Second, the refrigerated items...a wide stock of items. However, no hot foods (that's actually in the same strip mall complex), and no fresh meat nor fresh breads. Came to get groceries. All the tomatoes were rotten. When asked to refill the tomatoes was told there is no truck so can't refill it and all tomatoes were like that (rotten). When I went to pay for my groceries the employees were talking in Punjabi (which I understand )that truck is here and was unloaded long time ago. The guy's name is Nikhil who clearly lied to a customer. I don't know if they are lazy or want to sell the rotten tomatoes. Worst customer service. Ever since I was a kid, I've never had a good experience here. The cashiers have always been rude and barely acknowledge you unless you look like an adult. I'm 24 years old now and still feel disrespected when they don't so much as look at me but will acknowledge the grown man next to me. They even started ringing his cart up before I even finished paying for my one item which now I realize I could have gotten from any other store (loose leaf tea)... I like shopping here! Cheapest fresh produce and they have a lot of it! Seriously you really can't beat the prices here. They store itself is clean and well organized, their shelves are always neatly stacked. They carry Milk, Paneer, yoghurt, and lots of frozen heat and serve Indian foods. They also have a variety of spices,chai tea, pre-made curries in jars, incense, and personal care items. On one of their food aisles I discovered "ready to eat small go packs of Bhel Puri" - I had to buy 2 and I was so glad I did, very tasty! Can't say much for the service, it's fast/efficient, but there's always a line to check out. Don't forget to bring your reusable bag! LOVE that they have a small hot food stand with samosas ($.65), vegetable puffs ($.75), and a couple of other items that I haven't tried. There's also sauce on the side! Note: If you have a nice car, park it toward the street/edge of the parking lot. There are a lot of people who just can't park or don't care to park in this parking lot. Front door parking is not worth it in this parking lot. I saw one woman walk from the grocery store only to find the entire side of her Jetta scraped. I used to shop here ALL the time when I lived in Dublin and Pleasanton. Best thing - young coconuts for $1, yeah A DOLLAR a piece. I used to stock up on those like I was about to hunker down in a bomb shelter. If you think you can find a place cheaper, you're wrong. They have the best selection of incense. I love that stuff. Mmm. I also like the hair oils they sell. I have a huge bottle of Dabur Amla Gold hair oil that I've been using for almost three years now - it's always good. I loved that they sold Mysore Sandalwood soap - that stuff is wonderful! Um, BUY ONIONS HERE. For whatever reason, I used to go through about 10 lbs of onions every month for just my (now ex) husband and me. They have the best prices, especially for pomegranates! Super cheap. The taro chips here are really tasty and the bulk spices are wonderful and priced well. I cook and buy spices in bulk because I like things to have flavor and this is the place to come buy it at! I don't know if he's still there, but there's a hispanic guy who cleans and stocks the shelves who is really nice. Oh, and there was/is a guy who works behind the counter (has his ear pierced) that I used to eye all the time. Like, I was so lame, I'd be stupid flirtatious and try to time it just right so he'd be the one to ring up my groceries. He is ridiculously gorgeous and looks like a movie star/model. Love this market! There are quite a few Indian/Middle Eastern markets in the area, but this is quite noticeably the largest. They have a great selection of fruit and veggies. Some very unique that you can't find anywhere else, even Ranch 99. Was able to pick up fresh tumeric root there the other day. Some of the produce isn't as pretty as standard grocery store produce, but they actually tasted better (pears and apples). I suppose Americans go for looks not substance....lol. They have an excellent and deep selection of Indian products. However, this store is Indian only. Most of the non-Asian ethnic markets carry a mix of Indian/Middle Eastern/Eastern European goods. There are no Middle Eastern goods here. Great for when you want to find those hard to find items for Southern Indian cooking. If you want to find Middle Eastern products, I suggest Sahara Market. It's decently sized and has a good diversity of Indian/Middle Eastern products. Plus the carpet sized bread is fantastic and made in-house. read more

A good place to shop for Indian grocery. They have a good section of frozen food. Also, vegetables are at reasonable price. The vegetables are fresh and of wide variety. On Sundays they get fresh samosas and bread bajis @ 11am. They have most of the dry food that we use in India. Major brands they carry are Shan, Priya, MTR, etc. on snacks they have indian cookies ( biscuit), mixture, and other traditional snacks. Not impressed with the quality of the snack section. No meat section is a negative. Have all kind of rice and atta (wheat flour) options. We shop every weekend. Will recommend to our friends. read more

This is my grocery store. I have been going here every week pretty since I moved to the US. Yes, I did check out grocery stores out. But this one remains to be my favorite. I have enjoyed shopping here on numerous occasions. Simply because it's cheap, organized, clean and carries whatever my pantry would need. The first thing you notice when you walk in are the greens and other colorful veggies that are neatly piled up. They are always fresh. ALWAYS. The average prices for veggies at this store ranges from $.50 to $2.99 (worst case scenario). They also carry an array of Atta (whole wheat flour, for those of us who like making rotis at home). Right from Annapurna to Golden Temple. They also have rice from all over India. They carry basmati, ponni, sona masoori, par boiled rice for Idlis, etc. They carry their own house brand for rice and most lentils now! You'll find all the other major brands aswell. There's just a whole lot of options for one to choose from. They carry a lot of frozen foods aswell. From frozen pre-made samosas to frozen veggies, the kinds that don't grow in California. Prices are again average, ranging from $1.99 to $5.99 for select items. Really helpful for when you have to throw a party that's tough to cook for! They carry the usual Indian dairy products like paneer and Bengali sweets like Rasogolla. There's a whole lot of Ready-To-Eat mixes that you can use on days you don't want to eat Indian food outside or even make it at home.There's a whole variety of papads made by Lijjat and even Ambika applams!!! They also carry other Indian fritter like foods. Indian potato chips, Indian Tapioca chips, Ruffles Lay - Desi style!! I am a happy birdie! The coffee and Tea aisle carries Indian brands such as Society Tea, Taj Mahal, Narasu's coffee, Nescafe Sunrise et all. This store also sells other pre-made food like rotis, kulchas and breads that are made in the sister bakery across. I highly recommend trying out the samosas that the store sells. OMG yummy! I had been to so many Indian stores till now but never seen stuff older like this store keeps. 1) I have got snacks from their store which smells like its super old. It tastes the same. 2) Their corn flour had bugs in it. When I returned it and asked them to check their stock, they just smiled. 3) Twice I bought milk which got separated and was not consumable. Eeekkk!!! is what I said when I found a food bug in the chapati I was serving to my 11 month old. I just bought some atta from this store during Diwali sale thinking what a nice deal!!! As soon as I saw the bug, I looked for more in the container in which I had filled up the atta after bringing it home. There were more!!!! I still didn't believe what I saw. I looked in the bag in which the atta came, and yep, found some more. Pissed, I called the store to see if I can talk to their owner. The answer I got from RAGHU, is that they are not allowed to give the owner's number and that I can reach him tomorrow at the store number. Well, since he doesn't want to talk to his customers, I think this is one of the ways to get his and his customers' attention regarding my experience. I like this place because the groceries are very cheap and fresh. I rarely see wilted or bruised vegetables/fruits. I have walked out with a full cart with having only spent about $20. There are abundant Indian snacks, sweets and drinks. I looovee the desi ice cream! They have some hygiene products like Indian soaps and creams and oils. If you buy calling cards to India, you get $1 off when paying with cash :) Just one incident there: Around Diwali time, my mom and I went to get sweets and other things for Diwali. I think they don't have a bar code scanner at the register so they type in prices for everything. We had a few boxes of sweets and lots of groceries, our cart was freakin full (so was the store, Diwali time is crazy!) he typed in $49.99 for a box of sweets instead of $4.99. My mom did think the total was too high, but figured since she had a full cart, she may have miscalculated (and there was a long line so she didn't want to stand there and go through the receipt) She later realized the mistake and took it back. The clerk apologized and refunded the full 49.99, instead of deducting 4.99 from it, which was pretty nice. I would just advise that everyone keep track of the prices, they might type up something incorrectly, but they do not hesitate to refund it. In terms of service, everyone is helpful, but I wish the clerks would smile and engage in a little bit of conversation! read more

This is a big Indian grocery store close to our home. We used to shop at the one in the South Bay when we lived there. Pros: -Lots of veggies to choose from -TONS of frozen paranthas, naan choices as well as frozen entrees -Huge snack aisle -Prices are good -Service- fast and sweet.. the guys are very helpful and ring you up fast! Cons: -Can get crowded BAD during weekends -Waiting line to pay sucks, people block an entire aisle and its hard to get around. Try it with a very active baby. Fail! -limited types of fruits -Organization is lacking with some items that seem randomly stored -if you want to rent an indian movie, uh dont bother, netflix it. We actually like the veggie and fruit quality from the South bay store more but this is our regular spot for Indian groceries. read more

This Indian place is usually busy, however the low rating is because of the lack of maintenance on the shelves. The sharp edges poke you and a safety hazard and when you give this feedback to the cashiers they are stunned as if they had not heard it before. I would give them a 3.5 star. INVENTORY: 9/10. They have good inventory of Indian spices, vegetables, condiments, frozen food, you name it! I regularly buys these items from here: Masoor Daal (Organic) Moong Daal (Organic) Indian Okra Onions (shallot) Potatoes Garlic Instant Noodles from India - Ching's secret: Schezwan, Singapore, Manchurian, Spicy Garlic; Maggi: Aatta Noodles, Masala Noodles; None of these contain MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) Spices (Cumin, Red Chili, Turmeric, Saffron, Coriander, etc.) Thai Chilies (No more! They used to carry the best Thai chilies but they stopped carrying these for a while now...sad). Ghee (clarified butter) Maggi Hot and Sweet Tomato Chili Sauce (the best sauce in the whole world!) They also have good selection of frozen food (we don't usually buy these since we prefer to cook fresh). SHOPPING SPACE: 4/10. They are pretty cramped for a busy store and be prepared to bang shopping carts and bump into people if you are here. This is something I really dislike about this store. CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE: 8/10. This is a huge differentiator between this store and other Indian stores that I have been to. They are great with greeting the customer, helping you with finding what you are looking for and they have 4 open registers during peak hours (the lines get pretty long during after work hours, weekends high noon times and Friday evenings). They don't have minimums for using credit and accept pretty much all kind of tender types (not sure about EBT though, please call them and check). Overall, it is worth the drive for me to this place for the items I need for my recipes. When I needed any exotic spice, I have rarely been disappointed by their inventory! I've asked repeatedly why Indian store owners / cafe owners / restaurant owners in the East bay don't smile or welcome their customers. It doesn't take much to be hospitable. If the Asian woman at the 7-Eleven can greet her visitors and smile as she rings up their order, why can't Indians? Well.... my weekly needs are catered through this grocery store. Frequent this store at least once a week, sometimes twice. Almost all the Indian kitchen needs are met if you are back from New India Bazaar. Dairy, Produce, Spices, Rice, Atta (Wheat Flour, staple Indian ingredient), u name it u have it.... Affordable, fresh (well mostly) and at close proximity. Dairy and produce are mostly cheaper than what I find in Safeway, Lucky or CVS. In all, my goto place if I find my fridge empty. read more

New India Bazaar is a small Indian grocery store. They sell the usual fruits and vegetables (for VERY cheap), spices (also for cheap), and other grocery store stuff. But, what brings me there most often is their samosas (small, fried pockets of spices, peas, and potatos). They are very filling, absolutely delicious, and only $0.60 each! After one, I want another. After two, I couldn't eat another bite. Be warned, they are a little spicy, so if you aren't accustomed to spices, have some dairy or bread around to quell the heat.
