cathdral. At that time,I got to know this place and structure is loved by many hawaiian people. So we have to respect the culture and this histrical place ,structure. Now my wife's father has goon. That was a special memory of him.

A beautiful cathedral and a wonderful place to attend services. The Sunday service schedule is: 7:00 am Holy Eucharist 8:00 am Ka `Eukalikia Hemolele with the Hawaiian Choir 10:30 am Sung Eucharist with the Cathedral Choir 5:00 pm Changing Ringing of the Great Cathedral Bells 5:30 pm Choral Evensong The 7am service is a shorter service with very little singing. In the 8am service all of the songs and some of the readings are in the Hawaiian language. It's very spiritual and comforting to hear the Psalms chanted and the hymns sang in Hawaiian. The 10:30am is a tradition Episcopalian service with a full choir. All three service provide something different depending on what you are looking for. After the 8am service there are refreshments in the outdoor courtyard and everyone is very welcoming and friendly. I highly recommend St. Andrew for anyone looking for a church home.

I shared this on my instagram but then my daughter suggested I share it here..thank you thank you…read morethank you God for loving me so. Quite some time ago, Sandals had a guest pastor visiting from Hawaii. Pastor Wayne shared a message that coincided with his book, Divine Mentor, and I remember leaving that day feeling incredibly blessed. Then, during a trip to Hawaii in 2022, I wanted to attend New Hope Church in Oahu. I drove all the way there... and then drove right past it because I was too scared to walk in alone. This year, I've been praying for courage. I've been asking God to help me do the things that stretch me, the things I don't always feel confident enough to do. Today, I finally walked through the doors of New Hope. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with so much kindness. They placed a shell lei around my neck, took the time to talk with me, and made me feel like I belonged. I couldn't help but tear up. It reminded me so much of what Sandals felt like 15 years ago, the warmth, the authenticity, the love, and the joy of being surrounded by people who genuinely reflect the heart of Jesus. God showed up in a mighty way. The first song alone was confirmation He knows me and my fears and blesses my willingness to walk through them and in these doors. I'm so thankful I didn't let fear win this time. God continues to show me that courage isn't about having no fear, it's about trusting Him enough to take the next step anyway. So much to be grateful for. Giving thanks to Him for it all. The good and the not so good. I know He has a plan. #gratitude #faith #courage #newhopeoahu

I've valued those words through the years as I've moved around and sought a church to plug into. What I can say about New Hope Manoa is that I've met a lot of great people who genuinely try to love others, and I find the teaching to be biblically based. I love the kupuna (elders) who try their best to model faithfulness and kindness. The worship is not flashy, but heartfelt. I especially appreciate when the youth lead worship or when a single aunty is on stage with a guitar because she wants to help people connect with Jesus. Pastor Rod helps the church not just understand scripture, but try to live it out. He has a heart of a shepherd, whether visiting someone who is sick or texting someone who hasn't been around in a while to check in. I love the "Show God, Share Aloha" ministry that helps people with food, utilities, health needs, etc. Every church has its problems like my mentor said 20 years ago, but the goal is to try to be more like Jesus in humility and love. And I see that in many people at New Hope Manoa. Services are Sundays at 9:30am at the auditorium at Mid-Pac in Manoa. Lots of parking available! Dress up or wear a tank top and board shorts. Either way, people will try to welcome you well.
